making it into the 60s, mid-60s at 3:00 today. normally we're at 730 degrees. we'll be almost there but then we'll warm up quite a bit as we go into that forecast. we'll take a look ahead to the weekend in just a few minutes. vianey, what's happening on the roads this morning? >> i'm still tracking delays in the south bay due to earlier crash and overall look at the bay area. everything looks green but you look here in san jose you see yellow and red out there. the reason for that, there is a motorcycle rider down. it appears the bike is blocking the center lane and that is causing delays. crews are on the way. as of right now to clear that out. they probably are already on scene as this has been going on for half an hour. for now try to avoid the area there and hop on here. back to you. >> 6:00 right now. good-bye gridlock. caltrans breaks ground on a new express lane and it could make

your commute a lot easier. this the stretch we're talking about. starts at mission boulevard in fremont, goes over and ends at highway 84. >> "today in the bay" bob redell live along 680 to explain how this is going to impact your drive. good morning, bob. >> good morning to you, marcus and laura. caltrans in alameda valley chose to extend the hot lane over northbound 680, sunol grade. right now we're looking at one of the top ten most congested corridors in the bay area. later the government will break ground on the project. take a look at the map. it is a nine-mile stretch that the extend from mission boulevard in fremont north on 680 over sunol grade past highway 4 exit to livermore. when complete it will be like other hot ones through the area. carpoolers or anyone with clean

his microphone getting scratchy there. 6:02, happening now union city police are trying to help track down take 12-year-old girl last seen yesterday. take a look, psi say camila rodriguez left for school with a friend but she never showed up there and never returned home. police also say her cell phone is turned off. they say they don't know why. she might have rupp away. she was last seen wearing a black north face jacket. across the bay an 11-year-old girl missing. police asking you to keep an eye out for diana flores lava. she was last seen at 4:00 camino real and bay street. she was wearing a green sweatshirt with the word "pink." 6:03, it's turning into one of the most difficult weeks in years for airline industries. lingering in minds, some of you will take to the air soon.

this is from atlanta, new photos from the terrifying scene. can you see smoke coming from the engine after it touched down. the delta plane had just taken off from hartsfield-jackson in land on its way to london. firefighters waiting for that flame, quickly hosed it down. no one was injured. mvp while ntsb investigation and those investigators are now in philadelphia trying to determine how a ruptured fan played caused an engine to explode. this during southwest flight on tuesday. the mother of two was hamp hars sucked out of the hole in the plane and later died. investigators working on the wear and tear of the plane. one can only imagine what the southwest flyers were going through. turns out one bay area native was on board that flight. this is a moment she reunited with her husband chad in dallas.

no words, just tears of joy. diana is from concord but now lives in texas. her husband talked about their texts to one another as the plane's engine was failing. >> for the next five minutes we said all the things we wanted to say to each other if that was the last thing we got to say. investigators say 22 minutes passed from the moment of the explosion until that plane safely landed. >> it is 6:05, happening today, more than 100 people will have to look for a new home. they are getting cleared out of a big homeless encampment in santa rosa so new apartments can be built there. this map, in fact, shows you where it is. it's behind the rosen village shopping center in santa rosa. live with a controversial move that starts in just a few hours. pete, we should tell people, too, this is really part of a bigger problem facing

communities. we see it across the bay area. >> reporter: pretty big problem indeed, laura. we've seen it in san francisco, berkeley, city officials clearing out homeless encampment trying to figure out housing options for folks living in the encampment. standing in santa rosa in the shopping center behind dollar tree. right now getting daylight, you see where the homeless encampment is. it's been here about two years. i just spoke with someone not too long ago. we'll get to her interview in a mome moment. she was there was 150 people living in the encampment. showing you pictures over the years. 150 people called this encampmentover home over the last two years. originally they wanted to clear it out march 30th but a district judge issued a court order to postpone the date after the county was sued by folks in the encampment as well as advocates saying it was a violation of

their constitutional rights. the hope by that judge was to give advocates more time to find shelter or housing for those in the encampment. we know santa rosa police in charge of clearing that out. if police will take aggressive, first warning people to leave, issue citations. if that doesn't work and people are still there, they will begin to make arrests. as i mentioned, i spoke with a woman who lived in the encampment fur months and she says she doesn't know where to go once police clear out the area. >> they have made it so impossible out here to camp, to be homeless. we were going to share a campground over here locally, a couple of other couples, and they aren't open. normally they are open april 1st but this year not until june 1st. take you back out here live to that encampment, which is going to be cleared out in a matter of hours. the city eventually wants to

build apartments on this site and plan to make room for affordable units. we know that encampment is going to be cleared roughly around 9:00 a.m. advocates are going to hold a rally an hour before then at 8:00 a.m. live in santa rosa pete suratos on "today in the bay." happening today vta will show off new fleet of fully electric buses. you might be riding them soon. they also plan to talk about the power system. vta hopes to have close to 40 electric buses on south bay streets within the next two years. >> okay. so if you're co-workers are a little plebleary eyed, it's for good reason. they were up late celebrating with the sharks playoff in. >> did you see it, thomas heardl deflected the goal. it broke 1-1 tie and sharks went on to beat anaheim.

slipped on the back of ibms disappointing earnings. oil prices at levels not seen since late 2014, nearing $70 a barrel, a drop in u.s. crude supply and saudi arabia called for higher prices. dow falling 38 points yesterday to 24748 while nasdaq added 14 to 7295. amazon says it now has more than 100 million paid prime members worldwide. that's more members than costco. also the first time amazon has given a specific number on a subscriber. it came in the company's annual letter to shareholders and jeff bezos says amazon ships more than 5 billion items with prime, also said amazon music has tens of millions of subscribers. whole food shutting down rewards program on may 2nd. the grocery chain will fold everything into amazon prime according to e-mail sent to customer this is week. reports say unused reports won't roll over to prime so you should try to use them before they

sunshine, too. we have that around the bay area. it's going to be nice. we watch the system pass by close to the bay area yesterday evening. they didn't bring us rain. storm ranger mobile doppler radar, red scan seeing parts of san jose now. giving us clean sweep as you step out the door. that rain was so close to the coast but see it makes its way on farther down to the central coast and now getting ready to bring rain to l.a. we missed out on this round of rain. i think a lot of people just don't mind at this point. it's going to be cool behind that system as it continues to move away. we're going to see a lot of sunshine. as you're walking kids to school in livermore this morning at 7:00 we're at 40 degrees. definitely a cool start. at recess they will have temperatures already in the upper fif upper 50s. it will be a day where temperatures quickly warm up.

oaklandf 56, low 60s as you head home. our highs reaching into the upper 60s. south bay, san jose at 6, 68 in gilroy and milpitas 63 degrees. if you're going for a job in cupertino, once again a cool start. only 40s this morning. around noon i think that will be a better time to get out there, take in some sunshine and low 60s. we know it's going to be worming up and a nice beach weekend. here is a look at that weekend forecast for santa cruz. if you can hang out for about 20 minutes, i'll have a full wrap up of things to do for this weekend coming up at 6:38. now vianey, anything happening on the roads? >> kari, i know in the weather department it's a lot of sunshine but here in the traffic, we don't have much going on, which is great news for out on the road. for right now we are seeing a couple delays out of the east bay and south bay typical build up 880 before hopping on bay

mix-up. >> with three to choose from travelers in the bay area can often find great deals on flights if you know where to look. nathan is one of those bargain hunters. when he saw united airlines selling round trip flights to hawaii for $197 each, he quickly snapped up two seats. but a few days later nathan noticed his credit card was charged $347 per ticket. that's $150 more than he thought he was paying per seat leaving a total of $300 up in the air. nathan said he called united airlines and was told there was a system error. united then offered to cancel the trip and refund his money. but nathan wanted the bargain fare he initially paid for, a flight to hawaii for less than $200. that's when nathan asked us to help. we reached out to united. the airline told us a technical error occurred when our customer booked his tickets causing an incorrect additional charge and a delay in the tickets being issued. united let nathan keep the

northbound and southbound side in the south bay. in san jose, if i show you a live cam, this is actually a look right now along 101 and just north of 280 you can see it doesn't look like there's major issues. i think people do a little morning traffic crawl at certain points where you're like what's up there. chp isn't reporting anything. i'm not seeing anything on the traffic cam, i think traffic maps picking up slower vehicles. a quick look at drive times, we are seeing traffic building towards bay bridge. you're looking at 14 minutes. san mateo 20 minutes. quickly go to twitter, which is healthier, grilled cheese or cheese pizza. we'll see who gets this right. send it back to you. >> 6:31 right now. students from the bay area heading to sacramento. this is to push for gun control. you might already know a nationwide school walkout planned for tomorrow to protest

gun violence. kris sanchez with what the students are hoping to discuss this morning. kris. >> hi, marcus, we talked with students starting to gather for 8:00 departure time for six different locations. they are going top fellow students as well. we know they have been working on this a while. this is a video at their last strategy meeting at berkeley. they were talking about their action plan for the state capital today. there are about 300 bay area students. they call themselves bay area student activists or basa for short, which means enough in spanish. we talked to one student who said she was inspired from parkland students who went from victims to activists. >> i think they inspired every

student in the united states, they aren't going to stand down. we are the generation of mass shootings. i have never lived in the world where there hasn't been a mass shooting. >> when they arrive they will ask lawmakers to support four bills, one that would raise the age to buy a long gun to 21, another make weapon data public and one that waves the fee for people seeking gun violence restraining orders. also a bill that puts a lifetime ban on weapons possession for anyone convicted of domestic violence. these students head to sacramento one day ahead of the national student walkout that marks the 19th anniversary of columbine school massacre. this is video of the student walkout back on march 14th that honored the lives of the victims in parkland, florida. today the students will arrive in sacramento around 10:30. we will check in with them and bring you the latest at 11:00 in our midday newscast. in santa clara, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you, kris.

6:33, warriors playoff in san antonio taking a big back seat to the wife of spurs head coach gregg popovich has died. >> right now there's no word whether popovich will be on the sidelines with lis team. erin popovich passed away yesterday at 67 years old. the warriors are among many in the nba reacting to that news including star kevin durant who found out about this at practice. >> it's bigger than the game, bigger than winning or losing. it's about the brotherhood we built. >> warrior star steph curry tweeted, i can't imagine what coach popovich is going through but i am lifting up prayers to you and your family. the warriors are leading the series two games to none. it is 6:34. continuing coverage we're now hearing from the pilot who safely landed that southwest plane in philadelphia after its

engine exploded. captain tammie jo shults made history as one of the first female fighter pilots in the navy. she's now being credited for keeping an amazing sense of calm after the fan blade punctured the plane. as captain and first officer of the crew of five who worked to serve our customers aboard flight 1380, we all feel we were simply doing our jobs. the author of a book called "military moms" knows shults personally. >> i'm really proud of her, proud she's getting the recognition. she's just a wonderful, warm, amazing person. >> you can see that entire interview with author linda maloney a little later this morning on the "today" show. new this morning, youtube employees will return to work a day after they were rattled by disturbing threats. san bruno police say

they found a post on instagram promising another shooting at the headquarters. federal agents tracked that threat to pennsylvania where they arrested a child. this comes two weeks after a woman opened fire at the youtube campus in san bruno. she shot three employees and killed herself. the shooter was upset because youtube was censoring her content online. the city of houston will pay tribute to former first lady barbara bush on the steps of city hall. people are encouraged to wear their pearls or the color blue. she wore a three-strand necklace of faux pearls in 1989 setting off fashion buzz and certainly a trend. >> 6:36. a scary sighting in east san jose. what would you do if you or neighbors saw a mountain lion walking down the street right there. look at the tv you saw it there. this is the big cat caught on surveillance video. this morning people living nearly juliette and rosemont are

talking about this close call. >> i heard some noises outside. i went outside but didn't see anything. kind of scary. >> the animal went back into the hills. we talked to animal dispatchers and they told us no one reporting mountain lion. happening today san francisco will commit to cutting greenhouse gas emissions faster. acting mayor said it the bring the city in line with paris climate cords many cities fulfilling that after president trump pulled out of the agreement. >> if you pull into the gas station, expect to pay more. gas more expensive in the area. aaa puts national average at $2. 4, in california the average is $3.55. prices are higher in san francisco, marin, san mateo and napa counties. people we talk to say they blame the long drive to work. >> because it's in higher

demand. it's more expensive here, because a lot of commuting. >> people need that gas. experts tell us higher prices are a tradeoff for a booming economy. californians also pay an extra $0.12 a gallon in gas tax. a lot of commuters this morning were late not just the high cost of gas but traffic. this morning we're seeing dplas especially along southbound side along 880 in east bay right now. definitely seeing some delays. i looked at chp reports and it doesn't look like there are any accidents. i think it's just a lot of heavy traffic starting to come to a crawl, reaching closer to the 7:00 hour. a quick look right now peninsula drive times southbound 101. to sfo, 12 minutes, hopefully won't be too late to the airport to catch a flight. metering lights still very much on. the update on my poll i'm taking right now on twitter and

middle school and it's going to be nice weather. starts out cool, mid-50s at 9:00. it does quickly warm up. i think we'll want to get our work done early under all of that sunshine. if you're going to northern california cherry blossom festival in japan town, we have some beautiful weather both days this weekend reaching into the upper 60s and low 70s with a lot of sunshine. then heading out of town, maybe going to carmel valley, cooler tomorrow, 70 degrees but a touch warmer for saturday and sunday with mid-70s there heading to the sierra. you better get there soon because our highs in the mid-60s will be melting that snow very soon. mostly sunny skies thoroughout the weekend. you shouldn't have travel issues getting there and back. let me know your weekend plans @karihall on twitter and facebook. you may get a personalized forecast. i had a friend say she was going
