me. the bay bridge we had the rain coming down, oh, my gosh, i think the rain caused the camera to freeze. you can see the rain streaking down diagonally, it's hitting all these folks at the bay bridge toll plaza. i do want to show you the conditions out there. the backup -- oh, now we've got it moving again. awesome. we're looking at rain coming through the area, and it's definitely going to make tougher conditions for the drive-thru the area. now, overall we are looking at the bay's commute but i've also kept that radar in there, the traffic and weather systems share, and that's where we see that rain coming down for highway 1 and pushing west across that peninsula. you see the road weather index the green highlighting moving across much more of the bay. slicker roadways definitely will be the case wherever you are. the good news they've cleared that crash from inside the robin williams tunnel, south 101 recovering. and this crash is clearing from 101 around 3rd getting up towards san francisco. we want to continue with our team coverage here.

"today in the bay's" pete suratos is live for us this morning in marin county. >> pete, you're already seeing wet roads in the north bay this morning. sounds like the winds are kicking up there. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, laura and marcus, you're starting to see the rain pick up, the showers here and it's windy along 101 north in lucky drive. we've got the wet 101 here, of course, this can be an issue with the morning commute, it goes without saying as you're driving this morning, heading out the door, you want to make sure you drive safely here, you drive at a decent speed. give your space between drivers in front of you because of the wet roadways. we showed you guys video earlier of where it was raining in san jose overnight and that willow glen area, but right here we're standing in the north bay off of lucky drive, you're seeing the rain on and off, a little bit of a drizzle, but still even though we are not seeing a lot of rain it still can be an issue as far as driving this morning so you want to be safe when you are on the roads. you guys are looking now at that

san jose video from willow glen overnight when we saw the rain coming in. as vianey has been reporting all morning saying that the rain is coming into the north bay, we are starting to see it come in a little bit here this morning. we will keep a close eye on these conditions and have another update in the next half hour. pete suratos for "today in the bay." i want to check in when with vianey arana. she has a closer look at the timeline of this storm. the winds are picking up at least where pete was. >> certainly, that's because it's a cold front. it's moving north from oregon right now and what we're going to notice on storm ranger you can see how active that weather pattern s let's take you through the future cast. i really want to take you through this timeline. you can see we're still seeing at this hour the majority of that moisture off the coast and we're finally getting to start seeing it trek in. if you notice if i fast forward this timeline by about an hour you notice some of the heaviest pockets of rain moving through san francisco, half-moon bay and then we will even see heavier

pockets of rain through san jose, morgan hill as well. if i advance this to the 7:30 hour you see that system starts to trek east and what's going to happen is now it's going to meet the turn for walnut creek and the fremont area and also the east bay will start seeing some of those heavier pockets, but regardless this will be widespread at least through the morning hours and then it continues to move out slowly. if i take that all the way through 9:00 a.m. you notice we will still see some leftover moisture near the point reyes area and north bay. we are not expecting this system to move out entirely really throughout the entire day. we get the initial line of storm systems moving through and again it picks up at about 4:00 p.m. i will take you through you that timeline once again, but i will send things back to you. >> you can stay on top of the weather in your neighborhood by downloading our free nbc bay area app. there you can see live doppler radar for your city, for the approaching storm and when it's going to hit jaw our other top

story right now president trump will be in california today. >> he's going to stop by some of the prototypes for the border wall later today, but first the president will visit troops at marine corps air station miramar in san diego county. he's also expected to attend a republican national committee fundraiser in beverly hills. the president will not visit the bay area. now, this is the president's first trip to california as president. >> scott mcgrew, polls show that he doesn't get much support in the golden state at all. >> no, he does not. california, marcus, with as close to a separate country as you can get as far as policies and politics did go. there are at least a dozen cases where we are seeing the federal government or the feds are suing our state over immigration, the environment, travel bans, marijuana. mr. trump did make two notable visits as candidate. here he is in san jose as fans chanted build that wall.

>> we're going to build that wall. don't even think about it. don't even think about it. and who is going to pay for the wall? who? 100% right. >> that rally in san jose in june of 2016 was marred by violence as opponents to trump attacked trump supporters. san jose police came under a great deal of criticism for not stepping in earlier. anti-trump protesters were also there when candidate trump visited california state republican convention in burlingame near sfo. the crowds forced the trump motorcade to go around the back of the hotel ballroom where he was scheduled to speak and mr. trump was forced to cross a wall and a fence to find his way into the speech. an irony that was not lost on him. >> that was not the easiest entrance i have ever made. my wife called, she said, there

are helicopters following you and then we went under a fence and through a fence and -- oh, boy, i felt like i was crossing the border, actually, you know? it's true. i was crossing the border. but i got here. >> now, mr. trump would end up of course winning the republican primary in california. hillary clinton wins the state by the widest margin in modern history, in fact, by ten points more than barack obama won california. >> it will be interesting to see what comes of the event. >> what a reception he will get. >> exactly. >> we will stay on top of it as the president's visit to california throughout the morning. he is expected to land during our midday newscast so we will be here. stay with "today in the bay" for all the continuing coverage all morning long. >> happening today security will be tight in mountain view as controversial talk show host ann coulter heads into town. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live in mountain view with those preparations under way this morning. bob, i remember the last time

she was expected to speak in town, i think there were rallies. >> reporter: marcus, mountain view police will have a presence when ann coulter speaks tonight at the ifes hall here in mountain view. mpd will shut down part of the road starting late this afternoon and will have it partially shut down until after coulter speech. the only exception will be allowing residents to go through the road closures. the daily post newspaper reports that the liberty forum of silicon valley which is hosting coulter has hired private security as well. coulter's event is titled "in trump we trust." we expect her to speak out in defense of the president and his policies. the liberty forum's website reads liberals head for your safe spaces, ann coulter is coming to town and won't be pulling any punches. she has sold out the event.

about a year ago coulter's visit to uc berkeley was canceled. sponsored backed out after there were violence protests over a scheduled -- excuse me -- a schedule experience by political comment cater milo yiannopoulos. bob redell, "today in the bay." 5:08. busy day across the bay area as we jump back to our microclimate weather alert this morning. take a look at all that green behind vianey this morning. she's tracking that storm that's been moving into the bay area. so we're going to see rain all day? >> all day, but we will get breaks. once this initial line of storms moves out we will get a little bit of a break and then it looks like we have more moisture right behind that moving into the afternoon hours. we can technically say that this will be morning widespread with breaks of periods of sunshine -- maybe not so much sunshine but at least periods of stopping of the rain. now, our storm ranger is picking up pretty heavy pockets over san

francisco right where the golden gate bridge is, i think mike inouye actually showed you a great shot of that where we're seeing some of that rain coming down. overall where you see the frein it means it's widespread, but it's not downpours. so it's widespread light showers. where the yellow and red pockets are that you see beaming there, that's where we're seeing some of the heavier pockets. we will start to see heavier pockets moving through berkeley, the richmond area seeing some of that rain as well, mill valley, san rafael all seeing that light rain right now, same with san jose and even down through the santa cruz mountains. we've still got plenty of moisture. within the next hour or so we will continue to see this system moving through the bay area, trekking its way through for the next couple hours. so you definitely want to take some extra time out on the roads. right now we're seeing a couple of those pockets moving through the santa cruz mountains and you know how highway 17 gets. i know somebody who definitely knows how highway 17 gets and

that's mike inouye. let's bring him in for a check of the roads. kris sanchez also sent out a tweet earlier this morning saying it was muggy out there. right now this is kind of weird with me standing in front of the shot but this is southbound 101. our photographer road warrior ethan just went through the golden gate toll area, now he's going in towards san francisco. folks, this is wet roadways, slick conditions. definitely an issue for folks in san francisco. as we take a map system i have vianey's radar and that yellow more intense rain coming in through the area. that's what's going on there. we widen out the shot bay area wide and it's pushing in over 280 and 101. vianey has talked about that stuff. i can show you the roadway conditions as well. slick conditions all the way through san mateo county. san jose seeing wet roadways. a minor crash 680 at mckee getting off of the roadway there

we're tracking the rain, right now you can see it on our radar. we have this line of showers, we're seeing some of the heavier rainfall moving through san francisco right now and parts of the south bay through the santa cruz mountains. we are expecting this to stick around for the next couple of hours so i will take you through that timeline coming up in just a bit. and, look, right here the san mateo bridge over on the hayward side we are now getting the rain on the lens and of course the roadways. tough conditions as you cross over this high-rise for sure. we have a bigger look at that rain as it affects your commute which is building as we speak. 5:14 right now. big developments this morning, still questions unanswered in a fatal helicopter crash in new york city. investigators are looking into what might have caused engine failure. the pilot reported just seconds before the crash. divers found the passengers still harnessed in. authorities are trying to figure out if there is some reason the passengers couldn't swim free. we're also seeing chilling new

video from inside the chopper. investigators discovered the clip on one of the victim's phones. they believe these are the final moments before that crash. the tsa is facing new legal pressure over what civil liberties groups believe is the unreasonable search of cell phones. the aclu has filed a new lawsuit, it claims tsa agents are searching the phones, laptops and other devices of domestic travelers without just cause. the suit calls for the records of those searches to be made public including data that has been extracted by agents. the aclu says so far homeland security has not responded to the request for that information. now to business and tech headlines this morning, a major decision from president trump. he's blocking broadcom's over to buy qualcomm citing national security concerns. >> we turn to landon dowdy. good morning. >> good morning to you both as well. wall street could see green arrows at the open this morning,

stocks were mixed yesterday, though, the dow falling on lingering concerns about a possible trade war after president trump imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. canada and mexico are excluded for now, investors worry other countries could retaliate. the dow falling 157 points to 25,178, the nasdaq rose 27 to 7,588. president trump is blocking broadcom's $117 billion hostile takeover offer for qualcomm citing national security concerns. it would have been the biggest tech deal ever. broadcom's headquarters is in i think is a for but the company is in the process of relocating to the u.s. a raeg tore panel had warned that the bid could have broader implications for competition with china. this is the second time president trump has blocked a merger deal following at&t and time warner last year. and the world's most valuable company is approaching a big milestone.

apple's market value is at an all time high of more than $922 billion and it could soon be the first company to top a trillion dollars. apple's climb comes despite its somewhat disappointing earnings report last night in which it shipped fewer iphones than expected. apple stock is up 40% since then. back over to you. >> no surprise there to me. speaking of apple, new for you this morning a bit of bay area inspiration just in case you need it. >> a boston auction house selling a decades old job application that was signed by steve jobs. the apple co-founder filled out that application at the age of 18 back in 1973. a little hard to read here, but it was in response to a question asking whether he has access to transportation. he wrote, possible but not probable. naturally he listed his interests as electronics, design and computer engineering. it's not each clear what job he was applying for. if you didn't know jobs was

famously reluctant to give autographs so experts condition items like these which bear his signature to be extremely rare. the auction house says they expect the application to sell for $50,000. >> who owned that application is the big question. >> they kept it on file. isn't that interesting? >> and now they have it. possibly $50,000 or more richer. >> steven jobs it says. >> right. exactly. all right. vianey has a look at our forecast for today. a lot of rain hitting the bay area, it's going to stick around? >> definitely. at least for the next couple hours. definitely during the early morning commute. it got windy last night, we're seeing the wind start to pick up and our radar is showing a lot of moisture out there. we've got that system that directed in overnight and this is where it's at right now. doppler radar right now you can see those showers moving through and we're really seeing some of those heavier pockets moving through san francisco right now and through half-moon bay as well.

not really seeing too much rain in the east bay just yet. we will start to see some of those pockets pushing in towards the south bay and if i zoom in right now where the heavier pockets of rain are i will show you exactly what i'm talking about. right here right along the golden gate bridge we've actually got a live cam there. we can see those down pores coming down the richmond area starting to see pockets of rain but the green spots for the most part is widespread, lighter rain. so the heavier pockets at times will continue to make their way through. if i zoom out you notice danville not seeing too much of that rain, hayward starting to see some of those showers and then down through the south bay as well, saratoga seeing some rain, san jose trekking some light showers as well. if i take you through this future cast let's talk about what we can expect. within the next half hour or so, next ten minutes we're seeing what the radar is showing. we have light pockets here, light pockets in the south bay, heavier pockets far up in the north bay. so far we're talking sonoma county, santa rosa through the

point reyes, san francisco area. if i fast forward this timeline about an hour and a half to 6:30 you notice we start to see some heavier pockets of rain starting to make their way further inland. walnut creek will see some showers, palo alto will see some showers, san jose will also see some showers and really starting to see heavier pockets through the napa area by 7:30. so really right in the middle of that morning commute is when we're expect to go keep these heavier chances of showers. by 10:30 you notice an initial line of systems or this initial line will be far off to the east but right behind it we will still see lingering rain. if i fast forward the timeline through the afternoon look what moves in again at about 5:00. another line of showers moving from santa rosa through san francisco and half-moon bay. we still get another chance of showers in through this afternoon. we won't be in the clear when this first line moves out and your hour by hour wind gusts right now, santa rosa 20 miles per hour, san francisco 18 miles per hour, redwood city 19.

these gusty conditions will stick around at least through midmorning into the afternoon. by about your lunch hour we will start to notice them getting a little bit more on the breezy side. so we will notice the winds and then of course with the rain it kind of creates the sideways rain. let's get a check of traffic with mike. >> watch out for the sideways rain. the bay bridge toll plaza of course is where we have a lot of rain coming down. we saw some of that at least diagonal rain, wasn't completely sideways because the wind wasn't as strong but that was a factor there. we have a shot from ethan my road warrior and he has his van out in san francisco. he's driving south throughout the city, i think he might have passed through golden gate park and traveling south towards 101 or 280, i'm not sure which way he will take. you see the conditions out there in the city as well. we're talking about this radar which shows all this activity coming through where ethan over there is and a o cross that bay

austin, texas, are on edge this morning. people, two people there dead and two others badly wounded after a string of package bombings, the latest victim a 75-year-old woman who is in critical condition. a package was found outside of her home, exploded in her arms yesterday. police say that that woman was hurt just hours after a 17-year-old boy was killed and another woman injured by another deadly delivery. a neighbor heard all of that. >> i thought it was a shotgun at first but it was way louder than that and a i heard debris afterwards. >> a similar incident happened on march 2nd. investigators are searching for a suspect and motive. brand-new insurance data out overnight shows a spike in er visits for kids with severe allergies. a seven year study shows a 150% increase between 2010 and 2016. researchers examined medical claims by blue cross blue shield specifically the visits relate to a child's reaction to certain foods like peanuts.

allergy diagnosis decrease as kids get older. allergy rates dropped considerably for boys as they grow up. researchers say parents are getting better at recognizing some of the symptoms and seeking treatment more quickly when a child does have an allergy reaction. coming up on "today in the bay," a microclimate weather alert coverages that continues and this morning that commute going to be dicey. >> it already is when you see this radar, we're starting to see some showers move in towards the east bay. oakland, you're up next for some showers and rain, also starting to see light to moderate downpours coming through more of the san jose area, also through santa cruz mountains. i will take you through the future cast coming up in just a bit. weather alert this morning.

as a heavy band of rain moves in just in time fo we are under a microclimate weather alert this morning as a heavy band of rain moves in just in tieme for the morning commut. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we have been on air since 4:00 this morning to get you prepared. a live look at the drive in daly city this morning, that commute already getting slick right now. we have team coverage for you as crews span from the north to the south bay this morning, but first we want to get you up to speed on that timeline of the latest with that storm for that let's turn to forecaster vianey arana. >> i'm usually out there sometimes as well and i can definitely say i'm grateful to be inside this time, but kris and pete, shout out to you guys,

and also bob. doppler radar right now, look at the amount of rain that we're seeing coming in. so we've got light to moderate downpours at times and we have some moving through san jose, san francisco. if i zoom in on this map this is where we're seeing some of the heavier pockets of rain, now oakland is starting to see some of those showers, you can see a couple pockets through san francisco through the richmond area, mill valley. where you see the lighter green these are just light pockets of rain so it's not heavy downpours across the board. some areas are seeing light rain, some areas are seeing moderate rain, occasionally we have heavier pockets of downpours that do pop up here and there. now, we will continue to see these showers within the next half hour or so, even down through the san jose area. we have a couple pockets moving through there. that future can a st is showing showers lingering really just all morning long. if i take you through you that timeline by 30 minute increments you can see by 4:30 we will see

heavier pockets bushing through the napa, point reyes, san francisco, half-moon bay area. we get a couple more pockets that sweep in, 7:00, 7:30. this is a slower moving what seems to be line of showers. we will keep a close line on that. we also need a check of the roads, mike? we are actually out on the roadway with our road warrior ethan driving down toward daly city now. the water on his windshield. he's driving safely, but slick roadway conditions is an issue. look at your map, we have the radar pulled in so it's hard to make out. san francisco, south san francisco into daly city, that's where the heavier colors are and where the heavier rain comes in right now. as we get out to the rest of the roadway we're looking at the rain all over the bay, crossing just south of that bay bridge. that's why we see folks in oakland starting to slow a bit and the south bay. you see that road weather index leaves that green all over, wet roadways definitely a factor on

your morning commute. the south county no delays on 17, that's bound to be an issue as far as those conditions. let's go all the way north up to marin county this morning. "today in the bay's" pete suratos live at lucky drive. he's preparing for the storm there. >> absolutely. pete, how are things looking so far? i can see the rain starting to come down, i can tell in your eyes. >> reporter: that's right, marcus and laura. good morning to you. that rain is starting to come down, you promised it, it's coming down, you can see it coming down here on lucky drive on 101 north. this is typical of this area when the rain comes down you're starting to see a little ponding there. you can see the water flying up as this rain comes down on 101 north near lucky drive. you want to be careful while you're driving. while it's not a big downpour, when you combine that with the wind the visibility to be a problem. we're showing you guys some video of the roads from earlier

here on lucky drive as that rain was coming down. let's show the roads on the golden gate bridge, i believe we had ethan driving across the golden gate bridge showing you what the conditions were like not too long ago, maybe in the past 20 or so minutes. let's bring you guys back out here live to where we've been standing all morning, waiting on that rain. you see the cars coming down as that morning commute starts to pick up. you want to be careful when you are here on the roads. we will stay here along lucky drive and continue to monitor those conditions. we will have another update in the next hour. right now that rain is starting to come down. live here on lucky drive, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> good illustration to slow down as you head out the door this morning. right now we want to turn to kris sanchez to continue our coverage this morning. this is the south bay. >> kris, what are you seeing on highway 17 this morning? >> reporter: well, i can tell you that pete is giving me a glimpse into my future because i know vianey says that that rain is coming down south from north

ma inn are. we are here at lexington reservoir. on our drive here we had a hard time keeping the windshield clear because it was just so muggy this morning, the defrost really wasn't keeping up. the rain has started to roll in so that should help wipe out some of the fog near lexington reservoir. we definitely need any rain we can get. you will rts this time last year the santa clara valley water district was releasing water from our south bay reservoirs. we are not quite sure -- we are not there at this point, but as of february 50% -- we were at 50% of the 20-year average. we asked the santa clara county water district if that was a bleak picture. they said at that point it was not a big thing because much of the early winter rain was saturating the dry ground. since then we have not had the kind of rainy season we saw last year and the kind of rainy season we needed and so none of our south bay reservoirs are even close to half full.

take a look, anderson is the largest one, about 26%, coyote reservoir about the same level, lexington where we are this morning is just under 34%. uvas around the same as well, a third of capacity. some of the reservoirs are kept below capacity out of concern for seismic safety, that's earthquake safety. so we know we won't see 100% across the board. all of this rain will help. we will just try not to be grumpy about it as we're soggy for the rest of the day. kris sanchez "today in the bay." you want to make sure you download our free nbc bay area app. you can get those alerts on your phone when that rain is moving into your neighborhood. this is free and of course for your iphone and android users. it's 5:36. one man is in custody after a small explosion triggered evaluations in the south bay. morgan hill police say 6:00 witnesses saw debris and smoke coming from a home on mclaughlin

court. a dozen homes from evacuated and a hazmat team was called in. officers arrested the man who lived there. people were allowed back home three hours later. police have not said what they found at that home. killed by sae last week .. will make a court appearance. this as newly released body camera video shows officers firing en masse .. when that suspect who was killed ignored police orders. we want to warn you - that video is graphic .. but we stop the image before the suspect is struck. 10 officers fired 99 rounds -- killing 19 year old robbery suspect )jesus delgado ). the video was shown at a town hall meeting last night - and drew anger from the packed crowd. sfpd released multiple body cam clips in the name of transparency.

officers were responding to an armed robbery in the mission district. the two surviving suspects complied with officers. police say delgado tried to hide in the trunk and would not surrender. police also say officers found a gun in the trunk. a church near the scene of the shooting is organizing a prayer service later this morning. this morning - we )re learning which bay area schools are set to see walkouts tomorrow. local students are planning to join with kids from across the country as part of a nationwide demonstration. so far - our team has confirmed that students at 19 bay area schools plan to participate. they include schools in the south, east, and north bays - and the peninsula. plans include 17-minute rallies they include schools in the south, east and north bays and along the peninsula. plans include 17-minute rallies to honor the 17 victims in last month's florida school shooting. palo alto school members will receive an update on what the district is doing to better comply with sexual misconduct response policies.

federal agencies are monitoring palo alto schools after assault cases were inadequately handled at palo alto high schools. they are beefing up their title cm compliance. board members will get an update on the progress as well. more older drivers are getting into deadly crashes especially in california. a nonprofit that studies transportation data released the new report overnight. it shows nearly 4 million licensed drivers in california are 65 or older, that's the highest level in the country. in 2016 over 500 people died in california crashes that involved at least one driver who was 65 or older. that's third in the country. the report found the increase in crashes coincides with the increasing number of older drivers. all drivers need to be careful this morning because of the conditions. here we've got the radar going on our map here in the south bay so i wanted to show you the darker areas as vianey points

out and especially that yellow, that's where the heavier rain comes down, it's traveled through this area leaving a lot of water. a crash north 87 at curtner looks like it's having trouble clearing, that's the slowest drive. everything else is slowing a bit for the conditions, that's what you should do anyway. around the bay, especially on the left side, the peninsula side, you're seeing all that rain. really wet roadways. a crash north 280 has released traffic to one lane and through that area on the southbound side ethan was driving through the area, he's continuing south on 280, you see how slick those roadways are. when the lighting is better you can see that rain hitting his windshield. look at all those folks going north in towards san francisco with those head lights. >> we would like to be heading into the weekend. are we going to have a wet one coming up? >> that's a great question. judging by the radar right now, i know our radar looks very green, that's because this is the first storm system but we are tracking a couple other

storm systems that could affect your weekend. look at storm ranger right now, on san bruno mountain it's scanning. the moisture you see on the radar bringing pockets of showers, this is going to make its exit before the weekend, this initial storm system, but we do have another storm system that's going to come in tomorrow and that system looks like it's going to be the one that's lingering through thursday and then we get a chance of seeing scattered showers on saturday. now, the good news from this is that it looks like the majority of the rain will be along the coast, scattered showers through the bay and inland. we will be in the 50s so we're going to definitely notice a drop in the temperatures in towards the weekend. now, that system that will move in as we head towards thursday and friday with lingering showers into saturday looks like it will clear out by saturday afternoon in time to leave us behind a very beautiful sunday with some partly clear skies, temperatures will remain in the 50s as well. 57 degrees for the bay, 58 for

prompting new evacuation orders in santa barbara county. the orders cover the areas hit hard by the december wildfire. it includes montecito where storms triggered a deadly mud slide in january. authorities are telling people to evacuate by 8:00 tonight. the storm there should be at its heaviest tomorrow morning. new this morning people in one san jose neighborhood say that they are worried about an unwelcomed guest, i'm talking about a deer and they say it has been roaming that area for two weeks. now, the neighborhood sits south of the 85/101 interchange by coyote creek. people who live there say that that deer keeps jumping fences into and out of various backyards and really are worried about the kids in the area. one woman was -- >> as you can see we have a lot of kids in the neighborhood and we are in more fear of the children getting hurt or somebody getting hurt or, you know, a car hitting it. we would like to have it go to safety. >> she's worried about the ago since of that animal possibly.

neighbors say that they have reported it to animal control but say because that deer is healthy animal control won't take it away. nothing really seems to work. >> it almost looks lost, you know? poor little thing. where is snow white when you need her. we will get to the forecast right now with vianey. the storm hitting the bay area. >> yeah, we're seeing light to moderate rain out there, i know mike is tracking the traffic conditions and our storm ranger is certainly showcasing all of the rain on that ird ra. we do have that sitting on top of san bruno mountains scanning right now. you can see that high resolution data coming in. we can expect to keep these showers for the next couple hours. let's take you through the timeline. now, the pockets of rain where you see the red and the yellow hues, that's where we can expect to see the heavier of the downpours. if i zoom in in towards the

hillsborough/highlands area you can see we've got rain moving in through there and then if you notice if i take you over towards the san francisco berkeley area where you see those hues lighting up with the red and orange, also seeing some heavier downpours there, and even through the san jose area right now if i take you through that timeline you can see right now storm ranger is picking up some light to moderate rain in san jose, in sunnyvale, milpitas as well, through campbell, cupertino, all along 280, 101. both of these commutes will be wet ones, especially because of that ponding water. if i zoom out this map you can see we're seeing yellow pockets of rain moving through scotts valley, the santa cruz mountains has been seeing hit or miss showers but they've said on the windier side. that's because we've seen strong gusty conditions along the coast. reported gusts up to 40 plus miles per hour for the high elevation areas like mt. diablo. we see that line of showers and we're not seeing as much yellow or red, that's because our storm

ranger shows higher definition, it gets further down to surface level, but our doppler radar is doing a good job of picking up some more of that data coming in through oakland. you see richmond will start getting some of their heavier pockets of rain. if i move it towards san jose and saratoga you can see some of those showers there. let's talk about the future cast. right now this is exactly what radar is showing is that line of showers. if i take you through the next hour or so you notice that line of showers that was off to the coast and pushed through san francisco will now be making its way through napa, walnut creek and the palo alto area and then every half hour or so we see this line of showers moving further east and what will happen is left behind will be scattered showers, but we're going to catch a little bit of a break through lunch hour and then we will see another round of showers move in this afternoon by 4:00, 5:00 so right before your dinnertime we will see another line of light to

moderate rain moving in. keep that umbrella handy all day long. you're also going to notice it's pretty end windy out there. we know the wind is a concern especially high-rises like the san mateo bridge so we will be careful to track that, but we are also tracking surface streets. here our road warrior ethan is on el camino coming through san bruno. he has his windshield wipers going at a manageable speed. we get you out to the map and show you how active that radar is. over there through the bay bridge, through san francisco and also through the south bay, that's where most of the activity is he can to used right now. translating to slick roadways. almost the whole map is painted with that green highlighting now, very slick conditions. this is a problem. once again they've closed all lanes northbound 280 approaching seramonte boulevard. the car flipped over. still checking on injuries but we do have this closure for the

these are new surveillance images of that suspect. postal investigators say that that man stole a letter carrier's key, this is in sacramento last friday. now, other people's mail could be at risk. so they're asking people to be on the lookout. >> if they see somebody who is out that appears not to be wearing a postal uniform, doesn't have a postal id, using a key and taking mail out, contact us. that's, again, another set of federal crimes. >> the u.s. postal service is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading up to that man's arrest. a follow-up now to the rape kit backlog that's happening across california. state lawmakers are now taking new action to eliminate the backlog. more than 13,000 rape kits are currently untested in california. that's according to end the backlog. the campaign is working on comprehensive rape kit reform in every state. yesterday the movement visited our state capitol, gained some support from legislators who say

the latest. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we have full team coverage for you this morning as we track the latest storm to hit the bay area and we want to begin with forecaster vianey arana. >> you notice that that moisture that we saw originally off the coast now fully making its wei-yin land and that's exactly what our storm ranger is tracking right now. it is sitting on top of san bruno mountain scanning the latest information that comes in. we can see a lot of those showers now are focused towards the east bay. if i zoom in on this you can see mobile doppler radar there. where you're seeing the red and yellow hue colors light up, that's where the heavier pockets of rain are. as i head over towards the east bay, get ready, oakland, berkeley, emeryville getting some of the heavier downpours, alameda will see some of the downpours. oakland is following a little bit of that shadow, but 880 seeing downpours. the peninsula right now not really seeing too much rain in
