make yourself feel good. >> i disagree with everything he said about me too, all of it. >> a survivor of sex abuse as a child, she told nbc bay area that she felt compelled to speak even though she was afraid. she found strength from the sap center crowd when she began cheering for her. >> that was so powerful for me because there were women in the crowd who were with me and i suddenly did not -- >> but the standoff with robbins didn't end there. >> why are you pushing back? i didn't tell you to push back. >> she told nbc bay area the pushing exercise employed by robbins felt more like a bullying session. she hopes the man who she came to seek advice from might be a little wiser now about what me too really means. maybe tony robbins will learn something from his visit to san jose, huh? >> i hope so. >> tom jenson, nbc bay area news. >> now to the major fire at

7:17 am
there. one neighbor says that stretch of road has had problems for about a decade. all right, it's time now to check in with our sunday forecast. and we should enjoy this while we have it, huh? >> we're going to get a little break from the rain. that's the good thing. i've been teasing ahead for that rain but you know what's also on tap. warmer conditions. right now outside we're seeing a couple of clouds here and there. this is a live picture over san francisco. and we're still expecting to keep some of that cloud cover at least through the afternoon but it's going to get a lot better especially as we head in towards tonight and into tomorrow morning as well. now, if you can imagine, the temperatures have been running a couple of degrees cooler because of the passing of that cold front. but now, it looks like the conditions are going to be actually a lot warmer around this time than what we've seen the past couple of weeks. the reason for that, now we've got high pressure dominating in the forecast and that's going to clear out our skies quite nicely
7:18 am
and warm us up by 10 degrees. and so far right now we're definitely seeing a lot of clearer skies but your daytime highs expect 60s and even 70s further inland areas. especially as you head in towards ant tee of course, you'e going to be enjoying today's daytime highs. as we head in towards tuesday, we're tracking another system and that's what i've kind of been keeping my eye on. you can see here we've got just a little bit of haze out there but not too much fog. it's been a fairly nice in terms of clear from the fog cover but as we head in towards tuesday, we are tracking an incoming system and for now it's looking like it's going to bring a couple of showers and very insignificant rainfall totals, a tenth to quarter inch as we head towards tuesday night. clear out nicely on wednesday and then throughout the bay area, you can see this nice shot of downtown san jose as that sun comes up. we're tracking a warming and drying that will remain through
7:19 am
tuesday and then as we head towards wednesday we get another disturbance coming in and what that's going to do, that's going to kick up the chance for showers once again. not just for the south bay but also san francisco as well. as we head in towards the later portion of the week, our temperatures are expected to kind of climb back up to seasonable in the 60s and 70 aegs and that's and that's going to make for a big change in the weather pattern. people are saying, we're in spring, where are the spring temperatures? tomorrow it will be in the 80s for inland spots. a lot of people get back to work on a monday but at least you don't have to drive in the rain. as we head in towards tonight and into tomorrow, the temperatures will remain fairly mild overnight as you wake up in the morning. you can also expect to see kind of a nice clear conditions, not a lot of cloud cover into tonight. we have a nice shot here of the bridge. you request see folks are pretty very happy they are not dealing with a slick commute this morning, especially with what they had to deal with the past
7:20 am
two or three days or so. as we head out towards the middle of the week, we're going to track those showers and unfortunately this one looking like it's taking aim once again to the north bay but the good news is nowhere near as much rain as what we have been seeing the past couple of days. i'm going to send it back to you. >> all right, looks good. it is 7:20. still ahead on "today in the", pay attention to fine print, a new warning what you may be sharing when you download apps to your phone. we'll show you how to protect yourself next. this morning... a

7:23 am
of us. >> we're all guilty of it, downloading app, granting them permission to snoop on us, no questions asked. what personal information are they really collecting. >> come inside my office, i have my team gathered, this is olivia and that's jamie, we have our phones out and downloading popular apps but we've gone a step further, we have gone online and downloaded the privacy statement and policies and terms of service, it's pretty thick, the stuff you don't read from these different apps. i downloaded the netflix app and here inside the the privacy statement, name, e-mail address and telephone number. here's the information they collect automatically. information regarding your computer or other device, used to access our service and time and reason you contact them and

ip address which gives them locations just from going on netflix. >> but most disturbing of all, this, buried deep in the netflix security section. unfortunately no measures can be guaranteed to provide 100% security. we cannot guarantee the security of your information. now it's olivia's turn. you're downloading a game. >> just downloaded candy crash. we have to go through 34 pages to find out what they are collecting about us, 34. >> per game and you have to go to page 22 to find out what they are getting from you. >> they are getting your type of device you're using and how you play the game and other games and apps on your phone. >> not just candy crash, now they know the other games and apps. >> if i keep going, using it through facebook or something like that, the attributes about myself, general, general location and all i want to do is crush candy. >> the next app surprised us the most, starbucks.
7:25 am
>> 14 pages of starbucks privacy statements, according to terms, they access information directly from your device such as information in your contacts. >> inside your phone, your contacts list? >> they can get my contacts list. web pages i'm looking at, just from my starbucks app. and my gps information. >> and it's not just information about you, starbucks says if you send a friend a gift card it can collect info about your friend too. >> buyer beware with ang app, any app, it will try to get as much information out of you as possible and it's up to you to minimize that amount of data. >> that was jeff rossen reporting. many apps say they collect this information to personalize customer service. the best advice is to spend a few minutes looking at the policies for each app you have. if candy crash has 34 pages, it
7:26 am
takes more than a few minutes. it is 7:25. much more ahead. a wild ending to, the new hero in giants -- >> what are customers telling you? >> that the city is filthy, they don't want to be there. >> trash, needles and feces are scaring away bay area businesses, coming up, we'll show you how san francisco's diseased streets are create ago a financial mess.

good morning, thanks for we're taking a live look outside, beautiful shot of the san francisco bay from emeryville. you can see the sun is shining there. a little preview of the beautiful weather we have in store today. good morning, thanks for joining us. we have a look at our microclimate forecast and boy, i'm glad yesterday is over. >> it's over and it's out of here, the storm has passed and beautiful day.
7:29 am
we have temperatures in the 50s and we're still seeing some cloud cover in different spots. 52 degrees in the south bay, 51 for the peninsula. but all in all, look at san francisco, got a couple of clouds out there. the north bay 45, east bay 50 degrees and the temperature trend does show quite a nice climb into the 60s and even some 70s on today's map. now this is going to set us up quite nicely for what to expect into tomorrow. believe it or not, we're going to be running 10 plus degrees warmer in some spots as we heads in towards monday than what we've seen. above seasonable temperatures and high pressure will dry us out quite nicely and we have a system but i will say this, it's a weaker system so i'm not too concerned about it washing out any of the days of the week bt l i'll give a complete rundown. >> we shouldn't be surprised. any time we get rain, it's followed by sun and more rain. >> april showers. >> this is just it. we look forward to the may

flowers. thanks. the rain has cleared up but communities hit hard across the bay area are still cleaning up. this is what it looked like at the nursery in belinas. we also have pictures of flooding in a home just a couple of doors down the road. >> trying to -- the creek has gone down low enough where i can pump the water back into the creek. >> all along state route 1 there were warning signs and lots of standing water, caltrans crews work to clear rocks and debris caked across the road. this video by the recreational doesn't show a water fall. it is actually runoff that destroyed a parking lot at the beach. >> it got eroded with the rain that fell and we lost about 150 feet of asphalt. >> visitors could still get to
7:31 am
the beach but not the parking lot. that area will remain closed through today. visitors could only get a distance r distant view of the popular area. it was closed because of the storm. park rangers say they'll do a walk through this morning to determine if it's safe to open. also, yosemite may reopen after being hit hard by the storm. the roads in the area were flooded by 2 to 4 feet of water and its electrical system was damaged. rangers say if conditions continue to improve all roads leading into yosemite valley will be open by noon today. don't be the last to find out about the forecast. be sure to download our free nbc bay area app and monitor the changes before you head out the door. people living in one south bay neighborhood are rattled this morning after witnessing an overnight shooting. it happened around 1:00 a.m. near east san jose. first responders took one man to the hospital with gunshot wounds. witnesses tell us they heard seven to ten gunshots before a car raced away from the scene.
7:32 am
>> when i heard that, i walked over there and saw an individual on the ground and there were women there yelling and screaming, you know, call 911. >> san jose police are investigating what led to that shooting. we're learning new information about the victim of a deadly plane crash in petaluma on friday night. the pilot has been identified as colonel carl morrison of san diego county. the vietnam vet served 20 years in the marines and worked as a member of civil air patrol and ran his own law firm. he was flying out of petaluma to go back to san diego after conducting business in the north bay. the sonoma county sheriff's office did receive a distress call around 6:30 friday night but it took them three and a half hours to find the wreckage in that weather. the plane had crashed into a ravine near petaluma airport. the pilot had already died. the ntsb will be in the north bay today investigating the cause of the crash.

police have identified a body found near grisly peak in the oakland hills on friday. the coroner's office says officers found kim dead near a car that went over an em bankment. it was listed as being connected to a missing persons case but not clear if the person found dead near the car was the one who was reported missing. we have learned kim had recently visited her boyfriend who lived near the crash site. it's unclear exactly when she crashed. the investigation is ongoing. there is a multimillion dollar decision next tuesday in san francisco, it's all about cleaning up the trash, the feces and used needles on the street. should we spend tax dollars on extra cleaning crews and equipment? lawmakers will decide if this is an emergency for san francisco. many people believe that it is and here's investigative reporter. >> reporter: a recent
7:34 am
investigation in san francisco exposed how the city's diseased streets aren't just disgusting but dangerous. business leaders tell us some companies are looking to move elsewhere because san francisco is just too dirty. >> what are customers telling you? >> they are telling us that the city is filthy, they don't want to be there. >> hans han sen knows san francisco, a native and his job is luring potential businesses to the city. he owns a commercial real estate company and says nowadays his agents are having a harder time selling san francisco. >> what i consider probably the worst of times in terms of the city being clean -- >> the worst? >> the worst. you have a lot of people that have initially expressed interest to come out here and chose not to. they test the waters and you don't hear from them again. >> you've had business eveners back out of a location because of how dirty the area was? >> exactly. exactly. >> empty storefronts are pretty rare in san francisco.
7:35 am
but the number of vacant shops in the city has increased over the past year. the high cost of rent and labor are partly to blame but hanson believes the dirty streets and potential health hazards are making the financial mess even messier. kind of the last nail in the coffin, you will continue to see more and more businesses getting out. >> leaving san francisco. >> leaving san francisco. >> what are your thoughts about the city in terms of cleanliness and the impact on retail? >> hanson is president of san francisco's commercial brokers association, much recently invited 30 commercial real estate agents to talk about the state of retail, including san francisco's dirty streets. >> people have used the word cesspool. >> she has been helping businesses find homes in san francisco for more than 30 years. >> a lot of people that tour on behalf of larger brands are pretty appalled with the state of our streets. >> our investigative unit recently surveyed 153 blocks of
7:36 am
downtown san francisco, covering more than 20 miles. we found trash on every block. 303 piles of feces and 100 drug needles. >> it's an outcome of the poverty that we're not addressing on the streets. >> san francisco supervisor jane kim. >> we have to address homelessness and poverty and mental health but in short term, we can clean our streets. it is possible. >> kim now wants to use $2.5 million left over from last year's budget to pay for more cleaning crews and equipment. her spending plan would skip over the standard budget hearing process. and move normally reserved for emergencies. >> i think the state of our streets is an emergency and it has been for months. and we absolutely must be addressing this. >> we surveyed the board of supervisors and it appears kim has enough votes to get her proposal passed. >> i plan to support that plan, we're going to do it -- >> london breed is president of the board and happens to be kim's main opponent --

but this year the millennial generation is the nation's largest with 85 to 90 million members. they are poised to tilt the outcomes of numerous races. today in the bay's analyst joins us. i mean, what can i say? how are millennials so different from these other generations? >> this is a fun one. this really is. let's lighten up a little bit. they are different in lots of different ways. research shows that more millennials have university education and two or more jobs and greater stress than the rest of us, more high ers percentages support equality in the workplace and overcoming climate range and same-sex marriage than rest of us. despite the stereo types of millennials attached to their phones and other electronics, it turns out they are more engaged today than previous generations
7:47 am
when they were young. so all this is more than a little surprising, right? >> yeah none the less, they are teasing out this kind of data. >> aware that the millennials are important. they have a bad connotation, the selfies and that type of thing but i'm wondering at this point, they have these ideas on social and economic issues, how might they impact the outcome? >> that's what we're interesting in. for some time we've heard predictions that the 2018 elections would produce a blue wave leading to a democratic majority in the house of representatives and maybe even the u.s. senate. this kind of outcome will happen only if major portions of the voter universe either change their behavior, in other words vote differently than in the past or participate in numbers
7:48 am
well beyond expectations. now, if recent elections are any guide, we may see a huge increase in millennial voting this coming november. stemming from yes, stemming from their interest and involvement in political issues. >> but you said recent elections, what are researchers seeing that leads them to forecast this massive millennial participation? >> fair question. some data always helps. in 2014 the last off-year election, only 17% of young people participated nationwide. now, we look at the 2017 virginia governor's race and 34% of young voters participated. twice that of 2009, the election year there and more than 26%, another election year in virginia who voted in 2013. so in the december '17 alabama special election, young voerts
7:49 am
were 23% of the electorate, up from 19% in 2012. that's the last time young voters were reported. in that election, young voters chose this is really important, democrat doug jones over republican roy moore 62% to 38%. remember, jones won his victory by only 1.5%. so you put it together, these are data points. these two elections are important because they actually provide comparative data and show the phenomenal influence of yes, millennials. >> so is this a larger trend or is it just that millennials are coming of age politically so to speak? >> clearly millennials are behaving in ways we haven't expected but to your point, american society seems to be going through a political participation revival. this makes a guy like me very happy. it really does. since 2016, one in five americans have protested in political rallies.
7:50 am
