live look at bay bridge it is friday, we made it through the week and now have to make it through the day. a live look at the bay bridge. people are getting a jump on the weekend. we'll check in with mike in just moments. thanks for joining us, i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. >> the forecast is looking good again today. we'll see clouds for the morning hours and slight patchy fog and then we will get some clearing today. here's a live look outside in fremont as you get ready to head out the door. no issues there, temperatures will be in the low 50s as you head out and then low 70s already by noon. we're going to have a quick warm-up for 80 degrees for parts of the inland areas and we'll look ahead to the weekend coming up and mike checking on the

overnight closure in palo alto. >> a full closure of northbound 101 towards university as you see there are cars coming in and that overnight road work cleared. they are working on the overcrossing there, pedestrian crossing around embarcadero. moving on, looking at the bay bridge, we already have folks backing up in the cash lanes. we have one lane on either side of the fast track. and then we're looking towards the east bay, tri-valley, westbound 580 moving nicely. a little slow out of the altamont. no wind advisories right now but we'll check on the rest of the commute coming up. developing now kilauea volcano erupting and hundreds evacuated. close to hawaii's national park, it started erupting late yesterday with lava heading towards where 1700 people live. as we've been telling you since yesterday, there were several

jern earthquakes soon after a plume of ash billowed. hawaii a popular vacation destination for people in the bay area. talking to people what might be heading to the big island over the weekend. >> continuing coverage, the quiet community of mill valley is still reeling this morning this after people at one apartment complex really likely had a hard time going to sleep last night because of a deadly shooting, standoff and evacuation, all unfolding on live tv. this morning two people are dead and another is critically hurt. nbc bay area talked to survivors as they piece together what happened. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. teams swarm a mill valley neighborhood looking for an 80-year-old man with a gun after he shoots two people in an apartment complex on tower drive. >> shots and some screaming. >> reporter: sara butler lives above the shooter. >> shot our landlord and killed his daughter.

>> reporter: the marin county sheriff's said -- an witness says a ran to get her to medics. >> i see a chp officer running down the street with an unconscious woman draped over his shoulder and these kind of like flopping over his shoulder and he puts her in an ambulance. >> reporter: with guns drawn, deputies evacuated neighborhoods and ran for safety. others in mill valley got an active shooter alert around 3:30 telling them to stay inside while heavily armed officers search for the shooter. >> i'm shaken -- >> reporter: parents like amelia garcia were terrified, dwesperae to hug her 12-year-old daughter. >> mommy there's a shooting, we don't know where. they locked us inside starbucks, please come and get me, i'm shaking, i'm like, she's crying. >> reporter: the sheriff lifted the lockdown when they found the

gunman dead inside an apartment. deputies slowly allowed stunned neighbors to return home. people who live in the building are hoping their landlord survived. >> prayers for mr. liu. >> "today in the bay." at 4:34, the man suspected of being the golden state killer will have to allow investigators to take pictures of his naked body. the judge is siding with prosecutor's request. the investigators will also collect more fingerprints and dna from him. prosecutors say the new evidence could lead to more convictions. deangelo is accused of being the notorious serial killer and rapist who terrorized much of california in '70s and '8 0s no yet entered a plea. on the lookout for a possible prowler. this is for people living in wil

good morning, i'm contessa brewer, here are today's top business headlines, wall street is waiting for the big economic news of the day, the monthly jobs out before the opening bell. it's expected to show hiring regains following a weather related slowdown in march. unemployment is forecast to dip down to 4%, more than 17-year low. yesterday the dow erased a 400 point to close higher but the broader market finished in the red amid earnings that failed to impress investors and worries about a trade war between the u.s. and china. right now we're hovering around the flattish mark for futures and dow off by nine points at the implied open. twitter urging all users to

they wrote it's quautro demayo. it is also may the 4th be with you. >> right. >> that's what people know it as. >> good side or dark side of the 4th. >> always good. >> but depends on when you find me. but the bright side today because the weather will look really nice. >> the afternoon starts out cloudy, we'll see clouds rolling by. we can already see the low clouds as we take a live look outside in san francisco, very top of the trans america pyramid, you can see the light is hidden a little bit by the low clouds. they are going to start out with partly cloudy skies and for that morning commute through the south bay, we'll see the sun starting to peek out and will at times have clouds moving by most of the day. and at noon we're up to 71 degrees. it's going to warm up quickly today. here's a look at all of the high temperatures, san jose up to 78

degrees. 63 in san francisco and 76ed in in santa rosa. 82 in antioch, one of warmer spots, getting dressed this morning you need a jacket for the cool morning temperatures and also it's going to warm up with some of those spots into the low 80s. short sleeves, you can do that today, it's going to feel like summer. if you're going out to the a's game tonight at the coliseum, well, it's not a short sleeve dress type day. it's going to be definitely much cooler there, low 60s and more clouds with breezy winds will be in the upper 50s. make sure you're bundled up. we're going to see an increase in cloud cover for the weekend. i know we've enjoyed beautiful sunshine but look at the cluster of the clouds and this disturbance moving closer to the bay area. this won't bring us rain but for most part we'll see partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, saturday across the bay area and few of those clouds may linger on a sunday as well too. today we're up to 80 degrees and 71 on sunday.

then once all of that clears out we'll get a boost in the temperatures for start of next week but overall looking really nice with san francisco staying in the upper 50 aes to low 60s heading into next week. as we get an update on what's happening in the roads, mike saying it's a pretty good start for the commute. >> that's right, you have to be out there 4:47, sure. it's great for that time of morning as far as roadway conditions go. the overnight closure cloer through palo alto, about 4:00 in the morning without any problems here. we're looking to the south bay. south county a great dive into silicon valley and north of there. no problems upper east shore freeway, the north bay. you see there's one crash over at discovery bay and highway 4 may have traffic control at the edge of the map. antioch and rest of contra costa, moving fine through the walnut creek interchange and concord. nice drive for oakland, 880 past the coliseum, smooth flow of

traffic. we have a smooth flow down to the san mateo bridge. into the south bay with northbound 101, we just showed you this earlier shot. things are moving slowly at the 680/280 interchange none of there. we mention anpeninsula. back to you. we're following breaking news out of chicago. these are live pictures from the scene right now, where we're finding out a federal agent is in critical condition after being shot. our sister station in chicago is reporting it happened early this morning in the city's south side while the agent with the bureau of alcohol and tobacco and firearms and explosive was working on a federal investigation. so far no one is in custody. you see investigators there at the scene, of course we'll continue to follow this breaking news out of chicago. at 4:48, our private tech companies paying fair share to use public bus stops?

most of the stops are at muny bus stops, talked to laura about the story. >> what exactly is the controversy? >> for some of these tech buses represent again tri fiction and high housing prices, it's set up to be a transportation network that allows well paid tech employees to live in san francisco but commute outside of the city. for others this is a way to unclog everyone's commute since it's taking basically about 10,000 people off the roadways but the question we're looking into, whether san francisco is giving these tech companies basically a free ride? should the city be charging them more to use public streets and bus stops? >> do we know how much the city is charging them? >> to give everyone perspective, say i picked you up at the bus stop and stopped there, i could get a $288 ticket. right now the city charges tech buses, $7.31 every time they use one of 100 bus stops throughout

santa clara driver who says the mechanic took his car for a risky joyride. >> and turned to our team for accountability. chris chmura looked into it. >> good morning, when a mechanic works on your car, you expect a test drive at the end but this one seemed to be off the charts. jeff charterton took his dodge in for minor work. when he picked up his challenger, the trip computer said someone had driven it 20 miles. >> i thought that seemed pretty excessive for something which i describe as something that you can reproduce in a parking lot. >> that's not all. jeff says the trip computer also indicated someone drove his car more than 100 miles per hour. tonight at 11:00, what the dealer did after we spoke up for jeff. plus, why we were surprised when we looked up the mechanic's license number. i'm confident the things that we learned will empower you for the next trip to the shop. if you have a consumer complaint, call us.

good friday morning as we take a live look outside in richmond. a few cars on the road but i'm sure that will change as people get up and get on their way. thanks so much for making us a part of your morning. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. let's get straight to the forecast with kari. >> it's going to be a cloudy start but won't be cloudy all day, we'll get sunshine for the afternoon and it's going to be a little bit warmer than yesterday in some spots. it's going to be a chilly start.

let's get a look out at the satellite and radar showing there will be an increase in cloud cover as i watch this system, a weak one, won't bring us rain but we'll see clouds moving in especially for tomorrow. we'll see a mix of sun and clouds after reaching 80 today. we'll bring it down a few degrees for tomorrow and then warm it back up for early next week. san francisco not much of a change temperaturewise but you won't get as much sunshine for tomorrow. i'll talk more about this and what's ahead. mike has been tracking the changes at the bay bridge. >> we saw earlier backup there in the cash lanes as we hit 5:00, we see the cash lanes have cleared up. it looks like they've opened the last of those and no problem right now. this is the lighter flow we expect to see earlier on a friday morning. we'll see this ease into the build but by 5:30 you'll have all backed up to the parking lot. contra costa in towards the
