we are live at youtube )s headquarters in san bruno where right now at 5:00, we are live at youtube's headquarters in san bruno where the city's police chief just spoke moments ago after a woman opened fire on the campus. this morning we continue our live coverage right now on "today in the bay." good morning. and thank you for joining us. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. we'll get to the latest developments on youtube in a moment but also want to get to the forecast that's impacting your commute. maybe node today but tomorrow and your weekend as well. >> definitely will. today is the last dry day in the bay area, and as we head into tomorrow, a portion of our day, but it's definitely going to come in the form of pretty widespread rainfall. right now your temperature for san francisco is starting in the 50s. fairly mild. if you notice, we're going to see an increase in cloud cover and temperatures again in the

60s and the 70s throughout the bay area. we'll be topping out with seasonable temperatures but i'll break that atmospheric river down to you but first over to mike. >> all right, vianey. a great drive. river of green. at the speed limit throughout the bay, looking over here towards live cameras as well. a little slowing registered on the big map right around 23rd approaching from the colosseum and that's right where they have the overnight construction crews. gesundheit! and we typically see this, like yesterday. and you see flashing lights there around the curve. gets you oriented. over here, no delays. take the b.a.r.t., a nice ride for any listed on the map for the longer commutes out of the valley and sacramento. and over here, the bridge, a couple vehicles. look at that tanker truck. back to you. >> 5:01 now. a developing story out of san

brawn bruno following the shooting at yew it pube headquarters. the focus is on a woman, nasim aghdam injured at least three people before turning the gun on herself. investigators are looking at a 39-year-old just hours before that attack a possible motive. "today in the bay" is live at youtube's headquarters. sharon, you spoke with police moments ago. what are they saying this morning? >> reporter: right. the police chief spoke to the reporters, and basically he's saying you can see that san bruno police officers are still here on-scene, but they have handened the bui eneene eneened youtube. their meeting canceled for today and most of them redirected for the next few days to different campuses. the police chief spoke to us just moments ago. >> -- but we are -- our

group wrapped up about two hours ago. we turned the building back over to youtube. we're done inside. collected all the evidence. the building is back in the hands of youtube. >> reporter: are they allowing workers back in today? >> i think they're going to -- my understanding, the building will probably be closed a couple days. i don't know exactly what they're plan is. i believe they're directing employees to other campuses. >> reporter: a possible motive? we learned more about the suspect? >> yeah. so, yeah. the direction we're pointed based on the facts that we know is that the -- the suspect in this case had some type of problem or concern with the practices and policies of youtube, and we believe that because she was upset, that was her motive. as far as peeg dwbeing definiti she was upset and what caused her to do that, we still have a long way to go. >> reporter: as far as

yesterday, mountain view police also contacted her at about 2:00 a.m. yesterday morning, and the san bruno police chief doesn't want to comment about that, but there were details that the family notified the police department after they found her on a missing person's report out of southern california that they warned mountain view police that she could be dangerous and heading to youtube, but the mountain view police department said they could not do anything about that. the san bruno police chief, though, emphasizes if anyone seeing any warnings like this from family, co-workers, they should report it to police immediately. now, this investigation has wrapped up here at the crime scene, but the suspect's car was taken away, and the police chief says that they will still collect evidence out of that car and federal investigators have been called in, but so far this is still considered a local investigation. reporting live in san bruno for

"today in the bay" is at sf general this morning, we know some of the victims were rushed there and a lot of folks wondering how they're doing this morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, kris and marcus. we are on standby with san francisco general hospital officials for an update on those victims. at last check they were brought here. one male victim in critical condition and two female victims in fair to serious condition. i want to play a clip of that 911 call moments after shots were fired. >> i have shots fired, 901 cherry avenue. 911. so far nothing seen. heard only. one statement people are running out of the business. >> reporter: more than 1,000 people running from youtube headquarters in san bruno, running for safety after shots were fired at the youtube

headquarters in that patio area. that shooting causing a massive response by law enforcement in that area, and our crews are on-scene as the chaos unfolded and spoke with a man at a nearby carl's jr. when that shooting took place. >> pop, pop, pop-pop-pop-pop, i'm like, what's going on? i stood up. i see people just running out of the building. >> reporter: inside of that carl's jr., one of the victims actually ran there for safety, and a worker stepped in to help her out. we'll have details on that in the next half hour. live at san francisco general for "today in the bay." >> thank you, pete. feel follow this all morning long as well. we also, though, have new details on the marine helicopter crash near the u.s./mexico border. the navy is now working with investigators to figure out what caused that chopper to go down tuesday afternoon. the four crew members aboard that helicopter are now presumed dead. that crash happened near el

centro, knee a naval air facility. the marine corps says the crash happened during a routine training mission. happening today, a large-scale rescue operation is underway for three missing children in that mendocino county crash. this is a map of the area rescuers will be searching. roughly 30 miles near westport. the crash happened last week. police believe the car was deliberately driven off of that cliff. the bodies of the parents and three children have already been recovered. a live look at capitol hill, where in washington this morning perhaps there's a new sense of clarity about the direction that that russian probe is taking. at least when it um cans to president trump. according to the "washington post" a special counsel already indicated president trump is not considered a criminal target. however, robert mueller still wants to interview the president, and the "post" says trump's legal team is weighing

whether or not to comply with mueller's request. the president is eager for a sitdown and sees the latest news as a good sign, but other folks are not so sure. >> it's not that, oh, thank goodness if you're in the white house, the president's not a criminal target. it's, oh, my. the president is a subject of this investigation. >> this news is news. and it's certainly delighted and relieved the president. >> in the meantime, the president continues his tough talk on immigration. yesterday he threatened to send military troops to the border until his planned border wall is built. our scott mcgrew will have a closer look in his "checks and balances" segment at 5:45. >> it's 5:08 right now. in the bay area, taking public transit, going to the golden gate bridge, the vita parking lot closed to drivers through saturday. starting at 11:00 this morning to 5:00 p.m. each day,

transportation officials are closing the parking lots, because they're expecting lots of spring break traffic there. we'll see about that. especially when talking about intense rain headed towards the bay area through tomorrow and into friday and saturday. so let's talk about that 24-hour temperature change. now, we are seeing a couple spots running slightly warmer at this hour than yesterday. san jose, 5 degrees warmer. remember, an approaching subtropical system which means it's going to get hotter and muggier feeling around here because of that tropical air. hayward running about 5 degrees warmer. and in santa cruz, 8 degrees warmer. temperatures still in the 40s and 50s for the most part. the temperature trend remains seasonable, meaning one more day of climbing into the 60s and some 70s on the map. a high of 68 degrees by 1:00, san jose seeing a predicted high of 72, 73 degrees throughout the bay area and then we begin to see an increase in the cloud

cover. notice we're expecting a lot of that cloud cover compared to those mostly clear skies with a couple low clouds we saw yesterday. i'll break that incoming storm down, first, check in with mike. >> vianey, visit a shot i showed a few minutes ago this time with brake lights visible and now starting to clear. north 880, north of the colosseum. the map shows that same zone basically from about high street up to 23rd. the northern fringe showed improvement. starting to clear that overnight construction. a brief traffic break removing the equipment and maybe adding five minutes on to your morning commute. we all try to cut it very close, just a warning. over towards the south, slow traffic. same thing for the altamont pass for 580 westbound. and in dublin a good amount of traffic on the roadway just going at the speed limit. here, not a lot of cars. across the golden gate bridge from the north bay, easy drive into the city. back to you. >> thanks, mike.

or your day you'll notice we're running a couple degrees warmer at this hour than yesterday. 54 degrees in san jose. 53 for san francisco and up to some 40s in the north bay. i'll talk about your daytime highs but will break down the timeline and expected rainfall totals so far for the incoming storm coming up. and looking at the tri-valley times. a little delay involved. slowing. a delay all the altamont, west 580 does have a good amount of traffic flowing at the limit of livermore. and just 15 minutes through that construction zone clearing right around 23rd and 29th. no problem getting towards the "daybreak." bay bridge. and breaking news this morning. we just received word mark zuckerberg will testify before congress, the house energy and commerce committee. on april 11th. on a wednesday. this, of course, sparked by the revelation facebook shared personal information of 50

million users to analytica. and hundreds of losses on the dow at the open as the u.s. and china name more products. each company will tax. we talked about a trade war. this is the start of the trade war, and the moving quickly. just hours after the u.s. announced tariffs on chinese goods, new tariffs, this time to punish china on technology policies, china fired back with new tariffs on our goods, including bigger tariffs on cars. that's more bad news for bay area tesla. yesterday it says it was not able to make as many model three sedans as it had hoped. it sells a lot of cars in china. we talked in the past how often tesla misses goals it sets for itself. so do watch tesla stock today. spotify debuted tuesday ending the day at 149.01. no daily change. that comes tomorrow. normally you see the founders of

a company ring the company bell on the day they debut their stocks. spotify did not. the company said it didn't want to. team coverage this morning of the shooting at youtube and our thoughts go out to the employees and their family, but kris and marcus, you can see the courtyard where it happened. you showed this video, similar to courtyard in several high-tech campuses. i won't name them, but i think you can guess them in your head. silicon valley is built on campuses and the whole idea of campuses. in this age of gun violence, it may be something they need to rethink. >> very open space. i've been to one of those. very open. >> you can -- tourists walk in, i'm at whatever campus. that may have to change. >> definitely something a lot of folks will be talking about in the days to come. thank you, scott. >> you know, it's just a day after that shooting at youtube's headquarters. parent company google is preparing for abortion rights demonstrations today. google is caught up in a scandal earlier in the year reportedly

directing women to anti-abortion centers when they search for places to get an abortion. abortion rights activists will be following a google bus route across san francisco while protesting the company. >> happening today for a third straight day, classes are canceled for students all across oklahoma. the whole state. tens of thousands of teachers continue to walk out of their classrooms. yesterday they swarmed the state capitol, and last week oklahoma lawmakers did approve the first teacher raises in a decade, but some teachers sat down with nbc news to explain why that recent pay hike is still inadequate. >> i'm embarrassed. i have a daughter in college and still paying off my own student loans. >> for me a life or death thing. hate to say it. as a father of three and married, i can't afford to put my wife under my health insurance. >> the state's ten largest school districts will not be open. to students, though, some students are there with their teachers showing support. we want to get now over to

north bay. temperature trend, notice, yesterday's icons, sunny. past the low and high clouds. now we expect the clouds to really kind of stick around all day long. by about 1:00, 68 degrees for san jose. san francisco expecting similar conditions as well. overcast skies with peaks of sunshine. there might about moment where you start to see the sun begin to creep out. ow daytime highs will once again be seasonable. high of 73 for san jose. palo alto 72. half moon bay, 62 degrees. the incoming system. still seeing subtropical moisture well offshore. as i mentioned, the models still showing making its arrival thursday. rain estimates totals predict one to three inches as the storm system makes its way in tomorrow night into friday and into saturday. we've got two systems interacting right now, which means as we head in towards friday night, going to clash with the cold front. low pressure system. that will kick up winds on

saturday. saturday's daytime will kind of be more of a wind/shower event over the next seven days. also notice a decrease in temperatures. if you notice, going from 70s back down to some 60s as we head in towards the weekend. now let's go ahead and check in with mike. >> easing right into the commute, vianey. lighter volume, lighter build as we've seen for much of the week. the last couple of weeks actually. really this week because a lot of schools we've talk and converged on the same week for spring break this year. looking at northbound 101. no slowing through san martin and morgan hill. and highway 17 looks great over the summit now. it's dark. be careful. mind the speed limit. over here, minding travel times, we don't mind. southbound 880 passed the dodum bridge. and showing traffic flowing great at the limit from novato

state lawmakers are pushing to in the wake of the stephon clark shooting, california state lawmakers are pushing to change the standards that officers use to decide whether to use deadly force. family members proposed a bill yesterday. it restricts officers to open fire only when necessary rather than when it seems reasonable. lawmakers say the goal, encourage officers to diffuse confrontations or use less deadly weapons. a san francisco community has been pushing for this day for quite some time, and in a few hours, the city supervisor will reveal the new name for the street in the balboa park neighborhood. neighbors have been pushing for the renaming of the avenue near city college nap street is tied to former mayor james delaine known for his anti-asian and anti-immigrant policies. among the names considered is

frida carlo way. >> that would be nice. and helping children with excessive weight gain. kids heavier by the age of 3 and obese by the age of 8 are most likely to have damaged livers. previous studies focused on fatty liver disease in adolescent children and young adults, never kids that young. a new treatment could have people who suffer from chronic seizures. >> the treatment is a device called rns implanted in the skull. we followed one epilepsy patient after brain surgery failed to work and has been nearly seizure-free since getting the device. >> when the device detects a seizure is starting, it stimulate an alelectrode to sto the seizure from occurring.

all of those nice seasonable temperatures. the temperatures will be rather comfortable. by about 10:00 a.m., at 50 degrees. by 12:00, climbing into the upper 60s and san jose expected to hit a predicted high in the 70s. keep a close eye on the comfortable temperatures. again, the last dry day before that incoming storm system. a good chance to get outside before the rain moves in. check in with mike. >> vianey, two changes in the reports for the east bay. first, babup of the bay bridge. metering lights on. on schedule. and very gradual build here. in fact, very light around much of the bay. you see all the green speed sensors including the maze and approach. as well as the incline and bay bridge toll plaza as we showed you. a crash at southbound 880. the activity isolated, sounds like someone crossing the street, perhaps a pedestrian might be involved. i'm tracking that and will let

you now how that affect you getting into san leandro. headlights towards the south bay. back to you. >> thank you. 5:31. to the story rattling nerves across the silicon valley and bay area. so many questions still unanswered after a woman opened fire at youtube headquarters in san bruno. >> what we know at this hour. that suspect is dead. police say she killed herself as they moved in. three victims are in the hospital. that shooting unfolded a little before 1:00 p.m. yesterday at youtube san bruno campus. within the last hour, police confirmed that campus will remain closed today. >> we are covering all angles of this developing story. "today in the bay" is at the hospital where the victims are being treated and we begin with the youtube campus in san bruno. you talked to the police chief not long ago. what did he have to say this morning? >> reporter: that's right, kris and marcus. the police chief was out here

earlier this morning. you can see the san bruno police officers are still here on-scene this morning. the police chief said the for instanceices unit wrapped up about a few hours ago. so the youtube headquarters building has been officially handed back to youtube but the streets are still closed off. also we're told employees are hearing all meetings for today have been canceled, and the employees are being redirected to other campuses. as far as a motive, investigators say the suspect's family said she "hated" youtube. several law enforcement sources confirmed this is 39-year-old nasim aghdam in youtube videos. in one video she complained youtube discriminatened and filtered hoar content. that youtube placed an age restriction on a workout video because they were too racy, but youtube failed to do the same with miley cyrus, she says, and

nicki minaj videos. her car towed away from the crime scene. yesterday morning, a missing personal report. mountain view police confirm they found her asleep in a car in a parking lot. the family say they warned police aghdam might do something at youtube but police told them there was nothing they could do. >> we're still sifting through a lot of evidence and a lot of evidence we don't even have access to that hopefully will provide us with a more specific or clear picture to definitively say. >> a this is what she was upset about and, b, this is why. >> reporter: around lunchtime yesterday aghdam opened fire on the youtube campus wounding three people and then killing herself, and at the top of the hour, more on those youtube videos and the possible motive in this case. reporting live in san bruno for "today in the bay." >> sharon, thank you. and "today in the bay," mark

zuckerbe zuckerberg -- how are the victims doing? >> reporter: no updates. at last check, three of the victims were sent here to san francisco general behind me. one male victim in critical condition. two female victims in fair to serious condition. i want to show you this picture. one of the victims shot in the leg from when she went in to the carl's jr., a nearby carl's jr. for help after -- one of the victims in that youtube headquarters shooting in san bruno and our crews were there to talk with someone who helped her out. >> we grabbed napkins. threw it on her leg. one guy gave her a t-shirt, other brought out rubber bands, bungee cords trying to wrap it up. >> reporter: those workers stepping up big time there. as diners helped this woman,

we're told police officers arrived and found another gunshot victim at the front entrance. police say the shooter, nasim aghdam shot and killed herself. you can see a shattered glass door and evidence markers on the ground as police and the fbi processed the scene. investigators found aghdam's car parked in a dirt parking lot across from youtube's parking garage and it was towed away. workers fled the area, you can see. more on that and the 911 call moments after shots were called in the next half hour. live at san francisco general for "today in the bay." >> back out to youtube's headquarters in san bruhn ono. go to our website for more. san bruno police will hold a news conference at 9:00 this morning to update the media on the investigation. nbc bay area will be there, and we will bring a special report to you both on-air and on n

nbcbayarea.c nbcbayarea.com. at 5:35 right knew, continuing coverage, though we don't have actual verbal confirmation yet, it appears the crown prince of saudi arabia arrived here in the bay area for a highly anticipated visit. last night, extra tight security at the four seasons hotel in east palo alto along with a long line of parked black suvs and we saw the green saudi arabian flag flying there. one political science expert ex speculates the prince will immediate with silicon valley heavyweights. >> just like it's normal to go to the national capital, now the tech capital, right here. >> the crown prince is expected to stay until saturday and expected to take a trip to los angeles at some point.

reportedly outrage with the new election map. council members this week approved a new map combining the cities district mostly la 250ti with mostly nearby white neighborhoods. they've been pushing to be moved to a separate district. the new map will take affect in the 2020 election. and home of the warriors, where the playoffs are now right around the corner. at 2:00 this afternoon, clear your schedule, because playoff tickets will be made available to the general public. maybe take a long lunch, because warriors of the second seed in the west. you'll need playoff tickets. last night in oklahoma city, warriors looking solid against kevin durant's former team. k.d. led the way with 34 points. again, you only have a couple hours to get your credit card ready.

tracking that river that may creep into the area, but right now the system is still on tap to make its way on thursday. widespread friday. another system, a cold front that is going to interact picking up winds saturday. means, gusty. especially saturday morning. plans to be outside between 1:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., gusty. meaning that sideways rain, the biggest impact, heaviest rainfall may come at that time. now the good news now, models are showing the system making its exit saturday night, which means it may clear out just in time for you to enjoy a dry sunday. we're going to cross our fingers on that one, because the timing intensity changes are ongoing as of now. 62 degrees for your expected high along the coast. basically inland, 65. temperatures running slightly cooler. because of that incoming cold

good morning. it is 5:42, and we're off to another dry and a slightly mild start. a live look over san francisco. expecting an increase in cloud cover. temperatures remaining seasonable but all ahead of an incomes storm. i'll break it down coming up. looking at a great view. yeah, highway 37 slowing west out of vallejo. standard traffic near the island. no real problems towards the bay bridge but metering lights are on. a more extensive look at the commute coming up. >> thank you, mike. new this morning a florida teenager many call a hero. taking the first time to talk about the utter nightmare in the parkland high school shooting rampage. >> anthony vorhez blocked the door and then struck by five bullets and nearly died. >> why does you decide to block the door?

>> because i think i was going to die. so -- i should block the door. >> reporter: you thought you were dieing that day? >> yeah. >> nbc's kerry sanders sat down with vorhez and hits father. you can watch the entire interview during the 8:00 hour of this morning's "today" show. and the president tweeted. >> america will take action today to stop illegal immigration. scott mcgrew, it's not yet clear what that action really is. >> rear awaiting clairification. congress still in recess. whatever it is, it will have to come from the white house. now, yesterday, president trump said he would use the u.s. military on the border. take a listen. >> we have very bad laws for our border. and we are going to be doing some things. i've been speaking with general mattis. we'll do things militarily, until we can have a wall and proper security, we're going to be guarding our border with the military.

that's a big step. we really haven't done that before, or certainly not very much before. but we will be doing things with mexico and they have to do it, otherwise i'm not going to do the nafta deal. >> now, the white house later clarified it will use national guard troops not the u.s. army and we haven't done this before. it is not clear. the president realizes putting u.s. troops on the border not that uncommon. both george w. bush and barack obama did it again, using national guard troops. the law says they is only assist, not participate in law enforcement. i talked to some of the california national guard who took part under president obama. they did a lot of work watching the border and radioing in to bord border patrol which is allowed to take action. president trump is worrying about 1,500 refugees making

their way through mexico calling it a caravan. that caravan stopped as mexican authorities try to figure out what to do. there's nothing in international law saying mexico has to stop hondurans or guatemalans from entering the u.s. president trump is concerned if the refugees make it to the border, american immigration law says we have to give them protection if fleeing danger, and that involves court hearings to determine they're status. president trump calls that a whole, big wasted procedure that has to take place. meanwhile, the "washington post" reports essential counsel robert mueller told president trump he is not the target of a criminal probe in the russian investigation, and that mueller still wants to answer -- have trump answer questions. the "post" says the president's lawyers worry that's a trick to get him to testify. for instance, the president may not have committed any crimes with russia, but afterwards, if he moved to obstruct the investigation. we look at what the president is up to each morning.

as we head in towards the later portion of this week. the top three impacts as far as rain totals will be anywhere between 2 to 4 inches for the santa cruz mountains meaning fast-returning rivers that could bring a threat for mudslides and of course talking fire burns, areas like the north bay, also bringing concern. tap that into the sierra snow melt concern. remember, a warm storm. subtropical moisture creating the atmospheric river. behind that a cold front that could develop some snow heading in towards sunday. travel conditions to lake tahoe aren't going to be good as we head in towards friday and saturday as well. rain estimates now, still expecting anywhere between possibly one to three inches. three inches are more expected possibly for the north bay. the color rain total index you can see up here. heading towards saturday morning, another impact you'll notice is the gusty conditions. let's talk about the sierra snow total. again, the initial warm system is going to melt a lot of this

snow, and that's going to kick up winds, but as we head in towards saturday into sunday, we could see a come inches of snow develop in the higher elevation peaks. next seven days what you can expect. last dry days today, notice a shift in the temperatures. we have 70s on the board. at least through tomorrow. rain develops far off to the north and we see that move in late thursday. widespread heavy rain into friday and showers expected to continue, but at least it's looking right now like they may move out to leave behind a drier sunday. there's some minor slowing that you're tracking, mike? >> very minor. have to look at it with a magnifies glass. alities here. not that much right here. kidding. looking at slow towards hayward. typical spot. lighter traffic. same for san jose. lit bits. exactly where you expect. not as severe as most weeks. southbound 101, speeds into the 50s. slower than you like but better

of the nbc news footage from the night dr. king was killed. that coverage included video from the night before king's death, when he spoke at the church in memphis and delivered an ominous impromptu address. >> we've got some difficult days ahead. but it really doesn't matter with me now, because i've been to the mountaintop. and, tracie, to hear his words, know that was just the night before he was killed really kind of makes you think. >> reporter: it really does. interestingly, in this exhibit, inside the national civil rights museum, one of the exhibits talks about the fact he haums didn't make that speech. he was exhausted, had been traveling, a bomb threat on his plane the day before. a lot going on inside the organization, and he wanted to stay at the hotel and rest. he sent the people with him out to the temple where that speech was happening. they got there. thousands were there. called, said you've got to get here, because they need to hear from you, and that was the last time we heard from dr. king. 50 years ago today an assassin's bullet ripped through the heart of america. >> martin luther king was shot and was killed tonight in memphis, tennessee. >> reporter: the young preacher

and what was today. >> reporter: the message today -- the fight is not over. >> we have not in 50 years dealt with as daddy challenged us to deal with the last vestiges of racism. >> reporter: a dream that did not die on the balcony outside room 306. now, we are told that room is just like it was the day that dr. king was killed. just like it was when he was staying here. now, today we're expecting, as i said, thousands of people to show up for a full day of speeches and performances and then at the end of the day, kris and marcus, a bell rings at 6:01 p.m. local time, the exact moment that dr. king was shot. >> i think he would be really proud of the young people showing such social activism right now, tracie. i think his legacy does live on.
