"today in the bay" continues right now. a very good tuesday morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. of course we have your commute times with mike inouye, but first we want to take a look at what it's going to look like as you walk out the door. >> it's going to be a beautiful day. a lot of sunshine and a little bit warmer than it was yesterday with highs reaching into the 70s for parts of the bay area. we wake up, we see a few clouds right now. as we take a live look outside at san jose, every now and then the sun has been peeking out but we'll get more sunshine later on this morning. in sunnyvale we'll be at 59 degrees and low 70s for the afternoon, which is about normal for this time of year. we'll be at 77 in concord today, 67 in oakland and 63 in san francisco. today in napa, 76 degrees. we'll talk about what else is ahead as we continue to warm up in the forecast in about seven

minutes. mike checking back with the san mateo bridge. >> last time we looked i was surprised by flashing lights and slowing. the flashing lights cleared. the slowing cleared as well. smooth drive on the flat section. no incidents came in for chp regarding any lanes or e.r. issues for that san mateo bridge so you just have more congestion right now. just mild slowing coming off castro valley through hayward. 6 skant moving toward toward fremont. the south bay shows a little slowing for northbound 101 through san jose. very little. you see the traffic is mildly building so this is a great time for your commute but also we have some stories you want to stick with if you can. pretty remarkable video to see here. breaking story we've been following overnight. a building collapsing in brazil. it happened in sao paolo. there are reports the building

used to be the police headquarters, but it was abandoned years ago. squatters typically stay there now. we're working with our foreign desk to get the very latest. facebook ceo mark zuckerberg is back in the spotlight. today facebook holds its annual developers conference in san jose but this year that company could face tough questions after the cambridge analytica scandal. >> kris sanchez is live at the san jose convention center with what we can expect today and what it could mean the next time any of us log on to facebook. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. mark zuckerberg takes the stage here at the mchenry convention center and chances are it will be a casual affair, jeans and t-shirt, that's his trademark, but a lot of developers might be thinking about this image, which is mark zuckerberg being grilled before congress just three weeks ago in a suit and tie testifying about user privacy and data. cambridge analytica is accused of using data from some 87 million facebook profiles without the users' knowledge to

influence the 2016 election. >> what we've done is really made changes to make sure no one takes advantage of the platform so we're putting precautions in place to really make sure that going forward, that everyone is safe. >> reporter: ever since the cambridge analytica data story broke, developers have been wondering what this is going to mean for them. after all, they do count on that user data to develop those third-party apps so many of us use. so that will be some of the buzz. on the nonprivacy front, developers are also talking about augmented reality and a new tech set to be announced in the coming days. of course that could be eclipsed by the main conversation and a lot of the breakout sessions are targeted to developers looking to enhance user privacy and those trusting relationships between users, facebook and those third-party apps. mark zuckerberg takes the stage at 10:00 this morning and we'll be here. in san jose, kris sanchez,

"today in the bay." >> we will continue our coverage throughout the morning. coming up in about 10 minutes, scott mcgrew is joining us to look at what we can expect from today's event. 6:04 for you. and it's may day and rallies are already getting under way on the east coast this morning. take a look here. this is new video into our newsroom over the past hour from new york. may day is largely known as a day of demonstrations for labor rights. several events are already planned right here in the bay area as well. bob redell is live in concord. bob, what are we expecting today here? >> reporter: well, good morning to you, marcus. as you alluded to, may day has historically been a demonstration for worker, for labor rights, but over time that's broadened to be a fight for those who are struggling to make ends meet. point in case a little later today, 3:00 here at meadow homes park in concord, there's about 300 people who are expected to

be rallying tonight for immigrants and people who are mid to low income. the raise the roof coalition, which is organizing this protest, is trying to get the city of concord to better protect tenants from unjust evictions, dirty units, rising rents and housing racism. that's eventually from 4:00 to 6:00 tonight again at meadow homes park. in oakland, thousands of people are expected to rally to protest what they believe are increased attacks on the immigrant community by the trump administration and local law enforcement who collaborate with i.c.e. that rally is at 3:00. there's a march at 4:00 to the alameda county sheriff's office. this morning at 10:00 the international longshoremen workers union will shut down the port of oakland and hold their own rally. this afternoon in the south bay there will be a march for immigration reform starting at 4:30 marching over to civic

center plaza for a rally that will last until 7:30. reporting live here, bob redell, "today in the bay." well, it's 6:06 for you this morning. we are actually monitoring the latest developments at the mexican border. right now dozens of migrants seeking asylum are still awaiting entry into the u.s. the u.s. has already allowed eight women and children into the united states and this is all happening at a border checkpoint near san diego. a month ago more than a thousand near guatemala began their 2,000-mile journey. many dropped out along the way. they're just trying to escape the violence in central america. president trump delayed their entry saying they pose a threat to the united states. here's vice president mike pence after he met with customs and border patrol agents. >> the 150 of men, women and many small children that are being processed at our border not far from here will be completely reviewed by our

customs officials under our asylum laws. >> and the vice president also inspected construction work under way at the border wall. if you're running low on your smartphone data for the month, san jose is covering you. today the city council could approve a plan to speed up public wi-fi. it's a $5 million deal with at&t to install small cell technology on light poles. 95,000 people would get access to internet. but experts remind us don't ever do anything private using public wi-fi. it's easy for hackers to access your sensitive information. all right. so you've got to ask yourself, wait a minute, for a second, is it really may 1st well, this is new video from the sierra showing traffic at a complete stand still. you can see the trucks just lined up there. caltrans shut down i-80 in both directions because of extremely hard hail. there were multiple spinouts and crashes there.

i-80 is now back open. and as we approach 6:08, yes, halo kui hail occurs in th springtime because of those strong storms. in oakland getting ready for the warriors game, if you're going, lucky you. at tipoff it will be 59 degrees as you head into the arena and it will be cool heading out, mid-50s. as we get a live look outside at at&t park, it's going to be busy on two sides of the bay. a lot of fans heading into oracle and then at&t park in san francisco. it's going to be cool there. make sure you're bundled up. it's going to be in the mid-50s throughout much of the game. we'll take a look at palo alto's temperature trend coming up. >> it's a good reminder the bay bridge will be busy because folks are heading over to san francisco or to oakland and may be crossing the bay for those games tonight. over here looking at the south bay all the way up the peninsula, that's an easy drive right now for 101 and for 280. we move over toward highway 4

we're going to be in the upper 40s through 8:00 and then look at what happens as we go through the day. a lot of sunshine, upper 60s, even some low 70s for parts of the bay area. after this beautiful day, what else is in the forecast? well, it continues to warm up. i'll have more on that and also a look at the rest of the microclimate forecast in about five minutes. a hazy look at a clear drive through oakland. no problem with the taillights up toward high street in downtown oakland itself. the nimitz looks good. as we look at your travel times, also the tri-valley looks great for 580. mild slowing coming down through pleasanton. we'll give you a bigger look at your commute coming up. and a very happy tuesday to you. apple will report its profits after the closing bell this afternoon. facebook holding its conference in san jose. our kris sanchez has been reporting on that. the california supreme court made a huge ruling monday about who can be considered a

contractor. this could affect uber drivers and door dash delivery people and that kind of thing. the court said if your job matches what the company does, you're a worker, not a contractor. so, for instance, this young woman parking cars for a car parking company should not be considered a contractor because the whole point of her job matches the company's mission. other news, the president has delayed imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum from the european union, canada and mexico. this comes just days after the president met with german chancellor angela merkel. germany and the eu have threatened to slap new taxes on our products if we go ahead with their tariff against their steel. laura and marcus, jeff bezos says he'll spend a billion, a billion with a b dollars a year to support his rocket program, blue origin. he can afford this. he's worth $130 billion, so that's more than he could spend

in a lifetime. bezos tells "business insider" what am i going to do with all that money, go out to a second dinner every night? that's a good point. >> i would cook for him and just charge him about $500,000 for a meal. >> there you go. hey, if you live in the south bay, soon you won't have to travel far to enjoy redwoods. work starts today on a new park called the bear creek redwoods open space reserve across from lexington reservoir just south of los gatos. eventually there are plans for a 1400-acre redwood park. it should open next spring. if you're up for a late-night bridge stroll or bike ride, you'll soon have a chance. for ten days caltrans will do a trail -- a trial run for us keeping that bike and pedestrian path open at all hours. now, this takes effect next thursday morning, which happens

to be bike to work day. it runs through may 19th. the path stretches from oakland in yerba buena island and opens between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. this is crazy video you've got to see. a dolphin versus a paddleboarder. guess who won? it happened in australia. we'll play it again, it's going viral. a group of eight or nine dolphins swimming toward the man. eventually you'll see them pop off the water and knock him off his board. he tells an australian television station, hat's off to the dolphin. >> it's all fun because we know he's okay and is able to tell them that. but that's interesting to see. >> yeah, i'm glad it happened -- >> no one would have believed him if it hadn't been captured on video. >> and then a dolphin. >> i was smacked by a dolphin while surfing. we're like, mm-hmm, okay. hopefully you don't get anything like that happening for you as you head out. we're going to have a lot more

people heading out to the coast, going surfing, getting out and about as our temperatures warm up. we're starting to see more clouds rolling across the south bay but this won't hang out long. we'll see the skies clearing very soon. let's go to santa clara and check out our temperature trend. it's going to be at 53 degrees at 8:00, low 60s by 11:00. i think it will be a great day to take lunch outside as we continue to warm up. it will feel very comfortable. the seven-day forecast now for san francisco coming up at the bottom of the screen as we check out our school day forecast in concord. we'll be at 51 degrees as you're walking the kids to school, but that sunshine makes it feel very nice and warm. lunch outside possibly today, definitely recess outside. as you're walking to pick them up and walking home from school, it will be 72 degrees. our high temperature for the south bay will be a little warmer than yesterday, still breezy. winds coming in from the northwest with highs in the low 70s. up to 77 in concord today,

danville 75 degrees. oakland expect a high of 67 degrees. and 59 in half moon bay. some pretty chilly there and also gusty. while redwood city will be up to 70 degrees. san francisco reaching into the low to mid-60s today. and the north bay up to 74 in santa rosa and 75 in novato and in sonoma. so we've been tracking a few clouds, a disturbance moving across parts of the sierra. it's been causing a few thunderstorms to fire up and the same thing will be possible today while we continue on with dry weather and no changes there. even as we head into the weekend. so let me know what your plans are. i send out weather updates and you'll stay in the know with what's going on. i've already posted this, the seven-day forecast. you'll be able to get a closer look at our forecast for the inland areas. it really doesn't change too much over the next few days but it will be really nice, comfort, dry, mostly sunny skies. san francisco stays in the mid-60s and morning temperatures in the low 50s.

now, mike, you have a new crash on the road? >> i have one new crash. i have pretty much one crash. it's a very pleasant drive right now for most. we're looking at this one crash that stands out in the middle of your screen. mostly the green stands out and that's a great drive. green speed sensors mean you're close to the limit here. there is some slowing out of san leandro heading toward hayward. the build of the commute is mild this morning. a crash cleared almost as quickly as it happened. as we zoom out we'll show you south county, we do have a little slowing heading up by morgan hill, typical pattern. atypical, the light flow of traffic through san jose. that's great stuff. same thing for the 17 summit. i want to show you the richmond-san rafael bridge, there's a build coming off of the east shore freeway but no problems. highway 4 from antioch over toward lafayette, about a half hour ago i was telling you this is a great route to avoid the

backup for highway 4. that's 54 minutes. it will save you about ten minutes if you do stick highway 4 and go down 242 because of the higher speed limit on the freeway. nbc bay area wazers is the team to join. palo alto with an easy light drive along the peninsula. the bay shore freeway is great, guys. back to you. coming up here on "today in the bay," the recent uptick in the number of sexual assaults reported by military member. first, this next segment especially timely for sharks fans. a response team tackled several cases involving problems with sports and concert tickets. consumer investigator chris mura with a savvy piece of advice to make sure you're not refused entry. >> you just got the hottest ticket in town and you want to share it with the world with a picture posted on social media. don't. thieves troll the internet looking for exposed bar codes. they rip them off, they create

reports increased pby 10% last year. at the same time, the overall reported number of incidents is nearly half of what it was in 2008. among the military branches, the marine corps saw the largest increase in number of reports. and new this morning, you'll notice lots of construction at san francisco state university over the next couple of years. "the examiner" reports a new housing complex and new media center will go up just blocks apart. they're still figuring out how many students will live in the new building, but the paper says the students could move in by 2020. the race for california governor is pretty expensive. this morning we are taking a look at just how much money each candidate has so far. lieutenant governor gavin newsom leading the pack with more than $10 -- $17 million. antonio villaraigosa has collected more than $12 million. both will be with us next week. nbc bay area and the silicon valley community foundation hosting the gubernatorial

>> and i'm marcus washington. right now let's bring in meteorologist kari hall into the fun that we're having here on "today in the bay." kari, you're bringing something that we all can smile about today. a lot of sunshine, warm weather today. >> sunshine, warmer weather. even though you head out the door, you can't still yet. it's in the 40s across much of the bay area. as we take a live look outside in san jose. let's go to willow glen and we'll be in the mid-50s at 10:00. you'll see our temperatures going straight up from there heading into the low 70s. as we check out that seven-day forecast, mid-70s for the inland areas, and then look ahead to the weekend, it's going to be a nice one with a lot of sunshine. san francisco stays in the 60s. if you're planning on staying home or hitting the road, i'll have a look at the forecast. that's coming up in about seven minutes. mike, you're looking out for a traffic break. >> i'm warning about a traffic break because chp says they may call one to move the equipment for the bay shore freeway coming toward us. southbound 101 around willow,

they do have construction crews in the area right near the overcrossing. so we're watching for that as well as the sunshine, kari is talking about it. sunrise slowdown for folks coming down the peninsula, keep that in mind, you'll need those sunglasses. the south bay, this side moves very nicely. south 880 right around fremont boulevard, no major problems, just a little build there. this crash involves a motorcycle. everything is cleared from lanes but the rider is on the shoulder. sometimes that results in a bigger distraction but really you're just over 20 minutes from highway 4 through that area, richmond and down through the backup at the bay bridge. back to you. 6:31 for you right now. if you haven't seen these motorized scooters around the bay area, you've probably heard about the issue that they're causing. people just leaving them any and everywhere. that major problem is really causing issues in san francisco. today city leaders talking about regulating the scooters so that they don't get in the way of

people. >> pete is live in san francisco to explain what's next for what's really become some controversial rides out there. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, laura and marcus. the city attorney put out that cease and desist letter to those companies saying they could not operate in the city until more regulations were put in place. this morning we didn't see too many of those scooters lying around the city. in the past 10 or so minutes, there were two scooters that were dropped off here. only one stands right now. you've got the line bike scooter that's sitting there. so it was a much bigger issue not too long ago, but right now you've got sfmta that will hold a hearing later this afternoon to talk about the types of regulations they want to put in place for companies that want to carry out this sort of business in the city. as far as the details on it, it's going to be a two-year pilot program knowns athe power scooter share program. they're going to limit to five e-scooter permits so only five companies at a given time can operate in the city.

no more than 500 scooters per company, which means there will be no more than 2,500 scooters in san francisco at a given time. it would also be a violation for any scooters that are not permitted. as far as fees go, it's a $5,000 application fee for companies, $25,000 annual fee on top of a $10,000 fee for maintenance to cover any property damage done by the scooters and to store any of those scooters that are illegally parked around the city. that is what those scooters are that have been causing problems around the city. letters were sent out to companies like line bike and others regarding this issue. they'll discuss this further during the sfmta board meeting set to take place at 1:00 p.m. live in san francisco, now back to you. 6:33. new this morning, violence in the east bay. a shooting leaves two people dead in yooakland. officers found the body a little

before midnight but they're not saying exactly when the shooting happened. we're working to get additional details, like suspect descriptions. of course we'll give them to you as soon as we get it. 6:34, continuing coverage. people really trying to get around downtown concord really just want the traffic nightmare to be over. last week we reported extensively on that fire destroying a luxury apartment complex under construction. this is video that we shot overnight of that process. crews tried to tear down the building of two of the city's main roads. willow pass road and concord boulevard. still closed. police tell "the east bay times" they're still working on time lines to reopen the roads. and a san francisco woman is desperately pleading for the return of her stolen dog. stephanie lee says her 13-year-old blind and deaf pug was snatched from outside of the whole foods on market street. it's a very popular location if you haven't been there. she says that it happened when

she went inside just to grab a cup of coffee. now, you can see from this surveillance video that we have, a woman right there with the dog walks off. you can see right there in that video. lee says her beloved dog won't survive much longer without his eye cancer medication. >> i just want him home. i know he needs me as much as i need him. he's my best friend. i feel like my heart is ripped apart in pieces. >> lee is offering a $5,000 row ward for his safe return. we now know the stranded sailboat in pacifica won't be removed until at least tomorrow afternoon. the salvage crew planned on moving it last night but apparently high surf prevented that from happening. the boat ran ashore saturday night and is still on the beach this morning. four people were onboard going from san francisco to san diego when the motor suddenly stopped and the boast just drifted to shore. everyone onboard got off safely after nearby strangers jumped in

to help. 6:35 for you right now. you've likely heard the saying what goes around comes around. well, try not to say that too loudly in front of us sharks fans. >> another overtime thriller but this one ends in a thud. sharks came home to screaming fans after a double overtime win in vegas. they tied last night's game at 3 after being down 3-1. sharks players say there's no reason to lose hope. >> i believe our game is there. i think anyone in here would tell you that. we were on the wrong end of it tonight. we'll take a look like we always do, regroup, recover a little bit and go forward. >> the golden knights lead 2-1 with game four tomorrow night at s.a.p. >> the outcome wasn't what we hoped for but maybe a different story here. taking a live look. all calm at oracle arena but come tonight you know things are going to be rocking there, because that's steph curry could be coming back on the court in action.

he's expected to play tonight against the pelicans. warriors coach steve kerr said that curry looked good during t practice, but he will have some restrictions if he plays. if you don't know, curry has been out almost five weeks with a knee injury. you know what, when curry comes to town, we're ready to see it, right, mike? >> yeah, yeah. but i don't know if you can restrict curry. you can try. >> just don't restrict the threes. >> we do have a traffic alert, folks, but light traffic for most of the bay. even this over here might be able to get around it without much issue. we are looking over towards 680 southbound. things are jamming up near treat there's a cement spill. it's not concrete on the roadway but powder in the middle of the roadway so there's going to need to be a cleanup. the chp did issue a sig alert. we see this backup on 680 and 242. that is the big issue.

take streets through pleasant hill and keep that in mind. the walnut creek interchange moves smoothly. if you jump on south of there, you are just fine. silicon valley shows a little build here and getting through dublin, look how light 580 is right now. this does not look like a tuesday, this looks like a friday or maybe some weekend traffic there. it's not the weekend right now. >> not yet. >> we're thinking about it. >> making plans and it's going to be a very nice one. we're thinking about warmer weather and sunshine. so what are you going to do this weekend? on saturday, yes, it's cinco de mayo, it's the kentucky derby. of course i'll be excited about that. now, the coast is going to be up to 70 degrees, the bay at 76, and 80 for the inland areas. and it's still going to be really nice on sunday. comfortable weather, whether you're at the coast or the inland areas into the valleys. how about heading to the tri-valley, it's going to be 79 degrees on friday. nice and warm, going out to some

in whether we all have to pay more when we cross bridges in the bay area. the bay bridge you're looking at right now, that's the example of one of them there. so this morning san francisco county transportation authorities say that the measure raising the toll by $1 will be on the ballot in june. if voters approve, a change takes effect next year. the plan does include more increases in later years. san francisco's police union would rather, quote, die on the hill than support a new contract proposal. that's the dramatic lead line in a new "examiner" article out this morning. the union says the deal is insulting. the proposal makes the union give up the right to bargain and appeal in exchange for higher paychecks. union leaders say everyone cannot have everyone they want. 6:44. "the times" says while there are questions about his family's interaction with russians, the major focus is the president's motivation to fire then fbi director james comey. the president tweeted this, this morning. it would seem very hard to obstruct justice for a crime that never happened. witch hunt. now, this is very important. the president is wrong. it goes to the very essence of his legal troubles. it is perfectly possible the president is totally innocent, that he never colluded in any way. but you can obstruct an investigation even if you're innocent. and the president has prima facie with his own words. white house records show he told the russian ambassador he fired james comey to stop the russian investigation. then he said the very same thing on television to nbc's lester holt. this was such a blatant admission to obstruction,

"saturday night live" did this. >> and you're just admitting that? >> uh-huh. >> but that's obstruction of justice. >> sure, okay. >> wait, so did i get him? is this all over? >> i hate to use comedy to illustrate a serious point, but that did it really well. other news, the white house says that an nbc news report that chief of staff john kelly called the president idiot is not true. white house insiders tell nbc kelly considers himself to be a savior to the country, protecting america against an erratic and unhinged president. kelly publicly denies that report. in fact he calls it, quote, bs. we've reported many times about the tension between trump and kelly. many of the pictures we have in fact of kelly are either doing this or face palming. it's not the first time a highly placed official has been accused of calling the president names. former secretary of state rex tillerson reportedly called the

then later today you'll be shedding some of the layers. let's get a look at that oakland school day forecast. there will be some clouds in the mix, temperatures in the low 50s as you walk or drive to school. you may have to turn the heater on inside the car for a few minutes. later today low 60s with some sunshine. and then that morning commute through the peninsula in the lower 50s through 8:00, and then once again nothing but sunshine. don't forget those sunglasses. we'll be at 67 degrees early afternoon, if you have a late lunch it will be one to take outside because it will be a little warmer today, reaching up to 72 in livermore. concord 77 degrees there. 67 in oakland. santa rosa 74 degrees. and san francisco expect a high of 63. the seven-day forecast for the peninsula, up at the bottom of the screen as we check out our live into at at&t park, seeing a lot of workers there still clearing the stands. the seagulls getting those leftovers. as we get dressed this morning, we'll need a jacket to start. also short sleeves.

you'll take the jacket off and be comfortable with the short sleeves and pants for the rest of the day. once again, make sure you've cleaned off those sunglasses and are ready for all of that bright sunshine we'll see as we go through the day. if you're going to the warriors game tonight, it's going to be really nice but cool. low 60s as you head into the arena and some mid-50s as you're heading out with some mostly clear skies. the giants forecast will be in the upper 50s at first pitch and it's going to be windy too, at times those winds picking up to 20 miles per hour, so just a heads up about that. we do have a weak disturbance that's moving through that's brought some showers and thunderstorms to the sierra, moving very close by but this will not affect the bay area. in fact we continue on with dry weather. as that moves out, we'll see breezy winds and sunshine for the rest of the day. highs in the mid-70s and not much of a change over the next few days. san francisco, breezy, 63 degrees with sunshine and some mid-60s in time for the weekend.

mike is still tracking that traffic alert. >> that's right. concord, walnut creek, pleasant hill, all these folks coming off of the benicia bridge getting jammed up for south 680 toward treat boulevard where that cement still blocks lanes. still powdered cement. they need a cleanup crew and i don't think they're going to get there until at least 7:15 to start the cleanup so that is a problem. we'll zoom out and show you where this is in relation to the benicia bridge. then look at the waze system because that will show you the comparison. if you take the route down past and through the backup, it takes you an hour and 10 minutes over toward lafayette. the good news is you can take that cut through. so we alternate throughout the morning, depending on the traffic conditions. this is the best route, the purple one. nbc bay area wazers is the team you want to join. make sure your profile reflects that team and we'll give you this information and update you

welcome back. before you head out the door, the time now 6:54. here are the top stories. >> we begin with breaking news. rescuers desperately searching for survivors after this building collapses in brazil overnight. the building caught fire and then collapsed. the local paper says at least one person died. that number could change. there's actually questions about how many people were possibly inside at the time. some reports say the building was abandoned, but squatters typically stay there. in just a few hours, your information will be a hot topic at facebook's annual developers conference which takes over the san jose convention center. a live look at it right now. as you know, the social network is under fire for its handling of your private information. less than a month after mark zuckerberg testified before congress. today he gives a keynote speech in a little over three hours at 10:00. developers count on user data to develop third-party apps so we're waiting to see how the company will balance those competing interests.

and of course we're following the development of what's going on at the conference throughout the day. scott budman will monitor any major decisions made during the conference. take a look at this, nearly a dozen portland police cars vandalized. this video just into our newsroom. protesters dumped paint on them. police say it's the first disrupted disruption for the may day event. there are several events and rallies planned across the bay area today. concord activists will gather in support of tenants' rights. other events include a longshoreman's rally at the port of oakland. there's also a march in downtown oakland and a similar event in san francisco. if you're tired of paying extra for data on your smartphone, good news for you. san jose city council could vote today to speed up public wi-fi. it's a $5 million deal with at&t to install small cell technology

on light poles. 95,000 people will get access to high-speed internet. san francisco can't scoot past the scooter conversation today. as we look live in the city, we're actually in the third stage of the regulation process. you may have seen these dockless electric scooters all over the city. people leave them just in the middle of the sidewalk. first cease and desist letters for the scooter companies. then supervisors agreed to create a permit process. today the sfmta will examine how the permit process will work. it sets limits on how many scooters companies can have and sets the rate for those fees. and the flight crew who safely landed a southwest jet after the engine exploded is meeting the president today. that pilot and her first officer are among those expected to head to the white house. one passenger died after that accident. she was apparently sucked out of the plane but everyone else onboard is okay. and it's may 1st and the
