you can kind of still tell a little bit, right? >> some people haven't seen you for so long they don't remember. >> exactly. who is she? >> kari is back as well and nice weather today. >> it's going to be warmer this afternoon. we're talking about 70s and 80s for today. even though we do have a cool start, our sunshine warms things up and as we head into the day tomorrow it does cool off just a bit. but we'll talk about that. let's get throughout today in san jose. 8:00 at 57 degrees, quickly making it in the upper 70s and eventually hitting 83 degrees by later today. more sunshine in the forecast and we'll talk about that in just a few minutes. mike, you're tracking two bridges right now. >> to be clear i track all of your bridges but two have issues right now. westbound things slowing down right here halfway across that flat section. i showed you the flashing lights as the crew arrives, there's a crash possibly involving a motorcycle we're hearing about two or three other vehicles and there you go, looks like a first

responder heading over there as we well. quite an issue across the san mateo bridge. that's why we see the slowing past the toll plaza, that's 92. the dunbarton bridge and clear still the rest of the bridge but the bay bridge itself, second bridge we track with the earlier police activity. chp has pulled someone to the shoulder but no backup for the fast track lanes. >> it's 5:01 and continuing coverage this morning on the recovery efforts still under way in the north bay. this week marks six months since thousands of lives were changed forever as the wildfires disrupted communities. we're looking at the progress being made. pete is live in coffee park, one of the hardest hit communities, what's being done to prevent a tragedy from happening again. looking behind you there, they are starting to rebuild, pete? >> reporter: yeah, hard to believe it's within six months since the deadly wildfires hit

this part of the state. as you mentioned there is that recovery effort behind me you see this home being built and when you drive around coffee park you're starting to see that rebuild under way. as all of this is taking place, stay lawmakers are working hard to make sure folks are prepared in the event of a disaster of this magnitude one of the ways is through a state bill that's going to be a hearing about it taking place tomorrow on the state senate floor. what it would mean is that for first time in california history, it would require every county to adopt and up to date wireless emergency system with trained operators. the wildfires brought to light some issues when it comes to emergency protocols, the ability to handle so many callwise the widespread issues at the time of the wildfires as well as the lack of preplanned instructions to help people trapped in the wildfire. now as lawmakers work to keep the state prepared for next wildfire disaster, our crews did

speak with one napa couple who luckily were spotted by chp helicopter as they tried to escape their neighborhood back in october as it was engulfed in flames. here's what they are saying six months later. >> i look at my children and wife differently and such a way that i realize may not have seen them again. it's very, very important that i do that. it's just part of who we are now. >> as terrible as it was, that's my takeaway, that in the end we're all humans and we were all helping. as corny as it sounds, i think i have a renewed faith basically in people. >> reporter: a close call for that family like many other families during the north bay wildfires and as for that wireless emergency alert system, it's heading to the state senate floor tomorrow. pete suratos for today in the bay. >> 5:03, outrage and condemnation continues to pour

in following a suspected chemical attack in syria that killed dozens of civilians including children. we have to warn you that some of these images you're about to see may be disturbing for you this morning. the suspected poison gas attack happened in rebel held town on saturday. human rights group say the tactic amounts to a war crime. the president is calling out the syrian president. tracy potts is live in washington. who's to blame in this attack? >> we know this morning there have been missiles fired on an air base in syria. they are blaming israel for that. the u.s. saying it's not involved. as for the chemical attack, the president is blaming russia and iran and syria being behind that. the question this morning, what will he do? will he strike back? >> overnight, the pentagon denied air strikes are under way in syria after president trump blamed iran and russia and

promised big price to pay. over an alleged chemical attack saturday night in the city of douma, could the us attack? >> i wouldn't take anything off the table. >> reporter: images like this aid groups say dozens died and hundreds were hurt before now president trump wanted to pull america's 2,000 troops out of syria. lawmakers are urging him to get tough. >> the president is going to have to reconsider his plan for an early withdrawal -- >> got to send a message once again that what he said he meant. >> urging action against syria's air force. >> we should be able to do so at the relatively little cost and not requiring troops on the ground. if he doesn't follow through and live up to that tweet, he's going to look weak in the eyes of russia and iran. >> syria denies any involvement. russia calls it fake news.

tracye potts. new this morning, workers off the job accused much trying to have sex with a minor. the district confirmed overnight that ismale has been arrested. he works as a network engineer in the technology department. he's now on administrative leave. the district says the allegations do not involve any current or former students within the district. happening today the b.a.r.t. police sit zin re -- citizen review board meets, this comes in the wake of a deadly shooting, a b.a.r.t. officer shot and killed a man at the west oakland station. there have been demonstrations and protests in the months that have followed. san francisco sheriff is reportedly seeking more fundsing to equip jail guards with body cameras, will ask for $400,000 to cover that cost. a few jail guards have been

wearing them as part of a pilot program. the sheriff's department says tensions have deescalated ever since. >> today we're expecting to learn new information about a sexual assault and kids napping arrest in palo alto. police say 29-year-old eduardo diaz of richmond is now behind bars in connection to that crime. police say he pulled a teenage jogger off a bike path near dry creek road on march 28th. he allegedly put a gun to her head and then assaulted her. detectives believe he may have committed a very similar crime in oakland last march. we're learning new details about pleasant hill's first homicide in six years. it appears to be related to a marijuana robbery. this happened just after 11:00 saturday night. police say when officers arrived, they found a 23-year-old elroy of pleasant hill shot several times and later died at the scene. this happened near college park high school.

no one has been arrested. firefighters in east bay say that a small grass fire yesterday afternoon may have been initially set. it burned in martinez near gringer's wharf. no structures were threatened. >> now to the damage from last week's storm. a parking lot turned water fall at stinton beach, it's still closed there. gushing water erupted over the weekend. it's along state route 1. and it looks like the first real test of lake oroville's spillway have to wait. the spillway was prepared following last year's damaging storm but water did not rise to the dangerous levels. crews have to complete the spillway's permanent repairs and the state department leaders say it is safe to use if needed.

as we approach 5:09 on this monday morning. want to help you plan out the day if you have the day off, you're going to hit the links in the tri valley, it's going to be cool to start. you'll need long sleeves and a jacket through at least about 9:00. upper 40s to low 50s. by noon we're at 69 degrees, it's going to be a really nice day with quickly warming temperatures. and then if you're going out there to at&t park, the diamondbacks and giants, the game will be starting off at 7:15. and we're going to have nice weather out there at the park as well with a few clouds mixing in and dropping back into the upper 50s later on tonight. and we'll talk about some rain ahead in the forecast. mike, you have a big issue for the san mateo bridge. >> we're looking over here westbound, now slow, basically stopped past the toll plaza to mid span on the flat section. the crash involving a motorcycle reported there, a couple of other vehicles. i saw four squad cars head over

there for chp, a couple of ambulances have headed over as well. again with a motorcycle involved and reported at least two lanes are blocked. only three for traffic westbound. this is a big problem right now. a big early commute heading westbound across that san mateo bridge from hayward to foster city, the dunbart dsz on bridge clear and easy drive through fremont and newark to get across westbound 84. that's a great one. even the bay bridge is showing a smoother flow but the backup is starting at the toll plaza right on time. avoid the san mateo bridge and bay bridge starting a little backup. back to you. >> you can count the cars out there. thanks. coming up next, protecting your kids' privacy, the new allegations pitted against youtube, the way the site could be putting your child at risk. >> plus, cashing in on your commute, the ride share that could save you money on the way to work.

fargo. on friday the dow fell to 23,932 and nasdaq was down 161 to 6,915. nordstrom is taking on manhattan. opening its first full line location on thursday, a three floor men's store at 57th and broadway. to compete with online shoppers nordxstrom is combining cutting edge technology with old school service. you can fine a shoe shine service and digital screens showing off a custom made suit on the avatar of a shopper. if you need a tie at 2:00 a.m., you can order one online and an employee will immediate you at the store entrance. no matter the hour. apple will reportedly announce a new red iphone 8 and 8plus phone at the time. it's part of the company's partnership with red, the advocacy group dedicated to combatting hiv aids in after kaxt it's unclear when the phones will ship and no mention of a similar red phone 10.

a moment. you spring has sprung. you can wear the cardi b dresses. >> we'll be approaching temperatures in the 80s today? >> yes, it's going to warm up. a live look at san jose. we do see a little bit of light patchy fog in some spots and i wanted to take you throughout the day. our temperatures will be in the low 50s at 9:00. now normally we're at about 67, 68 degrees around the bay area but look at how warm it's going to be. it will be up to 77 degrees by 3:00 today in campbell and it's going to be warm with a mix of sun and clouds. let's get a look at our high temperatures today. it will be up to 78 degrees in santa rosa, oakland 74 degrees. 81 degrees in palo alto, san francisco will be at 71. and some lower 80s for san jose, 83 degrees. wanted to show you our next storm system. you can see the clouds and that

swirl there that's an area of low pressure. this will start to move in but it's a fairly weak system and as it gets here it starts to bring us scattered showers for the north bay by early tomorrow afternoon and then the rest of the bay area sees it as we go through the evening commute a quick round of rain and we'll see more rain moving in late wednesday night into thursday. this will come with slightly cooler temperatures and you can see that as you see that 7-day forecast at the bottom of the screen but it does warm up again for the weekend. there may be more rain approaching by early next week. we're going to have several storm systems moving in, none of these look really strong in showing you how much rain we may see. as we go into today as well as into thursday, we could see up to a half inch of rain for the far north bay, santa rosa up to about .04 inch and most getting a quarter inch between wednesday and thursday. if you're following me on facebook, you can follow my

more than 40 people onboard a new york bus are hurt. 5:25 for you. more than 40 people on board a new york bus are hurt. this was struck a bridge overpass on long island last night. most of those people were high school students returning from spring break trip. at least two people are seriously hurt. authorities tell our sister station that the driver was not familiar with the commercial vehicle restrictions on that road. >> remembering victims in las vegas, it's been more than six months since the deadly mass shooting at the concert. and sunday survivors and loved ones joined together at the healing garden on the las vegas strip. they released 900 butterflies to honor the lives lost. 58 people died and more than 800 others were hurt. >> this is a big week for u.s., canada and mexico in the joint effort to host the 2026 world

cup. fifa leaders plan to stop in all three nations to visit cities tied to the north american bid. that visit will come on the heels of a study commissioned by the fifa citing concerns abo about -- in june. they want to make it easier to build low cost housing units. council members will consider an ordinance that would ease new housing restrictions in the area within a half mile of a major transit stop. all of the housing units built would have to be below market. projects would still have to be approved by city planners. >> it's 5:26, watch your credit accounts, police are warning people to be vigilant of fraud. it comes after they noticed an uptick in crime recently. officers say they've received reports from people who say their credit card numbers have been scammed and used illegally

from what i remember you're saying it's going to be nice. >> really nice. last week we enjoyed sunshine for much of the week, as we start out this morning we're going to have some cool weather. i want to get you through the morning drive in the east bay. you'll have to crank up the heater to start. look at the upper 40s here but it does warm up quickly with a lot of sunshine. we'll be at 68 degrees by noon. i wanted to show you all of the high temperatures for today with low 80s for some of the inland areas and some 60s and 70s for the coast. now, mike, now you have a traffic alert? >> an official traffic alert and not what's behind me. this is not a sigalert or traffic alert. we're looking westbound 92. we have two of the three lanes open, now traffic slowly moving across that flat section because the traffic is building from the east bay as they are clearing a crash mid span, still one lane blocked in the commute direction. the dunbarton a much better drive. the rest of the bay shows a

pleasant drive. but the metering lights are turned on now and this is jamming up westbound 580. that's the traffic alert chp warns about one lane being blocked in the commute direction as everybody is coming in out of the altamont cory dor. back over to you. 5:31, in the hot seat, this week facebook ceo mark zuckerberg is preparing to testify before lawmakers, he's going to answer tough questions about how data of millions of users was obtained and used as a political weapon. in the meantime, also starting today, facebook will be contacting users who were affected by the scandal. today in the bay joins us live at the menlo park, facebook headquarters with how people will eventually be notified. good morning, sharon. >> reporter: good morning, laura, i've been checking my phone and haven't seen anything yet, supposedly later this morning it should be coming, the notifications to facebook users who were affected. now, ceo mark zuckerberg is expected to testify in front of

the senate hearings later this week. but today facebook users will learn more about the case. facebook this morning plans to send users whose personal data was used by cambridge analytica, they estimate 87 million were affected during the 2016 election season. the trump presidency campaign reportedly hired cambridge analytica but the company said it never used the data collected through facebook. the company reportedly took personal data that facebook users unknowingly provided through a survey. they say cambridge analytica was also able to access personal data from the friends of users, they are expected to start the testimony tomorrow. meantime the facebook users will try to figure out how to protect their own privacy. reporting live, i'm sharon k katsuda. >> 5:33, new this morning facebook suspended another data

analytics firm. they discovered the company used tactics similar to the ones used by cambridge analytica. the firm is cube view. it uses personality quizzes to help marketers find customers. when cnbc showed the quizzes and terms, facebook said it would suspend it spepending an investigation. six months to the day after the start of those devastating north bay wildfires and leaving all of this behind, so many of those families are still seeking help as they try to rebuild. 8900 structures burned during the fire diagnostorm, many of t homes. a lot of people are still trying to rebuild. this has been a hard time for them. we spoke to one couple trying to get past the permit stage as they negotiate with insurers and builders. >> we're getting a ph.d. in insurance and every time i read that policy i learn something new. >> many more fire victims have simply given up and now plan to sell their lots.

some renters meanwhile feel rates will skyrocket once the emergency control measures expire over the next few weeks. we've been posting content all on our digital platforms as we remember the lives lost six months ago today. this is just one of our tweets, follow us on twitter, face doos book and instagram. >> it is 5:32 and b.a.r.t. police credit the courage of one rider for helping save lives of two stabbing victims. the attack happened yesterday at the closed coliseum b.a.r.t. station in oakland. a mentally disturbed man with a knife followed two off a train and then attacked them near the fare gates. they say a fearlessled the susp disarmed. >> a courageous act intervened and grabbed the knife from the suspect and in the process his hands were cut but he was able to get the knife away from the

suspect. then he was able to tackle the suspect to the ground. >> what a hero. 32-year-old robert dole is now facing attempted murder charges. the good samaritan has not been identified. one victim is still in critical condition this morning. 5:35 right now. investigators are working to identify a body found in the same area mendocino county where two parents initially drove their suv off a cliff last week. it's believed that six adopted children were inside that vehicle. there are reports tourists found the body of an african-american female floating in the water near fort bragg over the weekend. authorities have been searching for three missing children following last month's crash. the bodies of sara and jennifer hart and three other adopted children have been found. >> new this morning, the cost of your commute, a live look at the morning drive in dublin and at the bay bridge toll plaza. this morning a new report details what drivers are paying the most for and it's not gas

but actually parking. >> bob redell is live with how much bay area drivers are actually paying. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, marcus and laura. comput commuters have it pretty good here, only charges them $3 a day to park in these spots. once you go across the bay bridge and into san francisco, you're going to see parking jump on average to $6 an hour, making san francisco the third most expensive place to park in the united states. this is according to a new study put out by a transportation analytics company. take a look at this graphic we put together. you can see on the tv screen, the most expensive places to park in the u.s. in order of most expensive, new york, l.a. and d.c., seattle, people in san francisco, spending on average annually $1700, just over that. anyone who has driven a car knows in s knows it can feel an

eternity to find a place to park. people spend on average 85 hours a year looking for a place to park in the city by the bay. if you look at it per day, it's 10 or 11 minutes which does seem like an eternity as you're going up and down those hills banging your hands on the steering wheel if you can't find a place to park. been through it many times myself. reporting live in dublin, "today" in the bay". >> a lot of time and money, right? thanks, bob. it's 5:37. palo alto leetd eleaders will c an unusual step to lower noise levels from airplanes flying above the city. city council members will consider filing suit against the faa. according to the palo alto weekly, city leaders believe it's been worst ever since the 2015 year when the agency actually changed some of their flight plans. all right, folks are

crawling instead of flying across major commute spots. along the peninsula you're doing fine. san jose hasn't built a commute yet. towards the san mateo bridge we're in recovery mode now chp says all lanes are cleared but just saw that change from orange to red, back and forth, we're toggling right there at 30 miles per hour at times across the span. here's a live look. the problem is although all lanes are cleared if you look closely as i do, we're looking westbound and there's flashing lights over on the right shoulder area. the service area and that's a distraction enough to cause the backup as the build happens right now across west 92. so use the dunbarton bridge instead. the dublin camera laura showed you shows a nice smooth flow of traffic through the shot because the crash i told you about, the traffic alert has cleared at north livermore. all lanes clear. folks are now coming out of the altamont pass without a problem. >> it's almost not friday --

>> it's almost -- >> close your eyes and cross your fingers -- >> friday. >> but on this monday morning, let's talk about it because i think people are already starting to make plans, right? >> why not. >> it's going to be a nice weekend. on saturday, take a look where we're headed into the low 70s for the coast and upper 70s for the inland areas and notice we'll see some sunshine on sunday, more of the same but slightly cooler. we'll see more clouds mixing in during the afternoon to evening hours but most of the day is looking good. 66 degrees for the high for the coast, 68 and 74 inland. if you're heading out of town this weekend, maybe going to santa barbara, we'll be at 72 degrees on friday. upper 70s by saturday but notice those clouds on sunday. still looking very nice though. if you're going farther north and lake shasta, it's going to be raining by the end of the weekend as another system moves in. we'll see it farther to the north first before it makes it into the bay area early next

so getting dressed this morning, maybe you're coming off of spring break heading back to work or school, it's a good way to start out with the jacket because it is chillingy but today later on as it warms up, maybe short sleeves or a dress. a wide view of the satellite imagery, showing clouds reaching closer to the coast. this is a fairly weak system and as it moves in will bring in scattered showers for the north bay by tomorrow afternoon and a quick round of rain for tomorrow afternoon and into the evening for the rest of the bay area. it will clear out for a little while but there will be more storm systems that could bring us the potential of getting a quarter inch of rain but first line of rain brings in a tenth of an inch or less. you do see more showers in the forecast for wednesday and also most of it wrapping up on thursday in time for a dry weekend. we will be warming up, upper 70s inland by saturday. mike, you're saying it's one important drive is now in

about three hours later. >> okay, so a weak from tomorrow is one of the most dreaded days in america. i'm talking about the deadline to pay your taxes and apparently millions of us are procrastinating, tax experts say if you waited until the last minute to do your taxes, you need to be extra cautious because e between now and following the deadline which is next tuesday. people tend to rush through all of that paperwork and then they are in a time crunch. it's more important to make sure you don't miss anything, including deductions that you're entitled to. if you ask for an extension, you still have to pay taxes you owe for 2017 by next tuesday. extension to file is not an extension to pay. so you need to pay your tax liability by the tax deadline. >> pay what you owe. the average tax refund, the last year was just over $2800. >> refunds -- gas prices have
