look at san francisco, a little foggy out there. that's okay, san francisco live shot right there. the current temperatures are fairly mild in the 50s, 55 degrees for san francisco. 55 for hayward, san jose at 56 degrees. and yes, we are definitely seeing some of those low clouds out there but we are expecting some peaks of sunshine to eventually break through. here's a quick check of your san jose temperature trend as you're heading out to your lunch hour today, we'll already be in the upper 6 o's so today's forecast is looking like 70s, maybe 80s, but i'll talk more about that in a bit. we have to check in with mike first. >> low clouds are not presenting a major problem but we're looking at smooth sensors everywhere except here, west 580 out of the altamont pass and back on west 205, jammed in towards tracey, we have a disabled big rig, 62,000 pounds of big rig in the middle of the freeway trying to get a heavy duty tow truck to clear that.

it's out of gas and in the middle of the freeway. a traffic alert coming into the area. the west of 580 moves smoothly and we have a backup continuing at the bay bridge. more folks in the cash lanes but be be berkeley curve is clear. >> breaking news in florida and scare overnight. this is involving an active shooter at president trump's national doral golf club in miami. a man with a gun walked into the lobby making anti-trump statements. this was around 1:30 in the morning. arriving officers shot and injured that man, no one else was hurt and this was about 70 miles south of president trump's march ra lag go resort. authorities there are not identifying the gunman. they say it is not terrorism related but they are still investigating. parents planning to pick up kids from school are being told to watch out for thieves. fremont police warning about say

string of chain snatchings near the elementary school. >> here's what we need to look out for. sharon, for anyone in the area this has to be pretty scary? >> reporter: it is very scary laura and marcus, one of the victims was pushing a baby stroller when the suspect robbed her. now, here's a picture of the suspect from one of the robberies, all of these happened in the past month with a suspect or suspects snatched gold chain necklaces off the victims often in broad daylight on may 4th a female victim was walking on lake meade drive at 10:20 in the morning with her husband when a suspect came from behind and ripped the gold chain from her neck. in the robbery the suspect was described as a white mail. on may 5th, while the female victim was pumping gas around 5:00 p.m., the suspect attacked her and attempted to rip the gold chain off her neck. similar incidents on the 11th and 16th.

16th involved a victim pushing a baby stroller. they are described as black or hispanic or dark skinned so at least there are pictures of one suspect in one of the robberies. take another close look. if you have any information, call the fremont police department and police are warning women in the fremont area not to walk gold or shimmering necklaces. my neck looks bare because i took mine off before covering the story. do be aware of your surroundings, sharon katsuda, "today in the bay." 5:03. san francisco police looking for your help in tracking this man down. take a look. officers say he's wanted for an assault and robbery. it happened wednesday night in the tenderloin. if you recognize him or have any information, call sfpd. the suspect in the deadly crash in fremont is expected to return to court today. he was supposed to be arraigned

yesterday but that didn't happen. the 21-year-old was high on marijuana when he hit an escalade filled with a family. three of them died and five others hurt. another staffer tied to sexual harassment is out of a job. school as athletic director fired the assistant director of student services, they found he violated sexual harassment rules. happening today, pg&e goes to court. they are facing a class action lawsuit over the deadly north bay wildfires. a group of supervisors of the october fires accuse pg&e of poor power line maintenance and not preparing for high winds. we should mention investigators are still looking into the cause of all of these fires and those fires killed 44 people and destroyed more than 9,000 homes. damages are in the billions. >> at 5:04.

firefighters already seeing a lot of action as fire season begins in parts of the state. we want to show you a grass fire that broke out in san jose late yesterday afternoon. luckily firefighters were able to knock it down pretty quickly. there were not too many structures around there so none were damaged. earlier in the day high with a 101 in redwood city came to a stand still because of this brush fire on the shoulder. investigators are looking into what started both fires. and it is not just northern california. check out what firefighters are dealing with in southern california. this is a fire burning in rural riverside county. at last check more than 1200 acres had burned. that fire is 40% contained at the moment. we continue to watch what's happening in hawaii this morning. another eruption at kilauea is sending smoke and ash nearly six miles into the air. look how it fills that area.

that new -- experts are saying the eruption is the largest that i have seen so far. the ashes raining down on the town four miles from the crater. this comes two weeks after the initial eruption at kilauea. more than 27 homes destroyed so far. geologists are warning the eruption could become more violent. tourists are nixing their vacation plans to the big island costing the state big bucks but the governor is reminding everyone that this is not affecting the entire state. >> all around are still full of visitors and residents alike. we want to continue to emphasize to the world that hawaii continues to be open to business. >> cancellations from may through july hit at least $5 million. coming up later this morning on the "today" show, look at this,

miguel alma gur brings up full coverage as the volcano is erupting behind him. that's coming up at 7:00 right after "today in the bay." the countdown is on for the royal wedding. this morning the excitement and crowds are building outside of windsor castle on the eve of the big day. a live look this morning. everything going on in the streets there. as we get down to the final hours before the wedding, some last minute rearranging. we're finding prince charles will walk meghan markel down the aisle after her father decided not to come. he's having surgery. here at home it's fair to assume most of us won't are traveling ov overseas but an iconic hotel in bait area is providing a royal experience. here's a sneak peek at the royal suite. pete, not quite kensington palace but the fairmont is very nice. >> reporter: yeah, good morning

to you, laura. close enough for us folks in the bay area but we're standing on the 8th floor of the pent house suite, historic penthouse suite at the fairmont hotel in san francisco. you see this sprawling living room area here. we're talking about taking over the whole eighth floor. they have a long history of catering to royals, dignitaries worldwide as well as here in the u.s. we want to keep showing you a tour. showing you this is the library area in this suite. you can see up there there's a secret passage way that some of those dignitaries at times, i won't disclose names have snuck out in this area. what they are doing this weekend, they are going to have this prince and princess package. it is a bit pricey, i can give you the details on that. it's going to be $50,000 per night if someone wants the package. a penthouse suite as i was mentioning here, $15,000 credit at tiffany's if you get the

package and $5,000 credit at saks fifth avenue. as we talk about the royal wedding, you're getting an afternoon tea set up for 14 guests if you get this package. now, i want to show you guys this man i talked to here, i spoke with thomas wolf, the chief con see ernlg, the nation's first ever concierge, having worked in london and paris as a young man back in the '70s, he's no stranger to the royals having worked with queen elizabeth and princess margaret as well as prince charles. when we're talking about prince charles, he shared an interesting story about prince charles' stay in san francisco in the late 1970s. he said the prince's valet called him saying the prince forgot his collar stays. here's what happened next. >> i happen to have a beautiful pair of collar stays that a guest had given me and they were sterling silver, really nice.

around 100. >> wow. >> go bill, go. >> that's great. >> i love it. i love it. >> secret is having family history -- >> i guess that's good. that's a good thing. >> it is. he can enjoy the day as well. >> i'll bet he can probably run a lot further than i can. i'm not much of a runner but the weather calls for it. go on out and enjoy it because the temperatures right now are on the mild side. right now in san jose, 56 degrees winds at 6 miles per hour. we definitely got the clouds out there and of course that fog if you're out in san francisco, this is what you're seeing outside of your window. this is a live shot right now of san francisco. it's about 55 degrees right now, wind speeds at about 9 miles per hour per hour and overall your hour by hour outlook definitely shows those clouds lingering at least for the coast through the evening hours before it starts to burn off. if you noticed half moon bay, we still get the cloud cover into tonight and we are expecting some breezy to windy conditions

as well along the coast between 15 and 20-mile-per-hour winds tonight. as we heads into saturday morning, expect to see the low clouds as you wake up and we'll keep the cloud cover along the coast into tomorrow. we kind of keep it around all day long and this it starts to burn out quite nicely. the microclimate highs, san jose a high of 72, milpitas, 71. check out east bay, oakland 65. the temperatures running a couple of degrees warmer today than what we've seen earlier this week. daly city, 61 degrees, if you're heading into the city, we'll be topping out at 61 degrees and up in the north bay also expect to see nice comfortable 70s in the fwrast. over the next seven days, we're see a system develop off the west coast saturday to sunday. that's going to cool us down and bring showers just north of us. now as of right now it doesn't look like this will impact the bay area. it's mainly going to be north of the bay area but it will impact us in terms of your temperatures. just a little bit cooler as we head in towards sunday.

welcome back, it's 5:25. there were frightening moments at the mall in las vegas last night. a person actually in custody this morning after he was seen walking around wearing a mask and holding a gun. the gun turned out to be fake and no one was hurt. also new this morning, kids at one texas elementary school has a crazy storely to tell. military ammunition fell from

welcome back to quts today in the bay, the time now just seconds before 5:30 as we take a live look at concord. a beautiful calming look to start out our friday morning. i think that's how we like to keep it. >> calm in the morning then crazy at night. >> good morning, thanks for joining us, i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. we're excited for friday around here and vianey is in for kari. >> it will be great weather for the calm and also the crazy at night. we're seeing mild temperatures right now as you head out the door. san francisco 55 degrees and mountain view 54. concord also at about 56 degrees and hey, maybe you are one of those people that gets up nice and early to head out on the morning run. the jogging forecast looking good out there. 58 degrees by 8:00 a.m. i would say this is a great time to head out before we start climbing that the upper 60s and 70s, it's always nice to have a partly cloudy skies as you're heading out the door on the your

nice morning friday jog. as we head towards the afternoon, upper 60s and we're talking about 70s and upper 70s further inland. we are expecting a slightly warmer afternoon especially for east bay. i'll break that down for you and what to expect as you head towards saturday and sunday coming up in just a bit. we have to check in with mike first. >> we are carrying the backup at tracy because of the traffic alert at west 580. no word on when they get the heavy duty tow truck out there. 580 towards livermore. livermore and dublin themselves are moving nicely. the dublin grade fog coming down at the road level. be careful there and northbound 680, they are trying to get the fire out. two right lanes are blocked by a car fire but no injuries there. we also had a backup at the bay bridge and this is heavier than it was yesterday but only at the toll plaza. so real surprises guy,s back to you. >> some concerns here this morning. you might be waking up to the smell of burned tires and

chemicals, crews on the scene of a fire in the peninsula. kris sanchez joins us live. is it pretty strong out there, kris? >> reporter: the smoke smell is pretty strong still here in the air. we have a city crew just down the way triting to make sure none of the contaminated water goes into the bay. this is the o really store south norfolk in san mateo county. firefighters are know longer fighting this fire. the flames are out but the firefighters are now decontaminating and that was part of the concern about this fire, though it was only one alarm. there are a lot of chemicals as you would expect and also a lot of burning rubber inside. firefighters in there making sure there are no hot spots. but the other firefighters are outside decontaminating. they asked us to respect their privacy, we can certainly understand that. no impact to traffic at this point. but there is a lot of water on the ground and again, they put down booms to make sure it doesn't end up in the bay.

morning long. even into the afternoon. sunday we're actually expecting a system to form off the west coast. that's going to bring showers north which will cool us down just a bit in san francisco as well. 58 degrees by 12:00. so keep this in mind as you're getting prepped but it will be great jogging or running weather. that's for sure. if you're heading out to the beach, maybe tomorrow morning, into the santa cruz area, we will be topping out in the upper 60s for tomorrow. we'll catch a little bit more sunshine after the 12:00 hour again we will be waking up to those low clouds and some of that fog early on in santa cruz. if you're heading out to monterey, the temperatures will be very similar but a little bit cooler out there. upper 50s by 1:00 and 2:00 in the 60s, it will be on the cloudy side on monterey, said out to the afternoon and it might be better. a little bit more sunshine. if you're heading out to napa on sunday, maybe doing wine tasting, this is when we're expecting to see a little bit

this is a live picture right now. you can see just how foggy it is, we have the low lying clouds as well and it's about 55 degrees right now. and overall the coastal fog can definitely be seen in some parts of the north bay as well as half moon bay, really along the coast and towards hayward and the livermore area as well. in terms of your temperature change, it's a little bit warmer in san jose. everywhere else not too big of a difference and your hour by hour outlook into tonight, if you're wondering when we're xpeking these clouds to clear out, by about 7:00 we'll still see that cloud cover along half moon bay. maybe even towards palo alto but rest of the bay area fares out nicely. we'll get peeks of sunshine into the evening. as far as your saturday morning, we'll definitely wake up to more of the cloud cover. especially along the coast, you can see it here from san francisco down through half moon bay and santa cruz mountains as well. as you look ahead towards saturday afternoon into the evening, we're expecting pretty

pleasant weather. your daytime highs as i mention running a couple of degrees warmer in some spots, san jose topping out at 72. now further inland in the east bay, this is where it's a little bit more noticeable and antioch, 78 degrees and walnut creek 74. peninsula mid to upper 60s, in the city, upper 60s and low 50s and north bay santa rose a at 7. if your allergies have been acting up, watery eyes is not helpful when it comes to wearing eye liner. the tree pollen has been very high and stays high. grass is moderate and mold and weeds are low. take the medication on the go and as we head in towards saturday, we've got this system developing just off the coast. that will bring showers just off to the north and it doesn't look like it will be impacting the bay area but it might cool us down a bit towards sunday night. so overall it's going to be one of those great weekends that we can definitely look forward to. we've got a lot of things going on in including bay to breakers

on sunday. that will include cover cover but the temperatures will kick off in the 50s and kind of stay in upper 50s, let's go and check on the roads with mike. >> doing my own impression of the bay to breakers in the newsroom. we have updates. a good update for some and not so for others. over here the south bay a. a nice easy drive and peninsula good flow as well. even though we have the cash lanes and early backup and bigger than sometimes we see on a friday and heavier than fre, the bay bridge toll plaza. the berkeley curve moves smoothly. backup only at the toll plaza. pretty typical pattern at the toll plaza for friday. a smooth flow of traffic getting into the area. metering lights are on. that's the only slowing we see. over here at concord and all of contra costa county, pretty much looking great at speed. we have this towards livermore out of the altamont pass. those lanes are all clear now. in the last couple of seconds west 580 all lanes cleared from the big rig but that will let a bunch of traffic towards the

at 5:55, it's a practice no other oil producing state in the nation allows, dumping of oil waste water into open unlined ponds. our investigative unit found hundreds are still operating. >> they are concerned waste water is carrying toxins underground and polluting clean ground water. here's senior investigator stephen stock. >> experts tell us percolation ponds much like these threaten some parts of the california's

future water supply. we found hundreds of these ponds from monterey to kern county. in some cases the toxins from the ponds are already migrating and have reached once clear underground water. in california, oil is brought up from deep underground by injecting millions of gallons of water into wells. when that mixture comes back to the surface, the waste water contains chemicals that are toxic to humans, proponents of this pond disposal method say the soil and bacteria at the bottom of the pond filler out the toxins and that does happen. but new evidence shows that not all of the toxins are filtered every time. that worries environmental scientists who say these percolation ponds may threaten future water supplies. >> it sets us up for a future where we are going to be less certain that people will not be exposed to hazardous chemicals in their water supplies. that kind of uncertainty keeps me up at night. >> under california law, it's
