for out of the altamonte, tip ral for west 580 off 205. the approach to the bay bridge your travel times through the maze show an easy drive. at the limit as you approach the bay bridge. at the bay bridge we have these cash lanes, it looks like we may have had all those cash lanes open up over the last couple minutes on both sides of the fast track lanes. back to you. we start with breaking news this half hour. a major development overnight regarding adult film actress stormy daniels' legal case against president trump. could the president have to testify under oath? early this morning daniels' attorney released the text of this court filing, it seeks to depose president trump and his lawyer michael cohen. daniels' attorney filed the motion yesterday in california's central district court. the attorney likely wants to ask the president and cohen about so-called hush money that daniels received right before election day in 2016. the president denies having an affair with daniels which she says began in 2006.

continuing coverage now, things are finally getting back to normal this morning at oakland international airport. this after a frightening crash last night. an suv jumped the curb at terminal 1 injuring four people. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell is live there now with what led up to that accident. bob, a lot of folks feared for their lives, we didn't know what this was going to be. >> reporter: kris and marcus, t the alameda county sheriff's office has emphasized what happened here last night was not a terrorist attack, rather than accident that ended up with a driver being taken away in handcuffs. you take a look at the video, this happened around 6:00 last night. the 54-year-old driver of that maroon suv collided with another vehicle in front of terminal 1, four people were hurt including two pedestrians who were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, two other people refused treatment including one who was hit by flying luggage. the sheriff's office hasn't

released the name of the driver but did arrest this person for felony reckless driving that resulted in an injury and for driving without a license. >> his foot at some point got stuck on the accelerator and that he was not very familiar with operating a motor vehicle. >> reporter: no flights were canceled, but we know of some passengers who missed their flights because the roads into the airport were shut down for a couple of hours. as you can see in this video from nbc bay area sky ranger a number of passengers hopped out of their rides and hooved it into the terminals with their luggage. you may also notice the tremendous presence by law enforcement at first deputies did not know what kind of situation they were dealing with, which explains the initial swift and overwhelming response. again, to reiterate, deputies say that this was an accident, not an attack. reports live here at oakland international, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> it still must have been terrifying. thank you, bob. mourners today will attend a wake for a sacramento man shot

and killed by police. officers say they believed stephon clark was holding a gun but it was only a cellphone. protests got heated last night, both inside and outside a city council meeting. council members hoped to hold an open discussion on the shooting but that was postponed when protesters took over. the brother of stephon clark was there calling for justice. >> stop. stop. stop. stop, y'all. stop, please. my brother just got shot. >> i'm dedicated to making sure that we gather all the facts, conduct a thorough investigation and promise we will continue to be transparent throughout the process. >> right there you were just hearing the chief of police there letting the community know that that investigation will continue and it will be thorough. angry teachers plan to attend fremont unified's board meeting tonight to call for a new contract agreement. talks fan more than a year ago and the union says both sides are at a standstill. union leaders say current wages

are inadequate for silicon valley. also at tonight's meeting board members will discuss a controversial proposed sex ed program. some parents say they don't agree with the series of classes scheduled to begin next month. the district calls those classes essential. also happening today san francisco firefighting strategies will be the focus of a planned fire commission meeting. this comes following two recent controversies over how crews responded to a fire in north beach. supervisor aaron peskin initially criticized how the firefighters attacked the flames and did so at the scene of the fire, though he has since apologized. at 5:05 right now, happening today, ac transit wants to hear from commuters before they roll out the new transbay tomorrow project. "today in the bay's" pete suratos is live in san francisco with what this project is about and, pete, how could this impact commuters? >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus. it could impact some of the more than, i believe, 170,000 folks that use ac transit,

specifically in the east bay, because the board of directors is proposing a potential change that we could see as early as august of this year, but riders will get two chances today, there will be a meeting here in san francisco and another one in oakland later today, we will get to that in a moment. eventually ac transit is going to move into that big transbay transit center. you guys are looking at some of the double-decker buses that will be launching service out of that area to accommodate more passengers. now, as for today's meetings, it's going to focus on proposed line changes with ac transit, mostly affecting those using the ac transit in the east bay. i want to show you guys a few of the lines that would be affected or at least they are under consideration for changes. you've got line f in berkeley, line l and la in the richmond area and line e which affects the san leandro and oakland areas. some of those changes will deal with frequency as well as travel times for those bus lines. we will show you the times for those meetings that will take

place today. there will be two where you can weigh in on the changes. there will be one at 12:00 p.m. at the golden gate university in room 5200 on mission street in san francisco and then later tonight at 6:00 p.m. over at the ac transit general offices there's going to be another meeting where you can weigh in over on 1600 franklin street. at that point the board will get input from folks at both meetings and they are looking to make a final decision on some of those changes by next month. we're live in san francisco, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, pete. 5:07 now. new this morning we are getting a first look at the long awaited plans to revamp the old valco mall in cupertino. overnight we looked up details of the plan with that developer and the proposed vallco town center includes more than 2,400 housing units half of which meet the affordable mark, the plan also calls for keeping an ice rink, a bowling alley, bringing back the movie theater that closed last week and adding office space.

happening tonight former first lady michelle obama will be at oracle arena. a live look at it right now. she will be part of a conversation that starts at 8:00, mrs. obama is expected to talk about her time at the white house. she will also inspire young people as well as girls to seek higher education. some of those tickets are still available for tonight's event. i posted a link on my twitter feed, that's @marcusnbc. and right now at 5:08 we begin with cool temperatures, taking a live look outside at san francisco, all clear skies and you can see those high clouds filtering the moonlight coming through right now. i wanted to talk about our highs for today and also our records because in some spots we will be very close, but i think in the north bay we could set some new records. the forecast for santa rosa is 83 and the record is 82. napa 81 degrees with a record of 78 degrees and other areas once again will be very close as we enter into some very warm temperatures for this time of

year. i think more records could fall tomorrow as our temperatures warm up several more degrees from here. we will talk about that in just a few minutes. now, as we head over to mike, you now have a crash on the blotter. the chp blotter, the reports there, we have one crash, only one crash and that's great news for most of you, the rest of your drive, look at these speed sensors, we give you a look at the longer commute over here across the antioch bridge, rio vista in toward the area no problem. a crash westbound highway 4 your commute direction at hillcrest avenue. it sounds like we have at most one lane affected. light traffic gets by quickly but this person reported spinning out and getting hit by another car. we have a possible hit and run and we don't know why that car spun out. i will let you know if there's any problems as far as anything on the roadway there. easier drive but slower out of the longer commute out of the tracy area and altamonte. typical there, guys. coming up next on "today in the bay," saying no to cosmo,

we're halfway right through the week right now at 5:12. if you are like me you still need to drive through the car wash. today is a good day to do it. we have a lot of sunshine in the forecast. campbell mid 50s throughout the

morning and it quickly warms up. we will be even warmer than yesterday, mid 70s for this afternoon. normally we are at about 67 degrees. our well above normal temperatures continue into the next few days. we will talk about that and the weekend coming up in less than five minutes. and great travel times as you would imagine. the peninsula no surprises. same thing for the east bay, the surprise is no surprises right here as you come over toward the maze. and good morning to you. you know, it seems like just yesterday i was telling you about the third biggest one day stock rally in history. in fact, that was just a day ago. now we are looking for more red arrows on the open this morning after markets plunged on tuesday. big story is not the dow, it's the nasdaq. an enormous loss as investors run from tech stocks. now, just two of them here invidia makes the chips that run automated cars down 7%, tesla stock just crushed.

there is a lot going on there. obviously you have that terrible fire ball crash on 101, the ntsb investigating whether that tesla was on autopilot at the time and whether the crash barriers were properly set up along the highway. then several ratings agencies once again said they were worried about tesla's debt and its ability to build the model 3. frankly, these are things i have been telling you for more than a year. brand-new this morning facebook says it will let you change your privacy settings on your phone, something you normally had to go to the web to do and the company says mark zuckerberg is willing to testify before congress, though nobody set a date. now, we've been talking for a while about what the cambridge analytica scandal has done to facebook stock. take a look at this. this is the high just a couple days ago. all the way down, here is the scandal, to today. this area in here represents tens of billions of dollars worth of loss of value in market cap. there is basically a starbucks

worth of value right here. facebook has lost more value in this scandal than starbucks is worth. now, the data scientist who blew the whistle on all of this testified before a committee in parliament yesterday. remember cambridge analytica is british from cambridge, obviously. christopher wylie says that -- he is the pink haired guy -- says cambridge analytica harvested the personal information of 50 million facebook users and used that material in the trump campaign. there are also new allegations a scientist from palo alto based palatneer made that happen. they told the "new york times" they are investigating. it is run by peter keel an early facebook investor, member of the board on facebook as well and was active with the trump campaign as well. we are teasing that one out trying to figure out where that one goes, but this story continues to go. >> thank you for putting it in perspective of how much value facebook has lost. >> tremendous. >> that is a whole lot of money.

>> a whole starbucks. grande. walmart shoppers you may have noticed a missing magazine. the retail giant is pulling cosmo from its checkout lines. walmart tells nbc that this is, quote, primarily a business decision and says that it will still carry cosmo but it will be elsewhere in the store. new this morning we're hearing from one advocacy group touting that this is a victory against sexual exploitation. >> so many people are constantly bombarded with this hyper sexualized and objectifying material and we think that consumers should have a choice and they should be able to avoid it if they want to. >> the "today" show has a longer look at that change, plus new reaction coming up at 7:00 a.m. time now is 5:16. i think it's safe to say that st mo of us have been late for something, whether it's work, class, and sometimes if you're confronted you may try to dance around the reason. >> literally dance. one teacher has an answer for

that. ♪ >> it's a college class. that florida college professor makes his students dance in front of the entire class and we're kind of hoping this guy is never late again. looking at new video going viral of the punishment students get for being tardy is to an american literature class. this is at a college in florida we're told no matter the moves it will not affect your grade, but we want to know what do you think? is this an appropriate punishment? i did post a poll on twitter so go and vote now. is it appropriate? is it public humiliation or would you have been the one dancing at the front of the class? >> i got to the set a little bit late this morning -- >> you danced in? >> i don't think so. i think most people would be like, okay, i'll dance. >> i know i would.

>> then, you know, it's just like all in good fun. they are adults, so, hey -- >> they're paying to be there. they should be on time. >> all right. so let me get you out the door on time this morning and give you the weather forecast before you head out. we're going to have a warm day even though it starts out cool make sure you're prepared for a cool morning and a very warm afternoon. here is a look at where we begin in the tri-valley on the right side of the screen looking live from sunol, it's 45 degrees. 50 degrees in the peninsula and 52 in the south bay. it's 50 right now in san francisco and the north bay at 46. seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen so don't waste your time while i'm talking about where we're headed for today. in the south bay our highs in milpitas up to 75 degrees and 80 degrees in danville, in oakland today look for a high of 72, it's going to be really nice, half-moon bay 67 and 75 degrees in san mateo. in the mission district looking for a high of 70 today and some lower 8 09s in the north bay.

santa rosa 83 degrees, so maybe you're making plans to head to the beach if you are out on spring break, it's going fairly cool, looking at low 50s throughout the morning but by noontime 64 degrees and we will hold those temperatures steady in the mid to upper 60s there and heading up some of the hiking trails in the north bay, it's going to be perfect. i think abo that. that's where we will be for noon. sunshine continues to warm up our temperatures and we will be in the upper 70s later today. if you're going to the sierra let's talk about this snow pack because we are still really lacking there and we're done with the snow for now. the central sierra is at about 65% of normal after getting up to 18 feet of snow over the past several weeks. squaw valley is looking good, some mid 50s and we will talk about that weekend forecast in about 20 minutes. we will take a look at our seven-day forecast now for san francisco, looking good easter sunday, low 60s. for the inland areas 73 degrees

and slightly cooler next week. mike is saying you have a great drive right now. that's a pleasure to report that, kari. we're making speed limit over here the green shows you everywhere we are close to the limit and that is great flow. almost all over the bay except for out of the altamonte pass as we always see almost anytime of the day. no slowing 101 north out of gilroy, morgan hill a smooth drive toward silicon valley, same thing highway 17 from and to the santa cruz side. san jose shows you we do have traffic out there, it's not completely limit but at the limit. 101 north of the 680/280 interchange. we have one crash we are tracking highway 4 at hillcrest, this is in antioch, your commute direction. we do have everything over on the shoulder. reports that this car was hit by another, so there is a hit and run aspect to this whole thing and we are tracking the details. again, no slowing and no major injuries. a nice drive all the way, a little slowing through bay point for highway 4 so the commute has

it is 5:24. happening today crews will begin dismantling the growing memorial around marjory stoneman douglas high school in florida today. this comes two days after people were accused of stealing from that memorial. a group of volunteers will store the items in a temperature controlled fort for now, then eventually the memorial listen transported to a local university until the city comes up with a permanent home. a gunman killed 17 people on february 14th. new overnight a scary night for cal tech students in pasadena. hazardous materials crews responded to a fire in a campus

laboratory there. the school says the fire was contained to one lab and that crews were able to put it out quickly but the situation did prompt first responders to evacuate that entire building. no one was hurt. this morning we're learning how a san francisco uber driver managed to get stuck on stairs as you see right here near church and market earlier this week. that driver is saying he followed directions from google maps and that led him to a precarious situation. the 74-year-old driver says he had to cut through a parking lot then google maps appeared to guide him right to those steps. >> it is kind of confusion where to go, left or right, because it looks like an exit to go the left turn. a miscalculation i suppose. >> that driver goes on to tell us that his car repairs will cost a couple thousand dollars. google says that it's looking into the incident.

>> i wonder if he got into the walking directions, do you know how you can switch from driving directions to transit to walking. >> maybe he didn't know about that. i never thought about that. new for you this morning making communion more inclusive. >> a lot of folks prepare to go to church for easter sunday and the vatican says there is no such thing as completely gluten communion. a new york priest says most people with gluten issues can tolerate a low gluten alternative. >> on the alter you would have the regular host in a dish but then you would have a smaller one or a little length called a picks where you would have those low gluten hosts as well. most parishes, i think, do that. >> they don't want anyone to feel discouraged from taking part. i've been at communion where people have not taken the wine but still participated in the

7:00 this morning as you walk to school and by recess we are in the 60s. so it's going to be a beautiful afternoon with highs today reaching the low 70s, low 80s for the inland areas and the coast in the upper 60s. we will talk about the weekend coming up, but mike is saying so far it's pretty quiet on the roadways. >> it is, but we're getting more cars out there. there's traffic out there, just not a lot of incidents. this one just popped up in the last few seconds, looks like it's around is a little over there for west 580. that would be your commute direction so we will check with chp. getting toward the bay bridge it's a smooth drive. we have this backup because the metering lights are on right on schedule at the toll plaza. nothing unusual about that. the drive there for your freeways feeding through the maze just one minute longer to for highway 4 down to the bay bridge for the east shore freeway and that's standard right now. back to you. it is 5 # 1:00. emotions continue to run very high in sacramento where police shot and killed an unarmed black man. the city council was supposed to talk about this issue last

night, but take a look at what happened instead. that was outside of the chambers but inside the chambers dozens of people voiced their outrage over that police shooting of stephon clark. the meeting was eventually shut down all together. >> "today in the bay's" joe fryer is live in sacramento ahead of what could be another day of protests. joe? >> reporter: that's right, marcus and kris. it was an emotional evening, another emotional evening here in sacramento. last night the city council had basically set aside the whole evening for a special meeting just to discuss the shooting death of stephon clark. hundreds attended filling the council chambers, we're told nearly 300 people had signed up to speak but on a couple of occasions things got to tense the mayor actually had to call for a recess to try to calm things down. in fact, the meeting which was supposed to last about six hours ended up lasting only about three and a half hours before it was called off.

then during that meeting some protesters who couldn't get inside actually moved to the sacramento kings arena for the second time in a week protesters blocked the entrance to the arena which kept many fans from getting inside. now, clark was shot and killed last week by two officers who say they thought he had a gun, but it was actually a cellphone. we sat down yesterday with clark's grandmother, take a listen to what she had to say. >> and why would you empty 20 bullets on an unarmed man? why would you do that? >> do you want to see charges in this case? >> yes. yes. >> now, after the investigation it is the county district attorney who will ultimately determine if the two police officers involved should be charged, but yesterday california's department of justice announced that it is also joining this investigation and will conduct an independent review. this doesn't mean the state is taking over the investigation, but it will offer an independent

eye into this case. some people hope that will calm things down and lead to more accountability, but not everyone is convinced that that is going to be the answer to try to calm things down here in sacramento. marcus and kris? >> thank you very much, joe. we will continue to watch joe's full report that's coming up right after "today in the bay" on the "today" show. >> it is 5:34 right now. happening today school is back in session this morning at cupertino high school after a chaotic day on campus. snapchat video shows students running for their lives yesterday after that school got a threatening robocall. "today in the bay's" roz plater is live in cupertino with those frightening moments and where the threat reportedly came from. this is not what we like to see in our schools, roz. it must have been terrifying. >> reporter: it had been to be terrifying. this is an emergency evacuation during their lunch hour. they're certainly hoping to get things back to normal today. parents and teachers told us it was both frustrating and frightening at the same time.

take a look at this snapchat video showing the chaos as those students were fleeing the school after that school got a robocall threat about 1:00 in the afternoon. students were told to get off campus as quickly as they could, some ran to nearby businesses for shelter and to their parents to pick them t was a little bit. you wouldn't expect something like this this to happen in the middle of the day. >> saw a bunch of cops. i was furious, like this has got to stop. >> deputies searched the campus but found no credible threat and gave the all clear about an hour and a half later. turns out a deputies say the robocall came from a number that has been traced to similar threats at schools across the country. this was also the second time around for students at this school. they had to be emergency -- had an emergency evacuation last month after a bomb threat so something they certainly do not want to get used to and hopefully getting pack to normal for today.

for now we're live in cupertino, i'm roz plater, "today in the bay." >> certainly a scary situation there, roz. thank you so much. happening today closing arguments are expected to quinn begin in the trial for the which had bow of the pulse nightclub shooter. noor salman is accused of aiding and abetting her husband omar mateen. he was behind the terror attack at the orlando nightclub in june of 2016. the defense rested yesterday and prosecutors didn't call any rebuttal witnesses. prosecutors argued salman knew her husband was buying rounds of ammunition and she knew about his plan to open fire inside the nightclub. mateen killed 49 people in that attack. happening today the family of a man who was shot and killed by police last month will demand body camera video of the incident be released. on february 13 vallejo police shot and killed ra nell foster. investigators say he was riding his back in an unsafe manner and when they tried to stop him he took off. he died during an altercation with officers and police call

that self defense. civil rights attorney john burris has now taken on the case, he plans to hold a news conference this afternoon. happening today some oakland teachers say that they will protest at several schools, this he include joaquin elementary, sequoia elementary and oakland technical high school. the teachers union is calling for more paid planning time, higher salaries and smaller class sizes. authorities are trying to solve a recent crime hitting the heart of east bay boys and girls clubs. someone broke into the administrative offices in el sobrante last week and store a storage unit with $20,000 worth of commuters and other equipment. the nonprofit is insured but the equipment serves young people who don't have the resources or access to computers at home or elsewhere. 5:37 now, new this morning file this photo under carpool cheats. that doesn't look like a real person, does it? south bay chp officers tweeted

this yesterday. they say one driver creatively tried to zip through the carpool lane on 680 until officers caught up with him. the chp also joked that if the driver expects his passenger to split the ticket, he may be waiting a while. #mannequinmanipulation. mike, you've seen it all. >> it's out there, but instead of showing when the carpoolers have a mannequin in the car, show the person who was trying to get away with it, then maybe -- >> yeah, right? a little carpool shaming. over here we're looking at san jose as well, 101 no problems. with he did have a truck in the middle point until just seconds ago. no more distraction right here. this slowing, though, is because we typically see the burst of traffic coming up 101 north of the 680 and 280 interchange or change in the freeway there. as we zoom out most of the bay looks really good, the crash west 580 over there around el charro and reportedly on the right hand shoulder we see a

five minutes. and a little slower across the bridges of course the bay bridge has the backup at the toll plaza, but the span moves well. here is your slowing through the tri-valley, pretty mild but things are starting to slow. there is a crash on 580 through livermore. it is 5:44 right now. this is new video showing a helicopter rescue in the north bay. a 72-year-old man slipped and fell hurting his leg while hiking the mt. st. helena strtr. the rescuers lowered down a basket to bring him up to the helicopter. chp says the man will fully recover but probably won't forget that hike for a while. something smelly to talk about. foul here, that's the only way to describe last night's early end to the game at dodgers game. a pool of foul smelly water started forming in the fifth inning, it turned out to be a broken sewer pipe so the game

san leandro a little slower. east bay drive times reflect that heading out of the bay bridge and we do have the backup at the toll plaza. a new tool that firefighters see through the smoke. first happening now more than 30 suspected undocumented immigrants are being detained in andrew ross sorkin. they were caught during an i.c.e. raid in south phoenix on tuesday. federal agents say they were responding to a call about suspected human smuggling activity at that home. as we know there have been several raids across the country including here in the bay area as well. and the housing market isn't slowing down, weekly mortgage applications are up nearly 5% from last week. even as interest rates are going up. experts say home buyers are not as concerned with those interest rates. we have more news coming up after the break, it is 5:52. taking a live look outside from

ways. >> senior investigative report were vicky nguyen found that thousands of drivers are being fined for something they didn't do. >> reporter: good morning. our investigation began with a tip from a father and son who both received tickets for using the fast track express lanes in the east bay, both had their tickets overturned because they weren't at fault. there was photo evidence. in one case the cameras read the license plate incorrectly in the other the car was next to the express lane not in it. we learned they are far from alone. since january of 2017 the agency in charge of sending out express lane violations has sent out more than 58,000 bills that were wrong. that adds up to $1.4 million in fines that were later dismissed. a spokesman for the bay area toll authority says the technology is getting better, which should cut down on the errors, but you should check your fast track statement often to make sure you are not being charged for using the express lanes when you aren't and if you
