yep, this is my third one today. the new cholula buttery jack. part of the buttery jack family. only at jack in the box. it's friday, 4:30. taking a live look outside at the golden gate bridge, a few cars on the road but i'm sure a lot more people are up and getting ready for the weekend. good morning and thank you for joining us, i'm marcus washington. >> i'm kris sanchez in for lar laura garcia. you want to know what the forecast is, kari. >> it's going to be heating up the next couple of days. the warm weather coming into the bay area starts today, even though we're seeing some light patchy fog near the coast, inland areas like san jose are all clear as you head out the door. as we check out willow glen's

temperature trend, 40s through 8:00 then look how quickly it warms up, low 70s by 2:00 and few more degrees from there. checking out your morning drive through the peninsula, we will have some 60s through noon but you see all of that sun that continues into the weekend. and mike, you're tracking the crash coming out of the altamont pass. >> mostly 60s as far as speeds go for most of the area. altamont pass, we have a little bi of slowing being friday, less than we often see but past where there's a little slowing off 205 merge, we do have a crash right around grant line road. it sounds like everything is off to the shoulder but i'll track that early commute over is there. there is a commute, no slowing i guess for north 101. i know you're getting to work or wherever you are. >> a ten-hour standoff is over in the south bay but had to be scary for people who lived in that neighborhood. it only ended about two hours ago, it was a long night. police activity outside a home

in sierra and piedmont in san jose and police say this all involved three suspected wanted in a string of violent robberies. officers first spotted them at 4:00 yesterday afternoon and the suspects surrendered finally when a s.w.a.t. team shot tear gas into that home. city students across the nation will once again walk out classes to march and have their voices heard as we mark 19 years since columbine had a massacre. >> that marked a watershed moment of violence on campuses. "today in the bay" talked to the local students planning to join in the nationwide walkout movement. >> marching out towards the sycamore valley overpass, many choose that location when they want to be visible. >> reporter: this is the location community leaders will gather to say enough is enough. >> people are just done. >> reporter: in danville, the national school walkout will start on the grass roots level,

marie clarity is leading the charge. >> when does it stop and when is it enough? >> reporter: the call for change is taking place on the 19th anniversary of the columbine high school mass shooting. that's something san ramon valley freshman and sophomore grace johnson are well aware of. >> i believe we are the mass shooting generation and we've lived through this countless times and nothing has been done. this time our goal -- >> organized last month's walkout where they conducted voter registration and letter writing campaign to lawmakers asking for a change in gun laws. this walkout not different than the last one prompted by the florida high school mass shooting but they promise there's more to come. >> this one really hit us because it's people it could have been us. >> reporter: cheryl herd, "today in the bay." >> our reporters will be out there and we will break into

programming at 10:00 as the students begin their walkout. you can stay updated throughout the day on our digital platforms and that's 24/7. 4:33 right now. an annual 4/20 festivities are about to get under way in san francisco and you'll definitely smell those festivities in the air. this year police are saying they are keeping an extra close eye on celebrations. recreational pot legal in california now but you still want to see this video. this is a golden gate park filled with people there. and if you look closely, that is not fog surrounding all of those people out there. once the party is over, chp will be making sure the roads stay safe. >> while it is legal to do so, you still can't consumet and be under the influence while driving, that is a big thing we'll be out looking for. >> chp says if you have pot in your car while driving, it needs to be sealed. families may be watching

kids more closely this morning. prosecutors want victims to come forward today andrew lund will be formally charged. 36 years old and fourth grade teacher at glenn cove. they arrested him yesterday accusing him of trying to contact a minor for sex. lund didn't know it but he was actually talking online with an undercover investigator. an east bay school on edge, a cal high student arrested for planning an attack in 2021, his senior year. that student is a freshman and investigating are crediting a fellow student for alerting officials who then notified police. district leaders say this is a good reminder if you see anything and know anything, say something. >> happening today, the nation well say good-bye to former first lady barbara bush. she will lay in repose today. people have had a chance to pay respects all day yesterday and

the bush family, they have been members there for decades. the former first lady died at their houston home earlier this week. new video this morning of that terrifying emergency landing this week involving a southwest plane. a passenger took out her phone when the oxygen mask deployed. investigators have pinpointed metal fatigue in the fan blade as a likely cause. meanwhile we've learned a public memorial is planned this sunday for the mother of two who died nearly being sucked out of the plane. the service will take place at the university of new mexico. details on her funeral are not yet known. a man who spent nearly 25 years on death row is now free. his rape and murder conviction of a toddler was overturned by a state court judge. family friends and attorneys greeted 68-year-old outside san quentin yesterday with hugs and

tears. as you can imagine, it was a very emotional reunion. >> his mother passed away and dad passed away. you know, a lot of things those things never came back. >> the first meal after getting his freedom, he said mexican food in san rafael. good chce. >> all right to love. >> cutting down on the monthly budget, at&t will make it easy with this tv bundle plan. we'll look at service less than $20. >> netflix looking to play with the big boys of the movie industry, a look at the steps the streaming service is getting producers and movies into regular theaters.

good morning, i'm kate rogers live at cnbc global headquarters, wall street could start the day in the red. stocks fell dragged lower by apple and several chip makers following disappointing earnings by a major supplier in asia. investors are also fretting over rising interest rates and oil prices which are holding near 3.5 year highs. the dow falling 83 points to 24,654 and nasdaq to 7,238. at&t plans to launch a skinny bundle of tv channels without sports for $15 a month. one of the lowest prices available for a nationwide streaming plan.

the service would be free for at&t wireless customers and no details on a launch date or which channels will be included. netflix is considering a plan to get its movies on big screen. buying its own theaters. the l.a. times reported this week netflix was in talks to buy mark cuban's landmark theaters chain but backed out due to the cost. netflix has more subscribers than amazon or hulu yit to own respect from theater chains on film studios. it would make it easier for netflix to qualify for the oscars and other awards. >> thanks very much. coming up on "today in the bay," we want to get a look at that forecast. we have plans. we know it's earth day and just supposed to be beautiful. >> as we take a live look outside in palo alto, we start out with our clear skies checking out the temperature trend for the day and it's going to be chilly to start but a big warm-up headed our way not only today but for the weekend. the full forecast coming up

home. here's a look at the temperature trend, it's going to be in the low 50s at 8:00 this morning and in the noon hour, look at that, we're already at 69 degrees, low 70s today. 7-day forecast at the bottom of the screen showing much warmer temperatures heading our way for today. morgan hill, we're going to see the high of 77 degrees. for the east bay expect up to 70 in oakland and 79 in concord. still 50s along the coast and half moon bay and redwood city bup 75 degrees. san francisco reaching the upper 60s in the mission district and north bay up to 76 degrees in napa. so taking a live look outside in san jose, as we get dressed for the morning because it starts out so chilly once again, mostly some 40s, you do need a nice warm jacket but for later today, you'll just need short sleeves. if you're thinking of making it a beach weekend, why not check out santa cruz's forecast, going to be up to 75 today and still

just as nice as we go throughout the weekend. beautiful beach weather and san francisco reaching 70 degrees with some slight cooling for next week as there will be a weather system near the coast by wednesday into thursday before the inland areas, it's still going to be warm into at least tuesday and then a slight cooldown for wednesday and thursday. mike, you already have two spots you're watching. >> one of them is not 580. we were watching the crash over here, right around north livermore and greenville. that crash is over on the shoulder and now cleared from the chp report, we're looking at the south county, no delays there, a blip on 84 approaching the dumbarton bridge toll plaza. i'll check on anything in that area when i get back to my desk. the other issue there's a crash going on westbound 80 approaching fitzgerald and not an issue as far as these speed sensors show over the last ten minutes and that's good news. the crash is still in the reports for chp and we'll track the upper east shore.

still only 15 minutes to the bay bridge toll plaza where there's no real backup. through berkeley, not even lit up to the golden gate field that's why it looks a little dark in the area. you can see how traffic flows in the portion of westbound 80. it gets confusing over there. folks know where they are driving. past the coliseum, easy drive southbound past the san mateo bridge. no slowing right now. here's the golden gate bridge, north bay drives shows at the limit for speed sensors through novato and san rafael and back into san francisco. >> thank you very much. happening today, the brother of stephon clark will be in court. he was arrested for making -- a slew of charges including assault and vandalism and now speaking out from his jail cell. >> i'm sorry, whatever the damage i did -- >> police are not releasing details about what led to his arrest but a sacramento couple

tells us they are the victims. clark rented a room from their home and he started behaving erratically. clark reportedly threatened them and then destroyed their home while they were away. this is video of him at a city council meeting and at a rally in his brother's name. they eventually fired a restraining order against him and say his mental health changed after the brother -- his brother stephon clark was shot and killed by police last month. new details this morning on the financial hit to the city of sacramento from numerous protests following deadly police shooting of stephon clark. the chp is clocking thousands of hours of overtime and the costs alone are approaching $800,000. taxpayers will be on the hook to handle those charges. >> the battle between the adult film star and the president continues. what's next in the stormy daniels lawsuit case? lawyers request a delay in the lawsuit, daniels claimed she was given $130,000 to keep quiet

about the alleged sexual encounter with donald trump, the president more than a decade ago. sheants to have that deal declared invalid. attorneys for president trump want a 90-day hold. this is while federal prosecutors in new york look into the payment of daniels. president trump denies the sexual encounter and says he wasn't aware of payment. this morning we have a better sense of california's homeless problem and our leaders have to do a better job. i'd be shocked if you haven't seen a tent city lately. they line most of our freeways, 134,000 homeless people, that is a 24% of the nationwide total. l.a. county has the next -- the state auditor suggests creating one single department to oversee and address the problem statewide. >> we have much more on "today in the bay" at 4:50, nbc bay area responds. >> revealing questions and answers for debt collectors. i'm consumer investigator chris

lot of questions about debt collections. this morning we have answers from an insider consumer investigator chris chmura has unprecedented access to two former debt collectors. >> good morning, we asked them pretty direct questions and they gave us some pretty direct answers. jerry ashton and craig antigo have given up debt collection and buys up a charity that buys up debt and forgives it. a recent denation wipes out as much as $20 million in medical debt nationwide. after our donation we asked the debt collectors to open up and they did. we asked them ten questions. here a couple of them. first, do debt collectors get a bonus or commission? the answer, yes. butnerally on overall performance not per indidual collection. here's another. is there a pre-set percentage, maybe less than 100% that a

a third lane will open up later this afternoon during the your hour commute. as you look up, you actually see a right lane open sign on the bridge's marin county side. 20 sets of overhead green arrows will guide the drivers. those lanes will open between 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. just in time for 4:20, dispensary santa cruz is offering a new way to dispense pot. they'll show off a new vending machine that they hope will help customers get in and out quickly. >> we have an easy in and out option with the vending machine, some folks with the recreational change want a long form consultation and have a lot of questions about cannabis, there's a whole other demographic that wants to grab one item and get going. >> dispensary say 4/20 i one of the busiest days year. >> kari, the forecast is something to smile about. >> especially if you're waking
