much for joining us this morning. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. we've been following these two stories overnight, a lot of developments, but first developments in the weather department as well. changes coming to our forecast. >> we have several changes. we are going to get to not one but three chances to see rain make its way back to the bay area so it looks like we might end up these last couple days official winter on a rainy note. san jose 51 degrees, clear skies. another thing you will notice as we head into the afternoon is an increase in that cloud cover. the temperatures remain 9 to 10 degrees warmer at this hour than yesterday. here is a quick check of that, that 24 hour temperature change. san jose nine degrees warmer, sunnyvale 11 degrees warmer. we're looking at the roadways, calm as far as the speed sensors are concerned. a minor crash in san jose off of the freeway at the wolf road off ramp. we have a little tiny slow down as folks are coming out of the altamonte pass and that's

typical the volume coming from a bigger commute out of the tracy area. no problem through the dublin interchange or approaching the maze, a little slowing heading toward the bay bridge toll plaza where we do have that backup for the cash lanes. over here in san francisco we have police activity and for that a big development overnight, we will hand it back to you guys. that is the breaking news that we're following overnight. this is a live look at the scene of a deadly police shooting that happened in san francisco. you see all the bullet markings there after an apparent armed robbery. this happened on capp street not too far from 20th street in the mission district. police are telling us about 10:30 last night two people were robbed just a few blocks away from that scene. officers quickly located a car that hit the description. police a two suspects inside that car were arrested but there was a third suspect, police say something in the trunk. that suspect was hiding there. officers hired while trying to detain him. he later tied. police say they found a gun in

that trunk. our pete suratos has been actively getting more details for us overnight. he is live at the scene. he will join us with a live report at 5:30. our next top story this morning, the immigration debate is about to heat up again. attorney general jeff sessions will make an a noungsment on sanctuary cities in sacramento. bob redell is there live now with what we could learn today. the trump administration announcing they're suing california. a lot of talk about this this morning. >> reporter: good morning, marcus. this is the most aggressive action that the trump administration has taken against california to get the state to stop undermining federal immigration laws. when attorney general jeff sessions speaks later this morning at a conference hosted by the california peace officers association behind me in downtown sacramento he will announce that the federal government is suing california

governor jerry brown and the state attorney general xavier becerra and will ask a judge to strike down at state's three sanctuary laws that the trump administration argues interfere with federal immigration enforcement. those are senate bill 54 by designates california a sanctuary state by limiting state and local authorities cooperation with i.c.e. assembly bill 450 by limits prior employers cooperation with i.c.e. raids and assembly bill 103 by allows california to review and audit immigration detention facilities. governor brown treated at a time of unprecedented political turmoil sejeff sessions has com to california to further divide. the mayor of san francisco say they plan to fight this lawsuit and defend their sanctuary status. >> we're going to stand by our

values and stick by our community here in san francisco, in particular our immigrant community and let the chips fall where they may. >> reporter: the announcement of this lawsuit comes after libby schaaf warned undocumented immigrants in her city about an upcoming sweep by i.c.e. agents. in response to the lawsuit schaaf released a statement oakland is a city of immigrants, we will continue to exercise our legal right to exist as a sanctuary city. attorney general jeff sessions is expected to speak at 8:05. the man his department is suing also expected to speak her here, i'm talking about state attorney general becerra who says that the state does plan to defend and fight this lawsuit. defend against. reporting live in sacramento, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> of course we will stay on top of this story all morning long tracking any new developments. we will live stream that press conference when it happens at 8:00. you see scott mcgrew there,

taking a look at what we can expect later on today. we will check in with him coming up at 5:45 this morning. help for oakland families looking to better understand laws about immigration. the oakland unified school district is hosting a know your rights workshop set for 3:00 p.m. at green leaf elementary school. florida house lawmakers expected to hold a final vote revising the state's gun laws. this comes after a seven hour debate yesterday. the state senate narrowly passing raising the age to buy a gun to 21, also to create a program to train school personnel to carry concealed weapons. if the house approves those measures today they then go to the governor who plans to sign them into law. you will recall florida still reeling after the mass shooting at parkland high school that killed 17. here in the bay area one south bay city taking gun control into their own hands. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us live in sunnyvale with a light night

decision by some of the council leaders there. >> reporter: over the next coming weeks the city attorney for the city of sunnyvale will be researching and writing an ordinance that would raise the purchase age for an assault weapon to 21 and no doubt a lot of other municipalities, cities, towns, counties will be watching this very closely to see how it all plays out. now, the vote that happened here at the city council chambers last night was unanimous and it's worth mentioning that during public comment when anyone can speak out no one spoke against that proposed ordinance which would also exempt active duty military and law enforcement from that age restriction. the mayor says this is really about the latest school shooting and doing what this city of 100,000 people can to prevent a tragedy like that from happening here. >> you have to be 21 to drink, if you are a teenager and you get your license you have to wait 12 months before you can drive with your friends. there's other things along the

line of taking a look at what we've seen putting regulations in place for youth is not an inappropriate thing to do. >> reporter: sunnyvale has been at the forefront of gun regulation before banning high capacity magazines back in 2013. i will post the sunnyvale city council agenda in my twitter feed and then coming up at 6:00 here on "today in the bay" i will show you some data on mass shootings and assault rifles and the gunman's age so you can decide for yourself if sunnyvale's ordinance really addresses the problem. the assault rifle vote comes on the same day that the santa clara county supervisors voted to explore an ordinance banning gun shows at the county fairgrounds. we are tracking that for you as well. in sunnyvale, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." we've got a follow-up now on the suspicious fire at the el sobrante library.

this morning we're learning it could be months before it reopens. it's a story "today in the bay" brought you as breaking news last week. oops, we apologize for that tone there. all right. continuing on this story, library staffer telling us they haven't been allowed inside since the fire because they consider it just too dangerous. staff is yet to determine the extent of that damage. investigators are still looking into exactly how that fire started. one year later and new money finally arriving to victims of the coyote creek flooding in san jose. the city has received a $5 million one-time state grant. the money will go first to assist homeless and low income residents still affected by all that flooding. the nonprofit catholic charity still trying to help 40 displaced flood victims find housing. a close encounter but not one but two mountain lions spotted outside of a home in boulder creek. this is in santa cruz mountains. you can see right there these

two lions right there playful flee outside of this couple's front window. i don't know how nice that is when they're that close. so those lions didn't even notice the homeowners, pretty much played with each other. >> they were out here for like 20 minutes. i was scared, i thought that they were going to pounce through the window. it was one of the coolest things that i've ever seen. >> there was another mountain lion sighting this time in the rural town of pescadero off of highway 1 on the coast. leon na cash say the lion killed some of her chickens. >> i screened and i don't know what way he went i was so scared. >> cash is worried the lion will return and she is afraid for all of her animals including her horse. >> i've seen coyotes and i've been scared, i can't imagine a mountain lion. your temperatures right now very

mild running several degrees warmer at this hour. noticeably warmer. if you step outside you will notice it's not that chilly. microclimate highs, san jose once again climbing into the 70s and milpitas a high of 68 as we head over towards the east bay, concord also in those 70s, oakland into those mid 60s at about 65 degrees. along the peninsula and san francisco i want you guys to keep in mind we will start to notice an increase in cloud cover into the afternoon. even though those temperatures will be pleasant, san francisco and the north bay is expected to see the rain first as that storm system makes its way in tonight before spreading further down south and into tomorrow morning. i will talk about that again in a bit, but let's check in with mike. we're looking over at a calm drive right now, it's wednesday, we don't see a lot of commute building for most of these freeways. we are looking over here toward the altamonte pass, a little slow coming out of that corridor. no major issues. overcoming out of the south county 101 at speed for our

mike tra good morning, it's 5:14. we are a lot warmer than we were yesterday. look at this 24 hour temperature change. all of that orange, 12 degrees warmer in napa, about 11 degrees warmer in sunnyvale. how hot are we getting? let's talk about the lack of sunshine for today because we have three storms on the way, i will have the details coming up. a live look now we see much more activity at the richmond-san rafael bridge. last time we saw one car, now we see these cars and trucks getting over there towards 580. we will show you a bigger look at your commute coming up. stocks are set to take a big hit on the open this morning on

worries that donald trump really is going to enforce those tariffs and may add more. as you know mr. trump has declared the united states will slap tariffs on aluminum and steel, something even the aluminum industry now says it does not want. and there's an expectation he will follow up on a campaign promise to add a huge tariff on anything made in china like almost anything made by apple. now, the reason wall street thinks the president is serious about new tariffs is because his top economic adviser just resigned over the issue. gary cohn was to free trade and the president was not. cohn's departure makes it clear protectionism just won at the white house. now, normally the number two man or woman would take over for cohn, in this case that would be jeremy katz but he has already resigned. "the new york times" points out 43% of the staff that started with mr. trump have already left. the president tweeted this morning will be making a

decision soon on the appointment of a new chief economic adviser. many people wanting the job. we'll choose wisely. other news, the bay area's 23 and me has gotten clearance to sell a dna testing kit that will determine whether you carry the gene associated with breast cancer. it is not foolproof by a long shot, but the significance here honestly is not really whether it works or not, it's that it's a major step forward for home dna testing. the fda has been very restrictive about home dna testing. women with the brca gene have an 85% greater chance -- and men for that matter -- of developing cancer. so this will tell you if you have it, not if you have cancer. >> right. if you carry the gene. >> if you carry the gene and of course you should be following up with your doctor. >> there are so many forms of cancer, should this develop, you know -- >> this is a very specific, but this gene almost guarantees it. >> exactly.

>> this is a very important test. >> it would be good to have a doctor there to consult. >> absolutely. >> interesting. thank you, scott. it is 5:17. turns out not everyone is a fan of driverless cars, especially in san francisco. the dmv has reportedly recorded at least six traffic incidents this year involving self driving cars statewide. two took place in san francisco and both were road rage incidents where people for some reason or another attacked the cars. in both cases the cars were stopped at lights and being manned by human operators. the damage each time was considered minor, but humans have been the cause of -- the ceo of national organization for rare disorders is speaking out, this after a recent tax reform cut about credits that are offered for researchers offering treatments. >> i can tell you that process in general will bring that drug to market costs a billion

dollars. so the drug tax credits are very important incentive to companies to want to work in this space especially when you're spreading your cost for that drug over a very small population. it's not like a lipitor that's spread over thousands of people or millions of people. >> if you want to hear more you can do that. you can hear that interview coming up at 7:00 on the "today" show. that story hits close to home for nbc news correspondent richard engel whose soon is battling a rare disease. a virginia father with an unusual lesson in consequences for his ten-year-old son. haden thornhill had been barred from riding the school bus for three days, the reason was bullying so his dad decided to make him do the trip to school on foot by running in the rain. his dad you see driving behind him recording haden's mile long run to school. >> when i was running it wasn't super fun but i think it was a good punishment because i think i deserved it. >> if he needs a hug he's going

bit of that warmer trend, it's our last day to be dry. that is until tonight. we have less than 24 hours before that rain moves in. livermore rain 8 degrees warmer, san jose 9 degrees recall war. let's talk about today's forecast. we will notice an increase in cloud cover and late into tonight after our temperatures top out into the upper 60s and 70s, 70 degrees for san jose, san francisco 63, we've got this system sitting off the coast, right now it's 700 miles off the coast. doppler radar showing what could be a tap into some subtropical moisture. let's talk about that timeline. by 10:30 p.m. we see the majority of this rain stall out over the north bay. so the areas that we'll probably see moderate to heavy downpours will be north bay and anything north of san francisco. as far as anything south of san francisco, we see that kind of moving in thursday early morning. over the next seven days let's talk about the next three storms. we get our first storm system that arrives late to object and then we get the early morning chance of rain for tomorrow. then again on friday we see the rain continue and then that second system moves in on

saturday, but then right behind that second system going into next monday we get the arrival of a third storm system. not a big rainmaker out of this initial storm but we will take our chances with that, i'm okay with seeing more rain in the bay area for sure but i don't know if the commuters are, especially when we take into consideration tomorrow morning. everybody wants to see more rain, it's better for everything, but when you are in the rain and there's slow traffic or folks are hitting the breaks a little too hard we don't want that. tomorrow morning we will be on the lookout as vianey said that rain comes in overnight. right now looking at smooth drive and build for the east bay and also the police activity continuing in san francisco. avoid capp around 20th, 22nd between van ness and mission over there where pete suratos continues to follow the overnight police shooting. looking over here backup for the fast track lanes, but the cash lanes are still at an advantage. that indicates a lighter volume and lighter commute as more

youngest at 5:25 some heart breaking new video this morning showing some of the youngest victims of war being dramatically rescued in syria. a syrian opposition group called syrian civil defense released this video showing a boy you saw there and then a young girl imagine underneath all that rubble being rescued. this is out of a bombed out building in a suburb of damascus earlier this week. the u.n. says at least 100 people died in attacks on monday making it the deadliest day in syria since the ceasefire was announced last month. when it comes to relieving chronic pain opioids probably

not the best answer, that is the conclusion of a new university of minnesota study looking at long-term pain for more than 200 veterans. it showed opioids were no better at improving pain than other drugs but were more addictive. one recent last second basketball shot getting a lot of attention in the bay area. didn't even win the game. >> but what it did do was change the life of the boy who made that shot. 15-year-old livermore high school player robert boswell misses his first attempt, but with the buzzer sounding that ball goes in. this is the reason why this is important, robert is autistic and his mother says that that shot has been a big game changer for robert's mindset. >> it's really brought out more conversation with him, he feels more confident, more eye contact. i think it's just made him feel more in with society. >> everybody gathered up on me,

the 30s, we are not seeing any 30s, we are running several degrees warmer at this hour. let's take a look at your temperature trend. i was talking about that incoming rain, today's factor will be that cloud cover that's going to be noticeable at least through the afternoon and into the evening as that storm system begins to move in coming into tonight and overnight tomorrow. 71 degrees our expected high for san jose and really we will just be in the upper 60s and 70s. at least we will still have warmer temperatures to enjoy your afternoon for the most part, though, you're going to get your entire wednesday before we even see that rain here in the bay area. >> yay, wednesday commute. look at how light this traffic flow is. the sensors mostly green all over the bay. in san jose that's north 280 the wolf off ramp there we got the tow truck on scene so nope flee they can clear that vehicle. it went off into the bushes overnight. we see that early slowing north 101 through san martin.

no problems north through morgan hill or gilroy. some folks have a longer commute than you. over here santa cruz a smooth drive. these folks have a nice commute as well. out of the altamonte pass a little slowing and more slowing past grant line road. the dublin interchange moves well. here is the tri-valley shaping up on schedule and the bay bridge same thing. we look like we have the metering lights turned on. they just filled in all the cash lanes a few minutes ago. we will continue with the coverage of breaking news out of san francisco. this was a violent armed robbery turning to a deadly officer-involved shooting all playing out at the heart of the mission district late last night. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos joins us live at the scene. this is pretty intense moments for officers. we're learning the suspect was reportedly hiding inside of the trunk of the car before that shooting. >> reporter: yeah, that's at least what we're hearing at this point. i can tell you we just saw the medical examiner drive by the scene on 22nd and capp not too long ago.

the suspect was apparently shot and killed inside of the trunk of their car. i want to show you guys the scene behind me. still an active scene in the mission district as that car that was involved in all of this. according to san francisco police they were flagged down for help by two victims in an armed robbery just after 10:30 p.m. in this area. the victims gave a car description of the suspects which police found a few blocks away. they ordered the suspects to get out of the car and police say that the driver and a female suspect complied and were detained, but officers noticed the trunk of the car was open and in that trunk was the other suspect. now, while trying to detain the suspect that's when the officer-involved shooting took place. they did remove that suspect from the trunk, gave medical aid to that suspect but the suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. let's take you guys back out here live. you see the scene down here, we are on capp street, you've got police down there and you've got

to believe that at least at this time you've got the car there that was involved in this still there in that area. now, i want to point out police say that a handgun was located in the trunk of the car but we are still trying to piece together the details as far as if that suspect pointed the gun at that officer. we will follow this and bring you guys more details in the next hour. live in san francisco, pete suratos for "today in the bay." we've got additional details as well this morning. this is, in fact, the second high profile shooting involving sfpd this year. last month police say seven officers fired 65 rounds into an rv, you may remember that dramatic footage of the encounter caught on police body cameras. we'll show it again. take a listen. somewhat hard to fathom those rounds go on and on. sfpd say a homicide suspect had

fired two shots from inside the rv near mission bay. this is, in fact, body camera video of the shooting. the suspect lived and faces murder and attempted murder charges. we look back through police data overnight, there were three officer-involved shootings in 2016 and there were twice as many in 2017. frustrated over contract negotiations, teachers in pittsburg will make their concerns known today. laura. >> yeah, i could take it from here. an unusual shot but the news goes on. they plan to rally after school before heading to tonight's school board meeting. a union representing pittsburg unified schoolteachers is saying the district isn't offering any raises and talks have stalled. both sides are expected to meet with a mediator later this month. the search for a missing robot at a high school in the south bay. good news to report for the team this morning. the robot worth about $50,000

was actually found and the people you see right there in that picture, one of them found the robot in his front yard yesterday which was a few miles from the hotel parking lot. the robot and other gear were stolen over the weekend. the month vista robotics team from cupertino were at a month tigs in utah when it was taken. they are unaware of the robot's condition but are relieved to have it back. their next competition is next month. at 5:36 new this morning wine country businesses reportedly under federal investigation. according to the press democrat the feds are looking into illegal trade practices involving more than 30 wine related businesses. specifically illegal consignment sales. that is where wholesalers or wineries buy back unsold bottles from retailers and distributors. the practice has been banned ever since the end of prohibition. so far no businesses have been

named. new details as passengers who sprang into action are talking about a scary stabbing this week on an oakland bound greyhound bus. authorities say that a 58-year-old woman attacked a three-year-old girl and stabbed the girl's mother. this happened monday on board a bus stopped in bakersfield. according to witnesses the attacker was talking to herself and making death threats about the confrontation. >> pause this lady was ballistic. to threaten a child, you're going to kill a child. for what? what is wrong with you? >> other passengers stopped the suspect after she held a knife at the girl's neck and wrestled with her mother, the mother was stabbed in the stomach, her injuries are not life-threatening. witnesses say that suspect then stabbed herself before passengers knocked that knife out of her hand. you might have seen these electronic signs on the freeways warning drivers to watch out for people walking. they have people wondering why they're popping up now. the signs started appearing

after a new report found pedestrian deaths are up over 27% over the past ten years. california's roads are among the most deadliest. the good news here our research overnight shows that car versus pedestrian incidents in the state were down nearly 20%. watch out for all those walkers and even bike riders out there. and a reminder if you are on a bike or walking you are not supposed to be on the freeways at all. this is just a note for drivers to be extra careful. over here we're looking forward these freeways and the speed sensors look great. starting to see slowing in patches. we see a little slowing 280 toward the end of the extension northbound but southbound around mariposa o word of a boat on a trailer, presumably it was attached to a truck but that is not there anyer no. chp will try to get that off of the roadway. that's just as 280 begins its southbound commute out of san francisco. the bay bridge backup has started.

the metering lights are on at the toll plaza. no img maar problems for the east bay but slowing for 238. the commute is starting. welcome to wednesday. >> you hit wednesday, what do you think about? >> the weekend. >> yeah, and rain. >> oh. >> we've got rain moving in tonight and then on saturday the arrival of our second storm system moves in and, yes, coast bay and inland can expect to see the rain from this. our temperatures will be ten degrees cooler than what we've seen the past two days. the reason for that is it's going to kind of end a bit of our warming trend. we will tap into a cold front and that's going to drop our temperatures down. by sunday we will see the rain continues along the coast, cloudy bay inland, can expect to see temperatures in those 60s. if you're heading up to lake tahoe that third storm system is expected to bring a couple of rain and snowshowers but no significant snow for the sierra. 19 degrees out there right now

vianey weather tease good morning. it is 5:43. right now we're dealing with calm, clear conditions. san jose at 51 degrees right now, now, we aren't expecting a major change in temperatures, another warm day, but we are tracking a very active weather pattern that's going to bring rain to the bay area. details coming up. do not be alarmed. this is typical. the first burst of traffic we see right here for the bay shore freeway in san jose as folks travel north of 680 and 280, 101 boggs down right now. we will show you the bigger view and talk about that in case you're unfamiliar. new numbers this morning showing construction prices are driving a surge in luxury apartment development, but as we

know here in the bay area that means fewer affordable housing options. real page now says that apartment construction is at a 40 year high but developers say the increased cost of land and labor are forcing them to charge higher rents to make a profit. >> a 2-by-4 doesn't care whether it's in a luxury building or affordable building, it costs the same. the differential is for the rent. for us to develop an economically feasible project it has to be by its very nature be high end. there are tax breaks for builders to encourage low income housing development but developers say there are too many firms competing for too few credits. a report from rent café last year offered projections for the number of new apartments coming to the bay area. we are looking through it for you and it says that san francisco, oakland, east bay are areas that would see about 5,400 new units in 2017. that report projected 4,400 new

units for san jose, sunnyvale, santa clara area and experts say that we need 4.6 million new apartments by the year 2030 to meet the demand for rental living and keep prices in check. it's quarter to 6:00. new this morning we're diving into a brand-new report that shows while the majority of students at public colleges and universities in the state are minorities, most of the professors and college administrators are white. according to the campaign for college opportunity more than two-thirds of students are minorities. at the same time more than 70% of leadership and tenured faculty positions are held by whites. while the majority of students are women fewer than half of leadership positions are held by women. the trump administration has seen a lot of resignations in the first year, but we just saw one of the most significant. >> scott mcgrew joins us now. the resignation of gary cohn. >> sends a message to the world,

it really does this morning. it sends a clear message the president is serious, marcus and laura, about slapping tariffs on foreign made goods starting with steel and aluminum but that could spread to other products. candidate troump tacked about adding a tar riff to anything made in china. gary cohn disagreed with that plan, he is a tree trade democrat and one of the moderates advising the president but cohn has left, convinced the president will not take his advice. many people in the president's own party do not agree with the president. republicans generally believe in free trade and are anti-tariff. here is the top republican in the senate worried about a trade war. >> there is a lot of concern among republican senators that this could sort of metastasize into a larger trade war.

tracking that incoming storm system which is going to bring late showers, temperatures will remain in the 60s and 70s. look at the rain it's visible on our doppler radar sitting just off the coast. this storm system i want to talk to you about this storm mat he were because the hour by hour jewett look does show it stalling over the north bay which means the north bay will the majority of the rain first and then it will move further south but still north of the golden gate bridge. it's not until about 11:00 and early into thursday morning that we will start to see scattered showers through oakland, hayward, no the really a big rainmaker. some sports further down south may not see this rain but it will get a quarter inch for the north bay. let's talk about the long range outlook. that first system moves in tonight and then on saturday we get the arrival of a second system. i want to turn your attention toward the second system but we are expecting to see that rain sticking around towards sunday and then on monday look at that we get the arrival of a third

storm system and our temperatures will starting to down into the 60s because of the arrival of that cold front will make its way in overnight into tomorrow. we will tap into a plume of subtropical moisture. let's get a check of the roads with mike. let's look over here, vianey, for the morning commute it's shaping up pretty calmly out on the bay right now. things are slowing a little bit for 101. over the tri-valley, castro valley y, a little change from the green to the yellow. over here is where i showed you that live camera shot right where the red an orange are, that's the first burst and focus of traffic early in the morning. it's actually clearing up right now. over the next 40 minutes things will start to build coming through the south bay. part of that because of these folks coming up through san mateen. over here the upper east shore freeway clears from an earlier crash on the shoulder at pinole valley road.

in several cases the victims had left a spare set of car keys inside the car and left their car unlocked. not very smart. a different incident, walnut creek police say they released these new surveillance photos where they say the suspects in the photos were involved in some sort of crime in residential garages along the ignacio valley road corridor. a northern california high school sending a heart felt message to the victims of the parkland, florida, school shooting. students at core dove have a high school near sacramento created a special video. >> students of stoneman douglas high school. >> you do not know us. >> but we support. >> you we support as as well. the students came up with that idea to create that video after talking about the shooting during class. it's two minutes long and it sends messages of love and support to the shooting survivors, 3,000 miles away. those students say that that shooting impacted students all over the country including here in california. >> we wanted to show in the video that we are so sorry this

scheduled for a plea hearing. he was arrested back in october. police say he used his position of authority to exploit a 13-year-old victim and threatened to post nude photos of that victim. he thought music at dartmouth middle school and was the assistant band director at ban ham high school. a man charged with skyping frances mcdormand's oscar will make his first court appearance. terry bryant is charged with fell lee grand theft. he could face three years in prison. bryant took mcdormand's best actress oscar on sunday night. if you receive medicare benefits you will soon get a new card. medicare will start mailing out new cards in april. they are designed to help protect your identity. social security numbers will no longer be on the front of the cards, instead there will be a unique medicare number. you don't need to do anything to get the new card, just look for it in the mail. target rolling out curb side pickup service across the country. the retailer was testing this service in minneapolis and plans
