m microclimate and mike is already tracking a crash on the san mateo bridge. >> we started to see trafficking backing up and see lights i'm motioning towards the high rise past that drum right there. we're looking for the traffic to back up along the flat section. there's a service lane that's designed to maintain an open access across the span and so we may see that shift over. as you get over towards the slower traffic. i'll track the updates once the bridge crew arrives. this person trying to get over there, weaving through traffic right now. encountering a lot of brakelights, flashing lights are on. there's activity going on on the san mateo bridge span. we'll see those slower chicklets kick in. the dumbarton is good access from the nimitz freeway if you're heading westbound across the san mateo bridge. that's where we're tracking traffic. the bay bridge and approach is

just fine. back to you, laura. >> thank you very much. we have breaking news just coming into our newsroom. china is now reporting its president just met with north korean leader kim jong-un during a summit in northern china and we're also working on getting video and pictures from the high level talks. kim jong-un visited china back in march for first time since taking power six years ago. president trump is expected to meet with north korea's leader in the coming weeks as well. chinese president expressed support for kim's new strategy to shift focus to stop nuclear and missile testing. we'll continue of course to follow this breaking news and any information as it comes in. decision 2018, it is going to be a big decision for you and all voters, right now the stage is set for tonight's g gubernatorial debate. >> with you and tens of thousands of others of us across the state will watch the debate live right here on nbc bay area.

cheryl hurd continues our coverage. >> reporter: over 100 people working to make this historic theater tv ready, the six candidates vying to be governor drew numbers to determine which of the podiums they'll stand behind and who will get the first question. >> the office of governor is up for grabs and for that reason alone, there will be many more people who are tuned to what's going on and interested in voting. >> reporter: it will be the second day of absentee voting in california. the first half hour of this debate will have a focus on bay area issues. the second half hour will tackle issues around the state and viewers throughout the state will have the opportunity to tune in. >> there are numerous issues here and most of them are big. people in other states will want to see how we're handling them. >> people like george zepleer, he'll be watching because he's concerned about the new federal tax law. >> a lot of people are going to flee to florida or to texas where there's no state income

tax now that california not detukt ducted. i think the biggest problem is how they'll deal with that going forward. >> chuck todd and raj mathai will ask plenty of questions tonight. that debate begins at 6:30. deputies in sonoma are trying to figure out how two people and a dog ended up dead inside a petaluma home. the deaths are suspicious this morning. investigators found the couple after doing a welfare check at the home on roblar road. the victim's sister called 911 after not hearing from her. neighbors say the couple in their 50s lived there for at least 20 years and mostly kept to themselves. >> the investigation continues in a crash last night that injured two people in the eastern contra costa county. in brent boulevard and sellers avenue. two cars collided in the intersection, this is where an area where four migrant workers

died. you may recall head-on crash. happened 14 years ago on nearby highway 4. big relief for tech start-ups. sf police say the man specifically targeted tech start-ups and say james flanagan stole nearly $100,000 worth of electronics in march and april. 4:35. controversial santa clara county judge will go in front of cameras speaking out before county voters decide to recall him during next month's primary. we haven't heard much from the judge since he sentenced former stanford swimmer brock turner to six months in jail for sexually assaulting a woman nearly two years ago. the ruling sparked outrage which led to the recall movement. we're keeping an eye on washington. president trump is expected to announce his long awaited decision on the iran nuclear deal. mr. trump says it's the worst deal he's ever seen and widely expected to withdraw the u.s.

from the agreement. allies like france and great britain and germany have urged the president to stay in it. bay area base rock climbing icon is talking about how he survived a terrifying fall on the elcapitan. >> now i've done it 110 times. >> rescue crewers were able save him eight hours after he fell on a climb that he's done many times. he's literally written a book on climbing el capitan and once held a speed record. a piece of equipment broke sending him down 20 feet and shattered his right foot and left ankle. >> i slipped upside down and had my back against the wall head down. in agony pain for a millisecond and then my body pumped me full of endor fins and looked this up. >> he tried to stay up and waited for rescue crews with his climbing partner.

picker. here are today's top business headlines. wall street could be in wait and see mode as markets around the world await president trump's decision on the iran nuclear deal later today. stocks closed well off the highs yesterday after the president tweeted he would make an announcement this afternoon. oil prices are pulling back from 3.5 year highs, traders say if the u.s. withdraws, that could hurt iran's oil exports further tightening global supplies. the dow rose 94 points yesterday to 24,357, nasdaq closing up. americans are getting charged up about electric cars. a new survey from triple a finds 20% of people say the next vehicle will be electric. that's up from 15% last year. this could bode well for tesla, which is ramping up production of the first mass market electric car, the model 3, as well as gm's chevy bolt and nissan leaf. one reason for americans' growing enthusiasm, they are not as concerned any more about not

having enough juice in the battery to get from point a to point b. microsoft announced a new feature to let you pay your bills from inside outlook. the company is interest teg greating the new payment service with the e-mail app that will allow you to make payments through messages without having to switch to other apps or sites. it will be rolled out to outlook users in the coming months. back over to you, marcus and laura. >> quick and easy. i guess we'll like it even if it's hard at first. >> thanks, leslie. >> comcast may be looking to crash disney's party. sources say comcast the parent of nbc universal planning to make a $60 billion cash offer for most of fox's assets including its new entities. that would top disney's $52 billion bid. it's contingent on whether the u.s. government approves the at&t purchase of time warner. that deal is being challenged because of antitrust concerns.

days before it heats up. as you're getting dressed this morning, it's a day for a jacket of course, to start out and why not wear your warriors colors and short sleeves as it heats up and cools down once again. as we look outside, we're getting ready for game five and we'll be definitely enjoying some beautiful weather for today as we reach into the mid to upper 60s there as you're heading into oracle, about 63 degrees and then all clear skies tonight heading out of the stadium, it will be in the upper 50s with our highs today just a little bit cooler than yesterday, up to 81 in gilroy and that area yesterday, we were hitting the upper 80s and 77 in downtown san jose. and for walnut creek, expect a high of 79, 70 in hayward and 69 in san mateo today. a little bit cooler in half moon bay at 59 degrees. mid-60s in san francisco and upper 70s for much of the north bay. and then tonight we have a gubernatorial debate at

california theater and it's going to be very nice for the evening hours around san jose and it will be at 70 degrees as we go into the 6:00 to 7:00 hour. as we look what's happening in the pacific, an area of low pressure, you can see swirls of clouds moving closer to the bay area. should be here tomorrow with an increase in cloud cover and also some breezy winds but not much of a change until we get towards the end of the week. and then if you're already making plans for mother's day, mom's day brunch in san francisco will be nice. but we will start out with clouds, cool temperatures upper 50 aegs and low 60s as we go through the day. as we check out the 7-day forecast, temperatures lr going down and back up very quickly by the end of the week we'll be in the upper 80s and peaking temperatures on friday and then gradually cooling off. we're still in this roller coaster and it's spring, we go from low 60s in san francisco to 70 on friday. mike, you have that one bridge to avoid right now.

the san mateo bridge, the lights are steady and packed in all the way up the high rise over past the peak and just as you get down towards the foster city side, that's where the crash is. all of the activity, only your right lane is open right now. they have moved everything over to the two left lanes. we saw three chp vehicles travel across, it doesn't sound like major injuries but this is a major problem for west 92. the sign behind me is lit up to talk about that crash mid-span. you'll use the dumbarton bridge and nimitz is just fine. stay clear of this crash right there towards foster city from hayward across west 92. we're hoping that clears soon because they've made progress and all of those crews are on scene but they've got to give me an update. 24 coming over here past saint

outspoken supporter of the me too movement. new details in the golden state killer case. now that that mystery appears to be solved. some wonder if the suspect had help. sacramento sheriff's department is convinced the east area rapist acted alone but sacramento bee spoke with a former investigator who crack the case. several victims heard the attacker speak to someone. that may as well have been a confused things for those victims and it's also possible the attacker was talking to himself. investigators in sacramento maintain joe see deang low is the one and only suspect. what will it take to end a backlog in rape kit testing? investigators will explain what resources are needed. the goal is to test 200 sexual assault kits by the end of next summer and put the process in place to make sure new kits get tested within a month. more details now.

welcome back, we're getting breaking news early on this tuesday morning. a reported earthquake near palm springs. this map really kind of shows you -- it widens out in the area but it was a 4.6, what we know so far. we're checking the fault lines to see if there's reports of damage in that area. we're being told right now it's near cathedral city. so out in the desert this morning. 4:56 right now. also new this morning, a state bill to limit how much opioid medication doctors can prescribe to children. it's all moving forward in sacramento. yesterday the assembly voted 53-0 to advance the bill. it stops doctors from prescribing more than five days worth of opioid drugs to minors.

there are some exemptions for emergencies. california medical association opposes the bill saying it doesn't give doctors enough leeway to make their own recommendations. >> happening now, rocket builders are on strike in california, florida and alabama. it started yesterday after workers rejected a three-year contract over travel requirements and a lack of job security. about 600 workers are on strike, including dozens of vandenberg air force base. they launched the lander on friday. it starts out cool but it will be a beautiful afternoon as we look at our high temperatures today, low 60s for san francisco. upper 70s for san jose. we'll talk about what's ahead as we go through the week still on that roller coaster ride. i'll talk about it coming up next. still watching that high rise over here westbound 92, trying to get to the peninsula is a problem. you see palo alto looks just fine. we'll show you the alternate if
