candidate event in san francisco. the offensive language used against supervisor jane kim. "today in the bay" continues right now. >> a very good monday morning to you. hope you're coming off a great weekend. good morning, i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we were talking about a weekend, nice mother's day -- >> it was beautiful weekend. weather was good too. it's good that that continues even as we go into today. we're going to get a lot more sunshine once the morning clouds get out of here. a live look outside right now in san jose, you can see the clouds right now, can't really see much of the sunrise. let's go to santa teresa, upper 60s by early afternoon. breezy and high temperatures today coming down a couple of degrees from yesterday and from what we had over the weekend. we'll talk about what's ahead coming up in just a few minutes and mike tracking a recovery for oakland. >> the good news, they have cleared all lanes now, chp just minutes ago gave us the all
6:01 am
clear for southbound 880 at 16th. only flares remain that will be a distraction as you pass by the off-ramp. no lanes blocked after the crash get agway from the bay bridge and downtown. more traffic towards hayward and richmond as well but that's your morning commute. that crash still a distraction but not much of one. behind me highway 4 at port chicago highway and another crash in the backup but they sound like both of those activity are off of the roadway. a little build for concord and walnut creek moving nicely. 680 and 24. the rest of the bay moves well except for the san mateo bridge west 92 jamming up now. they have that disabled vehicle on that high rise so this is a problem. use the dumb bar toon bridge, highway 84 westbound as an alternate. at 6:01, breaking news this morning. these are live pictures from the grand opening ceremony for the new u.s. embassy in jerusalem. calm and celebratory there but
6:02 am
certainly not the case just outside the embassy. look at the nudew video showing violent protests over the embassy itself. this is in gaza. within the last few minutes, we've just learned at least 37 people are dead and nearly 1700 injured. several people from the trump administration are in jerusalem for the embassy's opening ceremony and definitely going to be an intense day on the gaza israeli border. you can see the difference from inside to out. tracie potts is following the late he have vpments. this is very controversial. some people don't want that named after jerusalem. >> reporter: well, the palestinians don't want it there because they think the u.s. is siding with the israelis even though we have said we are pursuing a two-state solution. the dramatic photos out of of the video coming out of israel
6:03 am
had be amazing this morning as we look on the one side and hundreds gathering for the ceremony and on the other side thousands of people being hurt by gunfire, protesting this embassy opening. >> this morning, gunfire killed more than two dozen palestinians with hundreds injured as crowds grow at the israeli gaza border. they are protesting in part the new u.s. embassy opening in jerusalem today. >> the president wanted the american embassy real estate on the right side of of the town here in jerusalem. >> treasury secretary steve mnuchin and jared kushner and ivanka trump and other officials are in jerusalem for this morning's ceremony. president trump set to speak by video. >> our people will be eternally grateful for his bold decision. >> the palestinians who claimed jerusalem is their capital accuse the u.s. of picking sides and the palestinian mission in
6:04 am
washington says, quote, this move marks the end of an era, when the united states led international efforts to supposedly achieve the two-state solution. >> i think recognizing reality always enhances the chances for peace. until the palestinians reconcile under one flag, they'll never will be peace. >> today's opening breaks tradition. most of the world's embassies remain in tel aviv. >> because of that most of those countries are not dealing with the violence and the conflict that we're seeing there today. laura? >> thank you very much, tracie potts reporting live from washington. we'll continue to follow the developments in the holy land. >> 6:04. more breaking news, three people are dead including a little girl. this is after a shooting in stockton. what we know so far, a 5-year-old girl died overnight at the hospital. a man and woman also died in the neighborhood where that shooting
6:05 am
happened. two other men were hurt during that shooting and that's all we know right now. police aren't saying anything about the suspect or a motive. >> sonoma state students will have a hard time focusing on final exams, the school is dealing with its first homicide ever. these are live pictures from the campus this morning. a man stabbed another man to death at the freshman dorm around 6:00 last night. some students we talked to say the victim was a student but police will not confirm that yet. the suspect is in custody and pete suratos is at the school trying to gather new details for us and he'll join us with a live report at 6:32. >> 6:05. it could be a big day in the golden state killer case, 72-year-old joseph james deangelo is accused of 12 di killings and 50 rapes. kris sanchez is live at the contra costa county sheriff's office and we've seen a couple of court appearances.
6:06 am
what are we expecting today from court? >> reporter: we're expecting a lot of law enforcement agents will be watching to see what happens. contra costa county sheriff's department is among the folks who were trying to track him down for so many years. today he has two different hearings in sacramento, both of them scheduled for 8:30 in the morning in one he may plead guilty or not guilty. in the other his lawyers are trying to ask the judge to keep some records sealed. now the 72-year-old former police officer may not join his lawyer in court today as that lawyer asks the judge to keep the arrest warrant sealed. prosecutors say if they are released, that could make it very hard to seat a jury. several news organizations are asking the judge to unseal the records in an effort to see how investigators use the dna and genology website to connect deangelo with the crimes. investigators believe the last victim was cruz, who was 18 years old when she was
6:07 am
bludgeoned in her own home. her mother told the "today" show it was the worse thing that ever happened to her but that deangelo facing justice could help bring closure. >> i think i'm going to heal. my family is going to heal. and a lot of families are going to heal over this. >> you can see -- >> reporter: die angelo is charged with 12 murders and suspected in 50 rapes. sacramento and ventura and orange counties say they are willing to work together at 8:30 he'll be in a courtroom or at least his attorney will be. by the way he's accused of 11 different break-ins and sexual assaults in the bay area in contra costa county and alameda and santa clara county. a lot of folks are watching the
6:08 am
case closely. >> one that keeps people talking, a lot of people want to know the outcome. 6:07. this might be troubling to you. it was an unusually violent weekend at santa cruz beach boardwalk. we can tell you about a 17-year-old vacaville boy shot and killed while sitting in a car at the boardwalk parking lot. this happened yesterday and we know three teenagers in the car at the time of the shooting are in custody. officers also found the gun in the car. the shooting is believed to be gang related. meantime, in an unrelated case another 17-year-old was stabbed at the popular attraction. 6:08. happening today, a forum with eight candidates hoping to be san francisco's next mayor, angela and jane kim and mark leno will be among the candidates addressing homelessness and gentrification. the commonwealth club is hosting the forum and is it starts at 5:30. tonight's forum follows a controversial one from the

6:11 am
still slow across west 92 although lanes have cleared. it's just a flat section and the dumb bart ton bridge, look how much lighter it is. this is what we expect to see after the crash in oakland. we're starting to see the lighter flow really benefit the commute. the south bay doesn't have any problems right now northbound and the east shore freeway and contra costa county, minor slowing for highway 4. here's oakland, a lot of traffic south on 880 started to sort back out down towards hayward. back to you. >> thanks, mike. 6:11, coming up next, no ends in sight. hawaii's kilauea volcano erupts again. the reason experts say the eruptions could get even worse. >> president trump had an unusual tweet over the weekend which he said he wanted to save jobs in china. >> they are thankful that she wasn't injured worse than she was. >> a 5-year-old girl attacked by a bear near a home. how the girl's reaction to the bear may have saved her life. that story coming up at 6:24.
