rain returns so i will detail that in just a few minutes. mike has a new crash reported in the south bay. the chp report says it's a hit and run, that doesn't mean it's anything serious, but one of the people involved may be in trouble and it could get more serious if they don't report with some details. no serious injuries, no major injuries, that's what i meant by serious issues. northbound 680. over at 237 that's where the original krosh is reported. just saw another one pop up north 880 at 237. sometimes people get confused as to which roadway they are on. so far it's only the commute that shows the build, coming down out of treatment and in toward milpitas. a smooth drive toward the bay bridge, just a little build for the east shore freeway. 23 minutes from highway 4 to the backup at thee bay bridge toll plaza.y in t there's the berkeley curve.balla that's where you're really slowing down. back to you. >> those lights are very pretty, though, at least. this next story is going to make you go why? a college basketball player intentionally misses a chance tm break a free throw record.

stored on a microsoft server in ireland, so here is the question, does american law apply? it is after all an american company, microsoft, right? but the e-mail is not in america so whose law applies? so far our courts have said the e-mail should be covered by irish law, the justice department has appealed that and so it's in front of the supreme court this morning. 6:17 right now. college basketball player, have you seen this, he's being praised for missing a free throw. jordan buick hand nonis one of the star players on the university of iowa basketball team. his team was comfortably ahead of northwestern on a game on sunday when he went to the free throw line and missed it. he was tied with a former hawkeye named kris street for the most consecutive froes made in school history, he had a chance for the record but they say he miss it had on purpose. it turns out, though, how respectable. street died in a car accident during the 1993 season and

6:19 am
we will be up to 58 degrees in san mateo, san francisco 55 on the embarcadero and the north bay up to 64 degrees in santa rosa. a very chilly start, though, this morning. let's get the kids out the door for school. let's go to livermore. it will be 40 degrees, make sure they have a nice warm coat even at recess it's only going to be 50 degrees, but it will be sunny. most likely recess outside today compared to yesterday when they still had that rain to deal with. the rain has moved off towards the south, now over southern california. our next storm system we are watching that over the pacific. that will be here bringing some rain to the north bay by late tomorrow evening. starting out to the north and then making its way into the south bay and the east bay, the rest of the bay area by thursday into friday. we will still have rounds of rain possibly lingering throughout the day on saturday and sunday. that's our dry day, the only day to get outside. here is a live look at squaw valley, it is so beautiful this morning. if you can go to the sierra
6:20 am
today and tomorrow will be your chances and your window to get there because after that we are looking at the possibility of two to three feet of snow falling in the sierra and desperately needed at this point heading toward the end of the weekend drying up with mid 50s in the forecast. mike, now you are tracking a crash out of san jose. >> i got some more information and so it does -- we will show you the map just overall. things are moving smoothly, no major concerns, but over here down in the south bay this is where things got a little confusing over the last few minutes. we have the crash i told you about the hit and run reported north 680 at 237, now if it's there at all it's over out of lanes, no slowing and off the shoulder. northbound 880 at 237 there is a crash reported here, very similar details, this has more information as chp arrived, they said, yes, at least partially blocked and also there's activity in the shoulder so this will be slowing as you head past the scene. on the southbound side we see a lot of slowing as well.
6:21 am
it could be because of tech tater slowing or because the crash is on that side of the freeway. we will continue to follow this because that is a critical time as folks focus on that area of the south bay, that's the milpitas area. looking at this area as well, the east shore freeway slowing through berkeley toward the bay bridge toll plaza. we know the metering lights will be on now and they are and the backup is there. no major problems for transit agencies, that's good stuff getting through the bay, you have options in the city and along the peninsula as well. here is 101, easy drive, these taillights north through palo alto through university all the way into san francisco. back to you. coming up next on "today in the bay," more reason to keep a close eye on your teenagers' cellphone use, new this morning the private and inappropriate messages a lot of teenagers are sharing with each other. that was a decision i made at the time, you know, to write that letter and to try to end my life. >> students on the brink of suicide, so why aren't some schools tracking value information that could help save lives? i'm vicky nguyen, we investigate next.

6:33 am
where we're standing right now on a windy two-lane road. i drove this earlier this morning, got ten miles, did get to the snow line, wasn't much to see, it was scattered, but had to turn around because we didn't have cell service. the video you are looking at was taken around 2:00 this morning, again, that's 15 miles up mines road at an elevation of around 2,000 feet and you can see the snow was i can is itting, it was coming on to the ground, sticking on the roadway, on the trees and the plants in that area and as you just saw moments ago in this life picture we know in a that snow is still up there. unfortunately as i mentioned it's very difficult to get up to that location, that's mines road, it's a very rural road that heads eventually to san jose and mt. hamilton. fortunately it's not a commute road for many if any people, a few people live up there, but it's not something that's going to affect the morning commute. again, it's just a nice thing to see here, here we are getting close to march and we're seeing snow on the valley floor, from
6:34 am
the valley floor here in livermore. i know it's also visible on mt. diablo, maybe we can get a look further north later this morning. reporting live in livermore, bob redell, "today in the bay." we are finally getting some good rain and snowfall to the sierra. >> we are hoping for a miracle march. let's get a look at now that the sun is up we can see what it looks like in sunol this morning. you can see the snow sticking to the grass there. we're going to talk about the rainfall totals in mt. diablo a little bit of a wintry mix there, almost an inch of rain, also in alum rock park, a little under an inch. walnut creek has a little more than a half of an inch of rain there, also in fwernville and concord. you can see some pretty decent rainfall totals here with this first storm that moved through. san francisco had about a quarter of an inch of rain. in my house at east san jose i had some hail pellets and you can watch the video on my facebook page @karihallweather. if you have pictures on video share them on my facebook page

we have this crash we continue to track south 880 heading down toward milpitas out of fremont that's around dixon landing road, again, still trying to clear some vehicles, there may be quick traffic breaks here, no details given by chp just yet but we see the slowing. we see the slowing northbound 101 up through san mateo north of 92, the san mateo bridge, that's pretty typical but we did just get reports of a crash here, sounds like a pretty big deal airport boulevard near coyote point. that is close to the off ramp and that may be affecting the traffic flow as folks may be slowing down and backing up at the off ramp. no confirmation but that's the traffic pattern i see. now folks are heading across the san mateo bridge and there's the dumbarton bridge for 84, a slower drive just builds. now, that part is typical as you head to the peninsula. there's the bay bridge and unfortunately that's typical as well. the ba you canup fills in all lanes coming off the berkeley curve. this not to typical, before we get to our weekend weather we want to bring you live pictures
