wiper. >> and that was it. >> that's not what it looks like on the radar. the way that mike showcased it. remember yesterday i was talking about how it was going to be that annoying rain, just enough to get your car dirty. that's what it is. not a big huge, downpour right now, if i send it on over to our doppler radar, i'll zoom in closer so you can get a better picture of what i'm talking about in terms of that rain. there goes that description that mike was talking about. spotty showers here and there moving through half moon bay. this will make its exit before 4:00 p.m. maybe sooner. it's moving east pretty quickly. as far as our temperatures they are mild. i'll give an update what we can expect for your weekend because we're tracking more rain. let's sends things over to mike. >> a big concern in the morning. a little bit of damp roadways. you'll find them all around. the bay bridge as well.

a little ponding around tesla. watch for any issues. so far none reported. little patches here in oakland and maybe north of hayward. not a major problem as far as that rain storm coming through. wet roads. no problems reported by the wind or rain for b.a.r.t. or ferry systems. that's a great start for the day. lots of options, guys. >> happening today, outrage activists supporting the family of the 28-year-old man shot and killed by b.a.r.t. police are expected to storm the board of directors' meeting for a second time. the last time the demonstration got so intense it shut down the meeting. we go to oakland to find out what we can expect today. could be another emotional day there, pete. >> reporter: that's right. we can expect to see more than likely the same type of emotional response during today's b.a.r.t. board of directors meeting.

here's what happened during that last meeting in february. >> my brother had his back turned. laying on the ground. on his knees. it's a lynching. >> no justice. no justice. >> reporter: at the top there that was a family member. they were joined by friends and activist groups calling on the b.a.r.t. board of directors to take action after the man was shot play police officer on january 3rd. not too far from where we're standing. there was body camera footage of that police officer that was released by b.a.r.t. police prior to that meeting. we'll show you some of that video, body camera footage. you see the officer running outside in response to a possible shooting. the officer approaches tindale and another man on the scene. b.a.r.t.'s police chief is defending the officer's action calling it courageous saying

tindale was armed with a handgun. in the video it shows a handgun nearby. the b.a.r.t. board of directors told people at that meeting during the last meeting that they can only make a recommendation but it's out of their power as far as firing that b.a.r.t. police officer. i took a look at the agenda. it's not on the agenda for today's meeting but there will be a public comment period at the start of that meeting set to take place at 9:00 a.m. live in oakland, pete suratos for "today in the bay". >> new this morning we're getting details of president trump's first visit to the golden state since become fortunate. next tuesday the president will visit san diego and hold a fundraiser in beverly hills. details of his trip came out yesterday shortly after the u.s. attorney general railed against california over its sanctuary laws. trump administration is suing the state and governor brown alleging our state's laws

interfered with federal immigration enforcement. governor brown calls this a political stunt. we have been posting new developments on the immigration and sanctuary city fight to our facebook and twitter feed. we received hundreds of comments. we want you to join the conversation. our handle nbc bay area. 5:04. happening today bringing diaper duty to more santa clara restrooms. you can sound off on a new ordinance that requires more changing tables in the south bay and that includes men's restroom as well. bob redell has more with the changes we could soon see or maybe you could soon see, bob. >> reporter: good morning. the old saying goes it's a dirty job and someone has got to do it, but when it comes to changing diapers out in the public that person, that someone is often women because as you're well aware the ladies restrooms are more than likely to have a changing station while the men's rest rooms will not. that could soon change here in the south bay.

tonight santa clara county wants to hear from you about a proposed ordinance that would require the county install changing tables in all public rest rooms in government buildings for both women and men. the same would apply for anyone constructing or reno vagt publicly used rest rooms in unincorporated santa clara county. they have not received any complaints per se, they are just trying to be proactive on this matter. >> we want to shift the conversation happen it isn't such a thing as a woman's job, it's everybody's job, families that raise children it's not just women who raise children. this will allow families to have access to what they need the most. health, safety as well as equity all together in combination. >> the santa clara county supervisors is expected to vote in the spring after they receive feedback from tonight's meeting. take a look at your tv screen.

it runs from 5:30 to 6:30 at the santa clara county government center in the isaac newton auditorium. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay". new this morning at 5:06 a man is in custody after a high-speed chase through the east bay that ended only after that suspect took off on foot. officers tried to pull over a speeding car on highway 4 at about 8:30 last night. chp says the driver took off towards walnut creek on 242. his car blew a tire on interstate 680 at the north main and he ran from the scene. officers arrested that suspect in the nearby caltrans lot. as of last night chp was unsure the kind of charges we'll face. >> now to a developing story. a man is wanted for a gruesome murder in washington state and

police think the suspect jacob gonzalez may be headed to california. investigators believe he knows something about a woman found decapitated near a survivalist bunker on a rural island near seattle. they found supplies, firearms and ammunition nearby. investigators have not said why but believe he could turn up in central or southern california. school administrators are down playing threats made this week at one sonoma county school. there were two graffiti related threats made on bathroom walls at a high school in santa rosa. the school has remained opened with a higher police presence. threats have been reported by five sonoma county schools. >> new this morning some surprise twists this week in the fallout surrounding the handling of the sexual assault case at palo alto high school. it happened two years ago. the district confirmed the

principal was disciplined in the aftermath and then yesterday she actually released that notice straight to publications including the high school student newspaper. along with a letter she issued a rebuttal blaming district administrators for mishandling the case. she's now on immediate leave. >> california cities have no control over regulating self-driving cars. one mayor wants local tests for companies experimenting in his city. now the examiner reports the mayor is asking driverless car companies to submit local police assessmens if operated in san francisco. this week a letter was sent citing concerns about how police can respond to an incident involving automated cars. >> large parts of san francisco bayshore line is eroding away twice as fast as earlier

area. all that stuff behind is these milder temperatures and cloud cover. we'll start noticing some fog rolling in through napa, santa roanesthesia. similar conditions to what we can expect in term of our afternoon highs in the 60s, upper 60s. i'll talk about our next chance of rain which is coming sooner than you think. >> we're looking over here, fewer folks waiting for these cash lanes at the bay bridge. the right approach, we still have that one cash lane won't be open until they fix or change that after the impact months ago. a smooth drive. slick conditions pup see the sheen on the roadway. that means those off-ramps be very careful coming off freeway speeds. there's the east shore, north bay and wide look around the bay no major problems. blobs of active radar system

showers making their exit through the bay area. now the rain will definitely calm down quite a bit, but i'll talk about when that second and third storm system is expected to make its way into the bay area. we're looking over at san jose. rain not a big deal for this shot. traffic sort of pretty typical pattern throughout the south bay. and in busiest we're getting word president trump will not sign a tariff order today. it's been very confusing. we're waiting on some kind of clarification and so too are investors. snapchat is laying off more employees. its third round of layoffs. as you know the president has talked about tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum have royaled the markets. a few moments ago the president tweeted he would hold a meeting about steel and aluminum at 12:30 our time. we're interpreting that to mean he's not going to sign something

today. to earth orbit. scientists say they expect the chinese space station will fall back to earth later this month. nobody is aboard. it will deorbit sometime after march 29th and come down somewhere in this area from portugal over to greece. now most of it should burn up in the atmosphere and there's pretty solid chance anything that does fall will fall into the med. if you're old enough you remember sky lab falling on australia. today is the day president trump is scheduled to meet with video game makers for his video game summit. the president wants to talk about whether violent video games are linked to real world violence. now we have been on the phone and on e-mail with pretty much every big video game company out there. nobody seems to know who is going to this meeting. in fact, the statement software association which represents all video game companies sent an e-mail saying we don't know who is attending. this is the white house

organizing this meeting, so we're trying to find that out ourselves. a software glitch left every head set made by a virtual company unusable. thousands of them all over the world have just suddenly stopped working. customers are not happy. the company says it's working on a fix. imagine a piece of software code knocking out every product you ever made. >> not good for a company, i would say. >> bad deal. >> it is. you know what it? a good day for women. international women's day. about 100 mcdonald's restaurants are turning the famous golden arches upside down. today the m will turn into a w for women. the idea is a hit with many owner of mcdonald's. >> everybody knows mcdonald's, the golden arches. so demonstrate the importance of

>> yeah. >> every day is women's day. that's our theory. look that's why the rain moved out so we can celebrate. >> mother nature. >> mother nature is working in our favor. showers right now pretty much non-existent at this point. doppler radar you can see that storm system now far off to the east of san francisco. and making its way now towards the sacramento area. so if i zoom this in definitely a lot closer you can see what's left behind. little spotty light showers. majority of that rain moved in overnight. really smacking down more on the bay area overnight. but still, believe it or north less unanimous a hundredth of an inch. so really in term of rain totals i told you wouldn't put in a big dent. let's take a look at this fog and 4 hour temperature change. we're picking up some fog in the north bay and some spots in san francisco but if you notice temperatures are still fairly mild, so we haven't seen the 30s

for the past three days now. we're not expecting to see 30s any time soon. maybe a colder system in next week. right now 50s. 57 in san jose. 54 for san francisco. today's daytime highs very similar to yesterday but lot less 70s. still be on the warmer side into the low 60s for san francisco, a high of 63. and high 60s for south bay like san jose. bay area skies, once this rain moves out you saw the last of those showers will leave behind a little cloud cover. through friday morning majority of that moisture stays off to the north, far north so we're not too worried about the rain. what i'm following, those is a bit of an overnight chance of some showers to develop. we're following that system that could bring some scattered rain through friday and then saturday and sunday. well that's when we have the arrival of another system. saturday storm system looks like

it will be an evening storm and that's going to carry over into sunday morning. but let's check in with mike. >> we're looking right now at conditions at the richmond-san rafael bridge. definitely the sheen, slicker roadways. a note to be careful. rain may not have been heavy but affected the traction for these cars. just building here. as you come over off the east shore frarks westbound 580, overnight a couple of patches from 101 and south of, there reports of larger puddles. basically some standing water. bay bridge toll plaza some back up. metering lights should be turned on in the next couple of minutes. south county rain traveling through the area, little bit of radar activity. brighter green here. 17 has the green highlighting as well for that road weather index talk about slicker roadways and patches over here, some puddling and ponding on tesla.

shooting at an alabama high bridge. 5:24. developing at this hour still lots of questions about a shooting at an alabama school that killed 17-year-old girl. this happened yesterday in birmingham as that class was getting out. authorities believe that shooting was accidental. so farther not saying what happened or who fired the gun. but the mayor says many are heartbroken. >> a 17-year-old who 30 days from now would be 18. graduating as a senior. been accepted into two colleges. >> second student was shot and injured. classes are expected to resume tomorrow with grief counselors on hand. squoo. when it comes to arming teachers conservatives are convinced it will increase school safety.

we delve into the poll and found more than half of all voters disagree with president trump's proposal to arm teachers. however, 42% agree. among republicans eight in ten call it a viable plan. among democrats nearly nine in ten do not believe arming teachers will work. today marks four years since malaysia airlines flight 370 disappeared a mystery that don't haunt the world. today chinese relatives of passengers who were on that plan demanded answers from the government in beijing. the flight was headed to china from malz when it went off course and disappeared. 239 people were on board. relatives in malaysia also spoke out today. four years for us. four days, four weeks, still really miss all the people that we love. we still don't know what happened to them. >> there's an active search

head ♪ >> yes the rain drops, falling on your head because you were probably sleeping for the majority of these showers moving through. they settled over the north bay for a little bit but as far as rain totals less than a hundredth of an inch, not even a tenth of an inch. majority of those showers stuck to north of the golden gate bridge. we're spotting a couple of very light showers in santa cruz mountains. our 24 hour temperature change is still showing those mild conditions so as you make your way outdoors you'll notice not very cold especially in the south bay and even in the north bay actually. take a look at napa 52 degrees. we can expect to see nice warming temperatures towards the afternoon. once again talking about mid-60s and possibly even some more low 70s but trending more towards up he 60s. i'll talk about that next incoming storm system and how it could affect your weekend plans. first let's go to mike. >> metering lights were turned on because of the volume of

>> reporter: i can hear you. can you hear me. this is largely a symbolic gesture by community members that to show the school board they think this district has gotten off track. as those students walk off campus during that lunch time hour as you said, they will have the blessing of their parents, their parents have to sign them out and a lot of parents say that they will do just that. now a lot of those same parents have been showing up in force at board meetings which they say have become dysfunctional. the district was subject of a six month state audit that found poor governance and board micromanagement. the audit found the district has no plan to repay a $25 million loan and most recently the superintendent and the board have been battling over her evaluation, which she wanted done in public, which many community members wanted done in public as well. but which ultimately was held behind closed doors with the board members.

now i talked to the superintendent about the walk out yesterday and she told me she wants the students in class. >> we want them to be learning so the place where they learn is at school. and that's where the powerful conversations can be held. >> i want our kids in school. we want that for sure. but then as a parent, as a mom, i have my kid in first grade here at this school, i rather him lose half a day of school than lose eight years without having the right resources for his education. >> reporter: so the student walk out is scheduled for 12:30 this afternoon. is this a minimum day so the most the students will miss of class is one hour, one and a half hours or one period for those middle schoolers. again, a symbolic gesture. it will be joined by some commune members cluing the mayor who plans to address this group about 400 expected folks around

3:30 this afternoon. could be a busy one there. new this morning, a violent night in santa rosa has police searching for three suspects. we just learned those details of apparently unrelated shootings and stabbings. around 9:15 officers heard gun shots at the mall apartments. they found a man who she say had been shot several times and is now in critical condition. police say that man was target and that this was not random. so far no arrests in this situation. about 30 minutes later a couple of blocks away a homeless man said thieves stabbed him in the head and his encampment at prince memorial ringway. police say he'll live. the victim says two suspects ran way. >> continuing coverage now of the deadly officer involved shooting in san francisco. we brought you this as breaking coverage of the shooting yesterday morning on "today in the bay". protesters angered and outraged by the shooting are sounding off

taking their message of condemnation straight to police. >> no. let me talk to the kid. let me see him before we shoot. why do they have to do that >> protesters gathered outside of the police station last night. officers shot and killed an armed robbery suspect who police say was hiding in the trunk of a car on capp street. friends identified the victim as jesus delgado. they obtained video of a sfloogt a witness. i want to warn you, you may find it disturbing. [ gunshot ] >> two other suspects in the car complied and got out but they say delgado hid in the trunk. according to police a gun was found in that trunk. >> new details and a new reward in the case of a shot to death in the east bay five months ago. $10,000 is being offered to

figure out who killed 37-year-old emily courchesne. she lived in danville but was house sitting at her uncle's home in byron when somebody shot her. deputies say that case is now cold. emily's mother desperate for answers. >> it would be nice to know. i just want the person who did it off the street. >> anyone with information is being asked to contact the contra costa sheriff's office. >> the calendar may say march but feeling more like mid-january on the east coast. we've learned more than a million people are without power. for the second time this week look what they are dealing with. they are just getting battered by a nor'easter. 50 million people were impacted. expected to once again have a ripple effect right here at bay area airports. the storm yesterday cancelled 30 flights at sfo and more than 500 flights have been cancelled at airports in new york, new jersey and boston. >> some better news for air travellers. as of today we've been reporting right here on "today in the bay," southwest is offering more flights at san jose international airport.

starting today, the airline is adding an extra flight to phoenix. so now there are six daily trips starting saturday. southwest will launch its first international flight from sjc to cabo san lucas. also over the next two months they will add several new flights to houston, orlando, spokane and st. louis. as well as other cities. >> there you go. here's a place pretty close you can go to. pretty hurry happen sonic runway, time is ticking. they are closing it down tomorrow. the runway of kraeftd by burning man artist. it's viewable between 5:00 at night to midnight. they will celebrate closing night with a free runway fashion show. there you go mike. >> looking over here in san jose where we landed at sjc last month. saw it coming in.

we'll start to see that rain moving in. this is actually going to be a storm system that affects more of the inland area. going to move in from the southern area, so actually san jose will probably catch the majority of that rain first. then head towards the bay and some lighter showers towards the coast. a look at these temperatures, still remain in those upper 50s and low 60s. saturday afternoon storm will move into the evening hours and then that's is going carry over into your sunday's forecast. now sunday's forecast looks like it will have scattered showers possibly even all day long. not just for inland spots but for the coast, bay and inland areas as well. temperatures will remain in the 60s. upper 60s for inland spots. then as we head towards monday we also have this, kind of storm system that's been falling apart, breaking apart but i'll tell enthusiast. teasing ahead towards wednesday, next wednesday we have a jet stream and that looks like it will bring in a lot more. for the weekend, scattered showers. back to you. 5:39. coming up next on "today in the

us some light showers across the bay area as that rain continues to move out all that is left behind is cloud cover and mild temperatures in the 50s. we're tracking the arrival of a second storm system that's expected to impact your weekend. i'll go through that timeline coming up. and chp just called it a sig-alert. that means big delay expected another half hour before they can clear west 24 and acalanes road. well new this morning another mountain lion sighting causing concern in san mateo county. this one happened overnight and the sheriff's department saw that lion in pescaderro. second sighting this week. this is outside of a home in boulder creek. he homeowner said those animals kept playing with themselves. >> fight for gun control comes

to via headquarters. happening at 11:00 this morning on metro center boulevard. advocates for gun control will rally and deliver 100,000 signatures to the credit card company. they demand the company stop processing payments from retailers that sell assault weapons. 76% of americans are angry or dissatisfied with the way congress is handling the issue of gun control. only 21% are satisfied or enthusiastic with congress. an immigrant advocacy group is no longer welcome at contra costa jails. the sheriff says that san francisco base group civic quote poses a security and safety hazard to the west coast county detention facility in richmond. the sheriff says volunteers who interact with detainees violated behavior guidelines but not

offering specifics. civic issued a letter alleging abuse. a spokesperson say volunteers have been helping detainees since 2011 and have not started doing anything differently. all six democratic candidates hoping to be mayor will hold a forum. it will be held at san francisco lgbt center on market street. organizers say no one will be turned away. people can submit questions to the democratic party to ask the candidates. 5:45. no one is sure what president trump will be doing about those tariffs today. >> even the white house staff has been caught off guard. >> they have. we all thought president trump was going to sign an order for new tariffs against foreign steel and aluminum today. we know some steelworkers flew into washington to attend that

event but this morning our reporters are hearing that it may not happen. not a signing event. rather some sort of press conference or announcement. the president himself said on twitter that would happen at 12:30 our time. that must have surprised the white house because it's not on the official schedule. mr. trump's turn around flrks saturn around comes after 100 republican members of congress wrote him a letter asking him not to go forward with tariffs. at least not against every country with no exceptions. there are 100 signatures all from republicans saying don't do it. meanwhile the stormy daniels issue continues to cause problems. the white house said yesterday a mediator ordered the actress whose real name is stephanie clifford not to talk about whatever she wants to talk about. here's sarah huckabee sanders. >> the president has addressed these directly and made very well clear that none of these
