a developing story we're following in sonoma county, police are searching for a teenager suspect linked to a dead deadly stabbing. this is a photo of anthony ar buck. he is a -- just after noon today. suspect and the victim reportedly got into some kind of fight at a nearby house party. they said the suspect fled in a marine bmw after that stabbing and still on the loose. reported to be armed and deadly. the first celebration with legal pot is in the books. thing were peaceful yesterday. but offers arrested three people for driving under the influence of manner. marijuana. we check with highway patrol they say the arrest numbers won't be available until monday. many people offered to take public transportation, but it was more than 225,000 people, a

than $20 million in grants. they did it with shovels, paint brushes and a little elbow greece. >> it's about regrowth and the strength of the people who live there. i think that's a touch l way to be able to express that. >> reporter: nbc bay area staff, management and onair personalities were among the 300 volunteers who gave up their saturday to pitch in. >> today we're bringing back hope to all of these families that had tough years. >> we hope today's an example for others to come out and help these communities. >> i think it's important for everyone to give back to this community that's been so effected by the fires. >> in santa rosa, volunteers put a fresh coat of paint and did landscaping. they prepared for the graduation ceremony at the football

privacy.... a unique step by the company. facebook launched its first-ever cyber security university, specifically for veterans. the controversy surrounding facebook privacy. facebook launched its first every cyber security university, specifically for veterans. 33 veterans graduated from the program after including a 12 week course. they learned about cyber security. the students received a lot of hands-on training. >> it's to -- of cyber security and because of the the shortage of professionals. >> all veterans enrolled had to have some kind of commuter science and it background. helping immigrants become u.s. citizens. this was set up at san jose city

but on the dance floor. last night nine players from the 49ers attended the eighth annual pr the 49ers suited up for a night to remember, not on the field but on the dance floor. nine 49ers attended the prom in san francisco. their friends enjoyed music and dancing. special evening is part of a milestone that they might miss because of their health. >> i found out from my high school teacher, she invited me to go to a prom. i was very excited. >> very cool. this is the fourth year the

rain falls from march and april, some of those grass pollens might be running higher than they ought to be this year. sea breeze picked up this evening. it will cool off quickly around san francisco and oakland. temperatures tomorrow morning in the 40s to low 50s. high temperatures in line of what we had today, could see mid-80s, south of san jose tomorrow. generally what we had to day, i not warmer. from oakland and hayward, the numbers on the peninsula, 70s around palo alto and close to 70 in san francisco. the cherry bloz some festival at 1:00 and the temperatures will look very nice. tomorrow still near 80 degrees in san toes are, 70s around napa. no rain producing clouds, it will likely stay that way to

always deadly form of childhood cancer. a possible break through in the fight against the rare, always deadly form of childhood cancer. that's the headline from stanford university. >> we'd like to show you the behind that news. here's robin tomas with the story that'll make you proud. >> reporter: like many people of think of medical research in the lab as an anonymous process. a specimen researchers work on numbers or codes. but they are people, and important ones at that. like one little 6-year-old girl. we first met 6-year-old jennifer lin in 2014 on what would be the final days of her life.

digp, an untreatable and uncurable brain tumor was about to take her from her mother and father. thanks to difficult decisions they made in those days, we can report while jennifer lost her battle she is still not done fighting. >> so proud, because i know this is what he'd want. i know she'd want to help other kids. >> that first decision was to arrange donation of jennifer's tumor to dr. michelle mangy. a pediatric knew roe oncologist and researcher. it is why after hours of jennifer's death we were in dr. mangi's lab witnessing the first step in an attempt to create stem cell lines from jennifer's tumor, adding aingli-mile-an-hour of hope in a disease that haven't seen a

meaningful advance in 60 years. >> jennifer's donation gave us a tool that we didn't have. >> but to use that tool takes money. and this is where libby and tony comes back into the picture. after jennifer's death they started a foundation, unravelled, funding pediatric cancer research, but not in a traditional way. when christopher mount, a graduating student in dr. mangi's lab. an experiment using cells derived from jennifer's very own tumor, her mom and dad was once again involved. >> we had this great idea for expensive experiments to test this. libby showed up and says, here's a check why don't you do something good with it. >> so they did. the results were striking. looking for a signal that cancer

cells remained after treatment, chris couldn't find one. >> that was the moment, it was a moment that you don't believe in. >> the tumors eradicated, and i haven't seen anything work that wale for this tumor. >> for libby, the news is understandably bittersweet. it comes four years too late for her jennifer, but one day soon, might come just in time for someone else's child. while the tumors were largely eradicated, some cancer cells did remain, so, they hope that maybe some traditional treatment could help completely remove the cancer. they believe they will move into a human trial in 2019. nbc bay area news. >> what's an amazing contribution by that family. >> what a great story. and we'll be right back.
