>> you are holding it down for us. >> thank you. i'm trying. i'm trying to fill her shoes, little bitty shoes, but they are big shoes. >> i have big shoes as well if you want to fill them. i'm marcus washington, thanks so much for joining us on this rainy morning. of course, this is something we're dealing with throughout the bay area today, we will have to get used to this for a while. >> those shoes need to be rain boots because we're going to see more rain coming through today and it's going to be soggy at times. we are already seeing this all around the bay area as we track it live with our storm ranger mobile doppler radar parked on san bruno mountain. we've seen some of the heaviest rain this morning moving through the north bay. it's been scattered all over the place. when you think you have a break it starts up once again. i've been tracking the rain moving across 580, through the tri-valley and also up towards san ramon. we're getting pockets of heavy rain. as we go throughout the day it's still going to be raining off and on and you can track it all with our mobile app on nbc bay

area. get that app so that you can track the rain as well. it's going to be picking up later on tonight. mike, you have a big problem for the nimitz freeway. >> i do, kari. folks at home i want you to look at this picture. normally we look at this shot over by the coliseum, i have it zoomed in and we are focusing on the build northbound with those taillights heading up toward the bay bridge. the metering lights are on up there, but look at the big jam southbound, that is the big alert from high street all the way down past the coliseum, three, almost four miles of backup down past davis where we have two right lanes blocked by the crash and two car fires after the crash. no major injuries reported. major, major backup. get over toward san leandro street or international, one option. also eastbound 580 coming out of that area another option for you just to get down toward 92 and the hayward area. over here 24 looks like it's slowly recovering after that crash, looks like it may have cleared from that slow lane but i will leave it there until chp

gives me the final all clear. wet roadways slowing you down down the east shore freeway. minor flooding for the north bay and oakland. watch for big puddles. we will hand it right back to you. breaking news outside of austin, texas, where authorities say the man behind the recent string of bombings is dead after an early morning confrontation with police. the drama unfolded a little before 3:00 this morning and police say the suspect detonated a bomb inside his car as the s.w.a.t. team was moving in. all police are saying at this point about that suspect is that he is a 24-year-old white man. for hours they tracked him before he eventually drove his car into a ditch and then blew himself up. a reporter for our austin affiliate spoke with one witness who lives nearby. >> we got up right next to where it happened and it looked like there was a couple cars that had collided and it looked like it ended pretty bad. >> at least five explosions rocked the area in and around

austin since early march. two people were killed in one of those explosions. authorities are also telling everyone, though, still to remain on the lookout because while the suspected bomber may be dead, there may be unexploded devices still out there. and back to our microclimate weather this morning. taking live look at our radar from nbc bay area storm ranger showing that rain in parts of the bay area. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos is live in corte madera this morning to show you us the conditions there. the cars are putting off so much water when they drive by. >> reporter: that's right, kris. good morning to you. it has been a continuous downpour here near lucky drive in corte madera. you just mentioned, kris, cars driving by us, that pool of water continuing to stand there and it's been like that all morning long, even on my drive in on the richmond-san rafael bridge, you saw a flood warning sign, an electric sign, as you

approach lucky drive. talking about the flooding conditions that we're seeing here right now. i want to show you guys some video from earlier when that water -- it seemed like there may have been an inch or two more as folks were driving through here this morning. of course, you want to be careful of your speed when you're dealing with these conditions. we had a chance to talk to a few drivers this morning as they were gassing up and getting ready to hit the road. >> the reservoirs and the wildlife and everything needs all the weather. >> yeah, a lot of people don't know how to drive, so, yeah, you get a lot of accidents. >> it's good. it's good. we need the water. >> reporter: taking you back out here live, look at these cars driving through the water here on lucky drive, as you can see there's a lot of standing water as a result of the rain that we're seeing this morning. chp telling folks to be careful as they're driving so you want to reduce your speed as you're driving in this weather of course as we get any major updates we will update you through the show and also on my social media account.

we're live near lucky drive, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thank you, pete. kari, you've been telling us about this, we're going to see this off and on throughout the day. when will we see the big part of that storm? >> that moves in later tonight and throughout the day tomorrow. this is part of a bigger storm system that's bringing in some subtropical moisture from hawaii and an atmospheric river spans about 200 to 300 miles wide, but the length goes back about 2500 miles, so this is a big storm system and it takes a while for it to work its way through the bay area. so as we get a look at more and more rain coming off of the pacific, this is what we will see as the day goes along and embedded in that we get these little disturbances that causes the rain to boost up in totals and also brings down gustier winds. once again we will get that for tonight into tomorrow. i will be tracking that and i will be back in less than three minutes with another weather update. >> thank you, kari. we want to get -- make sure that

you are ready for the brunt of the storm as it barrels through. "today in the bay" will start early tomorrow starting at 4:00 in the morning, but our crews will be out overnight gathering everything you need to know in time for tomorrow's commute. 6:06 right now. new details this morning on the sexual assault investigation under way right now at san jose state university on the campus. court records reveal new information about that suspect. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live outside of elmwood correctional facility, this in milpitas, where that suspect is being held. we are learning a lot of new information about what that suspect did. >> reporter: correct, good morning, marcus, court and police records indicate that the suspect luis ramirez venegas allegedly tried to sexual assault one man on campus by placing him in a choke hold and reportedly sexual assaulted another man while that man was, quote, blackout drunk. this is according to morning by the mercury news.

venegas seen in court last week faces five felony charges related to alleged attacks on two men on campus. san jose police arrested venegas on march 5th of this year after they say he made advances on a friend two days before in the campus village a dormitory. a corked to the merc the friend resisted, venegas tried to choke him from behind, the friend fought back and called law enforcement. venegas allegedly performed sexual acts on another friend in the same dorm in 2014 and 2015 when that friend was passed out drunk. the merc reports that victim became suicidal once venegas told him of the assault and was in ishlly too ashamed and afraid to speak to investigators. venegas' attorney failed to convince a judge that he should be released on his own recould go nance to his apartments. he remains at the men's jail the correctional facility in milpitas on $210,000 bond. the san jose state police department is trying to find

out, they believe tried to sexual assault possible that there might be other survivors. that's a term that they are using referring to the victims. so if you have any information, law enforcement would like to hear from you. reporting live here in milpitas, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> oftentimes you do hear of survivors afraid to come forward, but police want them to do so. thank you so much. new this morning, check out this video, we just got into our newsroom. that's a man there on top of that roof, it is a two-story home in san jose. we can tell you that that man is now in custody after a standoff with police that lasted hours. police officers say they were called to a disturbance on berkshire drive mere almaden expressway around 11:00 last night and found that suspect on the roof of that two-story home. it turns out that the person in the home had a restraining order against that suspect. san jose fire department was also called in so that officers could use their fire ladder. the suspect came down after three hours and surrendered to

officers safely. he has not been identified. happening today travelers using mineta airport in san jose may see more activity than usual. emergency personnel will conduct a full scale disaster drill scheduled to happen at 9:00 this morning. this is video from last year's drill by the airport is required to conduct every three years. this year's test simulates the response to a bird strike causing an airplane to lose the use of its flaps. police, fire and medical personnel will all take part in this. it is 6:09 now, still tracking rain around the bay area. some of the heaviest rain we've seen before you step out the door right now has been in the north bay as well as the east bay. as we continue to see the waves of rain moving through today, it will remain scattered, but thunderstorms will be possible by this afternoon, they could bring in small hail as well and the rain gets heavier as we go into tonight and more widespread. our winds will pick up with gusts up to 30 miles per hour, but then as we go through the heaviest and the brunt of the

storm we will catch a break thursday evening, but we won't be completely done with the rain just yet. i'm going to take you to fremont in about three minutes, but, mike, you have sky ranger over a crash in san leandro. that's right. sky ranger over the scene here. at its very worst -- actually, you see two lanes going. you're down to just the hov heading southbound and that's why this is such a bad choke point southbound 880 just shy of davis coming down through san leandro. flashlights, they're looking for everything to sweep up after a trash crash and two car fires as well. chp blocks, again, three, possibly four lanes at time heading south past the scene. do you see the sheen on the roadway? i hope there is no oil spill they need to clean up. looking alt your maps we see the big jam, four miles of backup high street southbound all the way to davis, san leandro street, eastbound 580 are better

all the vehicles, looks like it's just these crews working hard trying to clear leftovers after car fires and a crash. down to just the hov and one lane at davis. that's got three miles of backup. we will show you ways around this coming up. and good morning to you, the fed starts a two-day interest rate meeting this week. we expect rate hikes by wednesday. amazon is now the second largest company in the united states by market capitalization. overall value. the business story of the day or the week or the month is facebook. facebook lost more than $50 billion in market cap over the last couple of days as it deals with its biggest crisis in its 14 years of operation. $50 billion worth of value is gone. the big question has been where is mark zuckerberg in all of this. our jo ling kent says he will speak in the next 24 hours. facebook will meet with lawmakers again today. this is video from past

testimony from facebook, twitter and google last november. we didn't see ceos at this meeting, either. the u.s. congress may be facebook's smallest problem. the ftc is investigating facebook's relationship to cambridge analytica and why it allowed so much of your information to leak. huge fines are a strong possibility. the europeans are investigating as well. meanwhile, channel 4 in great britain ran another exposé on cambridge analytica last night. here is undercover video from last night's report as cambridge analytica's chief executive says congressional republicans barely questioned them. five minutes he said. >> five minutes? >> five minutes, done. the democrats add two hours. >> and you had to answer answering? >> no, it's video but i did because i was trying to help them. we have no secrets. they're politicians they're not technical. they don't understand how it works. they don't understand because the candidate never, is never

involved. he's told what to do by the campaign. >> so the candidate is the puppet? >> always. >> it is possible cambridge analytica was able to use ill gotten facebook data to create laser focused campaign materials in states like wisconsin, pennsylvania and michigan that was enough to tip the election. in that undercover report the chief data scientist implies just that. now, a lot of people are talking about deleting their facebook and you can do that, but at the very least you should go into facebook settings and see what sort of apps you are allowing to access your facebook data. this is mine right from my facebook plucked just a short time ago. this is just the as and the bs. i've been on facebook ten years, i have hundreds of these, many i don't recognize, plants versus zombies, why would i have given them access to my data? i have no idea. you have to go in there and individually delete each one. facebook really ought to add a do you want to delete everything and start over again on your apps, that would make a lot more

a little bit. >> i heard you have a lot more time to drink your coffee if you're going to sfo this morning because they have four hour delays. we have storms on both coasts so this is really having a big impact. i guess you are just sitting back and drinking that coffee this morning, but if you have to get out the door you're staying here locally i want you to show you storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar parked on san bruno mountain. showing the scattered rain giving us a soggy commute. i put trackers on this cell moving into sonoma county, it will be in petaluma within the next ten minutes. you have just a few more minutes before the rain gets heavier and then that continues off towards the north and east. also in the east bay i'm seeing a lot of showers coming down on highway 4, but i also wanted to show you the amount of detail that you're lacking if you're looking at some of the other stations as you look at what storm ranger can show, i want to go back, this is exactly where the rain ask falling, but then

you look at the amount of detail you lose when you don't have storm ranger like we have here on nbc bay area. so really giving us a high amount of detail as we track more rain that will be moving through off and on throughout the day, even as we go into early afternoon. some scattered showers and then the brunt of the storm and the heavier rain arrived later on tonight as we will see the rain picking up in intensity and the winds picking up as well. we have vianey arana talking more about those winds and when we will see them increasing. good morning, kari, that's right. i have been looking at the model in terms of rain totals for the next couple hours. if we can pop up some of those rain models right now, i'm on the santa clara university campus. it's drizzling here but tomorrow they will have to plan for a downpour. as far as rain totals the higher elevation areas will be about 6 miles -- or rather about half an inch.

if we are talking about the wind, though, wind speeds through tonight will start to pick up at around 7:00. if you look at the north bay/santa rosa area, 20 plus miles per hour. it is expected to get a lot gustier come tomorrow morning. if you look along the coast, san francisco 27 miles per hour, half-moon bay 32 miles per hour and heading inland toward east bay, orinda, livermore 20 plus miles per hour. expect to see that wind i can kicking up especially as that cold front makes it's way into into early tomorrow morning. in addition to the higher rain totals, we are expecting higher rain totals in the north bay and santa cruz with urban areas expecting a quarter to a half an inch of rain through tomorrow night. scattered showers will continue through friday and saturday morning. for now watch out for the wind and rain as we head in towards tomorrow. >> we were saying it's better to have a rain jacket rather than an umbrella because those winds will be picking up and it's going to be cooling off as well as we look at our seven-day forecast.

in san francisco today 63 degrees, but 57 degrees tomorrow and we do watch a break as we head towards sunday, but we have rain in the forecast from today through at least saturday. mike, you're saying there is some progress on that crash in san leandro. >> not quite as much as chp wants because they did say all lanes have cleared, but our chopper was over the scene showing one lane still expected for a small space as the chp vehicles were clearly in the last couple seconds. looks like traffic flows for all five lanes including the hov lane south past dallas. northbound distracted but they're cleared. southbound a good recovery. let's look at your map how far we have to slow it down. looki looking at waze with the jack, it takes about an hour down to 92 that's because of all the jam we have for that crash. that has to recover. right now eastbound 580 will save you half that time. at least 20 minutes. if you join nbc bay area wazers

nbc bay area responds to a san francisco woman who wanted store credit, but got nothing. she got silence in return. >> very dramatic. she turned to our consumer team for a hand and here is consumer investigator chris chmura with our response. >> after kelly got married she returned a few of the gifts that she got because she just didn't need them. she sent them back to pottery barn and she tells us she was set to get $230 in store credit by the u.s. mail. via the mail because that's how pottery barn handles registry returns, by mail. kelly says her credit never arrived. after a month and a half kelly called customer service, she was promised a call back and that never happened so she reached out to us for help. we e-mailed pottery barn and the next day the store called kelly to give her the $230 credit. pottery barn told us it was changing its policy for registry returns and kelly got caught in

we've seen the heavier rain focused across parts of the north bay and east bay. i want to take you down to the exact street level we've seen and the individual cells that have been popping up for parts of the north bay, right there in san rafael across 101, also extending across the bay, also seeing pockets of heavier rain on highway 4 as we get a look at what's happening as this just moved through concord. expect if you have to drive through the delta some pockets of heavy rain. also saw that rain that just moved through oakland that's now pushed off towards the north and east around piedmont. we will cross the bay to go to 101 on the peninsula where i'm seeing rain that's moving north of fair oaks and about to cross into the bay. a lot more rain where this came from. there may be a bit of a break by early afternoon. i'm tracking this and also when the winds pick up and a look ahead to the weekend forecast, a lot to talk about, in just a few minutes. mike, you are tracking problem spots for drivers on the road. we are looking at that

earlier traffic alert which has cleared. we are looking at this red sweeping arm, that's the data from storm ranger kari is talking about. that's the fastest updating radar we have in the bay area, most accurate. that's what we're showing. i put that overlay to show you where the activity is. through the north bay and east bay. that's where we see a lot of the slowing because of the traffic volume build and wet roadways. over here we are looking at recovery. for 880 southbound look at how quickly this is recovering because a lighter volume of traffic has been the theme this week. 242 an earlier crash through concord slowed a little extra there. we are following break this morning. the serial bombing suspect in austin, texas, is dead. >> golden gate bridge is in sunset valley, texas, this morning. gabe, officials just identified the suspect. what do we know about him? >> reporter: hi, marcus and kris. good morning. breaking news within the past

few minutes, two law enforcement officials identified the suspect to nbc news as 24-year-old mark anthony condit. we are trying to piece together more details but we understand investigators are going through a family member's home and trying to find out what may have motivated this suspect to go and cause all this chaos throughout austin. this has been a developing story throughout the night with fast moving developments. just a short time ago authorities gave a briefing here where they described exactly what happened. they say that investigators were able to track the suspect down to a hotel parking lot in round rock, texas, and they found his car in that hotel washing lot. they say the suspect drove away, eventually stopping in a ditch along i-35 and that's when police gave chase, they say the suspect detonated a bomb inside the vehicle and was killed, they say one officer was slightly injured in the blast, another

fired his weapon at the suspect, still unclear whether the blast killed the suspect or whether it may have been the officer's bullet. that's part of the investigation right now. this has been a situation that has terrorized texas's capital city for the last several weeks, five explosions that left two people dead, seriously injured four others, a sixth package was intercepted at at a fedex facility before it could explode. a key to this investigation was surveillance video that may have come from one of those fedex facilities where the suspect was reportedly seen. the breaking news right now, two law enforcement officials confirmed to nbc news within the past few minutes that the suspect has been identified as 24-year-old mark anthony conditt. an active investigation is under way to find out if his background and also whether he may have left any more bombs behind. police are urging people in this area to still be careful as this investigation continues. guys, back to you. >> all right. a little hard to hear you, but

so glad to hear that news this morning. thank you very much, gabe. it's 6:35 right now. we want to get back to our microclimate weather alert for you this morning. this is a live look at our radar showing where that rain is falling right now. >> an even stronger round of rain, believe it or not, is headed into the bay area later today and that is causing concerns in the santa cruz mountains. "today in the bay's" sharon katsuda is there live this morning as the fear of rock slides now are ramping up in the area. >> reporter: that's right, kris and marcus. you know, we're seeing a lot of traffic out here right now, but just a few minutes ago we saw stop and go traffic because we were told by chp there was an accident up a little ways near the red wood estates. you can see traffic is flowing smoothly. on the way here we saw a sign saying reduce speeds. definitely be careful here on highway 17. just last year we saw serious mudslides along highway 17, one even took out a colleague's live

van. fortunately he is okay. without vegetation to soak up the rain burn areas are vulnerable and there is a higher risk for mudslides. i spoke with a search and rescue expert who had responded to mud slide disasters and he says bay area residents who live near hillside should listen to the warnings. as part of the mudslides in the north bay you have the potential up there with heavy rains and now the bay area does not have the vegetation to hold the hillsides down, you have a higher potential for mudslides in that area. don't take it lightly. look what you have near your house and what the potential is and, again, be prepared. fires are one concern but what happens after in those mudslides could be a major concern. and you can see that there's vegetation here on the hillside at the summit so that's good news, that should keep that part of the hill back. on the way here we did see smaller rocks and debris along highway 17 and the law

enforcement are saying please report any flooded area or debris to keep a situation from getting worse. reporting live at highway 17, i'm sharon katsuda, "today in the bay.." >> sharon, thank you so much. we want to keep you up to date here on "today in the bay" as we get you prepared for the brunt of that storm barreling through the area. thursday we will be going on early starting at 4:00 a.m. as our crews will be out throughout the night gathering everything you need to know before tomorrow morning's commute. this show is great, you find out all kinds of news like coming on early tomorrow. looking at the activity right now, this is storm ranger data. kari will give you a better explanation but i wanted to show you what's going on above the roadways. the road weather index shows you the green where areas are the wettest. looking at east shore freeway but it's moving smoothly through richmond. the walnut creek interchange, highway 24 has been a rough drive all morning because of an

earlier crash which did clear. this crash also cleared coming down through san leandro, the crash at davis and all the debris and cleanup cleared. quick recovery because traffic is lighter throughout the bay, some colleges in finals, some on spring break. here is a wider look at the bay. i did want to show you farther south looking at 17 as sharon talked about off of highway 17 bear creek road just off of that freeway is talking about a tree down, so be careful, there is one tree down on bear creek road limiting access there. that is that quicker recovery 880 southbound with the head lights, very smooth right now. we doiing back to our normal commute lieu -- through oakland. it's not going to be over by the time the weekend gets here. i just had someone reach out on facebook and say, hey, we have this fundraiser on saturday, will it be clear? and the answer is no. here is a look at what we've got going on now for you as you step out the door.

in the north bay still some scattered showers also as mike showed across much of contra costa county. now, as we get a wider view, this is the reason why we are not going to be done with the rain just yet, this is a very large storm and it will continue to bring in more rounds of rain with the brunt of it moving in tonight. even by saturday we're still going to have lingering showers, highs in the upper 50s, off and on rain throughout the day. sunday that's your day to get outside. by then all of this will be done and our temperatures still staying on the cool side in the upper 50s to low 60s, but at least we don't have to worry about lugging around the umbrella. if you will be hitting the road maybe heading to paso robles, scattered showers in the forecast for friday and saturday, up to 59 degrees on saturday afternoon. it won't be a total washout. that's the take away thing here. even though we do have rain in the forecast it won't be raining all day long. even as you go to santa cruz there still will be a slight chance of rain early sunday morning but the trend will be for this storm to be winding

down. rain coming down in the sierra now but it changes over to snow. there will be lingering snowshowers in the forecast there throughout the weekend as colder air moves in. we will bring it back to san jose and go to the neighborhood of campbell coming up in three minutes. coming up next on "today in the bay," all of that rain that kari is talking about hitting the bay area is a major safety concern for parts of santa barbara county. the steps emergency officials are taking right now to prevent another disaster like the deadly montecito mudslides in january. in washington it's not rain, it's snow. the federal government is snowed under this morning.

right now it's 6:44. i'm tracking light rain moving through los gatos and also moving into campbell. downtown san jose still doesn't have any rain falling but the streets are wet. a live look with those cloudy skies as the sunrises and we will have waves of rain today. it will be off and on with cloudy skies in campbell but the rain will camp up as we go through 11:00 to 12:00, even 1:00 today and slightly warmer temperatures. we will break it down coming up in less than five minutes. the east bay showing a slower drive. 238 shows the biggest show down.

101 slow for the south bay. happening right now from this radar look you can see the atmospheric river moving through southern california here. look at all that rain there and the threat of more is causing just as much concern. it's triggering a new round of evacuations in those wildfire zones. tens of thousands of residents in areas including santa barbara, montecito, ojai are evacuated right now. the fear is so much rain in so little time could trigger mudslides like the ones back in january. evacuees leaving as they have to make an easy choice to go. >> the police said it's at your own risk if you stay. you only have literally five minutes to leave. grab your stuff and go. if you are going to stay here, write your social security number on yourself and it's on you. >> now, the woman you saw there she is actually blind and she says the evacuations are causing

her additional anxiety and the fears she may lose everything. she also says that a montecito resident she was fully aware of that danger in staying at her home. the plan to rename two palo alto middle schools is reportedly generating some big time opposition. the palo alto weekly reports that district leaders want to rename those two middle schools including jordan middle school one name under consideration is yamamoto a second generation japanese american from palo alto who died in world war ii. according to the weekly parents of chinese dissent have a problem with the yamamoto name. it is identical to an unrelated japanese admiral whose mystery is died to pearl harbor. the district is not backing down so far. 6:46. president trump under fire this morning for calling to congratulate vladimir putin. >> scott mcgrew, some of his advisers told him do not call. >> no, no, not call at all, but

president trump did call him and he congratulated him. here we see president putin this morning voting presumably for himself in sunday's election. president trump called him on tuesday and did not question the election or bring up the nerve agent attack. now, it could be that the white house is not interested in antagonizing a nuclear power, but then again, donald trump did make fun of kim jong-un calling him names, mad fun of democrat chuck schumer for that matter, called jeff flake jeff flaky and said john mccain is not a hero. republican senator john mccain is among those criticizing the president, saying an american president does not lead the free world by congratulating dictators on winning sham elections. channel 4 in great britain ran an exposé into cambridge analytica last night, it's second exposé. it showed the company's leaders bragging they could put

politicians into compromising situations and could influence elections. in our election president trump's win hinged on three states, pennsylvania, wisconsin and michigan. the so-called blue wall states. cambridge analytica's chief data scientist says the company was able to target voters in those states. he also said his company was behind the crooked hillary ads on facebook along with hundreds of other ads. now, sorting out what claims are factual, what actions are illegal and what was just distasteful is going to take time. what we do know is extremely personal facebook data belonging to millions of users was siphoned up by one of those quiz apps developed by this man, a data researcher who apparently delivered that data to that british firm which used the data to influence the american election. we examine what's going on in washington and these days around the world each morning on "today

coming across parts of the east bay into the delta. seeing a lot of rain on highway 4. as we get a look at san jose right now, just mostly cloudy. let's get dressed this morning. you do need a rain jacket that's probably better than an umbrella because that umbrella will get pulled all around as that woinds pick up today. also rain boots would be a good option as we see the rain off and on. we will have at times breaks in the rain but later on tonight is when the brunt of the storm hits us. we're going to go to santa clara now where vianey arana is now and been tracking what's ahead for us as we get heavier rain moving in. >> that's right, kari, i'm on the santa clara university campus. we've seen light drizzle here, but come tomorrow that's all going to change. let's take a look at some of the estimated rainfall totals that we can expect as we head into tomorrow morning. now, through today we've seen those light scattered showers so as far as rain totals not too imperative. less than a tenth of an inch for san jose, morgan hill. the higher elevations areas like

the north bay and santa cruz mountains are expected to see close to a half an inch or more by tonight at 11:00 p.m. to possibly an inch at red wood estates. if i take the timeline through tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. if you check out santa rosa over half an inch. red wood estates 2 two inches of rain. when you look at the coast, san francisco possibly more than a half inch of rain. if i take that timeline through 11:00 p.m. tomorrow, if i take you through 11:00 p.m. you look at ben lomond almost two and a half inches of rain and red wood estates over two and a half inches of rain. definitely the north bay and santa cruz mountains to see more of the heavier accumulations. areas like santa clara valley and urban areas are expected between a quarter to an inch and a half of rain through tomorrow night. just to give you a better idea, north bay and the santa cruz

mountains definitely look out for mudslides and possible debris that might slide on to the roads. kari, i will send it back to you. once again we are going to be getting the brunt of the storm moving in tonight and throughout tomorrow morning's commute. that's why we are coming on the air early tomorrow morning at 4:00 a.m. to make sure that you are prepared to get out the door and then we should start to see things tapering off by tomorrow afternoon into the evening. we won't be completely done with the rain and strong wind gusts. here is what to expect. take a look at what we will see over the next 24 hours. we will be tracking this through saturday. mike, you're tracking and you have a new crash on the roads in oakland. i saw the crash originally with the brachup over here and there are the flashing lights. north 880 at the high street off ramp. as folks got there there was a big stir blocking or slowing all lanes northbound. they have started moving once again. the off ramp is open, just expected by the one set of flashing lights and slowing there. that's northbound and southbound

welcome back. before you head out the door the time 6:56. here are the top stories on "today in the bay." breaking news out of austin, texas, where the suspect in several recent deadly bombings is dead. police say the suspect detonated a bomb inside his own car as a s.w.a.t. team was moving in just a little before 3:00 this morning. police identified him as 24-year-old mark anthony conditt. for hours officers cracked him before he eventually drove into a ditch and blew himself up. and a live look into milpitas at the elmwood jail. new details are coming out about the saj -- san jose state university sexual assault suspect. according to court records obtained by the mercury news that man is a chemical engineer student. he is accused of trying to sexual assault a man by putting him in a choke hold and reportedly sexual assaulting another man while that man, quote, blacked out drunk. a new video into our newsroom this morning showing a man refused to come down from a

two story roof for several hours overnight. that man is now in custody. it happened on berkshire drive near almaden expressway in san jose. it started around 11:00 last night and the standoff lasted about three hours. police say the person in the home had a restraining order against that suspect and called 911. and live pictures now from corte madera where it has been coming down all morning long. we did talk with some of the folks who are braving those conditions and they say they welcome the rain even though it comes with the threat of flooding. >> it's good. it's good. because we need the water. >> i've been working here 30 years. >> it is a regular spot. we have seen some flooding and ponding on highways and roadways and officials are warning people to slow down and take your time driving. and a live look from santa cruz mountains. people there are concerned about flooding and those mudslides. after seeing the serious damage

caused by mudslides after fires in southern california, the bay area is closely watching the hillsides here. without vegetation to soak up that rain, burned out areas are vulnerable and there is a higher risk for those mudslides. we're tracking that rain with storm ranger this morning. we've seen it off and on, but the main thing is that it's going to be a really slow go today. you do have a take it easy out there. we've seen the rain mostly across the north bay and east bay, but it does pick up in intensity and we will be getting the brunt of the storm tonight into early tomorrow morning. i can't imagine anybody has an easy drive today. >> no, but that's good, folks are focusing, because, remember, we have a slower drive and steady build, this is the san mateo bridge. the sun is coming up. you need to use those windshield wipers in places north of the golden gate bridge you have to keep the headlights on if the wipers are on study.
