good monday morning as we start it workweek. we can see the bay bridge lit up and ready to get us started. good morning and thanks for starting with us, i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. let's get straight to the forecast. >> we're going to see awe few more clouds moving in and sunshine this afternoon. it's going to be a warmer day if you enjoyed the comfortable weather for the weekend. expect it to be a few degrees above that for the afternoon. check out the temperature trend, 73 degrees but we're going to love that today. reaching in the upper 70s in the south bay and san francisco today 69 degrees. we'll talk more about that and moving the skycam in palo alto.

>> our traffic camera above 101 shows a smoong drive. i was concerned here university avenue, on ramp and reports of a disabled vehicle or crash in the area i see traffic entering, we're okay on the freeway but these streets -- could see anything going on through the trees there. into san francisco, a smooth drive on the peninsula. on the east bay we may have a traffic hazard of some sorts, sounds like maybe a stall and chp doesn't give a lot of details. back to you. >> sounds good. thank you very much, mike. you and your family's health might be put on hold. thousands prepare to strike at uc hospitals across the bay area. >> pete suratos is live at the children's hospital in san francisco with the impact it will have on patients this morning. good morning, pete. >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus and laura. when you talk about the impact, we're looking at hundreds of

appointments and surgeries being postponed as a result of this three-day strike. what it comes down to the union is looking to increase wages for hospital service workers and i'll qudwet to that in a moment. we're talking about the number of appointments that are being postponed and we're looking at this according to ucsf, 800 cancer appointments and 2840 chemotherapy infusions and also 300 nonemergency surgeries that are going to be rescheduled due to this three-day strike. the purpose of the strike is to increase wages for certain group of service workers which includes but not limited to janitors, cooks, security guards and truck drivers. we're talking about service workers in this case. now, the union for them is asking for 20% -- 20% raises over three years but the hospital is offering 3% over four years. there are a number of unions standing in solidarity with the groups, including the california nurses associate which will hold

a sympathy strike on tuesday and wednesday in solidarity so we're talking about thousands of nurses throughout the state joining in on this three-day strike. here in the bay area, we're looking at more than 10,000 workers joining in on the strike over the next three days. of course we'll continue to monitor things here in san francisco throughout the morning and we'll bring updates as they come in. live in san francisco, pete suratos for quts tododay quts today in the bay. >> something you may not think about that, student is likely not getting the help they need, a protest at cal state east bay will address the lack of mental health counselors for students. organizers say there is only one mental health counselor for 2500 students. it is 4:33, check your mailbox for a special envelope. voting begins in all counties today. california primary is fast approaching but the state's republican party is officially not supporting the two republicans in the race. during yesterday's state gop

good morning, i'm bertha coombs live from cnbc's headquarters. here are today's headlines. wall street could start the week on a positive note building on friday's rally. and focusing instead on tech, apple stock hitting a fresh all time high after warren buffett revealed that berkshire hathaway boosted its stake in the iphone maker. look for economic data this week on inflation as a consumer on friday the dow jumping 232 points to 24,262 and nasdaq moving up 121 thanks to apple to 7209. nestle and starbucks are joining force for a caffeine jolt to the coffee import. they'll paid $7 billion for the rights to sell starbucks products in supermarkets and

restaurants. nestle will also use the starbucks brand in its nesspresso coffee makers. trying to grab more upscale coffee makers where it is overtaken by jab holdings, with the k-cup machine. ticket master sees a future where you no longer need a physical or digital ticket to get into the event. invested in a facial recognition company called blink identity. it can register an image of your face as soon as you walk past a sensor and matches it against it in half a second or a blink. if the system gets a match it automatically opens doors or turn styles to let you in. laura and marcus, i don't know, that's why too futuristic for me. a little too minority report, don't you think. >> that is kind of strange. >> as cool as it sounds i'm kind of nervous about that one. >> thank you, bertha. new this morning, if you think you're getting a lot of robo

calls these days, you're right. eagle and his little eaglet in big bear. ness a big moment. stormy fell out of the next two weeks ago and fell 20 feet and landed on a branch. you can see there where the nest is and where stormy ended. he could fly so he was stuck there for days. his father and mother never left his side and now we want to take a moment to watch when stormy actually returned. watch the dad and he recognizes what's going on, look at that, that's my boy. back home. >> welcome home, son. >> where you been. >> that's really cool. cool to see. >> way to ruin our real touching story.

let's start with the weather. >> beautiful. and we had some cold mornings and warm afternoons and it's going to be even warmer today compared to the weekend. let's get a live look outside from our emeryville camera in san francisco. no issues with fog right now and then we'll start to see warming up as the day goes along. let's get throughout morning commute for the east bay. mid-50s to start. sunshine and making it quickly into the upper 60s by late morning. we're headed into the mid-70s by noontime. a great day to take the lunch outside. early afternoon it's going to be really warm and perfect weather for the a's game this evening. at 7:05. we'll be at 62 degrees and upper 50s into the evening with mostly clear skies and in between we're going to have a warm day up to 82 degrees in gilroy today and los gatos expect a high of 81 degrees and 82 in danville. oakland 73 degrees and it's going to be in the low 70s for

redwood city and upper 60s for pal lo at to and 70s in the mission district. and 83 today in santa rosa with some breezy winds. as we're getting started this morning, we do need layers and start out with a need for a jacket but then taking off that jacket as it does quickly warm up. short sleeves and then also great day for shorts. yes, we're breaking out the summer gear. we talk about temperatures reaching into the 80s for today, t-shirt shorts and sunglasses needed. we're also watching this area of low pressure, we can see the swirl of the clouds out there in the pacific as this moves in, it's going to bring in breezy winds but no rain once again so we do continue on with dry weather and a drop in our temperatures. how is your weekend? so christina sent me this picture of the sunset in american canyon last night. absolutely gorgeous, i love your weather pictures @ carryhall weather. you can send me yours as well. here's a look at the seven-day forecast, 80 today and it does

cool down a couple of degrees for the middle of the week with breezy winds, look at the mother's day weekend, going to be upper 80s inland and san francisco in the mid-70s over the next several days. mike, how is it looking for drivers in the south bay? >> we'll take a look. we heard about an incident on 680 around 101. don't see any problems. that would be the overpass right here. 101 itself nice and steadily flow as you would expect. again it was around 680 around king but no slowing. chp doesn't have details about any lanes blocked. we'll track that part of the south bay. give you the overall view of your bay as you look down to the south county. gilroy, san martin, made towards san jose, 17 both directions over the summit, an easy light drive. contra costa we have highway 4 off the antioch bridge and no slowing coming out there to the early commute towards the walnut creek interchange.

a fender bender reporting around the freeway, approaching 24, hoping to get more details from chp in next few minutes but if you're heading past the scene towards the bay bridge, you are met with all of this cash lane backup, fast track looking really good. it looks like they only have one cash lane on either side still closed but that's a pretty big backup right now. we'll watch as it develops or clears over next ten. >> 4:49, u.s. attorney general jeff sessions will be in san diego today talking immigration and force. . he's expected to hold a news conference with a director of i.c.e. his visits comes a week after hundreds of migrants traveled to the border seeking asylum. it's a trip you'll likely never forget. passengers of a carnival cruise ship still reeling from flooding that happened in the middle of the ocean. you can see that water gushing into the hallways and bedrooms there. this is after a pipe broke.

this happened on the carnival cruise ship dream. passengers say this is more like a nightmare. >> i was kind of scared. that's my first -- it was an experience. >> an experience indeed. that ship arrived in new orleans and dropped off passengers and returned to the ocean after the pipes were fixed. happening today, pg&e promises another million dollars for college scholarships on top of the million they already committed. it goes to oakland promise, a partnership between the city and schools and other organizations to help every child in the city graduate high school and get to college. >> 4:50, the work to end racial discrimination and inequality continues in contra costa, it will be a public forum. the first one is tonight in wall nut creek.
