the rain for now, looking at our storm ranger mobile doppler right now, we know that they get a lower level view of that rain that's falling and it looks pretty clear, looks like it's frozen. if we look outside our windows at all of our bridges this morning, it could be another dangerous commute across the bay area. we have a team in place to get you through this friday safely. thanks so much for joining us, i'm kris sanchez, i'm in for laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we have you covered roadwise as well as weatherwise. let's head over to vianey right now to look at what's going on. you say this is going to probably start up around lunchtime. >> yeah, right after lunch hour. we were seeing the earlier models showing it possibly starting late morning, now it's looking more like into the afternoon. as we can expect to see also the rain, we're also expecting kind of a slight drop in those temperatures. 45 degrees right now in the peninsula, south bay 46, san francisco 45, north bay a very cold 34 degrees. we're definitely a lot colder in
5:01 am
the north bay than we were 24 hours ago. right now this is what our doppler radar currently looks like, we have light scattered showers but i will talk about exactly what we are expecting in terms of the rain and an update on those rain totals coming up in just a bit. even on a friday we have a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza, but i think they're just about ready to open that last cash lane on the left approach. i saw folks pausing for all lanes, it looked like someone was walking over toward their tollbooth. also coming from the san francisco size a little slowing across treasure island. they must have cleared that, so we will track that all clear coming up in the next few minutes. things are moving nicely throughout the bay, we don't have the soaked roadways but we do have slicker roadways so be careful. i have had a couple reports 87 and 101 and 280 at saratoga, we have crashes on the shoulder, but both of those reported after spinouts, that's at least in the chp report, so those conditions

those are some things that you want to keep an eye out. another thing you want to keep an eye out for when we saw this yesterday are drowned trees and if we do see the winds and rain picking up later today and you are aware of large trees on your property that you think are at risk of fall, this would be a time to remind yourself maybe it's time to call arizona borist so that doesn't call on your home. reporting live here in newark at the dumbarton bridge toll plaza, bob redell, "today in the bay." our team coverage conditions, we want to bring in forecaster vianey arena with a closer look at those rainfall totals. we really needed this rain. >> we definitely did. yesterday i saw pete's report saying, hey, the people in the north bay didn't mind the rain at all. we still have plenty of moisture, you can see it sitting off to the north, that's going to bring another band of rain into the area and it will bring a good amount of showers towards the southern california area as well. as far as your storm totals so far, i want to remind folks
5:04 am
these are unofficial rainstorm totals. these are not the official numbers just yet. look at san rafael over two inches of rain, over 3 inches of rain for sent field. san francisco nearly an inch of rain, redwood city nearly an inch of rain. these are unofficial rain totals and we are expecting more rain into tonight is we will see a chance in those storm totals as we continue to track the tail end of this storm system. more mud slide concerns in southern california this morning as the storm we've been experiencing and vianey has been talking about hits vulnerable areas that are finally starting to recover. all of that rain in southern california may cause problems for people here trying to get there this weekend as well.
