hey, guess what, it is finally friday. we are looking live at a gorgeous picture of the bay bridge on this friday morning. clear as a bell. the temperatures, though, they're changing just a little bit. thanks so much for joining us, i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. talking about those temperatures right now, going outside today starting out a little cool. >> not too bad, though. >> a little bit of a repeat of yesterday. it's still going to start out cool, it's going to be nice and sunny and then it warms up a lot for the afternoon. as we get a live look outside in san jose we once again see all the clear skies and no issues with fog and we will be in the mid 50s and then by early afternoon we are already starting out in the mid 70s there. i wanted to show you all of our

high temperatures for today, up to 84 in the south bay, 85 in the tri-valley and the north bay up to 81 degrees. we will take a look at all of the records that may be set today and what's ahead for the weekend. mike, you're tracking one crash already in oakland. excellent look ahead, those temperatures look great for today. over here we are expecting lighter flow of traffic and we do see that holding up but it's only 4:31 on friday. we do have this crash that popped on to the grid eastbound 580 away from the bay bridge at highway 24. you might have a quick traffic break over the next couple minutes because it sounds like there is debris and maybe a vehicle that's having trouble getting out of the lanes. i will let you know if it lasts longer that an couple minutes or if we see any significant delays. none so far. palo alto 101 there is the ikea parking lot over near university, look how clear it is. we're hoping it stays that way but probably not all morning. breaking news to tell you about this morning. russian authorities announced that we've tested a new

intercontinental ballistic missile. here is video of that launch. the 22 second clip -- there we go. taking off of the ground there. this was successful in the fire for the second time. we are going to have more on this coming up in the next half hour of a live report from washington. coming up later this morning on the "today" show, savannah guthrie will sit down for an exclusive interview with russian ambassador to the united states. that's coming up on the "today" show which begins right after "today in the bay" at 7:00. it is 4:32. bullets were flying inside a san francisco barber shop, for the first time we're seeing police body camera video of that shootout in san francisco that left a suspect dead and an officer injured. >> we have to warn you that some people may kind this video disturbing. you may recall the shooting happened last week. this video was shown for the first time last night at a town hall meeting. here is "today in the bay" jean

elle with more. >> reporter: police body camera video captures the chaotic moments when gunshots are exchanged inside the busy amazon barber shop last week. at an emotional meeting police explained what happened. they say when officers walked in 21-year-old jehad eid pulled his gun and fired nine shots. officers filed 26 killing eid. five others who were shot including one officer survived. >> we do not have any hatred or remorse towards the sfpd or the officers on the scene. >> an eid family spokesperson apologized but another said they're angry. >> and the eid family does not stand united in apologizing to the officers for what took place. >> police say eid's family called 911 saying he flashed a gun outside their home and tried to break into the garage. he was then spotted at the barber shop. as emotional family members listened tensions boiled over. >> calm down. >> when things calmed down

barber doc conway said the violence shook him. >> as you can see, i'm not just physically hurt, i'm mentally hurt. we all are. >> conway was shot in the hip. another barber who was shot in the foot watched as his coworker told police they believe officers could have approached eid differently. there were kids in a back room when bullets started to fly. >> do we think it should be handled different? yeah, we do. i'm saying we do think it could have been handled a lot different. but the fact is that it wasn't. do you know what i'm saying? i forgave jehad. >> the chief said he will take the feedback into consideration while the investigation continues. jean elle, "today in the bay." that is a story you will only see on nbc bay area. a late night fast food run takes a frightening and violent turn. san jose police are looking for a man who chased after a car load of young women and then opened fire on them. one of those passengers was hit

and it started all around 2:00 in the morning on wednesday at a jack in the box restaurant on monterey road in san jose. one of the victims who did not want to be identified says she was driving her white toyota when this all happened. >> he got in the drive through, i got behind him, you know, nothing -- no words were exchanged, nothing, just ordering food. >> her friend was shot in the arm but that friend is expected to be okay. police don't yet have a description of the suspect. a follow-up for you, students and teachers in one north bay school district will reportedly receive new mandatory training in the wake of recent sexual harassment claims. teachers in the tammel pies union high school district went public with claims of harassment made by male students. the ij reports new comprehensive training will begin next month. a new tribute today for san francisco mayor ed lee who died suddenly last year. the golden state warriors will help to dedicate a new

basketball court in san francisco's chinatown. the edwin m. lee court will open at the salvation army community center on powell street near the broadway tunnel. lee died suddenly last december from a heart attack. happening tonight, a live look at the coliseum. that's where the oakland a's will be back at it again against the los angeles angels of anaheim. one day after a thrilling opener. the a's won in the 11th inning as marcus siemian knocked in boog powell for the third. the a's were down 4-0. tonight's game starts at 7:00 and that includes a pregame ceremony for the 50th anniversary team. the first team that played in oakland. the nail biter seemed to rule opening day around baseball. >> that included the giants against their rival dodgers. the angels opened in l.a. if you thought the recent incidents would cause panic, you might be wrong. joe panic scored one home of the game with a home run after

what he loved. this morning - we )re learning more about the well, his family says he died doing what he loved. this morning we're learning more about the driver killed in a crash at the sonoma raceway this week. >> he was 75 years old, james rambo of napa and he died wednesday when his 1976 ford pinto slammed into a wall during wednesday night drag. his son said something went wrong just after the finish line. racers can go more than 100 miles per hour on that rank. it is a legally sanctioned thing. a investigators have searched the washington state family of the family of weight, two mothers and their six adopted children are all

presumed dead, this comes after their suv plunged off of a cliff earlier this week. social media posts paint a perfect picture of that family but the neighbors recently called child protective services. >> then devonte coming over here and telling us that, you know, he's being starved to death. >> as for what led to that crash there are no skid marks and very few clues at the scene. investigators are working to rephrase the family's movements. now to a tesla recall and this is a big one. the bay area car maker a recalling 123,000 model s sedans built before april of 2016. the problem is a bolt that could corrode and cause the steering to fail, the power steering. owners are being notified via e-mail. there have been no crashes or injuries reported as a result of this. coming up on "today in the bay" of course friday makes you smile, but we have a forecast to match that. kari hall has been monitoring it. >> it's going to be beautiful this weekend. let's take a live look outside in palo alto.

livermore, morgan hill, 49 degrees and 54 now in san jose. it's 56 in oakland and in san francisco our highs today will be in the low 8 09s in santa rosa, 78 degrees in napa and 72 degrees in san francisco and up to 84 degrees in san jose. 85 in livermore and the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen as we talk about our records and some more records may be set today. a lot of them were set especially in the north bay for yesterday afternoon. san jose i think will set a new record high today. also we are watching those numbers in mountain view that may tie the record and also in concord. now, as you're starting out this morning getting dressed you do need the summer gear, it's time to break it out as we still have some very warm weather. it's cold this morning so you might need a light jacket and also some short sleeves, but it's also a great day to make it a beach day if you can. also the sunglasses. so this being one of the warmer days of the week, it does cool

down for the weekend. if you're planning to head out there to the game tonight for the a's game, it's going to be in the low 70s as you're tailgating heading to the game, 68 degrees at first pitch and later on tonight make sure you have on a nice warm jacket. temperatures drop off quickly. heading to napa this weekend it will be 81 degrees today, a little cooler for the rest of the weekend and we keep the sunshine, looking good on easter sunday. for san francisco we will be at 66 degrees and a lot of sunshine in the forecast, more clouds on wednesday. hey, check that out, we will have some rain moving back in by next thursday. we will be tracking that for the end of next week. meantime we still do have several more days of warm and sunny weather. mike, now you have a traffic alert? >> i do, kari. this was an earlier crash we talked about on the last report. chp gives the heads up, it's actually westbound 580 which is your commute direction but then it transitions on to eastbound 24 so away from the bay bridge.

not heavily used right now but if you doing through that area the connector is temporarily closed. looks like they will have to remove the vehicle involved in that earlier crash. that is the big alert right now but it is not a major traffic impact but they did have to close the connector for a few. the rest of the bay a smooth slow of traffic. even the longer drives you are at speed. i do want to take you to waze and point out a little slowing we often see if the waze system is still working, there we go, sometimes we have a little glitch with other computers but right now we're looking just fine. the purple route is 12 minutes out of the altamonte pass past a little slowing. if you want to avoid that slowing take altamonte pass road but it takes you a couple minutes longer because that slowing is minor and almost always right at the merge. join nbc bay area wazers because we will give you when wherever you are. it is 4:49 right now. a former student speaks out

about alleged sexual abuse at a catholic high school in san jose claiming she was molested by a water polo coach. >> we first broke the student about presentation high. here is vicky nguyen with the exclusive report. >> good morning. grace leonis says she is a survivor of a toxic experience that left her broken to the point where she tried to end her life last year. now recovering and much stronger, grace sat down with us to speak about what happened when she was just 14, a freshman at presentation high school. she accuses 24-year-old water polo coach jenna roe of sexual assaulting her. grace's friends and teammates say they told the school's athletic director about grace and jenna sexting but the school never reported that information to police. presentation said, quote, nothing was reported to the school which rose to the level of any reasonable suspicion of abuse.
