4:01 am
and big changes ahead for america's boy scouts. "early today" starts right now. good to be with you on a thursday. i'm frances rivera. >> and i'm phillip mena. we begin this morning with breaking news overnight on the continued battle between president trump and porn star stormy daniels. after rudy giuliani, the former mayor of new york, and current attorney for the president, made a stunning revelation while speaking to sean hannity. giuliani revealing what happened after that $130,000 hush payment to stormy daniels was facilitated by mr. trump's then lawyer, michael cohen, days before the 2016 election. he said cohen was reimbursed by the president himself. take a listen. >> that moneyas not campaign money. sorry. i'm giving you a fact now you that don't know. it's not campaign money. no campaign finance violation. >> they funneled it through a law firm. >> funneled it through a law firm. and then the president repaid it. >> at one point the fox news
4:02 am
anchor even tried to interject into giuliani's revelation as giuliani claimed payments mr. trump made to cohen for his services each month were in fact reimbursements for that $130 thousands hush agreement. >> when i maerd cohen's retainer of 35,000 when he was doing no work for the president, i said that's how he's repaying -- that's how he's repaying it, with a little profit and a little margin for pag taxes for michael. >> but do you know the president didn't know about this? i bleeb that's what michael had said. >> he didn't know about the specifics of it as far as i know. but he did know about the general arrangement that michael would take care of things like this. >> giuliani's jaw-dropping admission comes just one month after the president said the exact opposite when questioned about that $130,000 payment by reporters. >> did you know about the $130,000 payment to stormy daniels? >> no. what else? >> why did michael cohen make it if there was no basis for her
4:03 am
allegations? >> you have to ask michael cohen. michael's my attorney and you'll have to ask michael. >> do you know where he got the money to make that payment? >> no, i don't know. >> and the revelation wasn't lost on stormy daniels' attorney. he reacted in real time just moments after giuliani wrapped up his interview. >> this is an outrage what has gone on here. the american people have been lied to about this agreement, about the $130,000, about the reimbursement, and this is consistent with what we have been saying now for months that ultimately was going to be proven and ultimately was going to come out. we just didn't know that rudy giuliani was going to go on the sean hannity show and admit it on national television. >> so far this morning the white house is declining to answer questions related to giuliani's comments. instead referring us to outside counsel. for his part giuliani says his admission wasn't a misstep. he tells the "washington post"
4:04 am
overnight that he and mr. trump had discussed the fact that he planned on disclosing the information. giuliani says, "he was well aware that at some point when i saw the opportunity i was going to get this over with." >> but that was not the only headline giuliani made. he also had these strong words for robert mueller and his russia probe. >> this is an outrageous miscarriage of justice. you can't possibly not feel as a citizen of the world that his negotiations with north korea are much more significant than this totally garbage investigation. do they have the power to is not? and i think they lost that power. this is a completely tainted investigation. >> those comments coming as the president's legal team goes through yet another shake-up. with attorney ty cobb now out and former clinton impeachment attorney emmett flood in. the moving coming amid signs the trust team is shifting its tactics preparing for battle with reports mueller might try to force the president to talk by issuing a subpoena.
4:05 am
so what happens if that does happen? it would be up to the president whether or not to comply and he'd have four options to consider. he could testify and answer questions like the president said he'd be willing to do last summer. he may plead the fifth and answer no questions. he could fight the subpoena. or ignore the subpoena. which would put the president in unchartered territory. nine members of the puerto rico national guard were killed in georgia when their cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff on a busy roadway near savannah, bursting into flames. miraculously, no one on the ground was hurt. officials say the c-130 had been decommissioned because it was one of the oldest in puerto rico's inventory. nbc's gabe gutierrez razz has more. >> reporter: this surveillance video captured the moments the cargo plane plummeted to the ground. >> and it went all the way on its back. flat on its back it went down to the ground, boom. >> everything was in slow motion. he disappeared behind the tree line, you saw it go nose down and the explosion came, a fireball went up. that's when i knew something was real but it still didn't seem
