>> good morning, everybody. welcome to "today" on a friday morning. we're so glad you're with us. if you need inspiration this morning, ryan shazier. >> the nfl draft was last night. he is from the steelers. he got out there and helped pick the steelers' first draft choice. you need a moment like this. he went through a terrible spinal injury. and look at him walking proud. that's a beautiful moment last night. we have breaking news this morning. it's big. we're going to start with the historic agreement between north and south korea. the two sides coming together and vowing to end the korean war after 65 years. nbc's chief global correspondent, bill neely, is at the dmz this morning. bill, good morning. what does it all mean? >> reporter: good morning. well, this was historic and unthinkable just a few months ago. the extraordinary sight of kim jong-un walking across this dmz. and then, signing an agreement

to rid his country of nuclear weapons. now, it is vague. it does lack detail. but the stage is now set for another possible summit between president trump. president trump tweeting in the last few minutes about what he calls a historic meeting. he says good things are happening. but only time will tell. no north korean leader has ever done it. kim jong-un, stepping into south korea with a handshake for its president moon. and holding hands, the two stepped briefly into north korea. kim, given an honor guard, the pageantry rich. the peace era starts now, said kim, before signing an agreement confirming the goal of deplete denuclearization, disarming by phases. no more war, they said.

no promise, here, to get rid of his nuclear weapons, referring to his missile tests, he told moon, i won't interrupt your early morning sleep anymore. north korea's nuclear arsenal is at the heart of the talks. south korea and america's goal, clear. >> complete verifiable and irreversible dismantling of north korean weapons. >> that's why mike pompeo met kim jong-un. these new pictures of their secret meeting last month. >> i will tell you it's going very well. mike pompeo did go there. he wasn't supposed to meet with kim jong-un, but he did. they got along. they had a great meeting. >> kim jong-un was heavily protected on foreign soil. his next critical meeting with president trump. as this summit began, kim was being sued at a u.s. court. the family of american student otto warmbier claiming he was brutally tortured and murdered

by kim's regime last year. they celebrated their summit at dinner kim's wife there too. he may not swallow the last of his nuclear weapons quite so easily. >> and bill, i think the question this morning is how real is this. is this just all symbolism, is there gainsmanship behind it? we don't know how to treat this. face value or more than meets the eye here. >> i think you are right to be skeptical. this isn't the mrs. world pageant where everyone proclaims world peace. this is really serious stuff. remember where we were just months ago with a very real prospect of war. i think the change in atmospherics and rhetoric is equally real. and just again in the last few minutes, president trump tweeting again saying, korean war to end the u.s. and all its greet people should be very proud of what now taking place

in korea. i think truthfully though any more detailed breakthrough will have to wait for that trump/kim summit, the date and place of which is still to be decided. guys? >> perhaps where the rubber meets the road on their nuclear ambitions, bill, thank you very much. turning now to allegations of sexual harassment against tom brokaw. nbc national correspondent kate snow is here with more on the story. >> major nigovernight allegatio surfaced against tom brokaw and matt lauer as well. both men refute the accusations being made against them. meanwhile, another former nbc anchor an curry is also speaking out along with others. criticizing nbc news's division and the nbc news division for what they say is an atmosphere that enabled sexual misconduct and made it difficult to report. >> i was groped and assaulted by tom brokaw. >> linda vester was a correspondent for nbc news in

the 1990s. overnight variety published her allegations that veteran anchor man tom brokaw harassed her and made several unwanted advancements. said brokaw once showed up at hotel room in new york city uninvited. at first putting his finger on her lips then grabbing her. he took the same hand and reached bind my head and tried to force me to kiss him. >> she said she quickly pulled away and claims brokaw tried to kiss her again before lieaving. >> i stood there for a couple of minutes and just shook out of sheer panic. >> she said she kept a diary of the incident and told friends. both verified by variety. said a similar incident occurred in london a year earlier. accusing brokaw of turning up at her apartment and trying to case her. in a statement said i met with her on two occasion s. both at her request 23 years ago because she wanted advice with

respect to her career at nbc. meetings were brief and appropriate. and despite linda's allegations i made no romantiromantic joufo towards her. she didn't say anything at the time she feared brokaw could ruin her career. >> because of his power, i was unable to talk about it. so i was silenced. >> a second unnamed woman said brokaw actsed inappropriately towards her in the 90s as well. brokaw said no such incident happened. also overnight, "washington post" revealing that 12 current or former nbc staffers say they were sexually harassed at the network, but did not report it. that includes two new allegations against former today anchor, matt lauer. one woman claims the anchor exposed himself in his office and asked her to touch him. another says lauer asked her to have sex with her in his office.

>> i would be surprised if many women did not understand there was a climate of verbal harassment that existed. >> former today co-host ann curry tells "the washington post" overnight she was approached by a tolls "the washington post," she was approached by a physical staffer in 2012 who said she was harassed physically by lauer. at the time, she told two members of nbc management they had a problem with lauer and they needed to keep an eye on him. curry did not name the people she spoke with. a spokesman for nbc news, says there's no record of that conversation. adding, those in management of the news division and "today" at that time are no longer with the company. in a new statement to "the washington post," matt lauer says, in part, i fully acknowledge that i acted inappropriately as a husband, father and principal at nbc. however, i want to make it perfectly clear that any allegations or reports of coe e coerci coercive, aggressive or abusive

attorney in a moment. first, stephanie gosk outside of the courthouse in norristown, pennsylvania. >> reporter: new word out of the cosby camp. he said that mr. cosby maintains his innocence. but we know and believe through the appeal, he will be vindicated. you know this, verdict came as a surprise for people who watched this retrial and thought it was going to end like the first one did, in a deadlocked jury. but a new jury, a year later in the week ake of the #metoo move reached a consensus in under a day. this morning, america's dad is now a convicted felon. bill cosby guilty of sexual assault. the stunning verdict across newspapers today, just hours after a pennsylvania jury convicted crosby of violating andrea constand. listening to the verdict,

constand showed almost no emotion. but other cosby accusers not part of the case, wept in front of the courtroom, forcing the judge to call for order. >> it's a victory for all sexual assault survivors. >> reporter: while accusers breathed a sigh of relief, co y cosby's anger boiled over, facing prison time and hurling expletives at the attorney, who demanded that the bail be revoked. the 80-year-old lashing out, calling the prosecutor an a-hole. a far cry from the man who played cliff huxtable on his '80s sitcom. >> the guy was an actor for a long time and it was an act. we got to see who he really was. >> reporter: facing a devastating result, cosby's attorney is vowing to appeal. >> we're disappointed by the verdict. we don't think mr. cosby is guilty of anything. and the fight is not over.

joy. relief. gratitude for the jury, for the prosecution, for the victims, andrea constand, especially. i didn't expect this moment to happen. >> victoria, what about you? what does this conviction mean to you? >> i think it means that the justice system is working and people are believing us finally. and it encourages and inspires other women who have not yet found their voice. this is just the beginning. >> we were reading about what happened in the courtroom. you were actually there so you can tell us. there were moments that were described that you find outrageous that bill cosby was laughing. describe what that was like in the courtroom. >> that was bill cosby depravity 101. when the victims were crying and sobbing, he was laughing, he was scowling and he was mocking them. that was very painful to endure. >> in that moment yesterday, victoria, when he had that

expletive and yelled at the prosecutor, what do you make of that? this is a side of bill cosby that the rest of the world doesn't know. >> this is a side of bill cosby that we know that nobody else believed because i think the general public believes the character that he portrays. they don't see the real person behind that character. >> gloria, bill cosby was on trial once before. trial one ended in a mistrial. now, we have a conviction. what was the difference between the two? >> one of the most important ones, hoda, was the admission of testimony of five prior bad act witnesses. i want to give credit to 3 of my clients of the 33 accusers that i represent, who testified at that trial. they were subjected to a vigorous and a scorching cross-examination, where it was a smear campaign against them, where it was an attempt to discredit them, to attack their character.

and they held up and they came back with what they say was the truth about their lives. i admire them for their courage and lily for her courage and victoria and all of the others. this is now about the empowerment of women. this is about women being believed in a way they never were before. and anyone in power who abuses that power, in their family, in a community, in an educational world, political world, entertainment world, sports world, beware. women will speak out and they will not be silenced or intimidated anymore. >> we have a few seconds left. do you feel you can be at peace now? >> i feel like i can move on with my life and go back to my six kids and home and give a big victory hug. >> i feel very validated. and i feel that i am just encouraged to keep speaking out because there's so many women. and young men, who have not yet found their voice. >> the trials will continue.

sacramento county prosecutors now confirm they compared dna from the crime scenes with genetic profiles available through genealogy websites to first find the killer's distant relatives. >> this was an amazing retirement gift for me. >> we spoke with detective paul hoels who recently retired after spending 24 years on the case. he explained how finding dna from relatives helped in this investigation. >> when you find somebody that might share dna with our offender then you find somebody else and if you see they share more dna you stepped a bit closer. >> bit by bit, they narrowed down the suspect pool but they still need an item discarded by deangelo to confirm he was their man. the last sample collected was an exact match. greg has lived next to deangelo

for years and heard his neighbor yelling often. >> we had a dog that was barking and he once left a death threat for our family on our answering machine message and he said if we didn't shut the dog up he would deliver a load of death. >> he was a police officer until he was fired for shoplifting in 1979. he later spent 27 years working at a distribution center for save mark grocery before retiring last year. the company says none of his actions in the work place would lead us to suspect any connection to crimes being attributed to him. investigators have tied the golden state killer to at least t 12 murders and 50 rapes in the 70s and 80s. one victim was attacked 42 years ago. >> well, i feel a lot of us feel that he has to pay for his crimes and i'm truly glad that he's been caught and behind bars. >> major dna testing services deny working with police on this case.

investigators told me authorities took that dna profile and entered it into on anline database which helps people find genetic matches using dna data. >> that is fascinating. thank you very much for the update. >> we'll turn now for a check of the weather. >> and spring is on the the the move finally. we've got very warm temperatures out wards the rest and that will start shifting east. looking at highs today, running about 20 to 25 degrees above average. salt lake city, 84. denver 73 degrees today and then above average temps will start to move into the plains and the upper midwest. st. louis, 65 on sunday. we're looking at highs in the mid-80s saturday and sunday in dallas. dodge city gets into the upper 70s and then as we go into next week look at new york city. by wednesday, 82 degrees. charleston about 83 by wednesday. so that will be the precursor to the warmest day which should most likely be thursday of next week. we have some rain in the northeast.

years old and on his way to afghanistan, a corporal in the 173rd airborne brigade. only two months after you arrived, talked about the day that would change your life. >> we're going to do a quick reaction force movement to a group of our scouts that were ambushed up in one of the river valleys. they needed to be extracted. >> reporter: it wasn't long before bullets were flying. >> i was basically in the push-up position when i got shot the first time. it was underneath my left arm and it went between my front rear plate. instantly, i was paralyzed from the waist-down. like a light switch. >> reporter: eight difficult years passed before tyler found new purpose through adaptive sports. >> reporte >> that's when i met crystal. >> reporter: she taught them how

to rock climb and ski again. the two fell in love and decided they wanted to have a family. because of tyler's injury, that meant in vitro fertilization. >> for some families, that can be $20,000, $30,000. that's a huge burden to begin their family. >> reporter: dr. william schoolcraft treated tyler and crystal. after grants to help pay for the procedure, tyler and crystal had to come up with over $14,000 just for the chance to have a baby. you realized that the v.a. wouldn't help you with your infertility. how did that make you feel after serving your country? >> we thank you for your service but you're on your own here. the infertility i suffer from is 100% related to my injuries in combat. >> serving our country should never be the reason that you have to give up on your dreams. >> reporter: crystal and tyler refused to give up. they traveled to washington,

d.c. to lobby congress. and just last january, temporary infertility funding for veterans with service disabilities came through. it wasn't the only victory for the wilson family in 2017. >> hi, baby. oh, yes. >> reporter: of the two embryos transferred to crystal, one made it. baby matthew was born last march. >> it hit me in that moment, i'm a dad. >> it was the most magical moment, my husband had our son in his arms. >> reporter: the v.a. funding came too late for their first trial. now, they're hoping it will help them have a second child. they say the approval process has not been easy. >> they said it's been denied because your husband's injuries aren't combat-related. >> reporter: the v.a. will now cover at round of ivf. but the fight is not over. >> the thought of, my goodness,
