and four crew members crashed and burst into flames as it was landing in ckathmandu airport this morning. nbc news will keep you up to date on the breaking story throughout the morning. also breaking overnight, the trump administration is taking its first step at arming teachers with the white house releasing president trump's policy proposal for school safety. among them, allowing schools first to now volunteer for firearms training. the white house says president trump wants to make sure schools are, quote, safe and secure just like our airport, stadiums and government buildings. for more let's go to nbc's tracie potts in washington. good morning, tracie? >> hi. overnight we learned more details of the broad outline of what the president wants to do and wants congress to do and states to do and it involves the justice department training the volunteer teachers to hold firearms in schools, in the classroom and encouraging retired law enforcement officers and veterans to get into

education. strengthening background checks, but not the universal checks that the president has talked about after parkland. more money for mental health and protective orders to keep people deemed dangerous away -- themselves and others away from firearms temporarily. you did not hear raising the aim limit to purchase semi automatic weapons to 21. that's something that florida did and the nra sued. the president wants to leave that up to states but he is expecting to have betsy devos, his education secretary, chair a commission to take a look at that and other things to keep schools safer. gigi. >> tracie, thank you. nearly a month after the deadly mass shooting at marjory stoneman douglas high school some florida struntsz taking matters into their own hands coming to school on sunday to learn what they should do in an active shooter situation. maya rodriguez has the story.

>> the student response to the mass shooting at stoneman dougs has high is changing from commemoration to action. florida gun law signed days ago, the move championed by survivors as a first step in what many think will be a nationwide movement. >> it's either we see change or we're going to change our politicians. >> reporter: a student walkout is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on wednesday across the country. schools in all 50 states bracing for protests. >> no more silence. >> end gun violence. >> reporter: today students with walked a school near orlando to learn how to respond when the next school shooting tragedy happens. for three hours, nearly 40 students ran, hid, and at the last resort fought their way through active shooter response training. this is one of the instructors. >> >> if they understand what their role should be and what they should be doing you increase their chances of survival. >> reporter: for gabrielle it's a sign of the times, especially after what happened in parkland. >> i was a little scared to go to school the next day. like, there was also some

threats going around and stuff like that. >> reporter: the course focuses on three basic tactics, how to react when there's an active shooter. >> barricade the door. >> reporter: help those shot. >> tighten as much as possible. >> reporter: defend yourself. >> i'm going to grab that gun. >> including how to disarm a shooter. >> do you think it's wises to teach teenagers to disarm somebody who has a gun on them? >> at this point do we have a choice? i believe the answer is no. everybody believes the same thing. >> reporter: for my ka jones it's a lesson between life and death. >> if that happened to me i don't know what i would done and that's why i'm glad to get training. >> reporter: the instructors told us after a mass shooting they usually see an increase in the interest in these kinds of training programs, but that that interest starts to fade over time, that is, until the next one. frances? >> maya, thank you.

president trump's attorneys are reportedly doing everything they can to stop a "60 minutes" interview featuring stormy daniels from interviewing. lawyers are preparing to file a legal injunction against the taped interview said to air next week. mr. trump's personal attorney michael cohen referred buzzfeed to his lawyer who did not comment on any pending injunction. cohen obtained a restraining order against the adult film actress in late february to prevent her from speaking out about an alleged intimate relationship with mr. trump. both the white house and cohen say that the president denies the affair. daniels whose legal name is stephanie clifford signed a nondisclosure agreement days before the election that granted her $130,000 in what her lawyer calls hush money. she's now suing claim it's invalid because mr. trump never signed it. president xi jinping is poised to rule china indefinitely after sweeping changes to the nation's

constitution. china's largely rubber stamped parliament voted to scrap presidential term limits to allow xi to remain in office at the end of his second term in 2023. of the 2,964 ballots, two delegates voted no and three abstains. the amendments include other clauses that would further strengthen xi's grip elevating him to a level of power not seen since decades. janice mackey frazier is in beijing with the latest. good morning. >> good morning. no surprise that the vote was overwhelmingly in favor of abolishing the presidential term limits allowing xi jinping to rule indefinitely. he is in total control of the communist party, of the military, and of the state. so he could rule for the rest of his life if he so chooses. it is a bold move and it's one that is causing some anxiety across china. among those who don't want to see a return to the sort of strong man rule that defines the

era. there are risks ahead of infighting, personalized politics, as well as instability, that could also cause some tension with the united states down the road. for today, xi jinping was meeting with south korea's national security director. the envoy arriving to beijing to brief president xi and chinese officials on the proposed talks with north korea. he apparently heaped praise on china for backing the dialog to this point, though china has been on the sidelines over the past several days since president trump's hasty decision to accept that offer to talk with kim jong-un by may. south korea will continue on to japan where it will try to get further support for the inter-korean talks that are slated for next month. frances? >> thank you. usually slick ice means slow

so police and fire divers entered the water and removed the other five. >> witnesses report the helicopter filling up with water almost as soon as it hit the water. >> it looked almost like it was supposed to land for a second, like it was making an emergency water landing but within like literally a minute it was completely submerged. >> police say the aircraft is owned by liberty helicopter tours and hired for a private photo shoot. according to audio posted on-line the helicopter reported an engine failure during a mayday call to air traffic control. the helicopter has been secured in the water and will be towed to a nearby heliport. the agency plans to send a team to investigate the crash. authorities have not identified the victim. leading the news families are taking legal action against a fertility clinic ohio where more than 2,000 frozen eggs and embryos may have been damaged do you to a storage tank failure. the hospital official says now more than 600 families or

individuals are affected. nbc's morgan radford has details. >> reporter: all she wanted was a baby. >> just thinking about the possibility of having a kid and then having that taken away from you. >> reporter: now she is joining one of two lawsuits filed against university hospital in cleveland after a storage tank in the fertility center malfunctioned potentially impacting at least 2100 frozen eggs and embryos. speaking to the "today" show she froze her eggs after she got cancer and had a hysterectomy which left her unable to have a child. >> our embryos are lost so it feels like a whole other loss. >> reporter: this cleveland lawyer says his film will be filing one of the lawsuits on behalf of several patients. >> what we can do is hold the hospital accountable so it never happens again. >> reporter: in response to the lawsuit, the hospital says we understand why some people might feel compelled to take this step. any lawsuits being filed will have no bearing on the
