with more. >> reporter: good morning, craig. the actress and the hush money payment back in the news. a short-term victory for the fixer and friend michael cohen that focuses on his ability of fifth amendment right of self incrimination buying him more time. a new twist in the president's legal troubles with michael cohen. >> he represents me like with this crazy stormy daniels deal. >> reporter: stormy daniels lawsuit against the president and his embattled personal lawyer michael cohen is on hold. for 90 days. in a nine-page ruling friday, a california judge delayed the civil case at cohen's request. writing, this is no simple criminal investigation. tv is an -- it is an investigation into the sitting president regarding documents that may be subject to the

attorn attorney/client privilege. her lawyer saying justice delayed is justice denied. house republicans released the report on friday. the president claimed victory. >> i was honored by the report. it was conclusive and strong. >> reporter: democrats scoffed. >> it is a gloss on the political report document that could have been written by the white house. >> reporter: new reporting from nbc's richard engel on the russian lawyer who met with top campaign officials at trump tower in 2016. natalia veselnitskaya now describes herself as an informant to a powerful russian prosecutor. >> translator: i'm an informant. i'm a lawyer and i'm an informant. >> reporter: veselnitskaya met with the president's son and son-in-law.

she says she did not pass information about the trump meeting. friday with the german chancellor at the white house, president trump put the fate of north korean nuclear talks on his shoulders. >> i think i have a responsibility to do it. if i can't do it, it will be a tough time for a lot of countries and a lot of people. >> reporter: the president says two locations are under consideration for the summit. when asked if he had already spoken to kim jong-un himself? he chose not to answer. >> i will be meeting with kim jong-un in the coming weeks. we look forward to that and hopefully it will be productive. >> reporter: also in the conference, the president stood up for rear admiral ronny jackson. the white house figures iphysic withdrawn himself from the v.a. secretary. he pulled out of contention among controversy. the secret service saying they have no record of ever having to

intervene with dr. jackson on the road traveling with the president. the president said he had been treated unfairly. sheinelle and craig. >> kelly, thank you. to the potential peace agreement with north korea and south korea. leaders coming to historic agreement calling for an end to the decades long state of war on the korean peninsula. can it really work? nbc's global correspondent bill neely is in seoul, south korea. >> reporter: good morning, sheinelle. kim jong-un is back home. his state media is reporting the summit an extraordinary detail and praising the deal as a path to prosperity. here are in seoul and in washington, leaders are digesting that same detail of the summit and with it a lot of unanswered questions. a day after a summit like no other. old enemies making a new push

for peace. praise for the deal pouring in. from the u.s. to china, presidents are hailing this summit as hopeful and brave. kim jong-un stepping where no north korean leader ever has. into the south and into what he calls a new era. the peace era starts now, kim said. but no promise here or timetable to get rid of his nuclear weapons. no more war said president moon. a peace treaty their eventual goal. north korean state tv told kim's people about the new goal of complete denuclearization. the state newspaper showing 61 photos of the leader talking to the enemy. in south korea, too, millions who faced a threat of the north's missiles for decades watched live the promises of peace for a new generation. >> the big question that is

still left unanswered if the north korean leader is willing to give up nuclear weapons. there was no progress made on that particular and crucial point. >> reporter: agreement they signed did not mention ending the program, but old enemies acted like new friends. talking alone in the woods. toasting the foot. aware always of the -- future. aware always of the symbolism. kim well protected from threats here. kim and his wife's next date will be with president trump who said their meeting should be quite something. >> let me ask you about that, bill. are the stakes higher for the kim/trump meeting? >> reporter: yes, they are. you heard president trump confirming there will be a meeting. this summit has set the broad outlines of the deal. it is up to president trump to make it. he says he won't be played. the stakes here are huge. this is, after all, about peace

and war. president trump in the next few hours will be speaking by phone to south korea's president moon here in seoul to get an impression of the man president moon met. the man president trump will meet in the coming weeks. craig and sheinelle. >> bill, thank you. hundreds of migrants are south of the u.s. and mexico border this morning part of the caravan hoping to gain entry into the united states. president trump has said he won't allow them in, but lawyers say the immigrants have every right to apply for asylum. nbc's gadi schwartz is in san diego with more on that. gadi, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, craig. something i want to show you here. this right here would be the first thing these migrants would see if they cross over into the united states if they are successful. it would likely be an i.c.e. detention. they are prepared to be detained for weeks and months and a chance their families could be

separated. by foot, by bus, by train. the caravan arrived. once numbering over 1,000. now just under 400. mothers like katherine fleeing violence in honduras losing their belongings. she was robbed of money, papers and her phone. the clothes she wears and her daughter are all she has left. >> she says all she has left is milk and diapers. >> reporter: we watched as ashley learned to walk during the journey fourth. she said back in the home she was caught between threatening gangs. and now losing her baby girl is her biggest fear. >> what are you scared of? she says that the thing she fears the most is she will lose her daughter and daughter taken away. >> reporter: lawyers say that could happen during the plea for asylum. >> one tactic we have seen from

the trump administration is the separation of children from parents where they place children in foster care situations under the office of refugee resettlement. >> reporter: a situation made more tense by the regular tweets targeting the caravan. recently saying i've instructed the secretary of homeland security not to let the caravans of people into our country. it is a disgrace. creating more uncertainty if there is strength in numbers or if the caravan has come this far to be turned away. katherine says she has spoken with the people with the caravan who already crossed into the united states safely. one woman is in miami working with family. there are others she hasn't heard from at all. she is unclear if she will cr s cross by herself or with the caravan. craig. >> gadi, thank you. a lot more to get to, including the accusations

against tom brokaw. this week, a former nbc correspondent claimed brokaw sexually harassed her decades ago. accusations brokaw denies. this morning, dozens of women who worked at nbc news with him are leaping to his defense. we get the latest from nbc's kate snow. >> reporter: nbc correspondent tom brokaw says he is angry and hurt by the torrent of unsubstantiat unsubstantiated criticism led by linda vester. allegations he denies. brokaw writes i was ambushed and perp washed across the pages of "the washington post." in interviews published thursday, vester says brokaw showed up uninvited in 1994 at her hotel room. >> i felt this man could destroy

my career so if he said he is coming over i have to let him come over. >> reporter: at first, she says he put his finger on her lips and grabbed her. >> he took the same hand. reached behind my head. >> reporter: she says brokaw tried to kiss her before leaving. >> i stood there a couple of minutes and just shook out of panic. >> reporter: brokaw writes, i should not have gone, but i emphatically did not verbally and physically attack her. she reminded me she was a catholic. i left. 23 years later to be stunned by the mellodramatic description o the incident. her attorney would not verify the details to nbc news. vester said a year later, brokaw

invited himself to her apartment in london and tried to force her to kiss him. brokaw denies this. that move she describes is not who i am. he dismisses vester as a former colleague who left nbc news angry that she failed in her pursuit of stardom. more than 75 current and former female colleagues at nbc news have signed a petition saying brokaw treated them with fairness and respect. late friday, nbc news chairman andy lack sent a memo to employees about the allegations against brokaw. writing, as we have shown, we take allegations as these seriously and act quickly and decisively when the facts dictate. last fall, nbc news terminated matt lauer for inappropriate workplace behavior and initialled a review. that investigation is nearing its conclusion. and findings will be presented as soon as next week. critics say nbc news should have

hired an outside arbiter. for "today," kate snow, nbc news. the man called the golden state killer is back behind bars this morning after a brief court appearance friday. joseph james deangelo is accused of horrific crime spree in the '70s and '80s. police catching up with him days ago thanks to dna. nbc's matt bradley is in los angeles with more on this one. >> reporter: good morning, craig. the man accused of being the golden state killer did not match his frightening reputation in court yesterday. joseph james deangelo was pushed into the court in a wheelchair and after he arrived, he could barely speak. accused of terrorizing california for decades. the suspected golden state killer now reduced to mumbles. joseph deangelo, a 72-year-old former police officer, appeared in court for the first time friday. charged with murdering a couple in 1978.

one crime out of a dozen murders, 45 rapes and nearly 100 home invasions he is suspected of that ended more than 30 years ago. leaving a trail of trauma that for some touched to relief. >> this is the greatest day. >> reporter: in 1977, at just 13 years old, margaret may have been the golden state killer's youngest rape victim. >> my main concern was these family members were going to go to their graves without seeing justice in this case. >> reporter: for decades, it was the coldest of cold cases. thawed out when detectives matched crime scene dna matches with samples on ged match. helping investigators track down the family members of the suspect and a tactic former l.a. detective steve cooley called creative. >> it was resourceful. >> we allow the police to get this dna without a warrant and

we are saying any government agency can get anybody's dna. >> reporter: ged match was not aware how the site was being used. it is important that participants understand the uses of the dna including identification of relatives that have committed crimes for victims of crimes. a new detective method that closed a case and opened a conversation. deangelo did not enter a plea on friday. lawyers needed more time. his arranrrangemenrraignment coy 11th. this controversial evidence will be heard that put him behind bars. craig. matt, thank you. >> dylan is here with the check of the weather. >> we have light rain falling across eastern michigan and northwestern pennsylvania. this cold front will move east and bring rain up and down the east coast as we go into tomorrow. scattered showers and some pockets of heavy rain. we could see hail. this will drag in colder air.

when you have the cold air in the upper levels of the atmosphere, hail could come down. we could see wet snow across upstate new york. what you will really notice with the cold front is the very cold temperatures that work in by sunday morning. especially up across michigan. a good chance we could see record-breaking lows by sunday morning. temperatures hovering around freezing. on monday, it moves into the northeast. boston at 41. new york at 44. d.c. 40 we're waking up to 40s and 50s. upper fourth for the south bay. 49 in san jose. a little more, 51. santa rosa, 44. for the north bay, we can expect to see the chance of spotty showers making their way through early on in the morning before clearing skies take over into the afternoon. the temperature trend will remain on the cool side throughout the bay area. we will be topping out into those upper 50s along the coast and upper 60s further inland.

school carnival. this morning eight teenagers are under arrest. this is exclusive cell phone video take own campus of britain middle school at yesterday's annual carnival. school staff called morgan hill police and reported a teen was seen with a weapon. turns out the student had a knife. officers arrested him and the kid who reportedly gave it to him. police say that's when chaos erupted with multiple teens becoming aggressive. nearly 60 officers from morgan hill, san jose, santa clara county, and the highway patrol were called in for backup. >> there were also groups blocking roadways of responding officers, staying in the crosswalks, not letting them pass with lights and sirens on. had we had additional resources and officers not needing assistance at the scene, yeah, there would have been dozens more arrested. >> the teens arrested range from age from 13 to 17 years old. they were all booked into juvenile hall.

and tampa bay buccaneers. the video shot by the bystander does not show what led up to the encounter. marrow said someone in another vehicle thrown a cup of coffee at his car. he chaised the vehicle. >> two caucasian younger kids pulled up beside me and shouting racial slurs. >> you can't do that to people. >> reporter: this other video provided by another witness shows the argument got heated. >> i would shot him in the head. >> did you threaten to shoot anyone? >> i never threatened to shoot anyone. i said where i'm from stuff like that can happen if you get coffee thrown on you. >> reporter: although marrow had no weapon, the encounter escalated. police say he was not complying with instructions to lay on the ground and was trying to kick and head butt the officers.

georgia couple is desperate to have the baby in their arms and home. >> sad to see it. >> reporter: the nursery is ready. big brothers and sister waiting for little sydney. two years ago, alex and samantha tutterrow already had two boys of their own. they adopted the first baby from japan. they thought their family was complete, but then changed their minds. >> we felt we had room for one more and wanted to give another child a home. >> reporter: and in a twist, a happy accident, their daughter's biological mother in japan gave birth again and asked if the same family wanted this child too. >> we get the phone call and her biological sister. we were blown away how amazing that would be to grow up with her two awesome brothers and biological sister too. >> reporter: after the u.s. embassy interviewed the birth mother and confirmed the adoption, the couple flew to japan at the end of march.

the accreditation for the adoption agency. faith international adoptions expired march 31st. the agency tells nbc news they transferred the tutterrows adoption to another agency with accreditation. saying this was timely and done to ensure no delay in the processing of the family's visa application for the child they are adopting. the u.s. embassy told the couple their case needed further review. >> they said you can leave, but the baby can't. >> reporter: the state department says it cannot comment on individual cases. issued this statement to nbc news. the department seeks to ensure int inter-country adoptions with children or adoptive parents in the united states take place in the best interest of the child. >> here we are americans and the japanese government has no questions and no problems and has been nothing but cooperative. it is our own government that is keeping us from bringing our

school carnival. eight teenagers are under arrest. this is cell phone video taken on campus of britain middle school at yesterday's carnival. staff called morgan hill police and reported a teen was seen with a weapon. turns out he had a knife. officers arrested him and the kid who reportedly gave it to him. police say that's when chaos erupted. multiple teens became aggressive. nearly 60 officers from morgan hill, san jose, santa clara county, and the which were called for backup. >> there were also groups blocking roadways of responding officers, staying in the crosswalks, not letting them pass with lights and sirens on. had we had additional resources and officers not needing assistance at the scene, yeah, there would have been dozens more arrested. >> the teens arrested range from 13 to 17 years old. they all were booked into juvenile hall. be sure to check your medicine cabinet and cupboards.
