you, 4:30 as we take a live look out on san jose. a great way to start the middle of the workweek. we're halfway there. good morning and thanks so much for starting your morning with us, i'm marcus washington. >> now we just have to get through it. i'm laura garcia. in fact, better keep moving out there, it's another brisk cool morning. >> it is and the winds are starting to pick up, too, so it probably feels that much more colder as you head out and make sure you're prepared for not only that but the rain that will be moving in as we go throughout the day. we are looking at some very soggy conditions for the evening commute but we do start out with all clear skies this morning. as we get a look at what's happening now we're going to see those temperatures very chilly to start.

mike, you're tracking some changes in the tri-valley. we are. first of all, beautiful crystal clear view of san jose and the traffic down in the south bay, also equally as clear right now, kari will tell you about those changes and the timing that's happening today but right now the roadways are dry. we had a lot of slowing just after 4:00. a lot of slowing south 680 approaching highway 84. there is a construction zen there, two, possibly three lanes still closed heading down toward highway 84 where there was a report of a crash as well as folks were coming out of livermore. perhaps they've cleared that construction but perhaps they haven't. that crash is over on the shoulder with no injuries. getting toward the bay bridge an easy drive as well. that's a great drive toward the toll plaza. we will send it back to you. happening today students at marjory don't man douglas high school in florida are returning to class for the first time since this month's deadly shooting. >> school officials say today is the start to a phased reopening.

they say they will focus on healing first. as survivors return 17 will not including meadow pollock. here is her father's issue this morning. >> i want to be the last father of a murdered kid that's ever in this country. that's it. this is me, i'm the last father. >> students who are not ready to return are being allowed to finish classes online. today a north bay high school is closed because of a threat. officials say that they found graffiti threatening students and staff in a boy's bathroom at alameda high school. police say that they will patrol the school over the next few days. officials are not discussing the exact nature of that threat. separately more than 200 students stayed home from alameda high school because of a threat found in a girls bathroom. happening today a san francisco -- in san francisco a major protest denouncing i.c.e. raids. >> this comes as we learn federal agents arrested more than 150 people in northern

california this weekend. cheryl hurd looks at what is next for the immigrant families. >> when you put out notices it puts the whole entire community in fear. >> reporter: that fear is being belt in the bay area. reena is from el salvador and is here legally. >> we know that this is not just taking the people who are, quote/unquote, cricriminals, th is terrorizing our community. >> reporter: the phones at siren has been nonstop but in many cases siren says the reports are false. >> it is important for community members to not spread something that hasn't been verified. >> reporter: i.c.e. verifying arrests has been made. this after libby schaaf put out a warning this weekend that i.c.e. raids may be coming to her city. the deputy director saying the oakland mayor's suspicion to publicize her auto decisions

good morning, i'm landon dowdy and here are today's top business headlines. wall street is set for modest rebound this morning. the markets did fall off yesterday following testimony by new fed chair jerome powell on capitol hill. he signaled that the fed will be aggressive in raising interest rates to keep inflation in check and the economy from slowing. you want to look for reports today on manufacturing, housing and fourth quarter gdp. the dow falling 299 points yesterday to 25,410, the nasdaq dropping 91 to 7,330. google's safe driving car unit way mow has posted a 360 degree video on youtube to let people envision what it's like to ride in an autonomous vehicle. wamo is about to announce self driving rides with real passengers and no human behind the would he will in phoenix, arizona.

a recent gallup poll said 54% of americans say they are unlikely to use a self driving car. amazon is buying ring the maker of smart door bells for $1 billion. that would make it one of the company's biggest acquisitions ever. the deal will help amazon expand further into the fast growing home security and in home delivery service market. it comes months after amazon launched its own technology to let delivery workers to bring packages straight into customers' homes. ring was founded six years ago and it was once rejected by the big name investors on shark tank. back over to you. >> it shows i guess you never know. things can turn around. this morning investigators have found a vintage car once belonging to amelia earhart. someone stole it friday in l.a. police say the 1932 hudson tara plane was in a locked trailer. the car is one of 14 that still exist. it's worth about $500,000.

view this morning as you look out the window and you do need to start out with a jacket, but% don't forget the umbrella, especially if you will be gone for most of the day. there will be some showers moving in by this afternoon. so let's talk about the timing. the rain forecast shows that in the north bay here we are farther to the north, north of santa rosa and ukiah, we start to see the rain moving in around noon in those areas and it could be very scattered and spotty as we head into late morning. by early afternoon there could be a couple of showers moving into san francisco but this is not the main system that will bring in widespread rain. we will have more widespread downpours as we go into tonight, pretty much all of the bay area should see some rain by 8:00 to 9:00 tonight and we will see that rain continuing into the ñwed indicated by the pinks and the blues there farther to the north and that could also be the case for the south bay and east bay. very chilly conditions, a lot of

sierra snow, and the rain continues until about saturday. sunday is dry, monday is dry, but there may be another system right behind that that could bring us another round of some widespread rain heading into tuesday of next week. let's talk about this first round of rain that will linger from thursday into saturday. there's the potential that we could get at least an inch of rain for all of the bay area, but there could be some spots in the santa cruz mountains and the north bay getting two inches plus, maybe even three inches. we are looking at some soggy weather. after this next 48 to i'd say 60 -- you know, 65 hours, yeah, there you go, 72 hours, we will go there, and we will start to see things clearing out for only two days in this @icmforecast. mike, you weredzññ looking at s slowing in the east bay. that's right. we saw the speed sensors moving around from green to orange to yellow. over here that tri-valley still maintains a smooth drive despite the crash.

what i'm talking about is 880, the nimitz freeway through downtown both directions look like they are back at speed but over the last ten minutes i saw both directions show some slowing. there's overnight road work that goes on there between 23rd and 29th. getting over to the rest of the maze an easy flow. highway 1 at a full closure but traffic sensors are showing a smooth drive. 24 shows the traditional slowing that pops up right about now. may be a sensor read because it happens again the tradition right there. over here no problem for the mass transit system, either. 28 trains for the bart system and capital corridor, ace train, no delays reported through the central valley. over here caltrain moves smoothly on the peninsula. the bay bridge toll plaza the last ten minutes have shown a backup for some of the cash pairs on either side. we have a lane or two closed on either side of the fast track lanes, that's why we have the early backup, traditional there as well. farther north there is the

richmond-san rafael bridge. over here from richmond this one car, now two, now three are heading toward the north bay with no delays for highway 101. at 4:48 right now bogus parts that find their way on to airplanes can have deadly consequences. senior investigator stephen stock breaks down what he found. >> he is looking at an inspector general's report showing the faa isn't doing enough to keep these parts out of planes. >> they're called suspected unapproved parts on sups in government lingo. we found ntsb records linking sups to 32 general aviation crashes that have killed 11 people since 2011. faa records show 3,000 different instances of unapproved parts discovered on airplanes since 2011 including on planes flown by just about every commercial airline in the u.s. >> i don't believe the faa has kept up. >> congressman peter dee fazio of oregon says right now the faa

overlooking san francisco this morning. no rain just yet, but we are tracking a significant storm that's making its way to the bay area right now. good morning to you and thanks so much for joining us, i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. right now we want to get a look at what's going on weatherwise. yesterday so nice, it was so nice outside but now we need to get ready for the rain to return. >> yesterday hopefully you enjoyed it, it was the nicest day of the week. today we will start to see clouds moving in, rain by the afternoon to evening hours. it's all because of this storm system making its way closer to far northwestern california, moving closer to the north bay as we head toward noon. we are feeling temperatures cold enough for it to snow initially but by the time it gets here it will be much warmer. we are below freezing in santa rosa and napa, 30s out there now. as we look at the timing of the rain we should start to see it make it into ukiah and lake port by early afternoon. more hi
