walking across the busy road. seen here in a rendering, it had just been installed on saturday. built using what is known as t accelerating building construction technology. a 175 foot section was prefabricated next to the street and moved in to position in hours. >> the risk that you do not get it right, there's bigger forces in the bridge than you expect. the construction, the company that built it said it's cooperating with investigators. and that our families and thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy. but it's not the first time that the company has been under scrutiny. it was sued after a bridge injured a tsa worker. that case is still pending. >> we are going to have the rescuers here throughout the night and if not longer. the focus at this point is going to remain on search and rescue. >> the national transportation safety board is sending investigators to the scene to

find out what went wrong. >> all right. gabe, thank you for that report. >> and could there soon be another high profile departure from the trump administration. the washington post and new york times reporting that president trump has decided to remove his national security adviser, hr mcmaster. five sources tell the post that president trump is actively looking for a replacement for mcmaster and taking his time so as to not humiliate the three-star army general. sources say that he is ready to leave and waiting for the president to ask. the story was broke earlier this month, saying that mcmaster could be replaced as early as april. should he be ousted, it will be the latest in a string of high profile departures. in the last few weeks, five top officials have resigned or been fired. but the white house is disputing the latest reports with the white house press secretary saying, just spoke to potus and general hr mcmaster, contrary to

reports they have a good working relationship and there's no changes at the national security council. russia is front and center in the white house, with the trump administration, announcing long awaited sanctions against malicious cyber attacks for meddling in the 2016 election. special council robert mueller issued a subpoena in the russia investigation. tracy, good morning. >> hey, let's talk about the sanctions. they are targeting 19 russians including some of those indicted here in the u.s. and five russian companies for as you said, cyber attacks and interfering in the election. also, president trump is now admitting that he believes it was russia that poisoned a british spy, a double agent, actually, and his daughter, using military grade nerve gas. that story breaking this week. all about russia, and the white house spokeswoman said, russia should be on alert. >> they are going to have to decide whether or not they want

peterson, 2:22 p.m., checking a door. according to a police timeline, confessed gunman cruz is already 1:00 in to his rampage and peterson is seen running. getting in to a golf cart and by 2:23 he is at the freshman building where he is still shooting. you can see students fleeing. newly released 9-1-1 calls revealing the terror inside. a student in hushed tones. >> a lot of bloork-- a lot of b please help, please. >> a teacher in a classroom. >> the shooting does not stop for another 5:00. and peterson never enters. that is him behind the pole. his attorney said that peterson believed that the shots were coming from outside. but listen to his own radio transmission, suggesting he may have believed gunfire was inside. >> shots fired. 1200 building. >> the sheriff publically condemned peterson who resigned.

look how much snow came down. that can be dangerous. it can melt a bit and turn to ice and fall off the trucks. if you have driven in the northern half of the country, you have been in those situations. we have two storms on the map. one out of colorado, and the other on the west coast. both will produce snow in high elevations. as we go through the week, we will track the system. by sunday, we have shower weather. it will go coast-to-coast and it could possibly develop off the east coast. colorado snow, by the time we get to monday, just rain and lingering through is outh east and by the time we get to tuesday. the storm will redevelop off the coast and have the possibility of heavy wet snow, northern virginia, maybe somewhere around washington, d.c., and by the time we get to wednesday afternoon, some of that could sneak in to southern portions of new england. so, again, it's early, and there's still theown

new on nbc news.com, president trump could propose the death penalty for drug traffickers as part of a plan to combat the nation's opioid crisis. he is expected to roll out of the opioid plan that will focus on tougher penalties, along with changes and treatment for prevention programs. it would take an act of congress to approve the plan. and president trump said it's something to start thinking about. monday's announcement will take place in new hampshire, one of the hardest hit states in the opioid epidemic. leading the news, megan mccain is fighting back at another political daughter over comments about torture. mccain asked to closely look at the cia nomination because of her links to for which you are ca -- links for torture camps,
