a man about what he felt with the earthquake earlier when the ground suddenly started shaking again. >> we just felt a pretty good shake. >> reporter: bob felt a rumbling on this corner in danville. moments earlier he explained he was working at home this morning when he felt a quake, then suddenly with us this afternoon, it happened again. >> did you feel it? it rumbled. >> right now. >> yes. >> oh, there it is. yeah. yep, that's an earthquake. >> reporter: rattled nerves as workers hurried outside. car alarms went off. a magnitude 3.6 quake. >> pretty good jolt. it emptied this building. >> reporter: there had been a swarm of small earthquakes rattling the area near the calaveras fault. seismologists say it's an area that tends to have them with at least one in the three-point range. >> all of these little earthquakes do not relieve

bay area app and sign up for alerts. today in washington another guilty plea in the russia investigation. rick gates pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents in conspiracy against the united states. court documents say gates hid tens of millions of dollars he earned from lobbying work for ukraine. today's plea is considered a strong indication that gates will testify against paul manafort, the former campaign chairman. gates and manafort were first indicted last october. manafort today continues to claim he's innocent. an emotional return in parkland, florida. teachers and staff went back to stoneman douglas high school for the first time since last week's mass killing. a heavy police presence was present outside the school where police say a teen gunman shot and killed 17 people. the armed sheriff's deputy who was on duty that day was fired after security video showed he never entered the building during the attack. president trump used that as support for his proposal to arm

teachers. >> this man standing outside of the school the other day doesn't love the children, probably doesn't know the children. the teachers love their children. they love their pupils. they love their students. >> also today florida governor rick scott announced a package of gun control bills that would block anyone with mental illness from having a gun, ban the sale of bump stocks and raise the minimum age of buying firearms to 21. the white house put on lockdown after a van struck a barrier. she has mental issues. the president was never in danger. we have new information on the disturbing story we broke last month. you may remember these photos right here, raw, uncovered meat being delivered in shopping carts to the 99 ranch mart in san jose. our exclusive report triggered an investigation by the county health department and the usda. then our investigative unit

followed up with county health inspectors. we've learned that they did not issue any fines or other penalties for the meat delivery. a spokesperson from the health department says that inspectors witnessed 99 ranch market throwing away all meat that suspected may be transported in a grocery cart. now, health officials are now working with the grocery store to make sure that they comply with california rules regarding food delivery. a long-time golf coach in the east bay now facing some serious charges. dublin police has arrested 51-year-old sonny kim for allegedly sexually assaulting a former student. kim, a well-known coach in the friday valley area and ran his own golf academy. police are trying to determine if there are any more victims. very serious accusations against a south bay nursing home. a lawyer claims it's illegally dumping residents. the lawyer filed a lawsuit on behalf of two former residents at the courtyard care center in san jose. it alleges the center discharged

the two women without proper notice and without a doctor's medical clearance as is required. the suit also claims nursing centers often do this when they can bring in someone who can pay a higher fee or is less of a risk when it comes to paying their bills. one of the elderly women apparently became homeless and then hospitalized. >> we filed it as a class action. part of the problem with the dumping in this case is they did not give either of my clients notice before they just shoved them out into the street. you're legally required to give 30 days' notice before you can discharge anyone and there's a whole host of other things you have to do. >> the parent company for the courtyard facility said in a statement they are unaware of any lawsuit. the company also says it works diligently to provide quality care and services for all its residents. take a look at this fire burning in san francisco's castro neighborhood. these pictures from sky ranger this morning. it broke out in a victorian building near 18th and sanchez streets around 10:30.

roz plater joins us live with more on the conference. hi, roz. >> reporter: hi, how are you. this has been a very busy day for the folks attending the conference and still going on. they have been networking and going to workshops about their careers and also, as you said, listening to inspiring speeches, including one speak whose investigative work led to the me too movement. some 6,500 attendees are taking part in this conference. it comes as the me too sexual harassment campaign is only a few months old. jodi cantor was the investigative reporter behind the harvey wine steeinstein sto. she said she couldn't imagine her work would prompt a massive movement with thousands of women coming forward. >> it felt much more improvised rath and a spontaneous movement.

so the police department is cracking down on thieves - by going undercover. bike thefts are a big problem in san francisco, so the police department is cracking down on thieves by going undercover. take a look at the surveillance video of a sting on wednesday. the top right corner of your screen, they used a bait bike to catch this thief in the mission district. this is the man they arrested. his name is gareth pool. officers plan to continue the sting indefinitely. they say they fear for their lives providing vital service to the community. talking about bus drivers under attack with riders caught in the middle of the violence. vicky nguyen joins us with an early look at her report from tonight. >> reporter: it's all caught on camera and we want to warn you some of this video is really upsetting. we reviewed more than 200 incidents on ac transit buses in 2014 and found these attacks happen more often than the public or even the transit district knows. passengers spitting, spraying,

slap, even physical attacks, putting riders in danger. >> it is scary to be out there without any protection. >> reporter: if an operator calls in and says they feel they have been assaulted, you're saying that may not count as an assault? >> that's where the law enforcement partners that we have work on that. they're the ones that will determine whether or not an assault occurred. >> reporter: tonight we investigate why the numbers don't match up between what's caught on camera and what's reported to the public and the changes now coming after we started asking questions. we investigate tonight after the olympics. well, the dangerous flu season is still going on. new numbers from the state health department show 202 people have died from the flu in california this season. that report showing 17 more californians died from the flu just last week. three of those lived here in the bay area. right now the count for the bay area flu-related deaths stand at 40. the state health department says this is the worst flu season in

nine years. the tech billionaire who has been fighting to keep the public off of martin beach is now asking the u.s. supreme court to take his case. he has been fighting to keep the road closed to the public for the past ten years. he owns the property surrounding martins beach near half moon bay. last year the district court of appeals ruled that he repeatedly violated state law by blocking the only road leading to martins beach. he was forced to reopen the gate but on thursday he filed an appeal to the supreme court arguing that forcing him to reopen the gate violates his property rights. a progress report on the new warriors arena, the chase center in san francisco. take a look at the progress. construction on the arena started just over a year ago. right now the practice court and basketball offices are starting to take shape. the builder tells us the arena is 40% done. it's still on target to open for the 2019-2020 nba season. that is exciting to see.

wow. warriors have a new home. >> i know. if you look outside don't let the sun fool you, it's still cold out there. >> it is very chilly out there today. really nice, so beautiful weather. the next couple of days we certainly do have more changes coming back into the microclimate forecast. we'll take a look at storm ranger and we have cleared out from the north bay down to the south bay from any rainfall activity that we had yesterday. so sunny skies building in throughout most of the bay. we want to take you to that down across the south bay and you can see how beautiful it is right now through downtown. the air certainly a little drier this afternoon. currently humidity at 26% and 54 degrees. notice how temperatures will drop down to the 40s once we hit 8:00 tonight so make sure to have your jacket with you if you're doing anything outdoors the next couple of hours. as you move into tomorrow morning's forecast, the biggest change for us really is going to be cloud cover starting to increase.

sunset. napa and ugh marin,and sonoma counties, you have 59 right here in wine country and a cooler 56 in mill valley. i want to spend a little time on the extended forecast because you'll have more changes comingk our way the next seven days. i think everybody is going to be excited about after how dry it has been this february. right now we're on track for one of the driest februarys in history at this point. let's get some rainfall in here. right now it looks like by next monday a tenth to a quarter inch is possible, not a big storm. we'll dry out here on tuesday with sunshine. dry for most of wednesday. then it looks like by late wednesday night into thursday possibly a stronger storm with all indications right now showing about a quarter to maybe three-quarters of an inch of rainfall. so next thursday that's going to be the big storm day for us at least at this point. you can see for the inland valleys we stay with cold 20s and 30s the next two mornings. afternoon highs ranging in the

learn? >> reporter: yeah, let's talk about that activity, marcus. good afternoon. they are blasting the top of this structure right now. you see that going on behind me, trying to attack it aerially. that is a former library, but a former library decades ago that has not been used for years and years. folks are telling me that there were people, perhaps squatters or others like that in and out of this building all the time. according to oakland fire department, specifically melinda drayton, she said it was a one-alarm fire. these are images when the blaze was completely engulfed. we are not far from international boulevard where this is all taking place. a one-alarm fire. the building totally hollowed out in the middle. it's a total loss which is utter for a number of reasons. one of which is it's on the national registry of historic places. it was built over a century ago in 1914. the other issue here, of course, is the safety matters involved.
