be a nice one. >> so far, soo good. you're going to like today even more because of the giants, right? we've got the 50s out there right now. comfortable weather showing you the cool side as you're heading out the door. 49 in san jose, 49 in san francisco, 42 in santa rosa. look at your giants home opener today. the first pitch is at 1:35 p.m. i wanted snow you. by about 1:00, the temperatures increase to 64. we 2:00, about 66 degrees. expect to see very nice sunny perfect baseball weather. a light breeze might be comfortable but nothing too strong. aisle break down the atmospheric river but let's check in with

mike. >> we're aiming at oakland where we're looking at a smoother much better drive northbound. the last of the crews to head north by the coliseum, clearing. the overnight construction was clearing in the last few minutes. now we have no major issues. there, the bottom number past that scene we saw to the bay bridge. the top numbers, getting nowhere near the bay bridge. a smooth flow of traffic around the bay as we look around. a nice easy drive. there's more. 880 coming toward us. back to you. >> all right. thanks, mike. we're following breaking news out of hercules right now. there's heavy police activity. this is video we just received from the bay.

we can bring you the newest and latest information. that will be coming up later in our newscast. cracking down on carpool cheaters as we take a live look at the morning commute on 880 in fremont this morning. right now officials say they're in the middle of checking out a camera system that would check those. they won't say which freeway they're testing the system on, but we know the cameras count people inside every single vehicle. no tickets or warnings are issued during the test. san francisco may be the next city that bans. the bill being introduced by san francisco supervisor would ban landlords from passing on the expense of property taxes and other debts to representers, but it would still allow them to pass on the costs of repairs made to the building. >> it's 5:03 and a followup from

the albany school district over several students punished over an instagram account. according to the east bay times the students were disciplined for not alerting them about the account. together they will receive about $500,00 $500,000, however, the creator of the account is still fighting expulsion from school. 5:04, a new set of recommendations. a civil grand jury recently issued the findings for follow-up investigation on sports head injuries and the foot-related condition cte. the report concludes morin needs more consistency across all campuses. a safety reminder for those ready to kiev into the water this spring. pittsburgh blees shared these photos after a rescue crew had to save for people on a jet ski in a marinmarina.

they just said, be careful out there. back to our giants home opener coverage, it's a great day for baseball as we take a live look at at&t park. the stadium already lit up. this afternoon the giants play the seattle mariners. it's going to be a big day. >> tod"today in the bay's" bob redell is looking at things. we're not only talk about seats but new food and ways to watch it. >> i found my seat. i'm just not sure bruce bochy would allow me to stay here at game time. if you're like me and the rest of the fans, there are several ways. they tested it out. it's called the ballpark pass. this is how it works. it costs $19.58 a month. $19.58 being the year giants moved from new york to san

francisco. it allows you to come in. the giants will text you before each game. if you want to go to that game, you'll receive barcode. the team is trying to target those fans on their lunch break and maybe only have enough time for one or two innings. >> it's amazing. even here in this clushouse, you walk around the bars, a lot of people aren't watching the game. not everybody comes here for the same reason. some because it's the place to be. there are other friends here. it's a social place. it's a social event. some fans are coming for the game and some because they want to see their buddies. so this pass will give them that flexibility to come and go as they please. >> reporter: you'll also notice some new food offerings. baker and barry bonds and track down bob and steal his juicy lucy. >> it's 5:07. i like how he lost his words. right now your current temperature in san francisco is 49 degrees. got some light cloud cover out there. i want to show you the temperature trend because this is also going to play in. of course, the giants home opener. by 9:00 a.m. we'll be in the upper 50s and eventually into the low 60s. we're going to see cloud cover early on and clear out quite nicely. we'll have a high of 62 degrees in san francisco. so definitely expect that perfect baseball weather. as far as san jose goes, we're all expecting great conditions as well. by 10:00 a.m., we'll be at 58. it will eventually climb into the 70s. very seasonable weather. a dry afternoon. and, of course, it looks like

we'll see more changes. >> great for the tri-valley. this stretch from 580 not a problem. it's north of there where we did see the crash coming out of the pleasant hill area. we'll give you an update. 5:13 on your tuesday. stocks took their biggest hit in years. these numbers look bad. but they really don't tell the tale. dow down 458, nasdaq down 193. this was far worse in the middle of the day. at one point the dow was down more than 750 points. we're now in correction territory. up 10% from recent highs and u.s. trade policy is at the center of all of this. a lot of stocks are attractively priced. underlying problems haven't gone away. facebook, a large institutional investor is called for mark zuckerberg to step down as chairman of the board there but

remain ceo. spoti spotify, these numbers are not in line. it's not going to sell shares early to investors. it's going to start breaking. that means we have no idea what the opening price is going to be. the market will figure that out naturally. president trump continues to rail against amazon. he said amazon takes advantage of the u.s. postal service, that the postal service is losings money delivering for amazon. i spent the better part of the day going over the numbers and talking to the u.s. postal service. weirdly the usps won't show anyone the actually numbers, showing us how much they make on amazon deliveries we went all the way to the top and got no comment. we know package deliveries are a

profit maker for the postal service. we also know the law says the post office makes a deal with the company. it has to cover the cost of delivery and they're not allowed to undercut other private delivery companies on price some of while they don't want to wade into this fight, you take the various clues together and you've got to assume it's not taking a loss because it's really not allowed to. >> no. it's a taxpayer-funded thing. >> it funds itself, but it's under contract and there are laws that cover that it can't take a loss, so one would presume the president may not be correct on this. >> thank you very much for verifying that. >> well, new this morning, speaking out for the first time, a woman closer than most to one of america's most darkest days, the assassination of dr. martin luther king jr. tomorrow marks 50 years since his assassination. for the first time a woman who worked where he was killed

speaks of her experience. she worked in the kitchen of the hotel and she can be seen in the background of that iconic photo capturing it. >> at first i thought it was firecrackers, you know. we all ran outside to see what was going on, and he was lying on his back and i'm standing there. >> she said even though she was close to what happened, she could not fathom dr. king dprieg his injure park. the game is this afternoon. dying from his injuries. you're looking live right now at at&t park. the game is this afternoon. one notable giants fan won't be there today. >> yeah. the team is going to honor, though, late san francisco mayor ed lee. lee loved the giants and as mayor, he never missed a home opener. he died in december.

giants ceo larry baer said he was not just a fan. he was a cheerleader for the team. >> ed was a great friend of the giants. i know from a personal standpoint, every opening day, it was a tradition, he would come down, sit in the first row for every opening day he was mayor and basically he ield walk through the stands and say, go i giant, and shake hands with anybody he could find throughout the rest of the game. we're going to miss ed dearly. higgs wed doe and two daughters will be there. all of the former living mayors will be there too. here are some facts you may not know. "forbes" magazine has named the ballpark the best ballpark two years running. it opened in 1999. ing the team says it sells 30,000 tickets every year.

vianey, the weather looks like it's going to be peachy. >> it really does. very springlike. nice, especially with all the constant changes of the weather. but aside from a dry and comfortable day in san francisco, look at this shot. we've got mostly clear skies. the temperatures are in the 40s. 49 degrees for san jose, san francisco, 49. we do have a couple of changes on the way, but i want to talk to you about your microclimate highs. what are we expecting. well, as i mentioned, very seasonable weather and san francisco, expect a high of 62 degrees. your bay area sky, we will see a light cloud cover early on, but eventually we'll see mostly clearing skies, which means sunny afternoon. we'll climb to 70s near east

bay. for san jose, about 73 degrees. on the comfortable side. another great day, especially if you enjoyed yesterday. now i want to show you a shot of the doppler radar because it shows what's to come. this is important because i know it's only tuesday. you want to be prepared. right now you see we've got calm weather over the bay area. but just off the coast, we've got this subtropical moisture and that's tapping into hawaii. this right now is taking its aim toward california. and right now all the molds are showing the biggest impact will be northern california. here's a quick check of what we can expect. so as of right now, that system is expecting to make its arrival thursday night into friday. widespread rain on friday, which means complete washout. friday night into saturday morn, possibly 1 to 3 inches. what does this mean for sierra flow? we're tapping into the subtropical system. that may melt some of that snow

pack, the recent snow that's been up in the mtss, especially in the areas near the mountains and down below. however, as we head toward saturday night and sunday, a look that we may get a chance of getting snow fachlt let's send things toward mike. >> we've got a calm drive right now. we popped up a couple of crashes. this one is a concern. southbound. i told you i'd check on the crash around treat. we do have your two left lanes currently blocking. hopefully crews can take care of that quickly. we'll track that for you as well as the slight build, number 16 now. that's how many minutes it takes

villanova wildcats. michigan )s thrilling welcome back. we look at the ncaa championship. >> another nation has another championship. >> can you imagine what they're feeling? michigan's thrilling run ended with aed through in the final game. the wolverines were no match for the wildcats who won 79-62. outside of philadelphia, fans flooded villanova's campus. it's the fourth school since 1975 to win two titles in three seasons. >> the state attorney general is trying to crack down on con ter fit go counterfeit goods.

investigators confiscated counterfeit sports jerseys, luxury purses, cigarettes, all of them being sold at independently owned shops. >> we're here united around a very basic and very simple principle. if you work hard and play by the rules, you should be able to get ahead. >> the attorney general says as much as $140 billion is spent on goods each year. last month the board of supervisors unanimously signed off on that bill. the bill does not impact vintage furs. scientists are looking at whether cell phones are linked to cancer. scientists exposed rats to exposure. 3% of rats developed a heart

arama who has your weather. >> you know how to wake up and enjoy your coffee, but you hoe how to enjoy your day. we're seeing a cool morning. by about 10:00 a.m., mostly clear skies. we'll be at 57 degrees. first pitch is at 1:35 which means leading up to the game, we'll start to see comfortable temperatures climbing into the 60s with light winds. not really gusty, which is great. we don't like winds. we see mostly clear skies and then by about 4:00, so headed toward the end of the game, you'll start noticing an increase in cloud cover, but aside from that cloud cover, we're going to say nice and dry with very seasonable temperatures for the big game. let's send things over to mike. >> we're going to see it around at&t park. right now getting into the cities, obviously the bray

something like that. >> that's right, marcus. it aclears that he is no stranger to these types of peeping incidents. in fact, his most latest one hand. he was recording it. she called san rafael police and when they looked through the phone they found videos of maldonado in it. he was taken into custody the following day after easter sunday. we'll pull up some of the information. you see in 2015 he was arrested for peeking into a woman's parent in tara linda and then another peeping incident in san rafael and the most recent at

northgate mall this past weekend. his bail was set at $20,000. we're live in terra linda. pete suratos. a prayer service will be held for elicio lopez where he and four others were mowed down by a van. the victim was coming back from a fishing trip when they were attacked. his partner said he was able to speak to lopez before he died. >> didn't want to leave him, but unfortunately he died on my hands. >> now, the suspect in the atarks mark dennis, appeared in court yesterday. witnesses say he yelled racial slurs at the victims.

>> it is 5:34 right now. a horrifying crash and three children presumed dead this morning after the crash. examiners are examining red flags in the family's history and new evidence suggests that the suv was stopped completely about 70 feet from the edge before the driver sped off over the cliff without stopping. two parents and three other siblings were already recovered from the crash site. happening today, santa clara county leaders will raise a memorial flag later this morning. they'll introduce a new hotline for child abuse. it appears that california's car theevs are having a harter time stealing the cars they want, reversing two years of increasing. last year about 175,000 cars were stolen in california, which

is more than a billion worth. the chp says anti-theft technology is helping stop many of those. dub lick leaders will meet tonight to propose a b.a.r.t. extension. they're looking at four possible plans to extend service about five miles east of pleasanton station. they voted to support a conventional train line, but others inclues light ray or bus service. 5:36 and back to our coverage of the giants home opener. we start with a live look at at&t park. right now it's empty. it won't be the case much longer. >> how the season marked 60 years since the giants moved from new york to san francisco. some fans will remember that. garvin thomas joins the team "today in the bay" this morning live from the ball park. garvin, what can fans expect throughout this special reason and will it be as exciting as the olympics were for you? >> reporter: i think it will be just as exciting, kris.

you and marcus, you're too young to understand this. people of a certain age, you get to a certain age and one day you blink, your kids have grown, you've been working in the same place, living in the same place and giants woke up and know what that experience is like. they've been in san francisco for more than 60 years. even amazing still is that the giants played in new york for more than 70 years before coming out to california. now, they came out west in 1958. in the first two seasons they played at seal stadium in the mission. that's one of two stadiums that's not around anymore, to honor its skpis tins. here's giants ceo larry baer talking about it. >> one of the things is the giant exhibit with willie mays on the cable cars and in the

cars when they got the open bag raid for the giants in 1958 before we played a game at seal stadium. >> reporter: the giants only played at seal stadium for two seasons but then they moved to candlestick in 1960. sharing that stadium which is no longer around with the 49ers making lots of great sports memories for both teams there and in 1999 the team moved to at&t park. now, you'll see not just the giants ballpark but lots of other things throughout the season, celebrating san francisco giants' 60th season. >> i do know folks who remember when the giants were from new york. my husband's family is in new york and knew them. so we have fans on both coasts. later this morning marcus and i will be live on the field for our midday newscast.

the crash cleared out at treet. good stuff. >> good stuff. >> we're enjoying the weather right now. we're thinking about the weather over the weekend. you say it's going to be a challenge from what we're experiencing now. >> yeah. unfortunately we've got this atmospheric river, which for me is an exciting forecast. it's not maybe a good sight, especially if had plans. that system will make its way in overnight in to friday, which friday night we're expecting widespread rain and that system, friday night into saturday we've got a cold front making its way and unfortunately more rain is expected on saturday, which means gusty conditions, especially early on into saturday afternoon. we could be seeing gusts. it means any of those outside tents can get blown away.

good morning. it's 5:44. eventually we'll start climbing to the 50s, 60s, even 70s out of the forecast. mostly clear skies. i'll talk about that giants home opener forecast coming up next. we're talking about the drive toward the bay bridge. a little build on the volume for the east shore freeway that's the top number. still, 22 minutes from the whooi 4 to the backup. no slowing at the top of your

screen. pretty standard. dublin interchange looks great. happening today, relatives of stephon clark will join state lawmakers to propose title moves. officers in sacramento shot and killed clark last month. he was carrying only a cell phone. lawmakers today will announce new legislation that would restrict lethal shooting to only when there are no other reasonable alternatives. that would give california the tightest rules of any state. our continuing coverage. a southern california boy talking about the frightening experience he had in this sewer pipe which could have easily killed him. we introduced jesse hernandez yesterday. he was trapped for 12 hours in l.a.'s sewer system after a wooden plank he was on gave way. we followed his rescue all morning. sludge water washed him about a half mile from where he first fell into that sewer line.

a sanitation camera spotted him and workers dropped a hose to pull him to safety. he called that experience a nightmare yesterday but only after he was deacon tame nated . >> i was on my shirt and nose. i couldn't smell it. he was not injured and he's all cleaned up, but what at experience. happening today, a soes man who saved his elderly neighbor from a burning home is getting accommodation from the city. this was on the scene of bel-air avenue on march 10th. they heard that explosion, then saw his elderly neighbor crawled through that rubble of her home. they sprang into action saving his neighbor from the fire. and meanwhile president trump is sounding the alarm about refugees from honduras. >> they're headed north through mexico and president trump wants mexico to stop. >> that's exactly right.

before they get to the u.s. border, kris. he's tweeted about this several times. at first kind of vague about these so-called caravans, but this morning he's made it clear he does mean the honduran rev gees. this is video yesterday from out of wu oaxaca. several times president trump said this group has come to america to apply for daca status, which is impossible. the daca rules say you have to have lived in the united states since 2007. the people he's talking about are not eligible for daca in in wei, shape, or form. the president tweeting this morning the big caravan of people from honduras coming across mexico and heading to our weak laws border had better be stopped before it gets there. then he hints the u.s. may pull from nafta if mexico doesn't obey and says congress has to act now. congress is, in fact, in recess. the president's moved farther to the right on immigration. it was not that long ago he

praised dreamers and said he wanted an immigration bill with heart. he's talking much tougher now and this seems to be paying off. while we run the risk of confusing cause and effect, in the last few days, the president's polling has moved to the positive. it now says 50% of americans now approve of the president in a three-day tracking poll. he's also pragz sinclair broadcasting. that's that television company that owns nearly 200 stations around the country. it's waiting for trump to approve more. we tuned in to sin clare seattle station this morning to see what was on. we happened to hit it when it was giving a terrorism update. this woman is talking about fighting in syria over the weekend. sinclair's coming under fire for forcing local television stations to run content like that. the president says sinclair is far superior to other networks.

today it's going to be perfect for baseball weather. we're going to see temperatures climbing into the 60s for san francisco right now. waking up to 40s and 50th. san francisco also at 49. here's a look at your microclimate highs for today. we'll be climbing nicely into the 60s. expect a high of 62 degree and mostly clear skies. into the evening we'll get a little bit of that cloud cover, but san francisco expecting a high of 73. here's a look at doppler radar. not a lot going on. we've got pretty good weather in the bay area. just off the coast we're seeing that atmosphere is river effect. what that's going to do is move in on thursday night into friday and i just want to take you very quickly now. i want to emphasize this can quickly change. so we're pretty far out but we want to give you an idea. the rain estimate. friday night into saturday, 1 to 3 inches. because of sierra's snow, it

could melt a lot. it means concerns for localized flooding and as we head into saturday and sunday morning we've got a cold front moving in and it could produce a come of inches of snow. we have storm rangers up there ready for the storm. here's a quick like at the next seven days. plenty of sunshine and cloud cover as we head in toward tomorrow. mike, a calmer commute. >> that's right. there's the north bay. the entire north bay route shows no delays for our sensors. over here. only less than 25 minutes from highway four down to the berkeley curve. typical out of the north bay. the rest shows a smooth flow of traffic. here at the bottom of your screen, there's a crash on the shoulder now. coming out of the south countying minor delays coming in. typical. clearing by the time you get to morgan hill.
