ad lib live picture - dublin camera no rain yet-- but it )s on the way.. it is now tuesday morning. we are looking live from our camera over dublin. no rain just yet, but it is on the way. we have the proof. thanks so much for joining us, i'm kris sanchez in for laura again today. >> and i'm marcus washington. of course, who brings the sunshine on the first day of spring, meteorologist kari hall. >> love it. >> i'm trying to do something because i know yesterday was so perfect everyone was like i wish this would hang out a little bit longer. today we know that the rain is coming back. that is what we have in the forecast today. we are going to start to see that rain moving in later this morning. storm ranger tracking it all. that's the red beam you see, it's parked on san bruno mountain. the rain is very close to the coast so we will see it working

its way in as the morning goes along. we will continue to track this. also what's ahead as we go throughout the day, it's coming up in just a few minutes. mike, you are starting out with good news for alameda. yesterday we were talking about the full closure of the posey tube, that repair work was completed overnight. at midnight they reopened that tube, no problems this morning as far as that flow to and from oakland and alameda. this issue is going on for chp, they are blocking the slow lane because of a little oil left over after an earlier crash. your slow lanes blocked eastbound 580 at vasco. there was a little slowing ten minutes ago, it's sorted itself out. westbound is your commute direction so we're tracking that. typical slow there. we will continue to follow the progress on that oil spill. there is a crash on grant line road but it doesn't affect 205. not really a factor for most of our viewers. toward the bay bridge no problems. for these travel times. right back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. we have breaking news out of san francisco that our crew is looking into right now.

the san francisco fire department just rescued a woman from a fourth-floor balcony from a fire in the nobs hill neighborhood. this is all happening on jackson street near polk. and sfsd tells us that the woman is being treated by paramedics on the scene. there is still a primary search for other people that is nearly complete. we have learned that the fire at the five-story building is now contained. our pete suratos is headed to the scene, he will bring us a live report as soon as he can. more breaking news for you. a fifth explosion in texas. this time at a fedex facility. the atf says that investigators are not sure whether this overnight blast is related to the string of four recent explosions in austin. authorities are not yet confirming whether this was even a package that exploded. simply saying that it happened inside and no one was hurt. a big question people have, if this was a package where was it being shipped? the facility is near san antonio, but it is in the entire

area, of course, it's on edge after those explosions, some deadly in austin, texas. this is about an hour's drive from this spot. as we get those answers, we will bring those to you right here on "today in the bay." chp is investigating yet another freeway shooting in the east bay. the latest happened around 8:30 last night in the eastbound lanes of 580 near edwards avenue in oakland. a driver tells investigators that a bullet came through his windshield and hit his finger. officers shut down part of the interstate to search for bullet casings. at this point it is unclear where that bullet came from. and new overnight in marin county a man is in custody after allegedly firing a bb gun at another car. the chp says it started with a road rage incident. this is video of the backup yesterday afternoon as that investigation was ongoing at westbound 580 at san quentin exit. it happened just before 7:00. the victim claims he honked at the suspect after he was cut off and police say that's when

18-year-old kris perez of san rafael waved a bb gun and fired a shot into their car. he was able to give a detailed description of the car and the license plate. police were able to find the suspect a few hours later. "today in the bay's" bob redell is tracking the latest developments in these two investigations and will bring us a live report coming up in our next half hour. remember the victims of the yountville shooting. it was standing room only at the veterans home theater last night. family and friends as well as community members honoring the three brave women who ended up losing their lives to try to save others. wonderful staff members who were truly heroes. >> reporter: the heroes honored before a packed crowd at the lincoln theater are known as three brave women. jennifer golick, christine loeber and jennifer gonzalez. >> it's impossible to count how many lives they made better and how many lives they saved jr investigators believe one of the lives they tried to save ended up taking theirs when he returned to pathway home with a gun two weeks ago. >> this tragic event happened at their home. at our home. >> reporter: zach is a graduate of the program. he spoke on behalf of hundreds of veterans touched by pathway home. >> every day these women gave so much more than lip service. >> reporter: at the end of the memorial service family members were given an american flag to honor the three women. >> there's no playbook for what we're going through right now. i think we're going to close ranks a little bit, hunker down,

and find a way to grieve. >> reporter: cheryl hurd, "today in the bay." happening today, a santa clara county judge aaron persky will try to stop the recall effort against him. persky is taking the matter to an appeals court in san jose today. he is challenging a lower court ruling that sided with county and state officials allowing that recall to move forward. the per keys recall will be now on the june ballot. the judge has been under pressure after sentencing former stanford swimmer brock turner to just six months in county jail for allegedly assaulting an unconscious woman on campus. sharon katsuda will bring us a live report coming up at 5:30. all lanes of the posey tube in the east bay are open once again this hour. crews have been working around the clock since saturday after a sinkhole opened up there. this happened after an old underground storm drain failed. once again, all lanes of posey tube back open again this morning, it's too bad we couldn't say that yesterday.

good morning. i'm eric chummy live at cnbc global headquarters. wall street is set to open higher this morning after yesterday's big selloff. facebook stocks shed nearly $40 billion in value yesterday, it's worst day since 2014. the social media giant is coming under fire for allowing political consulting group cambridge analytica to access personal data for more than 50 million users without their permission. cambridge analytica also held that data for years despite saying it destroyed those records. analysts say this represents a big pr and regulatory risk for the company. another tech site reporting that facebook is holding an emergency meeting today where employees can ask questions about the incident. moving on to wall street, it's set to open higher this morning after yesterday's big selloff. the dow had its worst day in two weeks while the nasdaq posted its worst day in more than six weeks. tech stocks dragged down the

today in the bay on this tuesday morning. quarter to 5:00 right now. if you look at your screen you will see a beautiful picture of the bay bridge. nice and clear right now, but we know that that rain is moving in. it is a big day today, might not feel like t winter is now behind us and today is the first day of spring. the first day of spring means there is a sweet give away to celebrate. it is the fourth annual free cone day at dairy queen. some dairy queen and dq grill and chill locations across the country will offer up a free small cone of vanilla soft serve today. dairy queen will also collect donations from local children's miracle network hospitals which

is why we actually do the story. >> now i'm thinking where is there a dairy queen. >> they're hard to find. >> let me know where they are. >> i'm going to newark. there's one in newark at the mall. >> i guess we are all going to newark. >> we are going to the mall. it's going to be a cooler day so as you eat your ice cream and enjoy that we are also going to start to see the rain moving in. we're tracking it with storm ranger and that's our mobile doppler radar. the red beam already picking up son some of that rain that's offshore and it looks pretty heavy in some spots where we see the yellows and some of the reds. this is a look at the bigger storm system and here is that center of low pressure and it continues to draw in a lot of moisture tapping into the pineapple express that's really targeting southern california. it will bring them the heaviest rain, but you can see that we are on the outer fringes of that and we are also going to get a pretty good amount of rain as

well. as you step out the door you can feel the humidity. we are in in subtropical climate and right now we can also feel those warmer temperatures and now it's 54 degrees in san jose, 55 oakland and palo alto and 56 to start out the morning in san francisco. our temperatures will hold steady here as we go through the day as the rain moves in. doesn't really warm up that much and as you can see the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen we will keep some mind weather over the next several days. getting dress this had morning you want to make sure that you change it up. we do need the rain gear once again. we are back to the rain jackets and also something nice and warm like some long sleeves as our highs stay in the 50s today. pants an rain boots also good options as we will start to see some of those puddles starting to form later on today. let's talk about the timeline of the rain. we will start to see some scattered showers moving in, especially for the south bay first. morgan hill and gilroy will

start to see the rain moving in there at about 9:00. it's going to be very scattered today. we are going to see it off and on and mostly cloudy skies. it does look like it picks up a little bit more tonight heading into the day tomorrow, but still more scattered rain, off and on showers in the forecast. tomorrow i think we will have the potential of seeing a few isolated thunderstorms as well. thursday will be the day we will get the heaviest rain and the gustiest winds and that's when we will have the brunt of the storm and still some lingering scattered showers in the forecast from friday into saturday. we will talk more about the timing and also what's going on, but, mike, it wasn't even started raining yet and you're talking about rocks and mud in the north bay. a little alarming to me. most of the north bay -- look, then tire map looking great for those speed sensors even getting over toward the bay bridge. resuming towards the approach to the golden gate bridge through sausalito, right around spencer avenue. reports that the slow lane got some mud, rocks, what it sounds like is there may have just been

a little bit of a slide down the side of the hill, some rocks might have deposited on the roadside and maybe in the slow lane. i will follow up with chp. there is no slowing after the initial report, just a couple seconds there and then turn back to green. no lanes blocked from what i understand but again i will check and make sure that is the case for the next few minutes. an easy drive out of the altamonte, westbound a little build, eastbound slow lane blocked at vasco after that earlier crash. the drive from our south county, morgan hill out of gilroy, 101 moves nicely and 17 over the santa cruz mountains, no delay over the summit. back to you. the northeast is bracing for yet another powerful storm. another nor'easter that could dump more snow in the region. this is the fourth storm to hammer the east coast in less than three weeks. check out what some of that storm system did to move through the southeast yesterday. this is video of that damage behind after that tornado touched down in alabama.

large hail damage -- damaged several cars. again, this is in alabama. that system expected to gain strength as it moves up north today. 20 million people are in its path. saudi arabia's crown prince is scheduled to meet president trump at the white house today. he will focus on shoerg up u.s./saudi ties. it is not clear if president trump will address the harsh tactics that the prince has been using to launch social and economic reforms in his country or the bombings in yemen that have killed thousands of civilians. the prince's trip doesn't end in washington. he will spend the next three weeks traveling all across the u.s. today we celebrate wildlife here in the golden state. it's california wildlife day. if you haven't heard of it the state legislature recognized it as an official day last year. the point is to preserve, restore and honor our precious environment and all of the animals that live here in the state. today the linzie wildlife

it tries to sell itself. the weinstein company is file for bankruptcy protection as it tries to sell itself. the company was founded by producer harvey weinstein who was fired as chairman after several women accused him of sexual misconduct or rape. the company is also canceling any nondisclosure agreement that would prevent them from speaking out. weinstein denies all allegations. it was always a wonderful day in the neighborhood when mr. rodgers was around. >> and if fred rodgers was still alive he would be celebrating his 90th birthday. the television show personality passed away in 2003. his show ran from 1968 to 2001 on pbs. america is not ready to stay good-bye to mister rodgers just yet. a postage stamp is coming out soon. also a new documentary and movie

after all so we are really excited about that. and still getting the winter storms, right? so we are going to see some rain moving in today all across the bay area, we are also starting to see some of the light showers developing for the north bay and this is all just offshore, you can see the big cluster of the rain that's already starting to stretch its way into sonoma and northern napa counties. so this is where we see the rain now in petaluma, reaching over toward napa, as well as st. helena. the bigger picture shows that we are going to have a lot more rain where that came from. i will talk more about the timing coming up and, mike, you were updating the rocks on the road in the north bay. we had reports of rocks and mud down over highway 101. overall the speed sensors looks great, south bay no problem, peninsula is great, it's 101 right around spencer avenue. as we thought just a few rocks and they are cleared from the roadway, it's not a rock or mud slide, that was just a category chp had to pick. no delays for the north bay.
