good morning. it's monday. do you have to tell you that? you're probably already feeling it. looking live in downtown san jose we see clear skies in the distance and we'll tell you you should enzwroi today because there's a change coming. thanks so much for joining us. i'm kris sanchez and we want to get right to that forecast. good morning. >> good morning. over here, kari. >> it does start out with clear skies across the bay area. a cold morning as you get ready to head out the door. that will help wake you up on this monday. we're going to start out with the temperatures in the mid-30s for the north bay, 35 in fairfield now and it's 43 in san jose. 37 in morgan hill and livermore. our highs today are going to be really nice today. the best day of the week to get

outside. we'll talk about what's ahead as this storm approaches. that's coming up in just a few minutes. mike, you're taking a look at the longer commute. >> yeah, because well i can do that traffic overall closer to the bay is a lot lighter as would you imagine. a little bit of slowing, a little bit off the 205 in order to the altamont pass and that's typical as folks make their way off of 205. that's your typical pattern, no major problems. there's a issue in oakland but getting in through oakland and toward the bay bridge, no road closures just a few lanes slowing down by the toll plaza. i'll have a closer look as part of your oakland commute coming up. back to chris. happening tonight, a celebration of life for the three women killed in the veteran's home shooting in yountville. they were killed when a veteran

and former participate in the halfway home programe entered te building on march 9th. he killed the women and then turned the gun on him skefl. tonight will be a chance to honor the victims's lives and their work. nbc bay area will air that memorial live on cozi tv which you can find on 106 on comcast pelt stream it on our digital platform. it begins tonight at 6:00. we're also tracking a developing story in texas. another explosion in austin injured two people and it follows a deadly string of unsolved package bombings in recent weeks. it happened just yesterday at a home hours after austin police publicly pleaded for the people behind the bombing to come and talk to them. men in their 20s. they are now in the hospital. those victims and neighbors say it as a powerful explosion. >> we heard the explosion in our house. and after that my wife and

daughter, we all said, wow, what was that? >> it is unclear whether this explosion is linked to the 0 other bombings. in all there have v been three explosions in austin and just yesterday the austin chief of police increased the word to $115,000. a developing story here at home. a young girl is in the hospital this morning after a sheeting on a busy east bay freeway this weekend. police say it might have been the result of road rage and now drivers ever fearing for their safety after yet another freeway shooting on interstate 80. today in the bay marion is there with the story. >> reporter: they shut down sections of highway 80 in east bay to investigate another highway shoot nlgt east bay. >> the shooting occurred on the eastbound 80 at willow avenue where there were two people that were actually injured. one was an adult, another one a young child. >> reporter: and tonight vefr

investigators say they have an idea of what may have prompted the shooting. >> this possibly is an isolated road rage incident. >> reporter: something anita core doka fears when she gets in on the highway. >> there shouldn't be no road rage like that, especially for a little girl. >> reporter: this is the latest violent episode in a strichk highway shootings in the area the. chp says there has been more than 100 freeway sheetings in the east bay in a little more than two years. some cities have installed security cameras along the highways a deterrent. tonight chp officers are hoping someone who was on highway 80 last night around 9:00 could provide information to help them catch the shooter. nbc bay area news. well, the search continues this morning in hayward for two suspects who police say were involved in a deadly shooting. it started around 3:00 sunday morning at a hookah lounge near

mission boulevard in north hayward. bliss believe the victim was at that bar when they were approached by two other men. after the altercation the man shot the victim while he was inside a car. investigators now tell us they are searching for a motive in the shooting. >> i don't know if it's gang related. it's a crime of opportunity. this is a very expensive car. was it a car that these people were trying to steal? did they think that our victim may have had money because he was driving an expensive car? so those are all things that you factor in. >> officers are reviewing surveillance videos. if you saw anything call the sheriff. happening today, a he ploo hearing for this man. 57-year-old david emmy mish is accuse of killing these two best friends in february of 1986. the women who were found dead along mill creek roader in mission boulevard were best friends. mish was already serving an

18-year sentence for a homicide in alameda county three years after that, nine fe1989. we can expect big delays this week at the posey tube into the east bay between oakland and alameda. a sinkhole opened up there and it will take a lot of a week to fix. an underground storm drain caused that failing sinkhole on saturday and one full lane will be closed to drivers until 10:00 in the morning. then both lanes will be closed until midnight. transit says several of its lines will be rerouted as well because of all of that repair work and the transit is warning you're going to be delayed. we're there and we'll have a report within an hour. also, testing for high speed rail will close down several roads around san jose county. they will be doing field work or shake tests.

good morning, i'm meg terrell live at cnbc global headquarters. here are the top business headlines. markets will open in the red for the first trading day of this week despite a slight gain on friday stocks posted a loss last week by fears of a possible trade war and more white house turmoil. the dow closing 79 points higher on friday for a second positive session in a row. the nasdaq gaining just a quarter of a point closing flat at 7481. the this week the investors will turn to jerome powell's first policy meeting. the fed is widely cleblingted to raise interest rates for the first time this year. macy seas trying to make checking out at its store less of a hassle. it willing rolling out a new mobile checkout option to all stores by the intd of the year allowing customers to scan barcodes on items with their phones as they shop. macy's also announcing an

continues late into tomorrow and wednesday and thursday. and then on friday still some scatters showers that may linger into the start of the weekend. overall we are looking at quite a few rounds of rain and possibl possibly a few thunderstorms. and our temperatures are cooling off as well. mike. we're also talking about wet roadways but this is not a good stretch here. overall the commute very light right now as you would imagine. no major incidents blocking the freeways. this, though, is blocking half of your exit from alameda over toward oakland. this is the posey tube from alameda to oakland, there's been a sinkhole there and so right now they've got one lane closed that the that will be completely closed off from 10 to clock a.m. to midnight. your alternate is the park street bridge or the fruitvale bridge down here. you can take doolittle over as well heading over to oakland

area by the airport. keep those options in mind. that's swlau to do today and possibly throughout much of the week. they're going to be out there a little later on to give us a report and let us know more detail. over here a smooth drive getting over toward the bay bridge. right now this morning we have an easy drive getting to and through that bay bridge toll plaza. back to you. thank you very much. we are learning more about the intense search for a richmond man who's been missing in the sierra. he's been missing since wednesday. six feet of snow have fallen since thomas mularkey was last seen on wednesday. search efforts have been hampered because of that same heavy snow and avalanche danger. his niece tells us that weather conditions improved and search teams did search by air and on foot. mularkey san avid skier and his family believes he does have the skills to survive in the snow this long. they believe maybe he built a snow cave so crews were focusing their search near large trees. his family is still holding on

to hope that he will be found safe. today the first lawsuit will be filed in that tragic bridge collapse in florida. person filing the lawsuit was injured when the pedestrian bridge which was still under construction fell down at florida international university last thursday. six people were killed in that collapse. classes will also resume today. now, in the meantime the president of fiu is asking people around the down the join them in a moment of silence today which will happen at 1:47 eastern time the minute that that bridge collapsed. one day after vladimir putin won russia's presidential election there are reports of voter fraud. there are reports surveillance footage from moscow and three other locations showed incidence of ballot box stuffing. they allege that numerous incidents of ballot stuffing and other irregularities from russia's far east to moscow happened. election officials say putin won

76% of the votes but it's not clear how many russians voted in yesterday's presidential election. happening today in san francisco, work finally begins to turn an old muni car barn into a used performing arts center. we're talking about that historic geneva car barn and powerhouse right across from the balboa bar and muni station. the ground breaking ceremony will happen later this morning. it will cost about $14 million to renovate the place. the building opened in 1901 but was closed taf was badly damaged in the 1989 earthquake. coming up next on today in the bay, the bay area responds. he signs up for a program with unlimited access and is suddenly shut down. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. nbc bay area responds, next. but first happening now, a developing story out of the philippines. firefighters found two more bodies today after a fire gutted a hotel casino in manila.

the death toll is now at five. the bodies of two security camera operators were found after firefighters managed to control the blaze which raged all day yesterday. more than 300 hotel guests and employees were evacuated at the height of the fire. and england is dealing with a massive snowstorm again. parts of southwest england are expected to see up to 12 inches of snow today. hundred of flights have been canceled, roads are closed, sports events called off. we'll be back with more news after the break. cam

super commute. nbc bay area responds to the san francisco man who's movie subscription was abruptly canceled when he got fed up with the drama' calls us for help. chris chmura sprang into action. chris. >> daniel said he and his wife bought into movie pass, the subscription service that lets you watch as many movies as you fwhant theaters for just $105 a year. they said they loved movie pass. but then daniel got a notice that his membership was canceled effective immediately for violating the terms of service. now, what's odd here is that his wife's me ship wasn't canceled, even though they said they had been to the exact same movies. daniel told me he made at least 18 calls to try to get answers from movie pass. in frustration he turned to us for help. we contacted movie pass wasn't back and forth for about ten
