and good morning to you. right here looking is a s curve this is a live look in san rafael right now. you can see a lot of people on the go on a friday. mike will be here to check what's going on trafficwise but right now vianey arana looking at the weather right now. definitely a foggy start to the morning. >> foggy start but it's not cold again. we've been on trend with slightly warmer temperatures and that train we've been tracking overnight didn't make its way up here or down here. 51 degrees in the south bay, peninsula 51 degrees, the tri-valley also at 49 degrees. the south bay seeing nice clear skies, tri-valley also seeing some clear skies. check out the north bay, 42 degrees and there goes all of that fog in san francisco at 48 degrees, 50 degrees for the east bay right now. let's take a quick check of that doppler radar because i
4:46 am
mentioned the chance of seeing some scattered showers this morning, but it looks like that system, well, it stayed far well off to the north as we predicted and forecasted. definitely didn't see any heavy rain last night. we did see some spotty scattered showers in the north bay and some areas north of the golden gate bridge, though, late last night around 11:00, midnight, 1:00 a.m. hour we saw lots of that rain move out. let's take a quick check of that fog and 24 hour temperature change. we are four degrees cooler at this hour in hayward, we are actually running cooler, but look at all of that fog. san francisco, hayward, napa, santa rosa, remember to turn on the low beams, not the high beams. microclimate highs for today will be in the upper 60s, san jose a high of about 69 degrees for the east bay, low to mid 60s, 64 degrees for oakland. peninsula also into those 60s and for san francisco and the north bay topping out in the 60s. now, our next chance of rain holds off pretty much all day today and then by tomorrow we will start to see that system
4:47 am
make its way in as early as about 2:00, 3:00. you can see this was actually centered more towards the south bay. so we are actually expecting to see the rain initially in parts of south of the golden gate bridge. if you notice into the evening, late hours, san jose, palo alto into sunday morning will expect to keep those showers on the radar. the next seven days we are expecting several systems to make their way in. by next week as well. even a pretty strong one that could come into play bringing strong windy conditions by next wednesday. now let's go ahead and head on over to mike, he is tracking some police activity in oakland. right. here is our shot, our photographer is there on san pablo avenue, a major roadway. as you see right here, this is a dividing roadway, each direction is divided for the other by trees and a center divide. this the scene of a deadly crash, a hit and run so police are doing an investigation and that has closed the roadway. let's show you where that is on
4:48 am
the maps just off of 580. a portion of macarthur to the north is closed as well so traffic was already sort of a little unusual in the area. you can use adeline, use market just off of 580. no off ramps closed from what i understand, but that police activity will be there as it continues. meanwhile, sort of this yellowish color through oakland and through the oakland hills, the north bay, novato you see down in towards san rafael and sausalito, dense fog reported on the roadways. the golden gate bridge has a dense fog advisory issued by chp and you can see why. make sure you use your standard beams because the high beams just reflect off of the roadway. we see the rest of the bay south of oakland or even all along the peninsula that roadway and the view is clear. back to you, marcus. >> thanks, mike. at 4:48 as the race for governor heats up housing is squarely in the spotlight. all six candidates for governor appeared at a forum in sacramento yesterday. they talked about their ideas
4:49 am
for more affordable housing. republicans say it starts with fewer rules and regulations. democrats including gavin newsom and antonio veer goes is a had their own ideas. that includes tax credits or bringing back redevelopment agencies. >> we want to increase the tax credit and significantly increase our affordable housing. >> the state needs to butt our bonds in a trust fund that leverages cities and counties who are putting up their own money. >> one study minds 185,000 new units are needed each year. the state has fallen short in recent years by about 80,000 per year. now to a story all new this morning. this weekend we spring forward an hour for daylight saving and the world of smart technology, like our smart phones, our clocks really adjust automatically, but at stanford there's one clock that still runs like it's 1899. here is the story from bob
4:50 am
redell. >> reporter: at his young age michael hazard has already realized father time can be a crank. sensitive to moisture and humidity and occasionally imprecise. >> what do you guys do now? >> it was five seconds early. >> reporter: sometimes off by a minute over the period of four days. >> i don't think having an appreciation for this machine means that i'm obsessed with time, it's more the simplicity of the different components being merged together into something that can do such an impressive thing. >> reporter: that's impressive is that this seth thomas clock km igsed in 1899 is still running. the 1906 earthquake nearly destroyed t today it's atop this modern structure in the heart of campus always reminding students that they might be late for class. three times a week hazard volunteers to wind the weights that power this clock to keep the gears tic-tocking to the right tempo. this morning the stanford clock
4:51 am
is off because of normal weather conditions and needs to be replar recalibrated. >> you do this with your iphone. >> it's more accurate than a watch. >> by stopping the pendulum for exactly eight seconds. tomorrow the stanford computer science major, his mechanical engineering apprentice will stop the clock again, this time for 23 hours to spring ahead those 60 minutes, making sure this analog masterpiece keeps pace in our world of ones and zeros. >> we have this clock that's just this -- not random, but seemingly random set of gears in different places that somehow combine to make a clock that runs on time and there's actually some chance that you can understand this. >> reporter: at stanford, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> and i can tell you that bob was not hurt while working on that story. good job, bob. coming up on "today in the
