storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar not picking up any rain. i did want to show you that there will be a chance of passing showers, especially this afternoon into the evening, but we should get through most of the day with dry weather. as we head into the evening commute and until about 10:00 or 11:00 tonight we will see some rain moving through. i will detail that and what is ahead for the weekend coming up. mike, chp still focused on the wind. >> they have been overnight. we have this sign you can't read it but it does talk about high winds across that san mateo bridge. there is the flat section. there is the high-rise and that's where you are more likely to get caught with a gust if you do get caught. san mateo bridge. the dumbarton bridge got those wind advisories yesterday and continues into today. for the bay bridge and out of the altamonte pass over there put back on this red sweep that carries storm ranger. things are much drier and calmer today. we will talk about the approach to the bay bridge which is looking great, but again, gusty

conditions possible across that bay bridge. back to you. thank you very much. we are following breaking news, a hostage situation in the south of france which is happening in treb which is seven miles from the city of carcason. one person is dead at this point. a man with a gun went into a supermarket and someone heard gunshots inside. french authorities say that man is holding hostages right now but at this point we don't know how many people are being held inside. crews are heading out to one pleasant hill neighborhood where a giant tree fellow top two cars and covered the front yard of a home. this happened after midnight near oak park boulevard. the family that lives there says that they are just glad that tree fell away from the house and missed power lines. the family also says they will now have to replace one of two cars. the homeowner says the recent weather may have softened the tree's roots. we will have a live report from

the scene during the 5:00 hour. growing anger in sacramento, boiling over right now. last night as the surrounding the deadly police shooting of an unarmed man. >> hundreds of people last night blocked access to golden 1 center where the sacramento kings game went on mostly without fans and the crowd. the crowd outside was protesting the shooting of 22-year-old stephon clark on sunday night. police say officers mistook his cellphone in his hand for a gun and fired 20 times killing him in a backyard. after the game the team's owner addressed those folks who did make it inside. >> we recognize that it's not just business as usual and we are going to work really hard to bring everybody together to make the world a better place starting with our own community. >> the team did promise to refund all unused tickets. the chief of police, meanwhile, is promising a continuing and

full investigation, including the controversy surrounding officers who muted their body cameras in the after math. thousands of students, parents, teachers and gun control advocates are expected to take to the streets from the bay area to washington, d.c. they are demanding an end to mass school shootings. officials tell us they are still investigating that threat, but at this point there is no evidence that the campus is at, quote, greater than normal risk. 4:36. new this morning for the second time this week live grenades have reportedly been found at a vacant home in san jose. grenades were first found monday prompting evacuations of nearby homes on gordon avenue near mckee road. the mercury news reports a bomb squad was back out there last night after the discovery of a new set of grenades. when our crew was out there on monday an estate sale dealer told us that that owner of the home discovered explosives in the basement. how they got there is still a mystery. developing right now, new york city firefighters are mourning one of their own. it's a man who was killed overnight in a fire where a movie is being filmed. that fire started in the basement of a building in harlem. it's the set of a film called "motherless brooklyn" directed by ed norton and starring bruce willis. the firefighters that died is a

15 year veteran with four children. he somehow got separated as the flames were spreading and was then found unconscious. he was just 37 years old. so young. coming up on "today in the bay," an early check of the markets after a wild day yesterday. president trump slapped new tariffs on chinese goods and china is responding in kind. and amazon has issued a patent for a particular kind of drone. we will show you what the user is capable of doing with that device that might amaze you. and plus honoring mr. rogerroger rogers.

rodgers live at cnbc global headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street is set to open lower this morning. stocks tanked yesterday after president trump proposed up to $60 billion in tariffs on chinese products. that's sparking fears of a trade war with a series of retaliatory moves from both sides. the markets had their worst day since early february, the dow briefly dipped into correction territory, that means it fell 10% from its most recent high. the selloff has extended to europe and asia today. japan falling 4% and china's markets down 3%. the dow closing down 724 points to 23,957, the nasdaq dropping to, 166.

amazon has been issued a patent for a drone that can interpret gestures and voice commands. reports say the device would be outfitted with cameras and sensors that could recognize gestures such as a person waving it towards them or shoeing it away. coming soon to a church service near you, a virtual collection plate. the church of england plans to launch a high tech collection plate across the country this year that accepts mobile payments such as apple pay. it can also be used for collecting fees for weddings, christenings and other events. the church has been looking at who you to update how parishioners can make donations which total more than $800 million a year in a cashless society. back over to you. >> i think it's a great idea. when you pass the collection down the pews sometimes you realize you don't have cash and feel so terrible. >> i've been there many times. >> thank you, kate. have a good friday. this week we told you that

mr. rogers if he were alive he would have turned 90. we also told you about this new forever stamp that is coming out in his honor. mr. rogers is here on this stamp smiling with his trademark cardigan and king friday. remember him? the stamp officially comes out today. more dryness than yesterday. this is a live look out our window over the transamerica building in san francisco and it's looking pretty clear. this time yesterday the lens was all soggy and all kind of sloppy. >> i like this one better. so happening tonight at levi stadium in santa clara, soccer. yeah, mexico taking on iceland. iceland. now, this is video from both teams practicing. this is just a friendly game, though. both those teams are heading to russia this summer for the feve at that world cup. 60,000 tickets have been sold for tonight's game at levi's. organizers are expecting a sellout crowd of more than 70,000. the game starts at 7:00 tonight. i bet we will see some traffic impact before and after the game for sure. >> always remember iceland is green and green land is icy. >> but it's going to be chilly today but we will have some

sunshine and it starts out much cooler this morning. you can feel the difference as you head out the door. we mostly have more 30s and low 40s to start out this friday morning as the seven-day forecast comes up at the bottom of the screen you can check that out while i talk about today. up to 58 degrees in san jose, 60 cupertino and as we move toward the east bay mostly some upper 50s, antioch 59 degrees and 57 in san mateo. san francisco 55 degrees and the mission district and 56 degrees in novato. a lot of sunshine if you are planning to get out today. i've really been missing out on going hiking. you can do that this afternoon. at noon we will be at 53 degrees, chilly with breezy winds and more clouds moving in by 3:00. getting dressed this morning you do need something nice and warm to wear. talking about the need maybe for a cardigan but a coat good option, too, and also some pants that will keep you away from those breezy winds that will be kicking up later on today. we do still have unsettled

weather, this area of low pressure will dip its bay closing into the bay area tonight with a round of rain. by 10:30 this morning it does show that there could be some spotty showers in the north bay, but the rest of the bay area does stay dry until later on this afternoon into the evening when there will be some quick passing showers moving through, very chilly temperatures that could also bring in some snow for mt. hamilton, then we will see quick waves of rain moving through for tomorrow and sunday as well. we are still not in the clear for sunday so i do have to include that in the forecast. a chance of showers. temperatures will be on the cool side, only reaching into the low 50s, but look at next week, 70 degrees and sunny on wednesday. mike, you were talking about two cats, not los gatos the city. most of the roadways very nice, easy drive, the conditions different than yesterday.

here in san jose one cat was reported sitting at the center divide looking at traffic go by. we're concerned for the cat but i think it will be okay. farther south over by the cats coming down 17 over on the shoulder a tanker truck which basically broke down and it's on the shoulder but just notes its right by the cats heading down through los gatos. 17 moves nicely in towards santa cruz without any delay. coming up through the south county 101 has no problems, gilroy, san ma tin, morgan hill an easy throw there for the bay shore freeway. 580 out of the altamonte be careful chp did talk about gusty winds at times as you travel through the wind farms over by the wind mills. i guess they are placed in the right spot. the north bay no delays, highway 37 at speed heading in toward novato. back to you. thank you very much. dramatic video to show you this morning showing this car stuck in the floodwaters in southern california and the driver is

still inside. thank goodness for good mare tans. this happened in santa clarita yesterday. you can see a stranger rushing into action to save that person trapped inside. he breaks the rear window with a rock, frees the driver. >> coming across the wash and he didn't think it was that deep and away he went. the next thing you thought he was dying. >> you don't know how deep it is. the victim says he swallowed a lot of water and could have died if someone had not come to save him. no one was hurt. freak accident or an act of terrorism. that's what the fbi is trying to figure out about a crash at travis air force base. sources tell nbc news that that driver made it past the main gate at the base wednesday night before crashing. the driver died and it's believed that it is when that propane tank in the car blew up. investigators were on the scene all day yesterday trying to piece together that mystery. no someone else was near or at

most people died of suffocation or from jumping to safety from high floors and it did not work. officials say that blaze started in the basement parking area and it took more than 200 firefighters more than an hour to get it under control. plus a u.s. war ship sales near disputed islands in the south china see. it came within 12 kilometers of the artificial islands built by china. china has territorial disputes with its neighbors over that area. students didn )t let a ston

after a competition in utah someone stole their robot. it was found abandoned and returned to them. now the team has fixed their robot and is headed to idaho next week for another contest. >> i'm so glad. that made me really mad. >> i'm glad they did. so what do you do when you put ten high school juniors and senior boys in one room with music and a chorus of girls. >> you get a lot of money for charity and some pretty crazy foot loose action. check it out. okay. what's going on here? >> they have some moves. some of them are good. the boys from pleasanton's al have a do remember valley high school have contestants in a beauty pageant. they are raising money for the george mark children's house in san leandro. it is a loving space for terminally ill children and their families. here is one of the contestants taking part in the fundraiser.

for here in the bay area as well. first a live look outside in san francisco. ahead of what's expected to be a beautiful friday. and we're starting the morning out a lot different than yesterday, so i think we are on a good note. >> i know. this time yesterday we couldn't see really much from our cameras and everybody was soggy. everybody is cheerful today. >> i think so, but it's a little cool as you get ready to step out the door. we are going to have some cooler weather today now that that cold front has dropped in, but that also means that we will have a chance of some rain as we go into the afternoon. it's still fairly unstable as far as our sats fear is concerned and our temperatures now in the low 40s, 35 degrees now in the north bay as we get a look out the window in san francisco and the east bay 40 degrees now. wanted to talk about those rain chances mostly in the north bay, through the afternoon, and then as we go into the evening that could be sweeping all across the bay area. so more on that timeline coming up in just a few minutes. mike, the commute
