good monday morning to you. right now 4:30 and we're off to a soggy start to this workweek. a live look at the golden gate bridge on our radar. you can see the rain moving through the area. slick roads during your commute and there is more rain on the way. good morning, thank you so much for starting your morning with us. >> i'm laura garcia. let's get straight to the forecast. will the rain stick around? >> you can see it on the radar, it's going to be off and on and that's going to be the case throughout the day with chilly temperatures. let's get a look out there as we look at the wide view of this storm system moving in, some lightning offshore and i'll be watching for the potential of thunderstorms as we go into the rest of the day. we've seen them mostly just about to move into the coast in the north bay and then we didn't

see any more lightning strikes, i'll be watching for that as we head to the tri-valley. we can see rain coming down from d lynn towards livermore. that's where mike is tracking the roads and wet commute this morning. >> this will greet you out there. traveling westbound and eastbound as well, center divide doesn't stop that rain. wet roads kicking off the roadway tracks and you see the radar active. traffic and weather together our systems tie that information translating it to the highlighted green wet roads acro across. san francisco, southbound 101 in the north bay, about spencer avenue, two right lanes, just heard two right lanes are blocked by a crash there. you saw the slowing change. we'll track that and i'll try to get more detail from chp. back to you. >> 4:31. breaking news in east contra costa county. there was an early morning shooting. you can see those deputies still

on the scene scouring the neighborhood. this is at california street. this is two blocks south of san pablo avenue. we know that at least one person was air lifted to a hospital in walnut creek. we asked the office for more details but so far they are not revealing any information. also breaking news nationally for you right now, seven inmates are dead and 17 more hurt in south carolina. right now officials are only calling this quote inmate altercations. these are photos posted to twitter in lee county fire. it happened in the lee county correctional institution which is a maximum security institution. >> continuing coverage, a war of words between president trump and fbi director. he's fired. in an interview james comey called the president morally unfit for office and comey maintains the president demanded loyalty. >> and i just stare at him and

gone viral. one witness explained some of what happened. >> sitting there quietly, sitting on their phones and chatting and just like everyone else in starbucks. >> a philadelphia police defended the arrest. it did spark protests in philadelphia by people who call it racial profiling. we'll have a live report coming up at 5:00. the 49ersoff season workout begins today but one of the rising stars is being told to keep his distance for now. foster will not be allowed to participate. last week foster was officially charged in a domestic violence case. prosecutors say he beat his girlfriend. the team released a statement saying foster will not participate in team activities while he deals with this case. >> the search continues for the suspect connected to a shooting on a busy east bay freeway this weekend. on saturday night, someone in an suv open fire on 580 in richmond forcing police to close all eastbound lanes. this all happened in central

area, chp officer conducting a traffic stop at the time witnessed that shooting. officers say that the suspect allegedly fired more than 20 shots. a ford sedan was hit but nobody was injured. it's 4:35, happening today, san francisco leaders will take a closer look at new regulations for many motorized rental scooters. users leave the bikes wherever they end near the ride but critics say they are being lefrt in the way. >> one of the scooters or anything else blocking the lane of traffic. if it's lying on the sidewalk and it presents a potential tripping hazard, public safety hazard. >> city leaders say helmet regulations need to be tightened. >> happening today, one east bay school district hopes to ease the housing crunch for its teachers. the west contra costa unified school district will host a housing fair but the district is partnering with a company designed to find affordable housing for teachers, today's fair begins at 4:00 p.m. at the

good morning, i'm jackie deanklis, here are today's top business headlines, markets were concerned about a prolonged campaign in syria but futures moved higher as investors viewed air strikes over the weekend as an isolated attack. the dow closing 122 points lower in friday's session. the nasdaq dropping 34 points at 7106. meantime, customers could soon start paying sales tax for all online purchases. while retail giants like amazon and walmart already collected the taxes, many maul resmall retailers don't unless they have a presence in the state where the customers live. tomorrow more than 40 states will reconsider this 26 year rule and decision is expected by june. reversal of the law can level

welcome back, as we look out in san francisco, looking beautiful right now. we know there is rain in the forecast. we've already seen rain in some spots in the bay area this morning. get ready for a wet morning commute. 4:45 right now. >> i felt like he was driving under a spell. >> it was. >> hopefully it doesn't follow you inside the building too. >> so far so good. >> not one of those mondays. we're going to see rain off and on and cool temperatures and we've seen some clear skies as we get a live look outside in san jose, even though some rain

just passed there a few minutes ago. that's the kind of weather we'll have. sun will break out later today and we're going to see also some wet roads. let's go to evergreen and check out the temperature trend, 49 degrees, it's going to be cool today. normally we're hitting 67 degrees and only reaching low 50s today with some times of rain. we're mostly looking at upper 50s for the inland areas and some mid-50s for the coast and san francisco. make sure you're prepared for that also the waves of rain, as we get dressed this morning, starting out in the closet and it's going to be a day for the umbrella and also a nice warm coat. as you get a look at the 7-day forecast, at the bottom of the screen we'll be warming up through the week. we have to get through the system today and we're seeing spotty showers through -- even even seen a couple of lightning strikes and cells producing small hail. we'll be watching out for more of that as the day goes along

and heavy sierra snow coming down this morning that will continue throughout the day. as we see the rain passing by, it will move through fairly quickly. also seeing the changes in the colors here showing wintry mix and some snow on mt. hamilton. some of the bay area peaks will get some low elevation snow at 3,000 feet or above. we're seeing dry conditions in san francisco now but the rain is starting to move back in. and that will be making its way across the city within the next few minutes and over towards oakland within the next 30 minutes. watching that rain there. also around the santa teresa area. more showers off and on today. we can see it continuing as we go hour by hour into the afternoon. then tapering off later tonight and once again we're watching out for some heavy snow across the sierra, possibly over a foot of snow in some spots. and then we'll have another

quick wave of rain moving through between wednesday night and early thursday morning and the rest of the forecast is looking dry. we'll just gradually warm up as the week goes along and check out the weekend. 80 degrees and sunny for the inland valleys as we head over to mike, he's got a traffic break on 101. >> we thought it would be done but may not be, i see cars coming across the golden gate bridge southbound and for a few minutes we also have a zipper truck moving, slick roadways so be careful. towards the golden gate, slowing on the sensors around spencer avenue. two right lanes are blocked and traffic break is called by chp and did sound it would be going on over the next few and we'll track that. should be better news overall for the north bay commute in the next few minutes, east bay, canyon road off eastbound 580. that may be affected. light traffic in the area and as we zoom out, that's where the wet roads and rain traveled

through the area and radar showed that activity over here into livermore and altamont corridor as more traffic comes out. we'll continue to track that's as well. a live look across the san matd tosh mateo bridge. slick on the roadways in patches, back to you. >> thank you very much. 4:49, new this morning, controversy over transportation funding in the east bay. mercury news reports union city may spend $75 million earmarked for new transit station on three-mile road. the price tag is $320 million. there's a vote tomorrow. it comes as the city considers tee clairi declaring a fiscal emergency and basic city services. a new look for one busy segment of the north bay commute on highway 101. caltrans says crews successfully shifted the alignment on segment of 101 through the marin narrow. that includes a raised section of highway and new bridge over

san antonio creek south of petaluma. part of a larger effort to modernize the stretch runs from petaluma to san rafael. >> and 4:50 right now. happening today, sfo terminal will be renamed after the late city supervisor harvey milk. the mayor will sign a bill after a unanimous approved vet by the supervisors two weeks ago. milk was the first opening gay official in california history and he and the mayor were assassinated by dan white in 1978. >> it's 4:50 right now, governor brown getting off to a bus city start this week. it starts today north of the border, visiting canada for a climate conference. tomorrow he'll be in washington to attend a trade union conference. >> and tomorrow is tax day and house minority leader pelosi has a fan to fight the new republican tax law. the san francisco democrat joined protesters on sunday saying her party pledged to educate the public on the law's

a good monday morning, a live look outside overlooking emeryville, all of the lights before the sun's arrival. you may notice rain if you're heading out the door early this morning. we'll check the forecast with kari in just moments. it is 4:54. >> nbc bay area responds to a man who fixed a problem with the appliance he owns and thought

the manufacturer should extend the warranty in return. >> he turned to our response team for help. here's the story. >> good morning. winston dye spent $2500 on a ge refrigerator that features a built-in cure ig brewing system. the day after delivery he noticed that it was leaking and not dispensing hot water as advertised. ge sent a technician, and winston says that repairment concluded it was a missing a tube of some sort but ordered one. when the technician came back to install the tube he realized there wasn't a tube missing after all. at that point winston said he and the repair man teamed up to guess their way around fixing the problem, working together they shortened the tube and repositioned it. that seemed to correct the problem. hot water dispensed properly and the leaking stopped. but winston was worried that problem may resurface after the warranty expired. he tried to raise that issue with ge and got nowhere. he reached out to us for help.
