right now we want to talk to kari. >> it's cloudy but we'll get clearing today and sunshine for the inland areas and it's also going to be cool for this time of year. san jose right now starting out with the cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-60s and mid-50s but we're heading into the upper 60s today. tomorrow more clouds even drizzle and gradual warm-up as we get closer to the weekend. we'll talk more about that and mike you're track being a couple of slow bridges. >> i am, the first one we're going to talk about is not the bay bridge. we're looking over here at the south bay, all the way along the peninsula, you're at speed. east bay shows slowing through hayward. it is westbound 80 coming into the area. the carquinez bridge still recovering and sky way may be out of lanes. you just saw the sensors improve and also saw the red pop up. folks chose to take 780. we'll watch to see if that

rippingles towards contra costa county. so far smooth through the walnut creek interchange and east shore freeway. we have your backup at the bay bridge because metering lights are on. in fre nonmonfremont, tail ligh past tesla and into silicon valley which moves predictably. >> breaking news in the south bay. you can see deadly shooting. this is near a san jose high school and that investigation may affect you dropping off your children this morning. homicide detectives are still on the scene there and at the nearby strip mall. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live this morning. i'm talking about two scenes. how are they connected? >> reporter: well, i'll tell you that we confirmed in the last 40 minutes that one of those two young men who was shot did die at a local hospital. but it was here that he and other young man ended up -- the car is still there in the strip mall parking lot this morning.

this is what it looked like around 2:00 this morning as san jose pd was trying to put together what happened. we're not showing you the video of the paramedics doing cpr because he did not survive. and died at the hospital. the other man was also shot but he is going to survive. san jose police tell us they are both adults but i will tell you they both appear to be very young. while that was happening, this was also happening, this is about a mile away or five blocks near calexro high school. officers were gathering casings at the scene and also were -- we saw this morning as we arrived here the san jose mobile crime scene unit head from here to there. at this point we don't know whether these victims were targeted or whether this is potentially gang related. so at this point we can't tell you whether there is an imminent

threat to the general public. i will say though, this could impact dropoff times at calero high school s which is at that other scene but if this is your local supermarket, this a lucky's there and wall green's here, you may not be able to get in as you head off to work. the whole parking lot is blocked off for the investigation. no impact though to traffic here is the blossom hill and snell. in san jose, kris sanchez, quts in the bad zbli thaty. >> more breaking news to tell you about in the south bay. firefighters are at the scene of a house fire near san jose's japantown. >> bob redell just arrived at the scene. what do you see there? firefighters behind you still. >> reporter: correct, they are doing the knockdown work. the fire is out. this fire started here on the 200 block of north 9th street in this victoria home that you're looking at right now, around 4:45 this morning. there are three people inside and appears to be a mother and

father and their adult son along with two dogs. all of them got out okay on their own. the fire department was successful in keeping the fire from burning the entire house down as you can see. there is significant damage but the house is not a loss. the fire department believes it started in the back porch and from there started to go inside. one of the biggest challenges for the fire department, san jose fire department was keeping the fire from spreading to the other houses on either side. you're probably able to see it is a pretty tight area as far as the houses being close together. san jose fire tells us they were able to put this out in about 20 minutes. >> pretty quickly able to get an all clear making sure residents were out of the structure. this is a large victorian home, we called the second alarm. a big concern with this type of construction is that the fire gets into the walls and can easily travel to the basement. we got extra personnel here to make sure we --

>> the fire department again believes this fire started in the back porch but they do not know the cause as of yet. i did speak with the woman who lives here off camera and she tells us they had a smoke detector and it did go off. but they were already awake because of the noise from the fire. everyone got out okay and no injuries. reporting live here in san jose, bob re-dell, "today in the bay." >> good to know they made it out safely. >> 6:05, developing right now, new tensions in the middle east as palestinians are out in force again protesting the new u.s. embassy in jerusalem. we've seen so many protesters and now injured as well. people on stretchers, look at that, cars on fire. multiple fires as well. it follows a day when 60 palestinians died opposing the decision to move the u.s. embassy. palestinians accuse the u.s. of taking sides in a struggle over what israel calls its capital. the palestinians believe it's

theirs. plips add the latest move could fragile what's been a fragile peace process. the white house blames the radical group hamas for the explosive reaction among palestinians. >> hamas is intentionally provoking this response. as secretary of state said, israel has the right to defend itself. >> flagrant violation of international law and flagrant violation of the peace process. >> the move is also a concern among republicans on capitol hill. president trump plans to meet with gop leaders later today. 6:06 right now. happening today in the bay area palestinian supporters plan to protest in san francisco. they promise to gather outside the israeli consulate located in the financial district. now that gathering is supposed to start at 4:00 in the afternoon. a second protest is being organized for tomorrow night outside san francisco's jewish community center.

>> and repealing daca protection, the trump administration would argue the president was right doing away with protection for nearly 700,000 undocumented young immigrants. you may recall a federal judge in san francisco blocked trump's cancellation of daca in january, the federal government wants the ruling overturned. today a three panel judge -- panel of judges from the ninth circuit will hear arguments from both sides at the southern california court. >> it is 6:07. happening today, santa clara city council will ask one of its own, caserta to resign. he's facing several allegations of sexual abuse and improper behavior. also running for the santa clara county board of supervisors the number of complaints jumped from four to nine against caserta. lisa gillmor says the allegations are credible and she hopes he leaves the council.

i'll detail that and we'll go to palo alto in four minutes. mike says it's a better commute out of the north bay. >> it is because the issue of the disabled vehicle, big rig that was blocking one lane just off the carquinez bridge has cleared. better news for folks coming in out of the north bay but also hit the congestion as more folks focus on hercules for slowing. a 20 minute drive down to the bay bridge and backup at the toll plaza. that's not a surprising pattern. contra costa county moving nicely. the bridge didn't seen any change to the flow there. we're seeing a little build for 680 through pleds anton and 880, a crash at stevenson. there's more slowing just because of that volume heading down towards union city. the dumbarton picks up a little bit of traffic westbound. that's the commute direction westbound over to the peninsula or 101 showing more traffic as well. san rafael, when i mention the north bay, people think of this stretch of 101, this is also ih

a cloudy start on this tuesday morning. at 6:14, you head out the door and it's warmer than yesterday. a lot of 50s, let's look outside in palo alto and check out the temperature trend for the take. we'll be at 56 degrees at 8:00 and mid-60s today by 2:00 this afternoon. it will be a little bit lower than where we should be for normal but we're about to warm it up a few degrees for the weekend. more on that coming up in five minutes. >> and we're looking at travel times. this shows you how nice the traffic is for 580 coming out of the altamont, slowing for 84 and 680 as you head down towards pleasanton and sunol. the south bay no major problems but i'll show you how the flow breaks out for the silicon valley. >> and very happy tuesday to you. the dow closed higher again, making it eight days in a row, its longest winning streak in months. tesla says the car that was

involved in that crash in utah was indeed on autopilot today when it slammed in the back of a truck at 60 miles an hour. the ntsb is investigating. tesla ceoelon musk tweeted what's amazing that say model s hit a fire truck at 60 miles per hour and driver only broke an ankle. the impact at that speed usually results in severe injury or death. this is one of two recent accidents where an autopilot was engaged in a tesla. utah crash on the left accident on 101 here in the bay area on the right. that one was fatal. facebook says it has cut off access to more than 200 apps because they gather too much information about you. now facebook stock turned lower on monday but when you look at the broader picture, facebook is doing just fine. this graph showing the price before the cambridge analytica disaster during the disaster and the price right now.

you can see facebook has made a full recovery. >> i want you to know just how excited i am to write uber's next chapter with you. >> uber's new ceo promised more changes at the company as he tries to undo some of the damage created before he arrived. one of the changes the uber user agreement will no longer require passengers to settle their complaints in arbitration when they complain against a driver who may have assaulted them. they can go to court with that. also going to publish a safety report listing incidents where drivers were accused of assault. a recent studly by e commerce looked at the market share and discovered it has fallen mightily. people were talking about deleting their uber app. people went to lyft, still a distant number two but uber has felt the pain of the past misdeed. >> lifted lyft. >> it has indeed.

>> cloudy skies starting out, good morning for hot coffee and may even drink it all day long as temperatures get in the 60s, this is the way we begin as we take a live look outside. in dublin, you can see the sunshining between the mountains and clouds and you can see as we start out this morning, those clouds will still be rolling by. as you check out the 7-day forecast at the bottom of the screen, low 70s today and upper 60s tomorrow but if you're going tout to some of the hiking trails in the east bay, maybe around grizzly peak or around lake chabot, cloudy skies and then clearing at 10:00. but still kinds of cool. 64 degrees and comfortable sunshine as we go into the afternoon with breezy winds picking up this evening. and then getting started and getting the kids out the door in san jose, 56 degrees, a jacket needed for the morning and still see the clouds through noon and it should be all clear as we make it inner 60s today and 69

to 74 but we're not going to quite make it there for today upper 60s and 69 degrees in antioch and livermore. 68 in concord and 61 today in san francisco looking ahead to the weekend, that's coming up in seven minutes, right now you've got to get to work and you're tracking the crash in danville. >> that's right, it seems like folks in danville will be okay. we're talking about overall a pretty smooth drive we're just starting to see the commute kick in, 6:31 and as we approach the summer for most school districts, lighter flow in the early morning hours and colleges hitting graduation. a smooth drive here. danville, 680, that crash is not presenting any problems. we'll track the build to hayward. new crash of 238, details once chp arrives on the scene but the speed sensors look okay. little build at the on ramp at the metering lights but no problem for 101 both directions northbound going over towards

the left side of the screen and the berkeley curve shows an easy drive out of the maze. there's a backup at the toll plaza, i'll show that to you in a couple of minutes. >> at 6:32. developing this morning, a shocking story. we are hearing from the grandmother of ten children who police say were tortured in a fairfield home. they range in age from four months old to 12 years old. >> pete suratos is live outside of the home with the shocking allegations and pete, i know the grandmother has been very vocal in this. what is she saying? good morning, marcus and laura, the grandmother is saying a lot. we're talking about wanda rogers, the maternal grandmother of the children. she is saying that she's taking care of seven of those children and she spoke to nbc news about some of the horrific conditions inside of that home. some of the things that she's describing is that the home was filled with animal and human

feces, even claiming that the kids did not know how to take baths and were also tortured every day all day long. those are allegations that she's making. she places a lot of the blame on the father in the home, 29-year-old jonathan michael allen of fairfield. allen was arrested and charged with nine counts of felly torture and six counts of felony child abuse. rogers provided these photos of a room where she claims allen worshipped the devil. >> he would take the baby and slap it in the face and put dukt tape on the babe's mouth and beat them up for making the baby cry and wake him up. >> investigation into the family's home on fieldstone court in fairfield began in march when the mother, 30-year-old ina rogers reported her 12-year-old missing. after police located the boy and rushed him to the home they called child protective services after finding garbage and spoiled food and feces on floor.

rogers was arrested for child neglect but was released after posting bail rogers denies the allegations calling them ludicrous. her husband's bail is set at $5.2 million. the da's office may look into filing additional charges against ina roger as well. pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> the most important part, the kids are safe. >> they are okay, thank you. >> 6:34. first lady melania trump in the hospital recovering from kidney surgery. she underwent that procedure to treat a benign kidney communication. communications director says she's doing well and will likely be at walter reed medical maryl week. president trump tweeted the first lady is in good spirits. a man accused in a violent sexual attack in palo alto is due in court for a plea hearing. authorities arrested 29-year-old eduardo chavaria diaz.

police say he pulled a teenager jogger off a popular trail near tesla headquarters and put a gun to her head and assaulted her. police believe this is not his first time doing things like this. >> this morning police are clearing up rumors around novato high school. they say there was never a threat on campus but they did arrest an 18-year-old student who allegedly sent threatening messages to a former roommate. police searched his car at the high school and found world war ii era ammunition. he was not threatening to shoot up the school. 6:35 right now, sad follow-up to a story we told you about a few months ago. search crews found the body of a missing skier from the east bay. tom mall larkky disappeared near the bear valley resort in the sierra. avalanche conditions prevented crews from finding him. weeks passed and the snow melted and dogs led searchers to the body yesterday. 6:35, more of the same in hawaii -- right here absolutely

terrifying. people living on the big island still bracing for the big one. kilauea could erupt on a scale not seen in nearly a century and could happen at any time. geologists fear lava inside the crater drains into cooler ground water below and could trigger a catastrophic steam explosion. potentially launching boulders the size of cars into the air like flaming missiles. this is really terrifying for a lot of people within the three-mile blast zone. scares me to death. >> a lot of people are really freaking out. >> kind of hard to ignore it because it makes me emotional thinking about it. >> and while people are waiting for that explosion to happen, lava keeps destroying those homes. and that air is filled with poisonous gas. >> did you feel it? thousands say they did. a quick and startling earthquake that rolled through parts of the east bay last night.

usgs says it was a 3.5 earthquake striking along the hayward fault near oakland. you know when it comes to feeling a 3.5 it also has to deal with location as well. it caught others by surprise. no reports of damage but b.a.r.t. briefly stopped its trains as they usually do they've got to check the tracks. >> we here in the bay area have a lot to smile about not to jinx anything but charles barkley says it's already over. >> warriors in dub nation know there's more work to do but have to be pumped up but already grabbing game one of the western conference finals last night in houston. i was watching. warriors showed why they are the reigning champs led by durant's 37 points and stole home court advantage from the rockets winning 119-106. game two tomorrow night in houston and game three sunday at oracle. you saw that houston fan sitting there ho hum -- >> what happened to my team.

>> we know what happened to our team. they won. this team from the warriors side of the bay -- the entire bay is a warriors territory. we're looking at a little bit of slowing but it's lighter on the left prosch lanes and that's better because it's a tuesday when most of these lanes should be packed in for most of the fall and towards the rest of the school year. as we approach summertime months for spring break for cal ended up over there we did have san francisco as well winding up sessions and we should see lighter commutes around the bay for the next few months in the morning time. we're looking over here, very slow southbound 680 towards the carquinez bridge. it sounds there's debris as you approach the toll plaza, be careful crossing that span. that keeps things lighter through the rest of concord and walnut creek interchange. we see a very pleasant drive starting to build in for san jose. this live camera obviously shows light traffic right now. >> where's everyone at 6:0. >> they are watching us, hi,

before you head out the door, here are the top stories on today in the bay-- breaking news: a double shooting near a san jose school! this is a live look at a stri here are the top stories on "today in the bay." >> breaking news, a double shooting near a san jose school, this is a live picture at a strip mall parking lot where the two men wound up. the police say that shooting actually happened about five blocks away. this is in a neighborhood right across the street from calero high school. the one man has died and another will be okay. we don't know whether someone targeted the victims or if this was random. looking live at the neighborhood near san jose's japantown, you can see right there firefighters working at this house fire. this started before 5:00 a.m. this is the back of that house. this is on ninth and east saint james. the family of three needs a place to stay at this time but fankfully no one was hurt.

>> new tensions in the middle east as palestinians are out in force again. protesting the new u.s. embassy in jerusalem. a lot of protests and people on stretchers that are injured and cars in fire in the west bank as well. it follows a day when some 60 palestinians died opposing the decision to move the u.s. embassy. palestinians accuse the u.s. of taking sides in a struggle over what israel calls its capital but palestinians believe it is also theirs. palestinians add this latest move may threaten what has been a fragile peace process. the white house blames the radical group hamas for the explosive reaction among palestinians. >> happening today here in the bay area, palestinian supporters plan to protest in san francisco. they promise to gather outside the israeli consulate located in the financial district. the gathering is supposed to start at 4:00 this afternoon. a second protest is being organized for tomorrow night outside san francisco's jewish community center. >> coverage of the deadly

clashes continues next. the white house doubles down on its support for israel. >> trump administration is fighting a bay area judge's ruling which blocked the president's cancellation of daca. a san francisco federal judge made the ruling in january but the federal government wants the ruling overturned. today a three panel judge from the ninth circuit will hear arguments from both sides in the pasadena court. >> santa clara city council members will ask another one to resign. caserta is faces nine allegations of sexual abuse and improper behavior. he's also running for the sane at a clara board of supervisors. the mayor says the allegations are credible and she hopes he leaves the council. caserta denies the allegations. a live look in fairfield, people who live in this neighborhood are stunned. this after police say that officers found ten children living in who rid conditions and tortured and abuse. the father jonathan michael
