doesn't everyone say that these days? >> yeah. >> yeah, we do. good morning to you thanks so much for joining us, i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm scott mcgrew in for marcus washington. let's get started with kari. a whole week of rain ahead. >> yeah, we are seeing still off and on showers. i want to go back to that radar we were just looking at, hopefully we can go back to wsi-2 because we are still seeing the rain across the bay area. it's been off and on mostly across areas south of san francisco and off towards the east where we are going to be tracking that rain moving through. it's still going to be with us at times taking a few breaks here and there, but still not really letting up just yet. i will continue to track this on storm ranger and, mike, you have a problem for bart commuters. continuing throughout the morning, kari, theres a small area that has a power outage around the 16 mission station in san francisco so that station is closed for power issues. trains are running on time, but 24th and civic center on either side, so folks getting dropped off may have to walk through soggy conditions at times, just
6:01 am
take note, don't get dropped off at 16 and mission right now. no weather related delays for any of these stations and we are looking at -- any other systems i should say. we are looking at radar activity from kari's system with all that radar activity. we are looking at this on the roadways, the green highlighting any slick conditions all over the bay we have wet roadways so be careful. even coming up from the south county. 17 is fine across the summit, but puddling and ponding likely through gilroy. breaking news we're covering this morning, tragedy in a san jose neighborhood. at least two people are dead after a driver slammed into a tree on communications hill. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez live at the scene on casalino drive with what we're learning. good morning, kris. >> reporter: good morning to you. this has been a very difficult morning for first responders. you can see the tow truck here is still on scene here on communications hill trying to remove that vehicle that crashed so violently the engine block was separate from the car itself. now, the car did go off the

roadway before crashing into a tree here at the top of communications hill. if you've been up here you know that the roads with winding and narrow. investigators are telling us that the driver was likely speeding. a neighbor tells us the crash was so violent she walked out to find the street full of smoke and the engine block right in the middle of the roadway. >> i heard this like crash sound, it was really, really loud and i saw smoke covering the entire street. so i started to worry that someone may have got hurt. >> reporter: and indeed two people did go to the hospital and two other people had to be extricated by san jose fire department firefighters. they had to use the jaws of life to get those two victims out. now, the two people who were in the car did go to the hospital. as i mentioned, san jose fire did have to extricate them using special equipment.
6:03 am
they just left the scene in the last hour or so. i can tell you that the ground is still wet out here. it was likely wet right around the 1:30 hour when this crash was first reported. so the take away for the rest of us is do be careful out there because the roadways are slick and speed and wet roadways are never a good combination. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you, kris. developing this morning, rescuers frantically searching for more victims after yesterday's deadly bridge collapse in miami. these are live aerials from the scene. we're waiting on a news conference to begin any moment. you can see the bridge over the street there covering those cars. our newsroom is listening in, we will bring you any updates from that live news conference as they come in. in the meantime here is the latest at this hour. overnight crews announce that six people are now dead. that's up from four yesterday. ten others are still in the hospital, some with serious injuries.

"today in the bay's" wendy woolfolk live in miami this morning to explain where this investigation is going from here. good morning, wendy. >> reporter: laura, good morning, again, to you. authorities now confirm the bridge had been put into some sort of stress test and the cables were being tightened when suddenly it collapsed. rescue crews worked through the night searching the rubble of what's left of the 950 ton bridge. the pedestrian walkway still under construction came crashing down on to a busy street thursday crushing cars and people under massive concrete slabs. >> we've been working throughout the entire night. >> searchers are drilling holes and using dogs to find potential survivors. at least eight cars are crushed under the bridge. and it's believed people were working on it when it collapsed. >> that bridge, whatever is left of it, is very, very unstable. so we have to be very careful as they're moving stuff.
6:05 am
>> reporter: the pedestrian bridge intended to make crossing the busy road below safer for students was set in place just five days ago. witnesses could not believe what they saw. >> it was like an explosion. it was like a bomb. it was right behind us. you know, it coffin it could ha under that bridge. >> reporter: the bridge was built using a method hailed to be faster, cheaper and safer. it's builder says the company is cooperating with the investigation. a team from the national transportation safety board is in miami to lead the federal government's investigation. they've now moved from the rescue mode to recovery mode here in miami. unfortunately they do fear the death toll could still rise. live in miami i'm wendy woolfolk. back to you. stay with "today in the bay" for continuing coverage out of florida. we will be taking live reports throughout the morning. of course, you can get the
