hunting easter eggs yesterday. this morning, we're dealing with yet another morning storm. dylan is in for al in the elements. what gives? >> what is going on is right. the crowd seems happy, just the same. we have the snow falling heavily right now. we got reports of two-inch snowfall rates at laguardia airport. we advisories in pennsylvania, new jersey, connecticut and connecticut and even parts of southern new england. it's a fast-moving storm. by this afternoon, the sunshine returns and you'll forget this ever happened. in the meantime, it is making a mess of the morning commute. as we go through the morning, we'll see periods of heavier snow in the morning. the 1 to 2 inch snowfall rates. by this afternoon, 3:00 p.m., we'll see sunshine breaking through. that will start to melt the snow that accumulates. it is about 31, 32 degrees across most of the northeast. so temperatures are cold enough for this snow to stick. we have been seeing a slushy mess on the roads, on the

the president and the first lady expected a short time from now. this weekend, the easter spirit giving way for the president to vent frustrations and misinformation about his hard-line positions on immigration. president trump back in washington, after celebrating the holiday at his mar-a-lago estate. the president on sunday hand in hand with the first lady attending easter services but pausing to pour fuel on a less than festive topic, immigration. >> mexico has to help us at the border. a lot of people are coming in to take advantage of daca. we're going to have to really see. they had a great chance. the democrats blew it. >> reporter: but the daca program established under president obama only applies to young, undocumented immigrants brought to the u.s. as children who have been living here since 2007. meaning, anyone who illegally crosses the border now is not eligible. for dreamers, their future is still up in the air at the center of a fierce fight. the president's comments punctuating a series of tweets, arguing the situation at the border is getting more

for this walk-out. teachers will descend here on the capitol hill for what could be the largest demonstration ever at oklahoma's capitol. a teacher rebellion marches on. this morning, 40,000 teachers in oklahoma will stage a walkout, rallying at the state capitol, for increased school funding and better pay. lawmakers staved off a walkout last week trying passing a $6,100 salary increase, the largest in state history, but teachers say it's not enough. >> i'm not walking out on my children or students. i'm walking for my students. >> reporter: problems in oklahoma extend beyond salaries, pointing to overcrowded classrooms, outdated books and equipment in disrepair. >> our buildings are falling down. it's because my classroom tables have been molded back together three times in the past 24 months. >> we need the ledge slature to keep working. they need to fully fund our classrooms. >> reporter: oklahoma

like wild fire. teachers feeling emboldened. hoda and savannah, back to you. >> blake, thank you so much. now to the protests raging in sacramento over the police shooting death of an unarmed black man two weeks ago. tensions reached a new level this weekend when a protester was struck by a sheriff's department vehicle. >> oh, my gosh. oh, my gosh. >> authorities confirm a woman was hit and sustained minor injuries. she was treated at the hospital. more than 100 people were gathered to call for an end to police violence. the demonstration marks the second weekend of protests since stephon clark was shot by police officers on march 18th. an investigation into that shooting is still under way. after spending two years behind bars, the so-called affluenza teen ethan couch is expected to be released from a tax jail today. there's controversial surrounding that. gabe gutierrez is in ft. worth this morning. hey, gabe, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. this drunk driving case drew

worldwide attention for the defense's unusual legal strategy, claiming wealth and privilege as an excuse for not knowing right from wrong. now the best friend of one of the victims who says he's visited ethan couch in jail says couch is remorseful, he just doesn't know how to express it. this morning, ethan couch once known worldwide as the affluenza teen is set to walk out of jail, a chaplain who lost his best friend in couch's drunk driving crash says the now 20-year-old is a changed man. he senked just under two years for violating his probation after killing four people and injured nine others in a horrific drunk driving crash in 2013 when he was a juvenile. >> we need some ambulances. >> from the start, the case generated one shocking headline after another. starting with the affluenza defense, not a recognized medical condition, suggesting couch's affluent upbringing left him unable to know right from wrong. >> tell us your name, sir.

>> ethan couch. >> two years later, couch was questioned as part of a civil suit. shortly after that the story took another bizarre turn. after this video surface aid peering to show couch violating his probation by being at a party with alcohol, he and his mother tonya fled. the two were tracked down in mexico. then-19, when the stiffer two-year sentence was imposed on ethan. his mother was charged with two felonies but freed on bail. then, last week, she was rearrested, charged with failing a urine test and sent to the same jail as her son. his critics say 180 days in jail for each person he killed is a travesty. >> i'm horribly angry that our legal system has let down these victims. >> reporter: the family of sergio molina who was killed in the crash expressed their frustration in a written statement, writing, it's a constant struggle. nothing, no amount of money can make this right. after he is released, couch is expected to live with his

six adopted children. the other three believed to be in the suv are still missing. >> no signs of anybody around. no signs of anybody at all. >> reporter: now, a spokesperson with the california highway patrol tells nbc news, new evidence suggests the family's suv had stopped 70 feet from the cliff's edge and accelerated straight off the cliff and into the pacific coast waters 100 feet below. >> this is a very confusing scene because there's no skid marks. there's no brake marks. >> reporter: could the harts have crashed on purpose? ♪ happy birthday to you >> reporter: on social media, they were the picture of a happy family. but social services has identified the deceased children as potential victims of neglect or abuse. public records show one of the moms pled guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault in 2011, after bruises were found on her

6-year-old daughter's body. hart admitted that she let her anger get out of control. one of the missing children, devonte hart, was famously photographed in 2014, hugging a police officer during a rally in portland. but neighbors said devonte had been sneaking over to their home, begging for food. >> devonte, coming over here and telling us that, you know, he's being starved to death. they're mean and, you know, he doesn't like it. >> reporter: but friends of the family says the harts were great parents. >> they were the most loving two moms we would hacould have seen earth, caring for six adoptive children. >> reporter: police searched the family's home, taking away computers, credit card and bank statements. all clues in this devastating crash. no suicide note was found in the family home and investigators are working with police in washington state where they

good morning. 7:55. we're off as to a clear start over san francisco. a great way to start our monday morning. we're seeing mostly clear skies. temperatures remain on the cooler side in the 40s and 50s and a quick check of your coastal fog and 24 hour temperature change, still areas of patchy fog along the coast and woodside. right now though temperatures are seasonable into the afternoon. we'll see a nice increase into the mid-60s for san francisco. highs about 63. plenty of sunshine to go around. further inland, we will climb into the upper 60s and even low 70s. san jose expecting a high of 73, but overall we will maintain mostly clear skies and dry conditions before we see a big shift in the weather that will bring in rain. i'll talk more about that in a bit. and looking at a good commute. nice roadways.

carolyn, when she decided on paris? >> i was freaking out inside. the one thing i told her when she asked me, this is your life. i want you to know that whatever choice you make, i will support you in that, in my heart, i wanted her to go to college, too. >> but you let her do what she wanted. there's a lot of life lessons for any child and parent in this book. you own who you are. you've never been afraid to talk about weight, about anything. you have a couple of revelations in the book, too. you got a nose job and you didn't talk about it. and you say, what was your phrase? >> fix it or flaunt it. >> yeah. >> when i was -- how old was i? 5? or 3? >> you were about 3. >> i didn't know i broke my nose. i didn't know it. >> i didn't know it. >> so, my aunt said, your child -- her sister said, tyra

broke her nose. she's not crying that much. cut to years later, i'm like, constantly scratching my nose. it was growing sideways. i didn't notice until a makeup artist told me. girl, your nose, it's like alive. it's growing sideways. it's getting big on the side. and when i touch it, i feel like bones sticking out. >> you fixed it because it was broken. >> yes, it was broken. however, the doctor was like, yeah, it's broken, but you can breathe. if you want to fix it, maybe we should make it look like your moms. and hers was too keen for my face. he says, let's do this and make it african-american. it was cosmetic/medical. >> we should point out this book has so many great stories. you write in your own voice, i feel like i know you after reading this book. >> that's what she said. >> thank you so much. the book is called "perfect is

and we're back with "today food." one of our favorites is here. lidia bastianich. she is the matriary trtriarch o. she was forced to plea yugoslavia when she was a young girl. stayed in italy before coming to america and eventually cooking up a culinary empire. she opens up in her new book, "my american dream." about the book, what do you remember about the days being a young girl behind communist regime? >> i remember vividly everything. it was so engrained in my mind. it was a difficult time. i remember, i grew up with my

grandmother because things were -- >> rosa. you talk a lot about her. >> there wasn't enough food. they didn't let us practice our religion. a lot of foraging for asparagu. the thin ones were wild asparagus. we would make frittatas in the spring thy springtime. >> did you think your love of cooking came from your grandmother? >> absolutely. when we escaped, i didn't know we weren't going to go back. my mother, my brother and myself went to italy to visit family. my father remained because they held one member of the family as a hostage. he joined us and escaped. and i was told we would not go back to see grandma. and food became my connection to her. and i've been cooking since, to try to carry on with grandma's flavors. >> that's beautiful.
