to the south. all lanes are reported open by chp, i see flashing lights on the right shoulder or service area. paperwork from an earlier crash. they are waiting for a tou truck from what i can tell. west 84 much better. even the bay bridge toll plaza is looking lighter despite the metering lights. the south bay has no major problems. one more crash into the area that would be southbound 880 at 92, a crash blocking the left lane for a short time i believe. tow truck should be able to quickly clear that from the southbound side. the northbound side of 880 through oakland without a problem and towards the backup at the bay bridge and palo alto on the peninsula side moving nicely past 92 and into san francisco. back to you. >> thank you very much. now at the top of the newscast i mentioned some police activity going on a little earlier this morning in south san jose. we have the new video to show you. officers were searching the area around sky way drive and monterey road near capitol

expressway. it happened at 1:00 this morning. so far however, police are not confirming who they were searching for or if the search was even a success. we're talking with police and as soon as there's an update of course we'll bring it to you. >> right now we want to look back over the last six months of the deadly devastating wildfires that swept through the north bay. this morning there's a long road to recovery. >> 44 people were killed in those fires, strong winds fanned the flames. 8900 structures mostly homes were destroyed. "today in the bay" live in the coffee park neighborhood. explaining what's being done to prevent another tragedy like this. good morning, pete. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus, there's still a long way to go for folks recovering after those deadly north bay wildfires and what we're standing is in coffee park where a number of homes were lost during the wildfires.

you see a structure of a home being rebuilt of course, it is the long way to go and you drive around here, not seeing too many of the structures, but state lawmakers are working to make sure the emergency protocols are in place in the event of a disaster for that magnitude. new state bill they are working on sb 833 and for first time in california history, it would require every county to adopt an up to date wireless emergency alert system that would have trained operators who can implement and evacuation order. the wildfires brought to light some issues when it comes to emergency protocols, including the inability for dispatch to handle calls and preplanned instructions to help people trapped in the wildfire. our crews spoke with one napa couple who luckily were spotted by chp helicopter as they tried to escape in october as it was engulfed in flames. here's what they are saying six months later. >> i look at my children and my

will discuss the role of the office of independent police audits. that meeting comes in the wake of the deadly january shooting. b.a.r.t. police officers shot and killed a man at the west oakland station. there have been demonstrations and protests in the months that have followed. it is 605. san francisco sheriff seeking more funding to equip jail guards with body cameras. the sheriff will ask for $400,000 to cover the costs. a few jail guards have been wearing cameras for the past few months as part of a pilot program. the sheriff's department says tensions have deescalated ever since. today we are expecting to learn new information about a sexual assault and kidnapping arrest in palo alto. police say 29-year-old eduardo diaz of richmond is now behind bars in connection to the crime. police say he pulled a teenage jogger off a bike path near dry creek road on march 28th. police say he then reportedly

put a gun to her head and assaulted her. detectives believe he may have committed a very similar crime in oakland in march. 6:06. developing this morning, we're watching for the next move against syria after a suspected chemical attack over the weekend. president trump meets with his cabinet and military leaders today to discuss the incident. tra tracie potts has the president's reaction and meeting with the united nations -- >> good morning, what's he going to do? that's the big question in washington and around the world. what is the response going to be to what the u.s. says was a chemical attack? now we've already seen a response this morning. the u.s. says they weren't part of that but syria argues that missiles rained down on one of their air fields this morning in retaliation for what allegedly happened. syria claims missiles from israeli f-15s like these hit the

air field early this morning killing more than a dozen people. russia also pointing fingers at israel, no comment from israel. the pentagon denies the u.s. was involved. it comes after a deadly chemical attack in the city of douma. president trump blamed iran and russia and promised big price to pay. does that mean the u.s. will strike back? >> i do expect savannah that the united states will order military strikes against targets in syria probably in the find countdown to the strikes maybe days or hours away. >> i wouldn't take anything off the table. these are horrible photos. >> reporter: images like this aid groups say dozens of people died and hundreds were hurt. new video this morning of what syria claims are rebel fighters and families fleeing by bus. before now president trump wanted to pull america's 2,000 troops out of syria. lawmakers are urging him to get tough. >> the president is going to have to reconsider his plan for

an early withdrawal. >> he's got to send a message once again that what he said he meant. >> urging action against syria's air force. >> we should be able to do so at the relatively little cost and not requiring troops on the ground. if he doesn't follow through and live up to that tweet he's going to look weak in the eyes of russia and iran. >> reporter: syria denies any involvement and russia calls it fake news. and an update overnight from the white house, the president on the phone with france's president emanuel macron and talking about the situation. the white house says they plan a strong joint response. back to you, marcus. >> thank you for that update. new this morning, martinez school district worker is off the job accused of trying to have sex with a minor. the district confirmed to us overnight ahmed ismael has been arrested. the district says he works as a network engineer in the technology department and he is now on administrative leave.

the district says the allegations do not involve any current or former students within the district. >> we are learning new details about the first homicide in six years. police now say it appears to be related to a marijuana robbery. happened just after 11:00 on saturday night. police say when officers arrived they found 23-year-old of pleas an hill shot several times. he later died at the scene. it happened on north drive near college park high school. no one has been arrested. now to the latest on the damage left behind from last week's relentless storm. this morning, a parking lot turned waterfall at stinson beach is still closed. the gushing water erupted over the weekend. this is along state road 1 between stinson and -- >> a look for you at the real first test of lake oroville's rebuilt spillway, will have to wait a little bit longer. they are more concerns that the

last storm would require at least a partial opening of the spillway which was required. now, following last year's damaging storm, that water did not rise to dangerous levels. crews still have to complete some of the spillway's permanent repairs. but state water department leaders say it is safe to use it if needed. right now at 6 to:10, it's clear and also very cool. let's take a live look outside in emeryville, no fog to worry about there. all clear as you head throughout the morning drive in the east bay. it's going to be in the upper 40s through about 7:00. and it does quickly warm up by noontime you're stepping out for lunch at 68 degrees and some spots will be much warmer. let's look at all of the highs today. reaching into the upper 70s from antioch and livermore. concord in the low 80s, we have

yesterday afternoon may have been initially set. it burned in martinez, this is near granger's wharf, no structures were threatened here. children's privacy advocates are filing a complaint with the federal trade commission today alleging youtube is violating laws aimed at protecting kids. >> for that and rest of our news before the bell we go to leslie picker leave from cnbc. >> wall street is set to open higher after stocks sold off on friday. the dow ended the session in correction territory on continued concerns about the potential trade war between the u.s. and china. we get data this week on inflation minutes from last month's fed meeting and earnings season officially gets under way with results from jp morgan chase, citigroup and wells fargo. on friday the dow fell 572 points to 23,932.

youtube is being accused of violating u.s. laws aimed at protecting children's privacy online. a coalition of nearly two dozen campaign groups are set to file a complaint with the federal trade commission today. the complaint alleges youtube is in breach of the law because it features a wide variety of programming aimed at children under 13 and allows advertisers to target kids. reports say youtube plans to release a new version of its kids app where parents can turn off computer generated recommendations and only see channels cureated by humans. apple will reportedly announce a new 8 and 8 plus phone today part of the partnership with red. the advocacy group dedicated to combatting hiv aids in africa. it's unclear when the new phones will ship. there's also no mention of a similar red iphone 10. apple watchers say it's an

spring break today and kids are heading back to school, might want to dress them in shorts today but also a jacket. as we look outside in dublin, it's a cool start as the sun sunrises and looks good. haven't had issues with fog this morning. you can check out the seven-day at the bottom of the screen. we'll have 80s for the inland areas today but it will be cooling off as rain moves in. today in san francisco, look for a high of 71 degrees, upper 70s for much of the north bay and in concord and san jose, 83 degrees. livermore today we're heading up to 79 degrees for an afternoon high and it's going to be a nice evening out there and at&t park if you're going to the giants game. first pitch at 7:15 and at 68 degrees. a few clouds rolling by overhead and quickly cooling, temperatures dropping down in the lower 60s by the end of the game. i wanted to show you clouds starting to stretch inland as we look at the wider view, the satellite imagery showing a very

weak storm system offshore. as this moves in, it will bring a chance of rain starting out tomorrow afternoon, mostly for the north bay and it continues to move in the north bay and south bay and peninsula. there will be more rain between wednesday night and thursday. when that moves in, it looks like it brings us about a quarter inch of rain and then it clears out for a couple of days and then will be tracking another storm system by the end of the weekend. so still looks pretty busy here over the next several days and we're not completely done with the rain just yet. but this rain looks once again fairly light up to about a half inch for ukia and much of the rest of the bay area about a quarter inch of rain or less. some people were like where were you kari. i was on a staycation with the kids. follow my adventures and you can see my pictures on facebook and get updates on the forecast which will be changing over the next few days. it will be cooling down as the

rain moves in but warming up in time for the weekend, making weekend plans, make sure you check in with me and i'll have more updates on that. as we head over to mike, you've had a few issues to track and update this morning. >> cthe maps are lagging so we try to clear those up as well. wire looking at the speed centers and those don't show much of a problem at least for the south bay and peninsula. we just changed from a crash icon to a lane block icon and that's what the latest information is. northbound 101 at holly one lane blocked, a little crash there, sounds like it's only affecting the shoulder, no major injuries, a big issue westbound 92, that crash cleared across the flat section and now westbound is recovering. the other crash cleared approaching 92. hayward towards foster city, much better drive now. the dunbarton seeing a few more cars but not a major issue. towards the bay bridge, the east shore freeway under 40 minutes from highway 4 to the berkeley curve. there's the oakland approaches

rises this morning, it's a beautiful start. we are about right now ten minutes, 6:31. ten minutes from sunrise, a cool start as we get our high temperatures today, it's going to warm up quickly. take a look at this, 71 degrees in san francisco and then you notice the rain won't be far behind. reaching in the low 80s inland today. as showers move in, temperatures will be cooling off. we'll talk more about this and only about the weekend in about seven minutes. mike, you have a traffic alert for the bay bridge? >> if fact, kari, i may have an update to the update. overall traffic flow is great like the last couple of weeks. we have the south bay just kicking in and recovery across the san mateo bridge, those crashes have all cleared northbound 101 at holly, may be activity around that off-ramp. over here at the bay bridge i was tracking the inclin as folks come off the toll plaza and right about here we had two

zucker perg poberg posted, if id me for a while you know one of my top priorities for 2018 and making sure facebook prevents interference, it's misinformation in elections. today we're taking another step establishing an independent election research commission that will solicit research on the effects of social media on elections and democracy. ceo mark zuckerberg will testify in front of senate hearings this week and facebook users are set to learn more today about the case. facebook plans to send users by cambridge analytica, they estimate 87 million users were affected during the 2016 election season. the trump presidency campaign reportedly hired cambridge analytica but the company said it never used data collected through facebook. the company reportedly took personal data that facebook users unknowingly provided

through a survey a while back. facebook says that cambridge analytica was lalso able to access personal data from the friends of those users. zuckerberg is expected to testify later this week. you can check out his facebook page to get more information on how to better protect yourself in the future. reporting live, i'm sharon katsuda, "today in the bay." continuing coverage for you, six months to the day after the start of the devastating north bay wildfires and this is what's left behind. that's what we saw. so many families really still recovering and seeking help to rebuild right now. 8900 structures burned during the firestorm, many of them homes half a year later rebuilding has only begun for a handful of homes restored. we spoke to one couple trying to get past the permit stage as they negotiate with insurers and builders. >> we're getting a ph.d. in insurance and every time i read that policy, i learn something

suspect and in the process his hands were cut but he was able to get the knife away from the suspect and then he was able to tackle the suspect to the ground. >> 32-year-old robert dolt is now facing attempted murder charges. the good samaritan has not been identified. one victim is still in critical condition this morning. investigators are working to identify the body found in the same area mendocino county where two parents intentionally drove the. suxt v off the cliff last month. it's believed the six adopted children were inside. there are reports tourists found a body of a african-american female floating in the water near fort bragg over the weekend. authorities have been searching for three missing children following last month's crash. the bodies of sara and jennifer hart and the three of their other adopted children have been found. 6:36. bill cosby's retrial begins in pennsylvania. opening statements start in just hours. the first trial ended with a

break down the rising cost of parking. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning, commuters here have it pretty good, only charged $3 a day to park their cars in one of these spots. once you drive over the bay bridge into san francisco, it gets very expensive. on average $6 an hour. we bring this up because that makes san francisco one of the most expensive places to park in the united states. actually number three. if you look at all of the cities, this akoshdiccording to study by an analytics company. you can see the information put together on your tv screen. most expensive places to park in the u.s., most expensive being new york, l.a. and sf and d.c. and seattle and san francisco drivers are paying on average just over $1700 a year to park their car and anyone who has driven a car in sf knows it could feel an eternity to find a place to park. we spend on average 85 hours a

year looking for a place to park in the city by the bay. usually ends up to be at least around ten minutes, 11 minutes per day. reporting live here in dublin, bob redell, qutsz today in the bay. >> we know, waiting to find parking, it's -- >> it is 6:39, new this morning, key areas of improvement for airlines except for the one that a lot of people care about are arriving on time. researchers found airlines are losing however fewer bags and bumping fewer passengers and getting fewer complaints. but the persicentage of flights arrived on schedule declined slightly in 2017. still the study says over 80% of flights arrive on time. >> a lot of people may not be arriving to work on time if you're taking a bay bridge. >> that's right. we have problems but don't have much of products for the rest of the bay. peninsula crash north 101 at holly presents some slowing heading north into san mateo.

the rest of the bay does move very well and crossing the san mateo bridge, much better than it was a half hour ago. that's weerds weird to say but speeds have improved. there's the slowing we talked about. over towards the berkeley curve, a big jam here westbound 80, slammed solid from university over to the bay bridge toll plaza and so look at the travel times approaches through oakland. the problem is there was a crash over at the incline so the metering lights were slowed down dramatically and everybody is backed up. we have improvement at 580 drive, better than it was a few minutes ago but that's a tough dri drive. >> yeah, you know what else, you can say way off into the future. >> way off. >> the weekend. >> it's there. >> it's never too early to look ahead to the weekend when we have great weather on the way. i know you're already starting to make some plans this saturday, i'm going to be at the autism speaks wake in san jose.

and i am of course going to make sure the weather is absolutely perfect. the coast will be at 72 degrees. the bay at 76 for the high. and inland areas are reaching up to 78 degrees. on sunday, still really nice but slightly cooler, we'll start to see more clouds mixing in as we go through the day and cooler along the coast as well with a high of 66. 68 for the bay and 74 inland. as you make plans maybe you're heading out of town, santa barbara looks nice, it's going to be sunny friday and saturday, upper 70s and sunday more clouds and bringing down temperatures a few degrees but if you're going farther north, maybe up to lake shasta, it's going to be raining by the end of the weekend and much cooler so saturday is your best day to get out there. it will be 66 degrees. here's a live look at squaw valley this morning as the sun rises and there will be snow showers during the middle of the week but by the weekend it all clears out and temperatures reaching 53 degrees on saturday. we'll take a look at today's

disturbing discovery in a tiny northern california town. fishermen found human rains in a river in isleton in sacramento county. homicide investigators are trying to figure out who the victim is and identify a suspect. those remains were found yesterday morning inside a bag in a rural part of the delta. sheriff deputies say a fisherman immediately called police. they spent hours in the water searching for evidence. >> we haven't tied thd to any specific missing persons case yet or anything like that. this investigation is in its infancy and we're looking for any leads or anybody that may have any information. deputies are trying to figure out how long the victim was in water. >> former attorney general loretta lynch is opening up about her role in the clinton e-mail investigation. it's something that former fbi director james comey have said he was concerned about. lynch's comments come in an exclusive interview with nbc's

>> it's nice to see the spring showers still in the forecast for the bay area. it's going to warm up today and then tomorrow some rain chances moving in we'll sort all of that out, as you get ready to head out the door and across the golden gate bridge, butdful sunrise, all calm, no fog and we will also have mild temperatures. looking at our highs today, we go from the 40s and 50s up to the 70s for san francisco. 77 in napa. oakland at 74 and san jose expect a high of 83 degrees, that's seven-day forecast up at the bottom of the screen shows rain for the middle of the week. you do feel those cool temperatures so you do need a jacket. it will warm up and feel more like the end of spring and speaking of spring, would it be spring without baseball? it's going to be a great evening

out there and at&t park. first pitch at 7:15 will be at 69 degrees. and temperatures dropping back in the low 60s, make sure you have on something nice and warm. now our clouds will start to roll in with this storm system moving in from the pacific, and it is a fairly weak storm system. we'll start to see rain moving in quickly by late tomorrow afternoon. into the rest of the bay area and another round of rain between wednesday night and thursday. and then dry out in time for the weekend. much of this rain looks like it will be about a half inch of rain or less with some of the higher amounts farther to the north. much of the bay area getting about a quarter inch of rain. our temperatures very warm today but cooling down as that rain moves in and then warming up in time for the weekend. mike, you're saying it's a tough drive heading through the bay bridge. >> it is, we've been tracking that crash that had lanes blocked on the incline which clear a half hour ago but the backup did not.

monterey road near capitol expressway. this happened around 1:00 this morning. police aren't saying who they were searching for or if the search was a success. this week marks six months since the daily north bay wildfires, you're looking at one of the hardest areas hit in santa rosa. lawmakers will discuss a bill aimed at wildfire preparedness and require every county to set up a wireless emergency alert system complete with trained operators who can implement an evacuation order. the bart police citizen review board meets in the wake of a deadly shooting involving a b.a.r.t. officer. an officer shot and killed a man near the west oakland station back in january. we'll get to this story on the wildfire in just moments. today i wanted to tell you the board board will talk about the role of the office of the independent police auditor. the san francisco sheriff is asking for more funding to equip jail guards with body cameras.
