house to cool down. even at this time in the morning, you're still trying to cool down from yesterday when we got into the 80s. >> oh, my gosh. >> in san jose. so we are starting out with a beautiful sunrise this morning. even as you step out, it feels very mild. it's in the mid 50s. only for the inland areas. and as we go throughout the day, we're going to see this fog help cool the coast, and it's a very shallow layer of fog. so it's going to help us out just a bit. but also reducing visibility in half moon bay and parts of san francisco. and then as we go into this morning, we walk out the door to some mid 50s and then seeing those highs still very warm for the inland areas. but i don't think we'll set any records today like we have been the past couple of days. we're still going to reach 80 degrees today in antioch, livermore and morgan hill. we continue on to make some near-normal temperatures heading in that direction over the next few days.

>> yeah. that actually looks like a lovely forecast. >> it is. >> for this holiday weekend. all right, kari, we'll check back in with you in a little bit. thanks. their calls for action are growing louder. protesters in downtown sacramento continue to demand justice in the death of stephon clark, shot by sacramento police. a private autopsy was released yesterday, sparking even more anger about how he died. we'll get to the autopsy findings in just a moment. but first, the warriors are in sacramento playing against the kings tonight. and a former warriors and kings star is asking his old teammates to take action. sacramento native, matt barnes, will be at a noon rally today in honor of stephon clark. he served as a pallbearer at clark's funeral and has given financial support to the clark family. he says the shooting is personal. >> i'm here for support, and i'm here as a father. i'm here as a black man tired of seeing this. >> over the past week and a half, protesters are blocked sacramento freeways and have demonstrated at kings' games. in some cases, they blocked

thousands of fans from entering the arena. as for tonight, warriors' coach steve kerr says he will talk to his players about getting involved. >> very much aware of what's been going on in sacramento and very supportive of the protests. i don't know what's going to happen. we'll see. >> definitely have stephon clark in our minds and the whole sacramento community, it's a hard thing to go through. something i've never been through and couldn't imagine. >> the warriors have not yet announced any official plans of joining the movement. we mentioned the autopsy results that were just released. it was an independent autopsy paid for by stephon clark's family. it showed he was hit by eight bullets, seven of them from behind. police were responding to a burglary call at the time when they confronted clark. they say that they fired when he came toward them with what they thought was a gun. it turned out it was a cell phone. after this independent report, family members say it proves clark never even turned to face

police. >> we can reasonably conclude that he received seven gunshot wounds from his back. >> the sacramento police department is still waiting for the official report from the county coroner's office. be sure to stay with us for continuing coverage on this story. we'll have several crews in sacramento for today's demonstrations. you can also follow us online on our website or on any of our social media platforms. now to the widow of the pulse nightclub shooter. she is a free woman, and her family says she's on her way back home to the bay area. before noor salman can speak to the media, she is going to need rest and therapy, they say. a jury of seven women and five men deliberated for more than 12 hours before acquitting salman on charges of aiding and abetting a terrorist and obstruction of justice. in june 2016, salman's husband, omar mateen, killed 49 people and injured 53 others at the

pulse nightclub in orlando. prosecutors claim salman helped her husband plan his violent attack in the name of the islamic state. but they were unable to convince the jury. >> she is not guilty. she is innocent. for those people who still think that there's a question, there is no question. a judge has decided. >> we are looking forward to taking my niece and hire a therapist for her. i don't know how she's going to make up for the last two years. >> salman has a 5-year-old son who has been living here with his grandmother in rodeo for the past two years. a major revelation from tesla. the company confirms the model x suv that crashed last week in mountain view was on autopilot at the time. our sky ranger was over the fiery scene right there on 101. investigators say the tesla crashed into a median barrier and burst into flames, killing the driver. in a statement on its blog, tesla says the driver ignored repeated warnings to grab the steering wheel, and take

control. tesla also is placing blame on caltrans saying the safety barrier was never replaced following a prior accident. well, we have hosted world series, super bowls and countless tech conferences. now san francisco wants to host the 2020 democratic national convention. yesterday in san francisco, the mayor officially notified the dnc of that hope. so what are the chances that san francisco could be the launching point for the next presidential election? here's "today in the bay's" sam brock. >> reporter: the san francisco bay area has always been prepared for the prime time. from super bowl 50 a couple years ago to the 1920 democratic convention a century ago, our history of hosting is rich. >> absolutely, san francisco wants to be in the mix and wants to be considered for the 2020 convention. >> reporter: mayor mark farrell zipped this letter off to tom perez, explaining for generations americans have looked west for pioneering, progressive leadership and

groundbreaking ideas. we hope the country again turns our way in 2020. >> for a place like san francisco that needs to market itself all of the time, as a visitor destination, as a convention destination, any of these national events that bring focus on the city is a positive thing. >> jim lazarus served as deputy mayor to dianne feinstein during the 1984 democratic convention. he says the still under construction chase arena and moscone center are the only options. in memorabilia provided by the california historical society showcases programs, flyers and salutes from that convention at moscone in '84. the selection also includes items from the 1920 convention, including this letter from the downtown association, asking then mayor ralph to clean up our streets. a century later, city cleanliness is still on the radar. sam brock, nbc bay area news. speaking of presidential

don't like what they're seeing. cyclists riding recklessly, taking over city streets. police say they have received more than 100 calls over the past few months, complaining about these so-called flash mob cyclists. people say the cyclists aren't following traffic laws and that the bicyclists are knocking over trash cans and damaging cars. bus tips for bart simpson. a tagger known for featuring a cartoon character has been arrested. images were found near china town in san francisco. tyler ross is now facing vandalism charges for them. we're told he's a transient. police say the fresh paint on his hands near one of the bart simpson images led to his arrest. and did you hear it? well, plenty of people did. a loud and unusual noise coming from the chevron refinery in richmond. it happened around 11:30 thursday night. it was caused from a steam pressure release. chevron sent out a statement, saying in rare instances steam

hector barajas learned the path is clear. talking via skype from his current home in tijuana, mexico, barajas told us what he's looking forward to the most. >> there's days when my daughter would cry, why can't you home, or i would take her to the border and couldn't go across with her. now i can. >> reporter: during his time abroad, barajas set up and still runs a shelter in tijuana nicknamed the bunker where he helps other deported vets. >> i was born in mexico. but my allegiance and who i choose to die and fight for is the united states of america. >> reporter: after being honorably discharged from the army, barajas pleaded guilty to illegally firing a gun in compton, california, served a year in prison and was deported under u.s. policy. his path to citizenship got smoother last april, when barajas learned governor jerry brown had pardoned him and two other vets. >> this is huge! >> reporter: barajas vows to fight on for the hundreds of other veterans who also were deported like him. >> my commitment is to the bunker to continue doing my work, and leave no men behind.

since 2002 to celebrate the program and make sure that seniors are not forgotten. what a great way to lead into kari hall. i love smiling about a good story and now we can smile about the weather, because it was a beautiful week, but -- too warm. >> yeah. and considering this is our first full week of spring, we didn't want to just skip over spring and go to summer, right? >> right, exactly. so now we're going back to spring. >> we're going to go back to spring in time for easter. >> thank goodness. >> here is a live look out there. we're going to take a look at some of our cameras. i just love sunrise and the first part of the day. we get to see what it looks like out there. you can see some fog rolling across the interstate right there at emeryville, and, of course, people are already up, out and about. before the inland areas, it's all clear. as we look outside, in dublin right now, it's also a fairly mild start. if you want to get your day started right going for a jog in san jose, we'll see a few clouds mixing in. and by 8:00, we're at 54 degrees. it does warm up quickly, and by

noon we're at 70 degrees. but i think that's still pretty perfect, and reaching into the upper 70s as the day goes along. as you check out that seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen, you see he that we will have a cooling trend on the way for the next several days. but we're heading up to 82 degrees in gilroy today. so some of our inland valleys will still be really warm. we should be in the upper 60s, near record highs in some spots. but i don't think we'll see a lot more records set. 83 will be the high in pleasanton and hayward looking at a high of 74 degrees. 76 degrees in palo alto. and 65 degrees in daly city. 65 also in ingleside and embarcadero at 68 degrees. a light southwesterly wind coming in through the north bay, and our high in novato up to 78 degrees. here is another look at that view as you can see. that shallow layer of fog moving

across san francisco at 2 to 500 feet at the surface. and then above that, it's all clear. so as we get dressed this morning, it's a day that you do still need a jacket to start, but short sleeves and shorts also good options as the day goes along. especially for those inland areas where it will still be very warm and sunglasses a necessity today. once that fog clears along the coast, it will be sunny there, as well. let's check out some events and some places you may be heading around the bay area. santa cruz will be perfect today. reaching the low 70s. a few clouds in the mix. and we'll hit that high temperature at about 4:00 this afternoon. there's also the easter egg hunt and parade going on today in sausalito. you may be getting up and getting the kids ready for that. make sure they have on a jacket because it will be in the low to mid 50s at the time the parade starts. low 60s for early afternoon. and tomorrow we've got union street spring celebration and the parade. that will kick off at 2:00 in

the afternoon. it will be at about 60 degrees, but nothing but sunshine there. and i wanted to show you what else is down the line. as we open up the picture and show you the satellite imagery, shows a few clouds moving in now. another storm system developing in the pacific. it will take a while before it gets here, but i think by thursday into friday, we'll start to see some changes in our weather. more clouds and a potential of some rain moving into the bay area. so i'll be tracking that. we'll talk about how much rain it could bring. it's coming up in the next microclimate forecast. kira? >> i'll stay tuned for that, especially if you just tell me what i need to wear. i love that, kari hall. thanks. it is 7:21. still ahead on "today in the bay," a group of local students prove why they are some of the brightest minds in the nation. they even have a trophy to prove it. a story that will make you bay area proud.

i'm april kennedy and i'm an arborist with pg&e in the sierras. since the onset of the drought, more than 129 million trees have died in california. pg&e prunes and removes over a million trees every year to ensure that hazardous trees can't impact power lines. and since the onset of the drought we've doubled our efforts. i grew up in the forests out in this area and honestly it's heartbreaking to see all these trees dying. what guides me is ensuring that the public is going to be safer and that these forests can be sustained and enjoyed by the community in the future. welcome back. many bay area universities are stocked with some of the brightest minds in our country.

we don't really need to prove it, but that's exactly what a group of local college students recently did. "today in the bay's" garvin thomas shares their triumph in this morning's "bay area proud." >> the school you have heard of, santa clara university. the competition you may not have. it is one that takes quick-thinking, insightful analysis and not only coming up with the right solution, but a good one. in a month, when the mind of many a sports fan is firmly fixed on a certain sport, in a place where they have had their share of success playing it, there is actually a new champion on campus. >> we think this is ultimately a social issue. >> reporter: one whose playing field is a bit smaller. and where the mental part of the game is the entire game. meet your santa clara university ethics bowl team. newly crowned national champions. >> the four of us are sitting

there looking at each other, having won, and all of us have tears in our eyes and are choked up and are just like what -- like, this is outstanding. >> reporter: even during such a heady time, connor, daisy, jeff and miles these days are just as likely to get questions as congratulations. like, what makes an ethics bowl? where teams argue cases in front of judges, different than traditional debates. >> not presenting arguments about things in the bay, it's applying them in ethical frameworks so it can be anything from nuclear warfare to solar flares. >> it's really more about what ought to be rather than exactly what is. >> reporter: and over the course of regional and national competitions, the santa clara team did that better than more than 200 other schools. >> there was just such a palpable feeling of camaraderie and expect among our team that i think you could never take away from us at that point. >> reporter: and while these

off? this latest twist stems from our exclusive report thursday night. former student, grace leonis says a freshman crush on her female water polo coach four years ago ended with a trauma advertising sexual experience in the back seat of the coach's car. grace's friend said they warned the all-girls catholic school about the coach's behavior, but presentation never reported that information to police. >> i had either just turned 14 or i was turning 14 when it started to get yucky. >> yesterday a lawyer working on behalf of alums who accused the school of covering up abuse points to explicit wording in the family settlement agreement with the school. it says in part, quote, in response to any direct inquiries regarding this matter or its resolution, claimants and their counsel agree they will respond by only stating the matter was resolved. end quote. the attorney says that type of agreement is illegal when it

>> becerra claims excess profits went to compensate executives. sutter says it hasn't seen the complaint, but stated on average that they charge less than other area hospitals. a new move by the trump administration could challenge california's ambitious clean energy goals. the trump administration is expected to announce roll backs of obama-era fuel efficiency standards. those standards sought to have cars get 55 miles per gallon by 2025. but trump's new epa director, scott pruitt will weaken the standards significantly. congress says the changes may not end up applying to our state. >> but i believe california has a law that allow us to maintain our own standard here in california. and frankly, we'll be leading not only the nation, but the world, and we'll be making tomorrow's cars in california. we're talking electric cars.

>> some conservative groups are urging the epa director to revoke the waiver, which would allow california to set its own rules. more controversy for facebook after an internal memo from a top executive was leaked. buzzfeed published it this week. andrew bosworth wrote, quote, all the work we do is justified, even if it costs people their lives. bosworth responded on twitter, saying the memo was intended to be provocative, and the ensuing debate helped shape the company's tools for the better. this news comes as facebook battles a personal data scandal. former governor, arnold schwarzenegger is recovering from heart surgery. doctors replaced a valve in his heart. he woke up from surgery and his first words were -- "i'm back." schwarzenegger is in good spirits, we're told. 20 years ago, he had a surgery to replace that same valve.

it is 7:46 on this holy saturday. as we wake up, we are seeing some fog returning to san francisco. we can see it rolling across the bay. and then just above that, all-clear skies sunrise, we'll have a beautiful afternoon once that fog clears. and then we head up to san rafael. as we can see the drive through the s-curve looking pretty good, and once again all-clear skies. the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen. you can check that out as we take a look at the sunshine over the south bay. filtered by some high clouds made from ice crystals, either way up in the atmosphere. and that will not give us any issues today. just giving us a filtered sunshine. and our temperatures reaching into the mid 50s by 9:00. now normally we're at 67 degrees, but we're still going to be in the upper 70s today. not as warm as yesterday. and there will be some fog along the coast. so if you're going to half moon

bay, expect that through at least noon and temperatures holding steady in the mid 50s. we'll only make it up to about 58 degrees there and some spots reaching the low 60s along the coast. 70 degrees for the high in san francisco and oakland and in concord today we're looking at a high of 81 degrees. 79 degrees in san jose. if you're going to napa, it's going to be 77. absolutely beautiful weather as we head out on this saturday. and here's one thing you might want to check out. the tall ships tour will be happening in antioch. you can go to the marina plaza and see these old ships used in movies. so it will be really cool thing to do with the kids. it will be 67 degrees at 11:00. and then early this afternoon, low 70s expected with some sunshine. and then tomorrow, as you make easter plans, maybe you'll want to go for a wild flower walk. that will be happening in mt. diablo and a guided tour that starts at 9:30 in the morning. it's going to be cool. make sure you bring a jacket. 55 degrees.

and then in the low 60s by late morning into the afternoon as that height goes along. and if you're lucky enough to be packing the car and getting ready to head to the sierra, here is a live look outside at squaw valley as those clouds move in. it still will be a nice, sunny day. and highs reaching the mid 50s. we still have about 139 inches of snow on the ground in parts of squaw valley. so really good news there. and as we take a look at the forecast and what's ahead, there will be another storm system developing. this one could bring us our next atmospheric river by the end of next week. connecting with that moisture all the way from hawaii. otherwise known as the pineapple express. this will be moving in by next thursday. it could linger into next saturday, as well. now we're really excited about the home opener for the giants' first pitch on tuesday. it will be at 67 degrees and all-clear skies. and then we'll start to see some more clouds moving in by wednesday out ahead of the next storm system that will be moving in. and it will be cooling off, as well.

we'll be tracking that rain for next week that could bring us at least an inch or so of rain for parts of the bay area. we know it's been really dry recently, and very warm, too. so it's good to know we have all kinds of weather in the forecast from some cooling temperatures to sunshine. and also some rain farther down the line. kira? >> i was looking at my front door, kari, and i had my little baby rain boots. >> oh, yeah. >> i have my flip flops. >> you'll still be able to use those. >> i have my raincoat, a sun hat. all sorts of things that we still need this week. thanks. still ahead on "today in the bay," a tale of two homes that used to be one big mansion. and now you could own a piece of this san francisco history. we'll tell you the bizarre story, next.

land in san jose. according to the mercury news -- google has bought more land in san jose. according to the mercury news, its latest purchase is the orchard supply hardware store and the large vacant lot next to it near the s.a.p. center with a price tag of a whopping $39.6 million. google has now spent well over $200 million in south bay real estate. in december, the company announced plans for a sunnyvale campus called karavian. in downtown san jose, the community is in the works, which would include up to 8 million square feet of offices, restaurants and residential properties. now to a historic mansion

with a storied past. a home in san francisco's pacific heights is now for sale in the north bay. "today in the bay's" joe rosato jr. has the story of the home that was saved by being split in half. >> reporter: every old house has a story. but up in san francisco's pacific heights, the tales of grand homes are among the most colorful. yet none of those stories has more twists than the tale of why this san francisco mansion isn't in san francisco. >> it used to reside at 1818 broadway in san francisco. pacific heights. >> the moffitt mansion was one of the swankiest addresses. but it nearly didn't survive 1960's development. >> they were tearing it down to replace it with apartment buildings. >> reporter: but before its date with the wrecking ball in 1962 came a date with the chain saw. >> a local architect said, we can't have that.

and he devised a plan to cut this moffitt mansion in half. >> reporter: the house was sliced in two pieces and trucked down franklin street. from there they were taken by barge across the bay to the marin county town of belvedere. >> they put it together and i think it's quite amazing. >> reporter: so 1818 broadway became an apartment building, and the moffitt home claimed number 8 shore road. >> this is where they gathered. look at the detail of some of these windows. you've got a solarium. here we are in the formal dining room. >> reporter: with the 7,000 square foot mansion now for sale, there are many features for real estate agent hazel carter to show off. >> here we are in the master bedroom. one of the six fireplaces. >> reporter: but maybe the most compelling detail is the small crack in the entryway wall. >> and this is where the cut was. we left that to let people know where it happened. >> reporter: the house cost
