change really no big deal, no difference. san jose about one degree cooler, concord four degrees warmer. sfwr san francisco three. so on the seasonable end of the spring temperatures. and road crews are on the move because they typically work overnight. we're seeing a little bit at the altamont. typical. and highway 37 again i saw slowing eastbound as the crews should be preparing to clear between lakeville and 121. but right now a little slowing west boipd. and the bound. and there is the bay bridge, cash lanes should clear in the next five. a police chase and crash ended in the mt. pleasant area near white road and story road. it took out a crash pole knocking out electricity for about 300 people. one woman described what she

heard. >> we had just gone to bed and out of nowhere, we heard a loud boom and sirens. >> this happened around 2:30 in the morning. pg and eflt says abo says abou4s are still without power. and this mexican immigrant facing deportation will be released from jail today. roz, activists say this is just one step in the right direction. >> reporter: his family is very excited to hear about all of this. i've been talking to his wife over the past couple days. here is how she says the morning will proceed. he should leave the jail about 5:00 or so right about now and head here to the i.c.e. headquarters. processing of the paperwork will take a couple hours and they expect him to be released sometime between 9:00 and 11:00 this morning. and let's take you back a little bit.

fernando is that undocumented is an they say man who i.c.e. agents picked up last october and he is drop off his daughter at daycare. i.c.e. said he had been imported before and he had a dui. his detention sparked protests by human rights activists. his lawyers argued that he would be this danger if he were deported to mexico. and last week a judge ruled that he be released on a removal order, so he can stay here as long as he has no run-ins with law enforcement. and so far the government has not appealed that ruling. his wife tells me that they where looking forward to his release. he is looking forward to getting a work permit, getting back to work and not having to live in the shadows anymore. so for now, they are looking forward to that happening, that reunion sometime after 9:00 this morning. roz plater for "today in the bay." and now to the news out of washington. president trump is back in d.c. as we take a look at our nation's capital.

the president is reigniting the debate over daca. he is tweeting about the deal to protect young immigrants. he says, quote, daca is dead because the democrats didn't care or act and now everyone wants to get on to daca bandwagon. no longer works. must build wall and secure our boarders. democrats want no borders, hints drug and kricrime. tracie potts is live with what is next. >> reporter: and the president's tweets are addressing who different issues. people who are already in this country undocumented and these who he insist continue to pour across the border. no more daca deal, president trump declares on twitter. >> mexico has to help us at the border. they flow right through mexico. they send them into the united

step toward recovery in the north bay burn zones. pg and e plans to install 13 miles of power lines and 15 miles of gas lining underground in the coffey park neighborhood. and crews are expected to work 12 hour days. homeowners say they are hopeful that the work can help their community which is still healing. >> i just hope that they can really work together and realize you're really building an entire community. so let's all work on together to make it happen and make it happen right. >> the work comes as the investigation into what started the fire continues. right now the investigation is focusing on pg&e power lines. the search for the missing teen continues in southern california. we checked again with our sister station and authorities think the 13-year-old fell into a drainage ditch in griffith park. witnesses say that he was jumping on a wooden plank when it gave way. the drainage ditch flows down to

the l.a. river. and another strategy, an 11-year-old boy is dead after falling in a pg&e canal sunday night. deputies say a neighbor called 911 after hearing the boy's prison that the boy had fallen into the water. and a man is out of the hospital after he was trapped under a fallen tree branch at a popular park. this happened at mclaren park yesterday. paramedics took him to the hospital, he did have serious injuries. but was able to go home hours later. we talked with hiker yesterday who still think that the park is a safe place. >> absolutely i think this park is pretty well maintained. i go on a lot of the side trails and they are usually pretty well cleared. >> no word on what caused the branch to fail. researchers are hoping recent storms brought drastic changes to the sierra. the result of a new snow survey are expected later today.

early last month researchers said a storm boosted the snow back level up to 80%, but still two-thirds below the average snow back level. we're certainly hoping for a little better there. >> and we definitely are. and we've been talking when atmospheric river expected to make its way in on thursday and it looks like judging by a cold front that sweeps in on friday this could be enough to generate more snow. so a quick look, your estimated sierra snow totals through sunday, we could get a couple inches, about 11 in tahoe city, 16 in twin bridges. and that is through the weekend just ahead of the cold front on friday. so we'll keep a close eye on that storm system. but right now your temperatures are on the cooler side as you make your way outside in san jose, 50 hayward, 53. oak land, 52. palo alto, 49. and the temperature trend is looking perfect to enjoy the outdoors and even though it is monday and a lot of us are back at work, try to head out for

dealing with the 50 million facebook users who had their data accessed by an outside company called cambridge analytica. women, some time ago apple was in chicago to unveil some new products, this happened on tuesday after the unveiling apple ceo tim cook was asked about the facebook situation and the life concerns. tim cook said privacy to us is a human right. he suggested that what you facebook is a free service that users of facebook become the product that are then sold to advertisers. he said apple does not and will not do that. word got down to facebook ceo mark zuckerberg who responded over the weekend on a vox podcast, he said i find that argument that if you're not paying that somehow we can't care about you to be extremely glib and not at all aligned with the truth. zuckerberg has been battling not only concerns that people are leaving his service, but because

that he had thrown a metal pipe hurting a man. and a man says that six young people stole his two cellphones at the lake merritt station. b.a.r.t. police department are reporting a surge in arrests for 2017. crime data shows officers arrested over 1700 people in 2017. that is nearly 40% increase from 2016. b.a.r.t. says the numbers also show officers are focused on fair enforcement. the number of citations and warningsvaders jumped 88%. if you plan to head out on cal train this morning, you may see some changes. cal train is implementing a new system to also crack down on fare evaders. instead of paper citations, conductors will use a device to scan a ride are's i.d. if they are caught without a ticket and then fans will be sent lk tr electronically. first and second offense will

to the daca bandwagon. no longer works. the president is also tweeting about what he calls care vans. he claims that there are huge groups of people on their way to the mexico/be u.s. border right now, and he says that they want to take advantage of daca. these big flows of people are all trying to take advantage of daca, they want in on the act. but of course that is not how daca works. you have to have lived in the u.s. since 2007 to be applicable for daca. daca would not cover people he is talking about. it's not even really clear if the people that he is talking about the caravans even exist. the caravan idea came from a center for immigration studies. this is an organization the southern poverty law center calls an anti-immigrant extremist group. president trump once again repeated these ideas as he arrived in washington saying that a lot of people are coming because they want to take advantage of daca.

again, we have no evidence of a lot of people. and if they exist, they couldn't take advantage of daca. now, if you are covered under daca, you are asking what now. and the answer is we don't really know. if the president is serious, then the daca deal may be dead. it will expire, you'd have to leave the country. but it's not clear he is serious. he's talked in the past about his desire to have a daca deal that has heart and he has tweeted that it would be unfair to deport people who came to the country as skkids. on a lighter night, the white house is hosting the annual easter egg roll. we'll bring you video of that just as soon as it comes into our newsroom. so everyone is talking about it on social media. did you see jesus christ superstar? that popular musical came on tv screens last night right here on nbc bay area. ♪
