weather and sunshine. you can't beat this forecast. i know a lot of people kind of tired of the cold weather we had earlier this week. now as we see the sunrise over san jose, we're going to have a chilly morning but look how much it warms up as we go through the day. maybe you're making plans for the north bay, going to enjoy the day in sonoma wine country, it's going to be very chilly at 8:00, noontime, you can have luncheon the patio and it's going to be 69 degrees and 74 today, also checking out that beach forecast for you, it stays cool along the coast and half moon bay staying in the 50s. a look at all of the temperatures today and mike you're tracking a crash? >> most of the commute will make you smile, much like your forecast. it's friday light with gentle build for san jose and maybe a little bit through hayward, just a tiny bit. here's the issue, the upper east shore starting to recover already. the crash west 80 coming through

pinol and highway 4, that's the rchb why, it's 20, 21 minutes from highway 4 to the bay bridge because of that one little stretch of slowing which has all lanes cleared. looking at west 580, continuing up the dublin grade, a nice easy drive through the tri-valley and across the bay. the san mateo bridge just starts to pick up volume. still at speed. back to you, kris. >> thousands of students across the country and across the bay area are going to walk out of class today. it is the latest protest against gun violence at schools. this is video from a month ago during another similar walkout. today marks 19 years since the columbine high school massacre. and it's interesting because the students walki out today, weren't evenalive with columbine happened. bob redell is live in san jose. this is a challenging time for schools. they want to support students but also can get involved --

>> reporter: each district has a different policy. they are trying to support the students' right to free expression but some districts are going to be marking them unexcused. there are more than 2600 of these walkouts planned nationwide. we've been able to confirm 36 in the bay area, including the one scheduled for later this morning at south san jose. what's going to happen later this morning at 10:00, the students are going to walk out of class, possibly go off campus and then they are going to pause for 13 seconds. one second for each person who is shot and killed at columbine high school in littleton colorado, 19 years ago today. you'll recall the shooters in that massacre were two teenage classmates who committed suicide after police arrived. most of the students participating today as you mentioned, they weren't alive for columbine. but they do remember newtown and most recently parkland where 17 people were shot and killed at a school in florida this past february. the walkout is designed to pressure lawmakers to pass stricter gun control laws.

some of the schools there will be a voter registration drive to preregister to 16 and 17-year-old students so that when they turn 18 years old they can elect lawmakers who will enact tougher estrictions. this is thehirass walkout since parkland. many of the school districts, they support their students right to free speech and expression but some are not okay with the students skipping class or going off campus of the san francisco unified school district let us know students who walk out will receive an unexcused absence with a notification to mom and dad. at dublin high school in the east bay, students can receive detention, according to the east bay times. reporting live in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> more and more students peacefully exercise their rights. >> in morgan hill students will not walk out and lead but elected leaders will come and talk at the town hall style for mat meeting about topics like gun violence and how to get

involved in their community. this morning we'll be at schools all across the bay area. we're going to break into programming at 10:00 this morning as students begin to walk out of class. you can also stay updated through the digital platforms 24/7. 6:04, live look in washington this morning, we're getting our first look at the newly released memos from james comey, we have the redacted version of those memos, all 16 pages, they detail fbi james comey's encounters with president trump. tracie potts is live in washington. people who can't get hands on the memo, what did we find inside here? >> reporter: well, you can get your hands on them, go to our website, nbc news.com and all of the memos are on there. they are however, redacted so there's some information you won't see and by the way, these memos never would have seen the light of day at least to the public had their not been a threat of a suspect to the justice department. >> new overnight from the comey

recall effort and high profile ruling you may have already formed your own opinion now is now breaking his silence, he handed down a life sentence to former stanford swimmer brock turner who sexually assaulted a woman outside of a frat party. yesterday he spoke exclusively to the mercury news and calls the recall effort misplaced frustration with the criminal justice system. he believes that the legal system must take sexual assault and domestic violence victims more seriously. and recall threats can only shake public confidence in the judiciary system. 6:07, new details from fremont. investigators about a deadly police shooting two weeks ago. police say they will not release the police body camera video. earlier this month officers shot and killed 18-year-old who they say was wanted on several warrants. they say he was a passenger in a car that was pulled ov. he ran off and fired at

so the light traffic allows a 19 minute from highway 4 to the backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. how often are your kids online? maybe a smartphone or tablet is their go to for fun or maybe we hand it over when we need a little break as parents. this morning a new study from the bay area says tech companies are illegally handling some of the kids' data. berkeley researchers found more than 3,000 kid oriented android apps collect and sell data to advertisers. as experts will tell you, there's a federal law that makes it illegal to do that with anyone under the age of 13. >> the normal way of doing business on the internet is that you're tracked and advertised and they try to learn as much as they can about you as possible. children are not allowed to be cheated that way. >> so what is a parent to do? you can check the apps on your kids devices and experts say you can use this specific website where you can look up any

privacy problems for any apps your kids use. it is called ap census and i did post a link to that on my social media platform. you can finds that on twitter. turns out not everything is a okay when it komgz to the oracle and warriors, the fact that the team is leaving for san francisco after next season and second thing the coliseum is in dispute over what it says ai $40 million outstanding debt payment. that heads to arbitration in july. today the board members will hold a cloegsed door meeting. anti-immigration group is now suing for more transparency when it comes to america's h1b visa program. h1b bring in educated overseas workers with specialized skills and a lot of tech companies have workers with those kinds of visas. a group called fair believes some programs take away jobs from qualified u.s. citizens. attorneys representing fair are demanding detail ded records on

collectors. nbc bay area responds to a lot of questions about debt collectors, not even the collections, but the collectors themselves. >> this morning we have some answers for you from an insider, consumer investigator chris chmura with the unprecedented access. >> we asked them pretty direct quiz a question and they gave us direct answers. they've given up debt collection and now run a charity that buys up medical debt and forgives it. nbc owned tv stations made a donation that will wipe up as much as $20 million in medical debt nationwide. after our donation, we asked the

about six minutes, mike has a possible problem for richmond drivers. >> possible because we hear about a crash at the end of the richmond to san rafael bridge. here's the richmond side, we see cash lanes operate smoothly, a little backup and then it started to clear again. getting over towards san rafael, westbound is the direction over to the north bay where wanted to show you light volume there. right at the split there, around san quinton, westbound 580, there's a report of a car that hit the cement divider. there may be a lane blocked but no crew there. we see a little slowing at the toll plaza and not at san quinton. meanwhi meanwhile, the rest of the bay shows a friday light commute building for the south bay and across the san mateo bridge as you see here. >> new this morning, people living near a richmond gas station are waking up to a crime scene. police are still at the stop and shop off carlson.

later. >> reporter: we'll be long gone before it starts, guys. as you mentioned, the 4/20 celebration happening here at golden gate park at hippie hill. the changes where we could see more people, legalization of recreational marijuana for adults, expecting anywhere between 12 to 15,000 people showing up here at golden gate park for the 4/20 celebration and with all of this since january 1st, our crews pass by harborside in hooakland, that's prominent dispensary. to see how business has been going since january 1st. andrew deank lo explained that business is up anywhere from 20 to 50% is depending on the month. he said it's kind of hard to gauge at this point, probably better to check in at the end of the year to see what the impact is. did explain however that the demographic coming into that dispensary is changing. >> a lot of them are why are grandmother or father. a lot of folks over the age of

50, 55 years old are coming into the dispensaries and feeling safe and comfortable now that we're legal to come in. the stigma has been lifted. >> reporter: as for the 4/20 event on hippie hill. the area will be fenced off and private security on site. chp will have a heavy presence as well with additional units during the day and after the event. i want to point out this is an unsanctioned event by the city but there will be merchants and sponsors on site for the festivities for the 4/20, beginning here at golden gate park at 9:00 a.m. pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> it will be interesting now that things are legal. thank you, pete. >> the idea of celebrating 4/20 seemgz to be changing at least in san francisco and oakland. new pot related events are planned this year. never thought i would be talking about this on the news. in san francisco a marijuana

oriented tour bus launching called magic cannabus and also an idea in oakland to do something similar to a pub crawl and itill be called -- stop in downtown at the cannabis businesses and it's called 4/20 cannacrawl. that starts at 10:00 a.m. which should give you plenty of time to get over the golden gate bridge and to the golden gate park. by the way, aaa for first time is offering its tipsy tow service for impaired drivers. new this morning a ten-hour standoff is finally over in the south bay but it had to be a very tense night for the folks who live in that neighborhood. it only ended about four hours ago. you can see the police activity here on your screen. this is outside a home on sierra and piedmont roads in san jose. police tell us that there were three suspects that were wanted in a string of violent robberies, officers first responded them yesterday at 4:00 in the afternoon. those suspects finally surrendered but only after a

s.w.a.t. team shot tear gas into that home. new video for you this morning at 6:36, of that terrifying emergency landing this week involving a southwest plane. a passenger took her phone out and recorded this video as oxygen masks were deployed. investigators have pinpointed metal fatigue in the fan blade as the likely cause. we have learned that a public memorial is planned for sunday for the mother of the two that died after being nearly sucked out of the plane. the service will take place at the university of new mexico, details on her funeral are not known. 6:37 now and happening today, the nation will say good-bye to former first lady barbara bush. she'll lay in repose in houston. brand-new video in the newsroom hoes the hear s shows the hearse arriving. it is in houston. the bush family has been a member of that church for

decades, average people will have a chance to pay respects all day. the former first lady died at her home in uston earlier this week. it had to be a tough night for both ams in last night's warriors playoff game against the san antonio spurs. but the game did go on. spurs head coach greg pap vich was not there after the death of his wife er rinne. as for the game itself the warriors were in control most of the night winning 110-97, kevin durant had a team high 96 points and this happened. he tweaked his ankle late in the game and got up and says he is okay. that's what we're hoping for. the dubs have a three game to none lead. game four coming up on sunday. i guess we know what you're doing, mike? >> that's right, staying up to watch but my wife, i was doing something in the kitchen and my wife was on her feet ready to

clark will be in court. he was arrested for a slew of charges including assault and vandalism. now he's speaking out from his jail cell. >> i'm sorry, whatever the damage did -- i pay for. >> police aren't releasing details what led to the arrest but a sacramento couple tells us they were the victims. that clark rents a room from their home and started acting erratically. clark reportedly threatened them then destroyed their home while they were away. the couple eventually filed a restraining order and they say his mental health changed after the death of his brother, stephon, who was shot and killed by police last nth. meanwhile, we're lefning new details on the financial hit to the city of sacramento from numerous protests, chp is clocking thousands of hours of

fire now out. i'll let this sit from the scene for a couple of seconds, firefighters and look at this, they used foam or something to extinguish what could have been a fuel fire as well. the flares are out and one lane is driving past the area. let me walk you through this. the lane going eastbound off the bridge from foster city heading to hayward, that is counter commute, taken care of the fire which didn't catch the brush on the shoulder and we'll look at the map as well. this is counter commute, causing a distraction for both directions head agway from the hayward -- peninsula side to hayward. down to just one lane. that's why chp issued a sigalert. with this map we go the waze system, we'll finish to show you the travel times from the peninsula if you're in san carlos and towards castro valley, it's about 45 minutes to get over there on the dumbarton bridge, a little longer drive. what you should take that because even though right now across the san mateo bridge,
