"today in the bay" continues right now. we start out with some new video into our newsroom this morning showing the rain overnight in the south bay. even though the rain is moving out the roads are pretty slippery out there sob careful us a head out the door. good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm mr. cause washington. let's head over to meteorologist vianey arana. what can we expect today. most of the rain cleared out. >> you saw that radar right there. no green in sight. in mike's maps greens mean go, traffic is moving smoothly. my maps, green mains rain. temperatures in the 50s. cloudy skies and rain. let's take you through a timeline. keep the cloudy skies and milder temperatures in the 50s. and, yes, the rain is expected to be completely cleared out pretty much within the next hour or so, what's left of that

moisture and then we'll see some chance for showers to spark up tonight into early tomorrow morning but for today parents you don't have to worry about the rain. don't send them with the nice shoes because there might be some puddles. >> the rain is gone. mud sticks around. the right lanes are blocked, three lanes are blocked because of a crash west 24, your commute direction at acalanes road. almost back to the walnut creek interchange. this will be a problem as more traffic builds out of concord, walnut creek heading over into a arinda. the rest of the bay has some scattered incidents. most are moved to the shoulder. 6:01. we're expecting another emotionally charged day at b.a.r.t. headquarters as supporters of a 28-year-old man

who was shot and killed by b.a.r.t. police are expected to storm the board of directors' meeting in a couple of hours. this is a video of the last demonstration they had. it actually became so intense the b.a.r.t. board shut down the meeting. "today in the bay" pete suratos is live at b.a.r.t. headquarters this morning in oakland with what we're expecting today. good morning, pete. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, laura. who knows we may see a similar response during this morning's b.a.r.t. board of directors meeting taking place at 9:00 a.m. i want to show you a clip of what happened during the last board meeting. >> my brother had his back turned on the ground. on his knees. that's a lynching. >> no justice. no justice. >> reporter: family and friends packing that board of directors meeting a couple of weeks ago in

oakland calling on the board to fire that b.a.r.t. police officer who fatally shot the 28-year-old man right here near where we're standing at the west oakland b.a.r.t. station back in january. there's body camera footage of that incident which was released prior to the meeting. you see the officer running outside in response to a possible shooting near this b.a.r.t. location. this officer can be seen approaching tindale and another man on the scene to raise their hands before firing several rounds into tindale's back. the police chief called it courageation saying tindale was armed with a handgun. it appears to at least show a handgun may be nearby. i want to point out the b.a.r.t. board of directors do not have the power to fire that officer, only make a recommendation to b.a.r.t. police. this is not and i temple on their agenda but an opportunity for public comment from those folks who plan to protest at this meeting. that meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.

live in west oakland, pete suratos for "today in the bay". >> new this morning one man is in custody after a high-speed chase through the east bay. the officers tried to pull over the speeding car on highway 4 at about 8:30 last night. chp says that driver took off towards walnut creek on 242 when that car blew a tire on interstate 680. this is at north main. he ran from the scene and officers were able to actually arrest him nearby in a caltrans lot. as of last night chp unsure what kind of charges he'll face. now to a developing story where the search is on for a man wanted in connection to a gruesome murder in washington state. police think the suspect jacob gonzalez may be headed for california. investigators think he knows something about a woman found decapitated near a survivalist bunker north of seattle. found supplies, firearms and ammunition nearby. investigators have not said why

but believe gonzalez could turn up in southern or snl california. school administrators are down playing threats made at a school. there were two graffiti related threats on bathroom walls at schools in santa rosa. students there were later arrested in connection with that incident. the school has remained open with a higher police presence. authorities say that those threats have been reported by at least five sonoma schools over the last week. new this morning, some surprise twists to this week's fallout surrounding the handling of a sexual assault case at palo alto high school. that incident happened two years ago. now this week the palo alto weekly reports the district confirmed the principal was disciplined in the aftermath and was fighting the release of that disciplinary notice. then yesterday, again, according to weekly, she released that notice straight to publications including the high school student newspaper. along with that letter she

issued a rebuttal blaming district administrators for mishandling the case. she's now on medical leave. bringing diaper duty to more south bay rest rooms. today you can sound off about a new ordinance that would require more changing tables in santa clara county and that includes in men's rest rooms as well. "today in the ba "today in the bay" bob redell is here to explain. >> everybody has to do the dirty job. >> reporter: i don't miss being in the diaper zone. good morning. you know the old saying it's a dirty job but someone has got to do it and that someone is often a woman when it comes to changing diapers in the public. the women's rest rooms are more likely to have a changing station while the men's rest rooms won't. but that could soon change here in the south bay. tonight santa clara county wants to hear from you about a new proposed ordinance that would require the county to install

changing tables in all the public rest rooms both men and women in government buildings. the same would apply for anyone constructing or renovating publicly used rest rooms in buildings and businesses in unincorporated santa clara county. the county's office of women's policy tells us they haven't received any complaints. they are just trying be proactive on this matter. >> we also want to shift the conversation that it isn't such a thing as a woman's jobs it's everyone's job. families that raise children, not just women who raise children and this will allow families to have access to what they need the most, health, safety as well as equity all together. winning combination. >> reporter: the county bernie sanders -- county supervisors are expected to receive feedback. take a look at your tv screen. that meet cigarette from 5:30 to 6:30 tonight.

behind me in the isaac newton senter auditorium. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay". >> thank you very much. >> new for you this morning we're getting details of president trump's first visit to the golden state since becoming president. next tuesday mr. president trump will visit san diego and then hold a fundraiser in beverly hills. those tickets range from $35,000 to $250,000. details on that trip came out yesterday shortly after u.s. attorney general railed against california over its sanctuary laws. now the trump administration is suing the state and governor brown alleging our state's laws interfere with federal immigration enforcement efforts. governor brown calls this a political stunt. we've been posting new developments on the immigration and sanctuary city fight on our facebook page as well as twitter feed. we have gotten hundreds of comments. we want you to join that conversation. our handle is @nbcbayarea.

temperature trend. 10:00 a.m. san jose will be in the 60s topping out in the upper 60s at about 68, 69 degrees, if you notice by 1:00, and into 2:00 we'll see 60s and then within the next couple of hours going to the 4:00 hour we'll remain in the 60s. overnight loss are expected to once again be on the milder side and we're tracking a bit of disturbance that could bring some showers. still could see a spark of some showers. let's get a check of the roads. >> those showers left slick roadways. we're tracking this. sig-alert or traffic alert, chp says sig-alert what they mean a crash going take a while to clear and sounds like they are having trouble gets tow trucks there. we don't have all of your right lanes blocked just your middle lanes. folks are trying to get by on either side of the crash. folks are safely over on the right shoulder and more of a distraction west 24th is jammed towards the walnut creek interchange. rest of the bay shows a smoother

good morning. it is 6:14. it's time for a quick update on your tahoe report in terms of our conditions for squaw valley. 108 inches still remain at the base. 243 inches season total. we are expected a couple of snow/rain showers to move in on saturday. i'll keep a close eye on road conditions for you. right now several lifts over. 22 lifts at the surface and 40 groomed runs. 40s in the forecast for the weekend. mike? we're looking over here. still have that traffic alert coming off the walnut creek interchange heading towards the tunnel. you have a good slow drive. crash still in the middle of the roadway.

see if you have any other major roadways to use as options. good thursday morning to you. we're getting word trump will not sign a tariff order today. it really is confusion. we're waiting on some kind of clarification and so too are investors. snapchat is laying off more employees. its third round of layoffs. the president is talking about tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum. it worried royal markets. the president tweeted he would hold a meeting about steel and aluminum at 12:30 our time. we're interpreting that as to mean he's not going to conduct a signing ceremony. to earth orbit. scientists say they expect the chinese space station to fall back to earth later this month. nobody is aboard. scientists said will deorbit sometime after march 29th and will come down somewhere in this area, from portugal all the way over to greece.

now, most of it should burn up in the atmosphere and there's a pretty solid chance anything that doesn't will fall into the med. if you're old enough you remember sky lab falling on australia. today is the day president trump is scheduled to meet with video game makers for his video game summit. the president wants to talk about whether violent video games are linked to real world violence. we have been on the phone and e-mail with pretty much every big video game company out there. nobody seems to know who is going attend this meeting. in fact, the software statement association which represents all the video companies in the united states said in an e-mail we don't know who is attending. this is the white house organizing this meeting, so we're trying to find that out ourselves. speaking of video games a software glitch has left every single head set made by the virtual reality company oculas

unusable. it is owned by facebook. thousands of them all over the world have stopped working. customers certainly not happy. the company promise as fix. as for the video game meeting that's supposedly going start at 11:00 a.m. our time. i'll be on the midday news looking at the video coming in to identify the people who are attending this meeting. new video into our newsroom. a 14-year-old boy impersonating police officer in southern california. a surveillance video shows that suspect pulling the woman over in her driveway. he was in an unmarked suv with emergency lights and dressed as a san bernardino county sheriff's deputy. that woman said he asked her about a domestic disturbance and then took off. she called police who later pulled the boy over. the police searched his home. found police uniform, a police belt with a hollister. that teen was already on

probation and was booked in jail in juvenile detention center. pretty amazing. it is international women's day and check this out. about 100 mcdonald's restaurants are turning those famous golden arches upside down. today the m will turn into a w for women. it's a hit with many owners of mcdonald's. >> everyone knows mcdon't's golden arches so to demonstrate the importance of women by flipping that iconic sign makes a statement. >> lots of local events happening as well. santa clara county supervisor cindy chavez will honor local women. students will celebrate by creating a human bill roared. there are events happening in san francisco and oakland as well. a film festival. we honor women here every day. >> that's right. >> hey that rain moved out just

in time for all those celebrations, worked in our favor, definitely the rain not a factor. now we saw it kind of move out east and pretty much off to the east now. wo woodside, we see some fog. clouds are lingering out there. dark clouds. slow it down if you do encounter fog. let's get right to that doppler radar. you can see this storm system, pretty much cleared out. if i zoom in right now we got a couple of light green showers along watsonville near the monterey county area. fremont, some light showers. that's where the rain went. we're expecting to see a couple of showers now showers for the . the roads will dry out once the sun comes up. temperatures will warm up? to the mid-to-upper 60s. in san jose, we'll keep that cloud cover pretty much all day long. we'll get a chance to clear out just a little bit with braesks

sunshine. we'll look at today's highs. 60s and some low 60s for san francisco at 63 degrees. let's take a look at our next chance of rain. i've been talking about that second storm system and that's set to make its arrival on saturday. as of right now this is the timeline showcasing this arriving in the evening. looks pretty widespread as far as rain totals not too heavy but this will carry over into sunday. and then, again, we see another chance returning by wednesday and this wednesday storm that you see on your monitor right now is carrying a nice jet stream that could bring a good amount of moisture to the bay area. i'm excited about this in terms of rain bringing us up to date on our rain totals. >> always worried when the forecaster is excited. we have weather but not affecting the b.a.r.t. or rest of the systems. b.a.r.t. is a good option for you. we have this problem on highway 24. this crash continues to be a traffic alert situation. chp says big delay. as you see right here west 24

out of walnut creek and over towards acalanes where a crash has two vehicles in the middle lane. waiting for tow trucks. four or five miles of back up opinion east shore freeway some folks heading over there, use an alternate route. the overall bay not a lot of problems. but 24 issue we'll show you ways our partners over there have given. coming out of concord towards the bay bridge you have these three routes. the alternate route highway 4 that's taking about an hour before but on a normal day it's ten minutes longer. we're seeing things start to even out. you may get more benefit over the next few minutes. another option for taylor boulevard taking you to major phrase. keep those options in mind. join your team nbcbayarea.com

. welcome back. it is 6:25. a developing story at this hour. still a loot of questions about a shooting at an alabama high school that killed 17-year-old girl. it happened yesterday in birmingham as class was getting out. authorities believe the shooting was accidental. so farther not saying exactly what happened or who fired the gun. but many are heartbroken. >> a 17-year-old who 30 days from now would be 18. graduating senior. had been accepted into two colleges. >> a second student was also shot and injured. classes are expected to resume tomorrow with grief counselors on hand. when it comes to arming teachers conservatives seem to be more convinced it will

san jose we're still seeing dark clouds at 56 degrees. current temperatures remain fairly mild. keep some of those clouds in the sky. very cloudy through today. peaks of sunshine at certain points but temperatures will be rather comfortable. overnight we're expecting to see a system move in. does not look like a big rain maker for us. on saturday we get another storm system moving in and bringing more rain towards the bay area into next week as well. very active weather pattern. for now that rain has moved out. the roads will hopefully dry out. >> roads are drying out. this crash has been moved out. that was our big traffic alert here coming in to lafayette and coming out of walnut creek. bay bridge toll plaza not so bad. this thursday looks great on the roadways except for highway 24 westbound now recovering relatively quickly. we had about four or five miles of back up starting to clear up heading towards acalanes road. much better drive out of walnut

creek. still a little slow. tr tri-valley, mild slowing. be careful out there. 6:32 right now. happening today about 400 students are expected to walk out of their classrooms and to the allen rock school district headquarters and call for change. kris sanchez shows us what they want and what the district would prefer. >> reporter: hi there. the students and parents want change particularly where the school is concerned. what the district would like is for those students to remain in school and the superintendent says that is really for their own safety. now many of the parents who will be walking out with their children today have been showing up in force at allen rock union district board meetings which they say have become dysfunctional. as we have reported in the past the district was subject of a six month state audit that found

poor governance and poor micromanagement. the district has no plan to repay a $25 million loan. most recently the superintendent and board clashed over her evaluation. which she wanted done in public, many members of the public wanted that as well. but which was ultimately done behind closed doors. now the superintendent did send out this letter to parent. i posted it in my twitter feed as well. they sent it out that way. when i talked with the superintendent about the walk out yesterday, she told me that she wants the students in class. >> we want them to be learning so the place where they learn sat school. and that's where the powerful conversations can be held. >> i want our kids in school. we want that. for sure. but then as a parent, as a mom, i have my kid in first grade here at this school, i rather him lose half a day of school than lose eight years without

having the right resources for his education. >> reporter: now i did reach out to all five school board members for comment. when they respond i'll let you know either here or on social media. this walk out was planned for a minimum day on purpose so that the students wouldn't misogyny more than an hour to an hour and half of cool. they plan to walk out at 12:30 this afternoon. later on in the day the mayor plans to address them as well. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay". >> thanksgiving their say. 6:34. and all new this morning another mountain lion sighting causing concern in san mateo county. this one happened overnight. sheriff's department said people saw a wild animal in pescadero at 2:00 this morning. it's the second sighting this week. two mountain lions outside of a home in boulder creek. the owners said the animals kept to themselves.

a violent night in santa rosa has police searching for three suspects. now we're learning those details of apparently unrelated shootings and stabbings. around 9:15 officers heard gunshots at coddington hall apartments. no arrests have been made. 30 minute later a couple of blocks away a homeless man says thieves stabbed him in the head at his encampment at prince memorial greenway. police say he'll live. the victim says those two suspects then ran way. >> continuing coverage this morning of the deadly officer involved shooting in san francisco. we brought you this as breaking news coverage of the shooting yesterday on "today in the bay". protesters angered and outraged by the shooting are sounding off taking their message of condemnation straight to police. >> no. let me talk to the kid.

let me see him before we shoot. why do they have to do that? >> protesters gathered outside the mission police station last night. it comes after officers shot and killed an armed robbery suspect who police say was hiding in the trunk of a car on kapp street tuesday night. friends toifd vict friend identified the victim as jesus delgado. we have video but you may fine it disturbing. [ gunshot ] >> two other suspects in the car complied and got out but they say delgado hid in the trunk. according to police a gun was also found in that trunk. happening today all six democratic candidates vying to be the next mayor of san francisco will attend a forum hosted by the san francisco democratic party and happening tonight at 6:30 at the san francisco lgbt center on market street. if you are interested in

attending you can get a ticket by making a donation but not required. organizers say no one will be turned way. people can submit questions to the democratic party to ask the candidates. southwest is offering more flights at san jose international airport. starting today the airline is adding an extra flight to phoenix so now there are six daily flights there. starting saturday, southwest will launch its first international flight from sjc to cabo san lucas. over the next two months airline will add seven new flights to houston, orlando, spokane, st. louis and other cities. looking over here towards the back up that continues to recover, west 24 off the walnut creek interchange now just about three miles at most with a back up used to be five miles. that crash cleared at acalanes. people heading towards the bay

bridge where metering lights are on. roads haven't completely dried out. 24 recovering. look at that into the south bay. there's a blob over there by the dublin interchange. we're looking at some light showers. there you go. we turn the camera right over the dublin bridge. that the extent of my coverage. >> green blob heading our way. >> yes, several heading our way this weekend. got that second storm system moving in on saturday. right now the timeline shows it arriving into the afternoon/evening hours so looks like early morning saturday you should be okay. inland 64. our temperatures will remain on the warmer side, not too cold, not jumping into the 70s. the storm system will be one of

but we got more incoming rain. i'll talk about that timeline in just a bit. >> live look at palo alto. smooth traffic despite the rain happening overnight. no major problems. i'll show you what's headed our way coming up. 6:43. new this morning bridge officials are looking into adding a third lane on the richmond-san rafael bridge in the westbound direction. looking at live pictures of the toll plaza in richmond. officials have added a third lane in the eastbound direction towards marin county. this is the video you're seeing. that lane expected to open soon. as for the extra westbound lane a bay area toll authority committee has approved $100,000 towards researching and developing a plan for constructing the lane. the fight for gun control coming to via headquarters in foster city today happening at 11:00 on metro center boulevard. advocates for gun control will rally and deliver 100,000 signatures to the credit card

company. they are demanding the company stop processing payments from retailers that sell assault weapons. more details now, a new survey monkey poll out this morning shows 76% of americans are angry or dissatisfied about the way congress is handling the issue of gun control. only 21% are satisfied or enthusiastic with congress. 60% of americans are angry or dissatisfied with president trump's actions on gun control as well. well no one really is sure what president trump will do about the tariffs today. >> staff has been caught offguard. >> that's right.. we thought the president was going to sign an order for new tariffs against foreign steel and aluminum today. we know some steelworkers flew into washington to attend that event. but this morning our reporters are hearing that's not going to happen. not a signing event, rather some kind of press conference or announcement. the president himself said on twitter that would happen at 12:30 our time, which must have

surprised the white house because it's not on the official schedule. mr. trump's turn around, if there is a turn around comes after 100 republican members of congress wrote in a letter asking him not to go forward with tariffs. at least not against every country with no exceptions. 100 signatures all from republicans. meanwhile the stormy daniels issue continues to cause problems. the white house said yesterday a mediator had ordered the actress whose real name is stephanie clifford not to talk about whatever it is she wants to talk about. here's white house press secretary sarah huckabee sanders. >> the president has addressed these directly and made very well clear that none of these allegations are true. this case has already been won in arbitration and anything beyond that i would refer to you the president's outside counsel. >> now that might not sound like much but there is substance there. the white house has repeatedly

weak. another chance of seeing showers into the afternoon on saturday. look at that. pretty good. so far-right now showers will carry over into your sunday. early morning couple of scattered showers and then on monday we were tracking another storm system. that will back off the weekend. but let me move forward with the timeline. if i take you through tuesday night into wednesday look at all of that moisture. this is a good jet stream that looks like it will bring a really decent chance of seeing widespread rain all the way from northern california even down through southern california. and this looks like it could put a pretty good amount of rain totals in the bay area. we got several chances of seeing more rain but we're going to keep the icon for showers for next several days even though it won't be significant rain we want you to be prepared. this weekend keep in mind saturday evening into sunday morning we're expecting those showers feign look at the temperatures we're not going to get too cold. we're warming up just a bit. mike.
