see that sunshine breaking out today. and once we get that, our temperatures are going to warm up quickly. here's the way we start right now in fremont as we take a lye look outside. it's 41 degrees. do you need to bundle up, a little bit of a breeze too. we have some mid-30s for those inland valleys while san francisco's at 47 degrees, we're here in san jose at 42 degrees and then as we get a look at our high today of 68 degrees in san jose, ukiah 64 degrees and 64 in antioch. mike, you're giving us a broader view of that early morning commute. that's right. we don't have any major crashes going on along the perimeter of the bay and that's where most congestion happens later on in the day. 101 through gilroy driving up through san martine, no problems up to the silicon valley. 17 to and from the santa cruz site, that's just fine. everything's fine. you can see san francisco as well. here's the tri-valley, no major

problems even out of the altamont but there is that slowing and a little slowing for 84 and that's a main surface spre street which when it cuts through. today there will ann celebration of life for the three women killed in the veteran's home shooting. the memorial comes a little after the week of the tragedy and that morning the community is trying to move forward. we're live in yountville with what we can expect and people still very raw there in yountville. >> reporter: yes, no doubt about it, kris. and that emotional care moan is going to take place behind me here at the napa valley center. and it's going to be an emotional ceremony honoring those three victims who lost their lives during that shooting but also dedicated their lives to helping those veterans battling ptsd. the names of those doctors, jennifer gray golic, crist yen

186 on comcast. we'll also stream it on our digital platforms and at 6:00 this evening. now to developing political news, washington is still reeling from the firing of fbi director andrew mccabe. this happened just days before he was set to resign. there are concerns on what the president could do next. today in the bay tracie potts is live on capitol hill with what this means for the russia investigation. good morning, tracie. >> reporter: good morning there is nothing here on capitol hill and the fallout we have not yet seen the inspector general's report but mccabe is speaking out saying it was politically motivate and he's report lid turned over notes of his presidential conversations to the fbi. >> lawmakers wanted to know did the white house lean on the fbi to fire deputy director andrew mccabe two days before retirement? >> but it appears to have been

people and this follows a deadly string of unsolved package bombings in recent weeks. the latest one happened yesterday at a home hours after austin police publicly pleaded for the person behind the recent bombings to come in and talk with them. two men in their 20s, they are now hospitalized. the neighbors say it felt like a powerful explosion. >> we heard the explosion in our house. enough so that my wife and daughter we all said, wow, what was that. >> it is unclear at that point whether this skplotion linkedexd to other the bombings but there have been in our austin. two people were killed an another was seriously hurt in addition to the two people who were hurt yesterday. yesterday the austin police chief increased the reward for information to $115,000. continuing coverage now on that massive fire that erupted in san francisco this weekend. the san francisco gate or the fs gate i should say is reporting

this morning the supervisor is criticizing them saying that firefighters were slow to put water on to that blaze. he says he was unable to reach the fire chief as that fire exploded. so far the chief has not responded to that criticism. that fire left about ten businesses damage and eight people without places to stay. some good news here, no one was actually hurt. now business owners are trying to figure out their next steps. >> everything is lost, everything. it's three 0 four feet water in the basement. i tried to get in, our main computer, it was -- >> four years ago i dealt with the same situation and this is four years later again i'm dealing with the same situation, maybe worse situation. >> now the cause of that fire is still under investigation. happening today, classes are expected to resume at martinez junior high school. this comes after a violent threat students from school on friday. the threat was found scrolled on

a bathroom wall. school leaders added that the threat was not found to be credible. also happening today, we expect some east bay teachers to protest in the streets. the alameda unified school board is set to hold an emergency meeting tonight to talk about next year's budget. union members say they want teacher's salaries to be a top priority so they say they will rally and march through the meeting at island high school which starts at 6:00 tonight. happening today, an oakland dmv is expected to reapril after being closed for more than a mondeaux to flood damage. that flooding happened after the copper wire was stolen from the building's heating and ac system. the dmv office on 85th avenue is set to reopen at 8:00 sth morning investigators say that they stole about $50 worth of copper piping last month and that sparked that leak in that office. you're have people looking outside wondering what's going

on. so far, no arefrts. traffic may see some hiccups this week. road crews will work on projects this week. crews will work one block at a time so each day only one lane of traffic will be open wherever that work is being done. today crews expected to focus on hayes between franklin and goth. new this morning, video from a north bay helicopter crew arriving at the scene. they posted this video showing a helicopter crew landing saturday at miller park. you can see one of the members being lifted up and taken to a stranded kayaker whose craft had tie taken on water. they say he was rude and safely brought back to shore. happening now, emergency personnel are trying to get

ahead of the next storm system before taye riefs. they posted a pre-evacuation advisory for people who live near major wildfire burn areas. concern is that a repeat will happen of that devastating mudslide in montecito in january. the next storm is due to arrive in southern california tomorrow and it may linger through thursday. as we continue to track that storm, we're looking at a boost and some tropical moisture that could bring several inch of rain to southern california. also a soggy one for the bay area too. but we do have a dry zart to the week and today actually the best day of the week but it's going to be very school this morning as you get ready to head out the door. we're only in the mid-40s right now in san francisco and mid-30s in the north bay. as we go through that morning drive in the east bay, look at that, our temperatures in the mid-30s. and we will get some sunshine and our temperatures warming up quickly by noon we're already at 57 degrees. we'll talk about what's ahead and more on that storm system in about five minutes. mike gets you out the door with

we're coming up on 5:14 as you get ready to head out this morning, it's a cold start. let's get a lye look outside in fremont. it's starting to get busy out there and our temperatures are going from cold to warm today. a very chilly start, but look at that afternoon. it's going to be a nice one and probably the best day of the week. tomorrow a new storm arrives. i'll talk about that, what's ahead in less than five minutes. and right now we're looking at san jose highway 101. you do see some company out there. typical. we see a little build over the next 15 minutes around 101 and 680 but overall these travel times show you the south bay commute is holding up just fine. it's 5:14 now and a cirque du soleil performer died in a tragic accident. this is cell phone video showing the moments just after that catastrophic fall. it happened saturday night during a show in tampa. the 38-year-old acrobat was on double rings when one of his hands slipped and he fell about

20 feet. a local tampa tv reporter was attending that show. >> all night it was a bunch of oohs and awh, and then when the performer fell and hit the floor you heard a loud gasp and it was just quiet. >> kirk due soleil tell us that the performer who died toured with that company for 15 years. the last two shows in tampa scheduled for yesterday were canceled. new this morning, dealtal airlines is looking into a mix-up that left two puppies temporarily stranded, but both have now arrived safely to their homes in idaho. so the breeder sent those dogs on the same plane saturday from virginia to minneapolis, but bad weather led to a reroute and each dog ended up on a different flight to boise. now they arrived yesterday, one day late, to top it off once the families was incorrectly told that their dog had landed but it was really the other dog and theirs was somehow on west

san jose. it's all clear and dry as you head out, no worries about rain today. and then as we go into the next couple days, as you get a look at that seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen you'll see there will be a lot of changes on the way. right now wee a are starting ou with the cool temperatures. it's only in the mid-30s in the north bay and 41 degrees in oakland, 42 in palo alto and also in san jose with our high temperatures for the afternoon in the upper 60s. it's going to be nice in the south bay. we'll be up to 65 in concord and oakland, 64 in napa. and in santa rosa expect a hive 63 degrees. getting the kids out the door for school in the morning in the east bay going to oakland will be at 41 degrees at 7:00, all of that sunshine means the kids will get outside for recess today but they do need something nice and warm to wear. we'll be at 58 degrees as you go back to school to pick them up. now, as we look at our rainfall for the month of march, we've

gotten in some spots over double the normal amount of rain that we get during this month. looktion at those surplus numbers at about 1 1/2 inches but our next storm set set to move of it will give us a bigger boost in our rainfall for the month of march. informantly we still haven't caught up to normal for the water year, but this is definitely working in our favor and we do need every drop of rain even if we are now at a surplus for the month. it starts tomorrow morning, rain will be off and on getting heavier on thursday and that will be the day that we will have the most widespread rain. still scatters showers on friday and even into saturday. so we will have a wet week ahead with the potential of getting rainfall totals anywhere up to 1 to 3 inches of rain along the coast in the santa cruz mountains. i'll be tracking that. and mike is tracking the morning commute and getting you out the

door. that's right. it's a pleasant drive for most of the freeways right now early so we haven't had quite as much build but it is out of here out of the altamont coming out of tracy and patterson area. we're look at the typical drive for the tri-valley. in the south county towards santa cruz, 17's great. we do have a crash and you see the slowing that's building up over the last five, seven minutes we've had slowing north 101 toward tenant. so that will be an issue coming up towards morgan hill for northbound 101. that's for some of our friends who have a longer drive this morning. over here towards the east bay no problems over there, een the bay bridge toll plaza, i told you i'd talk about the shift and we do have all lanes now showing the backup as we are about ready to have those metering lights turned on. right over the 880 krofr yos and that's fine but we bark to west grand on the approach. mass transit no delays reported but there's a change. caltrain suesing a new temporary platform at south san francisco. you'll have ambassadors over there to help you. that's nice an ambassador on the

abortion law goes before the happening tomorrow, a

challenge to a california abortion law goes before the supreme court. lawyers will argue the case on tuesday and the rules in question require medical centers, even faith-based ones, to give patients information about state-provided abortion access. about 200 centers in california are challenging that state law which they say discriminates against pro-life advocates. others say the law is merely a consumer protection. also tomorrow, a delivery could get a go ahead in redwood city. they also get the green light. now san mateo daily journal reports the planning smition commission could legalize both at tomorrow's meeting that the ordnance sets guidelines for growth, storage and shipping. alarming new data shows how many teenagers are riding in cars with people who are driving under the influence. overnight be we took a closer look at the study released from colorado state university. it says 33% of recent high school graduates say they have

over by the castro valley y, that my be an issue. here there's no slowing showing up. again, no slowing shows up open our sensors but we're told by chb but that there are two lanes blocked. 17th fine over the santa cruz mountains but we have that slowing north 101 near tenant because of the crash coming up into morgan hill. back to you. happening now rare traffic building in the east bay, you can expect big delays between oakland and alameda. crews working on a sinkhole that opened over over the weekend. we're live in oak wland how this is impacting that traffic. thousands looking so far this morning? >> reporter: good morning, markus. the cause of that sinkhole is a damaged storm pipe so in order to fix it they have to close the posey tube headeding out of alameda. right now you can see traffic has been reduced to a single lane but start agent 10:00 a.m. both lanes will be closed.

traffic has been impacted the since saturday in the say video of how busy the roads were over the weekend. ac transit is advising drivers plan for longer delays especially during this morning commuted. one way to avoid the mess is use other exits. of course those include the park street bridge, high street, and doolittle drive. if you use public transportation, a service plan has been put in place to keep the busses running. seven bus lines will be affected by the detour. as you see on your screen those are lines 19, 20, 51 a, 851, 96, w, and the o lines. those are buss that go from alameda to oakland. the work is likely to go through midnight tonight. ac transit says they fast tracked this project but it could take all week to fix so be prepared. reporting live in alameda, today in the bay. thank you very much. students will return to class at florida international university just a few days after a new

pedestrian bridge just crumbled killing six people. today the first lawsuit may also be filed in that tragic bridge collapse. person filing the lawsuit was injured when the pedestrian bridge which was under construction fell down on thursday. in the meantime rrtd fres of fiu is asking people around the country to join them in a moment of silence today planned for 1:47 eastern, the minute the bridge collapsed. new this morning, a warning at stanford after five reported car break-ins this weekend. university police say that the vehicles were parked near the museum area, specifically on lasauen street, low meeta drive, and roth way and another one in the track house visitor's lots. they say they broke in the windows and they say that they took backpacks and lap tops. developing this morning, chp is asking for help frorth

drivers who may have seen a road rage shooting that seriously injured a 5-year-old girl in the happened at around 9:00 on saturday night on eastbound interstate 880 near willow avenue. the chp says that there were four people in that car, that girl suffered a major injuries. a woman in her 60s was also hit and suffered minor injuries. chp shut down sections of that freeway for more than four hours to investigate this. we spoke to one person who says that she can't believe that happened. >> there shouldn't be about no road rage like that. i mean, especially for a little girl. >> so far there has been no update on the girl's condition. right now the chp is not releasing information about clues or possible suspects. we're learning more about the intense search for a richmond man missing in the sierra. he has been missing since wednesday after a day of skiing. six feet of snow fel fell since thomas mularkey was last seen on wednesday. the search efforts have been hampered because of heavy snow

and avalanche dang pert his niece tells us that weather conditions did improve and teams were able to search my air and foot. mularkey is an avid skier and his family believes he has the skills to survive in the snow. they believe he may have built a snow cave. so crews were focusing their search near large trees where he might have done that and his family is still holding ton hon hope that he has the skills to keep him alive. a man heading to court for killing two fremont women years ago. he is accused of killing these two girls in february of 1986. the woman who -- the women, rather, who were best friends were found dead along mill creek road. this is near mission boulevard. mish was already serving an 18-year sentence for a homicide in alameda county in nine een 89. police say dna evidence linked him to the other two killings. happening today, assistant an clara police say they want to talk about the prescription of some people of the department.

police say that the move comes after a citywide survey and focus group. this policing workshop is set for 7:00 p.m. at central park library. a warning for state health officials for the bay area. people are being told not to eat mussels, clams being har vet investigated out of the could contra costa and alameda counties. they could be deadly. the warning, however, did not apply to shellfish that is commercially sold because they are tested for toxins. happening today in san francisco, work finally begins to turn this old muni car barn into a used performing arts center. this is the historic geneva car barn and powerhouse right across from balboa bar and muni station. the ground breaking ceremony is planned for later this morning and in the end it will take

about $14 million to renovate the place. the building opened in 1901 but was shut downa of it was badly damaged in the 1989 earthquake. testing for high speed rail will shut down several roads around san hoe a and assistant april clara county. crews will be out doing the snake test. as you can see from this video right here, crews will use that equipment to create ground shaking that high speed rail trains could create as they go through. that information will help design the tracks that will eventually be laid down. the tests will go on all week. shaking the ground a little bit. over here we're looking at the south bay and no major problems. getting more detail on this crash, 280 at 87, sounds like it only affects the connecter and downtown. a mild slow down for 101 in that area. check on this crash, west 580 at redwood road so it's not in the castro valley y at the split

the heaviest rain will be in southern california where they could have up to 8 inches of rain. and that's going to cause some mudslides. the heavy sierra snow we're looking at another 3 to 4 feet there as this system taps into some deep subtropical moisture. here's the center of the storm we're seeing it over the pacific. the target of that heaviest rain once again for southern california, but we're not going to miss out. we're going to see the rain moving in for tomorrow. scattered showers as it continues into wednesday, but the heaviest rain will be on thursday. and by friday we're still going to see some rounds of showers that will linger into saturday and once again another 1 to 3 inches of rain for the bay area. there will be a chance of storms in between and temperatures cooling off. going from 65 today to the upper 50s by the weekend. and, mike, you're updating that crash in san jose. i am because i think i have more information that's going to be good for folks driving through downtown.

a northern well, at fif:55, new this morning police will increase security out of northern california high school, this after the threat was made against the school. now officers say the threat was not credible but they want to make sure those students feel safe. this is the latest threat made against -- at kennedy high school in sacramento yesterday. it's the third threat against the school in the past week. on friday the school was actually evacuated because of the bomb threat. extra officers and counselors will be on campus today to ease concerns of parents and students. >> we just want our kennedy families to know that we feel your pain, we know that you are
