and right now nbc bay area is trac good thursday morning to you. it's 4:30 right now and nbc bay area is tracking a big, wet, incoming storm. we have been telling you about this for days now and that storm almost here. looks very clear. we are still tracking what's ahead. thank you for joining us. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm kris sanchez. vianey, is it getting bigger or staying the same? >> it's still on track in terms of being a pretty good downpour as we head into friday. in terms of rain totals, some areas have been diminished because of the time line when the system is expected to move

out. right now as you head out the door, the temperatures remain in the 50s. the temperatures aren't too bad. it's rather comfortable, 56 degrees in san jose. 54 for san francisco. also in the 50s for oakland. the temperature trend into today will once again climb into the 60s. you're going to notice a lot of cloud cover. the south bay will be one of the last areas to see that rain because that system looks like it's going to be moving initially from the north. i want to show you doppler radar. this gives you a good idea in terms of the system, where it's located and the time line. here it is. you can see we're still seeing that good plume of subtropical moisture, moving far off to the north. we'll start to see that hour-by-hour outlook moving north to south late near this morning. you can see it developing just off the coast there. now if i give you a rundown of what we can expect by 9:00 a.m. we'll see an increase in cloud cover, an area north of the golden gate bridge we'll start to see some showers earlier on.

by about 12:00 temperatures remain mild and muggy. remember, this is the warmer storm so it will feel very humid out there. overall that gives you an idea of what we're tracking. now we want to take a look at the roads. tomorrow the wet roads will make an impact on what we can expect. chp isn't reporting any major accidents and not a lot of folks out on the roads which is great news. you'll want to take time, the golden gate bridge is dry. a lot of fog out there. still, slow it down. remember, we're prepping for a wet storm as we head into friday morning. right in the middle of your commute. back to you. >> thanks, vianey. 4:32. that atmospheric river is expected to hit late tonight. parts of the bay area could see several inches of rain.

>> "today in the bay's" pete suratos is live in one of the first spots to get hit tomorrow. pete, what are crews doing to prepare for the rain? >> reporter: well, kris, here on 17th and folsom you'll see a good amount of flooding when that rain hits. initially we were told the flood barriers behind up at 8:00 a.m. they are already setting these up. the purpose of it you see that san francisco public utilities commission worker out here. those apartments there as well as nearby businesses because this is what's considered a low-lying area of the city. another place you want to keep an eye on when the storm hits is three hours up north it at the oroville dam. remember last year you had that crumbling issue that forced 200,000 people to evacuate their homes in the area. it's only been partially repaired. it could be put to work this

38-year-old nasim aghdam shot three people before then turning the gun on herself. police now say she went to a gun range prior to the shooting just hours before. and mountain view officers earlier that morning found her sleeping in her car when concerned family members reported her missing. >> she expressed that she was in this area wanting to relocate because of family problems and looking for a job. reviewing the officers' actions, i wholeheartedly stand by them and support them in their efforts that evening. >> two shooting victims were released from the hospital and the condition of the third victim is now upgraded from critical to serious. we will have a live report in the 5:00 hour. troubled former football star aldon smith faces a pivotal day in his ongoing legal issues. smith never showed up for court. now this is tied to two misdemeanor charges. the latest charges stem from his alleged violation of a court order to stay away from his fiancee prosecutors say he assaulted. a bench warrant goes into effect

if smith again skips his court date. in an nbc exclusive, sheryl sandberg will appear on the "today" show. she will sit down with savannah guthrie to talk about the growing privacy scandal. that scandal just grew wider with news that the data of even more facebook users was likely improperly shared. now the number is up to 87 million people. most of those people are in the united states and most of the data was connected to the 2015 presidential election. founder mark zuckerberg will speak on capitol hill next wednesday. yesterday he did hold a media conference call. >> not enough to give people a voice, but we have to make sure people are not using that voice to hurt people or to spread disinformation. >> zuckerberg says he's the best person to run his company even now. new security measures to protect users. >> 4:36. the suspects in the armed robbery investigation in concord are now in police custody.

this is video as officers surrounded a home with assault rifles last night. the victims told police he was sleeping on his couch when two men and one woman tried to rob him at gunpoint. he was able to call police and officers caught the suspect. coming up on "today in the bay," mishap at a software security company exposing the information of thousands of customers connected with two major companies. a look at what happened and whether or not you might be affected. you may notice a lot more vehicles on the road. we'll take a look at what's behind the uptick in car sales.

thanks eric good morning live at cnbc global headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street could see more gains at the opening bell following the massive turnaround yesterday. the dow swung more than 700 points from its low to its peak yesterday. it had been down 510 points after china announced possible tariffs on u.s. goods including soybeans and cars. they mounted a comeback after president trump's new economic adviser larry kudlow down played the odds of a full blown dispute with china. the dow ended up 230 points. the nasdaq rising 100 points to 7042.

delta airlines say some information may have been exposed in a data breach. less than 100,000 were affected. delta says details related to passport, government i.d. and sky miles information were not impacted. and nike's hr chief says the company needs to step up the hiring and promotion of women and minorities. a staff memo reviewed by cnbc, 29% of nike's vice presidents are women although the global workforce is evenly split. changes including targeted training programs. nike launched a review of its hr practices following allegations of inappropriate behavior in the work place. back to you, marcus and kris? >> thank you, eric. this next story i hadn't thought much about but maybe you've noticed new cars on the road. spring car sales did better than expected. people were in the buying mood for those trucks and suvs, as you see there.

today in the bay -- on this thursday morning. welcome back. it is 4:45 right now and you are watching "today in the bay" on this thursday morning. the calm before the storm. live pictures from the north bay right now where the s-curve is moving smoothly. >> take a look at the radar. you can see it right there, that rain coming straight for the entire bay area. vianey, you were telling us it will start out in the north bay. they will feel the first effects. >> they will be the first to see the showers. san jose has a chance of seeing a decent amount of rainfall. it doesn't mean the south bay can put away the umbrellas. hayward, 55. let me ask you, kris and marcus, does it feel muggy out there?

>> it does. do you see how puffy my hair is? >> we're tracking subtropical air, moisture, that will make it feel very tropical around here. your daytime highs, we're in the 50s. our daytime highs are running cooler than we've seen the past couple of days since the start of the workweek. observing, 65. san francisco predicted high of 64. san jose, 71. napa, 65. if you look at the outlook you see rain. it will be moving in. it's going to go from breezy to windy as we head into tonight. a wide picture, doppler radar, that rain developing off to the north. and here it is. that's that atmospheric river effect, that pineapple express we've been talking about, tapping into hawaii. and this is going to start moving into the mid morning, the north bay could see some of the showers which is why we have seven our storm ranger up and

running. we'll be moving this to a higher location. an hour by hour outlook to give you a better idea. mostly cloudy. it's mainly going to stay to the north. here is your time stamp right up there. thursday by 11:00 p.m. it will be slower moving down to the south bay becoming widespread by tomorrow morning which means it'll be right in the middle of that morning commute. so rain moves southward and then on friday we're really starting to see the winds kicking up which means widespread rain on friday. it doesn't look like we'll catch any big breaks from the rain. at moments into the evening san jose might catch a break. aside from that we will see the showers continue from friday into saturday. i want to take you to a comparison. right now if you notice this time line about 8:00 and we're going to see the more significant rain totals in the

north bay. over 3 inches expected for santa rosa which will be a cause for possible flood concerns. now let's give you an update on your traffic conditions. that's probably also because it's pretty early and it's rather dry out there. we are seeing some traffic building. metering lights may be on but it's early. i think this is all i need to confirm there's a backup. 580 to the richmond bridge, about eight minutes. westbound 92 to the san mateo about 13 minutes. calmer in the traffic department than the weather center. back to you. >> you get half a break. thank you, vianey. shocking new video of a driver narrowly missing customers after she drove through the pharmacy. did you see it on your screen?

a different angle. it happened yesterday morning in maryland. reports say she hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes. then she tried to back out making things worse almost hitting another person. no one was hurt. the immigration fight hitting the santa clara county sheriff's department. people were rallying outside in san jose yesterday. organizers say this violates the policy initiated. >> what i.c.e. will do is find out who is here and that's not what this country about. we fought so hard to put in place. >> organizers want sheriff lori smith to be held accountable. peninsula students are returning to school after
