area weather, but we need even more to see our beautiful american royalty one more time. she is perfection. royalty recognized, absolutely beautiful in this givenchy gown. a way to make america proud. >> it is such a timeless look. she went with the classic all white, the detail just a nice plain but classic color. they will look back at those photos and it will never be out of style. >> no. and her veil has a flower for each country and the british monarchy and including a flower for the california poppy because she is from california. we will recap the tremendous royal wedding, but i should say unfortunately, we have to get to the bay area. >> that is all right because the bay area weather is okay as

well. they have a lot more sunshine in wind zr. we still have cloud cover here. and that has led to a marine layer that has been sticking around the past couple days. and we are expecting to see mild temperatures right now. right now temperatures in the 50s, 55 right now in san jose, 55 in san francisco. and coastal fog definitely showcasing some of the fog especially along the coast and half moon bay. temperature difference right now, not too big of a drop, but we are expecting to see slightly cooler temperatures this weekend. i will break down your daytime highs coming up in a bit. all right. we look forward to that. and as we just gushed, it is wedding day. if you somehow missed it, let us be the first to tell you californiia iaian meghan markle now officially a royal. and the wedding was gorgeous, what every girl and some guys might dream of. here is meghan walking down the

couple giving their fans what they want, a sweet kiss there at the top of the stairs. everyone was there of course. the queen, prince william, du h duchess kate and their children. it was truly incredible. i'm not a royal watcher by any means. but as of this morning i am a convert. it was a flawless wedding. a melding of progressive american values with the classic british royalty. it was really an exceptional joining of the two nations. and as we mentioned, the new duchess of sussex as her new title is not only american, she is from california. this morning more than about 150 people gathered at a sold out watch party here in the bay area. and that is where we find rob plater with all the local excitement.

good morning, roz. >> reporter: and some folks are still left here this long after the ceremony was over. they watched rather quietly, there were some oohs and aahs when the bridesmaids and pageboys came up and of course wild applause at the end of the ceremony. let's show you a little bit of the happenings here. they rolled out the red carpet about 3:30 this morning not long after that, the pub was packed. folks dressed to the nines wearing their fascinators and their top hats and replicas of meghan's ring. there was cake, most sipped tea as they watched the ceremony unfold on more than a dozen tv screens. most had grabbed a family member or friend to watch with them even at this hour of the morning. >> my first royal west wedding was princess diana and charles. and i love the royal family. they are so fast narting. >> we've been best friends for over 40 years, so we do

high school outside houston, texas. last night this memorial for the victims. at least ten people students and a teacher were killed and ten more severely injured when a student opened fire inside the school. it is a theme that sadly has become all-too familiar. students and staff running for their lives as s.w.a.t. rushes in. the 17-year-old was dressed in a trench coat and armed with a shot coat and revolver. dimitrios pagourtzis surrendered and promptly arrested. yesterday the judge denied his bond and we are now learning the names of some of the victims. ian colt has more. >> no community should ever have to go through this again. >> reporter: children moufrning t mourning their murders of their friends. nine students and one teacher killed, including to family members chris stone and shawna fisher. officials encouraging the

community to support one another. >> be strong like santa fe has proven to be and keep the love that you all have. >> reporter: just after classes started, the fire alarm goes offer and students pour out of the building in panic. >> we heard three gun shots. >> active shooting. >> reporter: police say the suspect 17-year-old student dimitrios pagourtzis walked into the high school with a .38 revolver and shotgun and opened fire. officials say the guns belonged to pagourtzis' father. it is unclear if he knew his son had the weapons. >> if you are a parent and you own guns, lock your guns safely away. >> got to go. come on. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: uncertainty that has become all-too familiar. a devastated community trying to move forward. ian cole, nbc bay area news. and with that, another senseless shooting leads to

frustration and to activism. once again whatbay area studente making their voices heard. students gathered in san francisco at city hall to protest the deadly shooting and lack of action from lawmakers. a large group from mill valley say it is time for gun reform like assault weapons ban. many rally even if they couldn't attend and also support from adults. >> politicians are not willing to do the work to keep us safe. >> i feel for the parents, you know. because i went through it. i'm still mourning. my baby is gone. >> adults say it is time for them to get involved and support the students' efforts to create change. those students say while they are not old enough to vote, they

will see some sun, but it will be a cooler weekend for us all. the driver accused of driving high and triggering a deadly crash on 880 in fremont is out of jail and not facing any charges at least for now. it is a stunning twist in a horrific crash that left two children and a woman dead. this is 21-year-old dang tran being escorted out of jail. he quickly got into a car and he had no comment for our cameras. dang was scheduled to be arraigned on three counts friday but that never happened. the d.a. had 72 hours to file charges and because no charges were filed, california law says authorities had to let him go. >> it is not unusual that he was released because he has to be released if not charged within 72 hours of his arrest. but many times people are rearrested once the forensic data is available to the d.a.'s

office. >> according to the chp, tran was driving at a high rate of speed on 880 near the stevenson off-ramp tuesday night. he caused a chain reaction crash that killed three people, an adult and two youngsters. a 12-year-old girl is still in the hospital fighting for her life. now to embattled former santa clara city council member on leave from his position as a high school teacher pending the outcome of the sexual assault investigation against him. at least ten police reports have been filed by former students at santiago sclar are santa clara high and by his campaign staff. he also withdrew from the county supervisor race. he repeatedly denies that he did anything wrong. a bad start to the weekend for some folks, some angry and die natu deflated neighbors say their tires were slashed.

>> reporter: that hadn't been the best week. m marcel found his car vandal iz ized. and he hasn't had the time or money to have his car towed. >> now i had to go talk to my dad and i'm a student, so i don't have that much money. >> 12 cars total end of the day. just somebody randomly coming through and obviously they had something against this whole street here. >> reporter: scotty manages one of the apartment buildings and he says that act of vandalism isn't just costly and annoying, it could have been dangerous. one of his tenants nearly had an accident. >> started losing control of his front end and didn't realize that he had had his tires slashed. it wasn't deep enough to really puncture it. >> reporter: that tenant made to work safely. there are security cameras, but

so far he hasn't spotted anything in the video that could i.d. a possible suspect. >> why do people do that? your wheels were stolen once. >> yeah, brought back some memories. well, let's get a look at our weekend forecast. at least better news there. >> a lot better news. because conditions will be clou cloudy, but we're expecting to be nice and cool which will be great to be enjoying the cooler temperatures. san francisco, you can see the low clouds. that is all thanks to the marine layer that has been lingering and sticking around. we had the same conditions right afternoon this time yesterday in san francisco. and currently right now the temperatures remain on the mild side. we're in the 50s. 5 54 for hayward. san francisco in the 50s. and we are definitely seeing the fog hugging the coastline from santa rose down through san francisco. and some spots even in the santa cruz mountains. so if you had planned to head to

the beach, i would say maybe not the sunniest beach day and maybe even a little on the breezy to chilly side. so maybe hold off until tomorrow. we're also seeing spots further inland like livermore. if i take the time line through about 8:00, you can see just how long the clouds linger. we'll see some clearing in areas like oakland, san jose will keep cloud lover cover as well. morgan hill will start to clear out. and if i fast forward it all the way through tomorrow early morning, so we're talking 6:00, 7:00 a.m. we're expecting more clouds and then the temperatures will remain on the cooler side. we're actually going to notices a nice little drop in those temperatures. your daytime highs, san jose about 71. mill p oakland, 63. and along the peninsula, i expect to keep the breezy conditions. winds might kick up especially into the evening hours. is san mateo, 64. if you are heading into the city, 61 for mission.

and out near the north bay, 56 degrees for point rey. sand rosa, 74. wind speeds, as i mentioned, we're expecting a bit of a breeze especially into the evening hours. if i take this through saturday at about 9:00 p.m., we'll see some winds between 12 possibly upwards of 15 miles per hour. and then if i take this all the way through sunday, you can see it starts to pick up tomorrow at about 5:00 p.m. so definitely kicking up in terms of the winds. about 19 miles per hour in redwood city, san jose will get a lot of that breeze as well. but expect to see the winds peeking out. your pollen report, once the wind clears out, we might get relief from the pollen. trees high, grass is moderate. and we'll see a slight drop in the temperatures and then monday, there is a bit of a system developing off in the pacific that might bring some showers just north of the bay area. but right now it looks like it

the past couple mornings. and we are expecting the clouds to linger unyou fortunately for the majority of the day, temperatures will remain on the cooler side, so it will be a bit of a nice little coming blanket over the bay area, a nice natural ac especially coastal fog right now, you can see it hugging the coastline all the way from the top of the bay area which is around the north bay area down through santa cruz and if you will be heading down to monterey, expect that cloud cover to really linger. but i'll talk about when the sunshine will finally make its appearance coming up. >> yeah, i think it is the one day we have worse weather than england. the queen knew who to call. thanks. ♪ and just when you thought you were safe, you can't escape it, it is all about the royal wedding today. millions watched around the world. it is our top story of course. i mean, i'm beaming from it. meghan wore a beautiful givenchy

a carriage ride through the streets. thousands gathered to get a glimpse of the happy couple. and it is not just outside. they invited 1200 subjects from around the uk to watch the ceremony from the gardens of the church. and so of course the entire royal family was there for the ceremony. the queen herself, prince william and kate with their children who were part of the wedding. markle's mother was there as well and lots of american stars. serena williams, oprah, george clooney and his wife amal. it was a star-studded morning. and apparently there is a breakfast going on right now and the black tie reception will happen tonight. so lots more excitement to come. as we mentioned, the new duchess of sussex is her new title, and she is american and from california. this morning more than 150 people gathered at a sold out

watch party at 3:00 a.m. roz plater is there. and you look fabulous. >> reporter: thank you. i had to wear my fascinator hat so i could fit in with everybody either. this was the place to be. as far as we know, the only real time watch party in all the bay area, so it was packed. and people watched i think in awe. there were some oohs and aahs when she came out in her gown, when the little bridesmaids and pageboys came out. and also of course when they did the kiss at the end of the ceremony, there was wild applause. let's show you some of the crowd that was here. people came all the way from the east bay because again this was the place to be. as soon as the doors opened here at 3:30, the red carpet was rolled out. more than a dozen screens that they could watch the wedding on. there was a cake here. they had british flags that they could wave. and plenty of tea to sip. now, folks dressed to the nines

wearing their fascinators and their top hats. and replicas of meghan's rings. most had grabbed a family member or friend to watch with them even at this hour of the morning they paid attention to every detail and for some of them, it was very emotional. >> i'm surprised by the dress. i think the train was very cool. she looked beautiful and the flowers looked amazing. the chapel was beautiful. wish i could be there, but this is the next best thing. >> a beautiful ceremony. just happy to see harry happy and happy that he chose meghan. a big fan of lady diana, princess diana. so just happy to see her boy. >> reporter: a lot of people here very emotional, very tied to the royal family. they popptopped off the ceremon with a breitish breakfast. and they had some cake, that apparently pretty much all gone now. but they shared wedding cake and at 6:00 a.m. they got to toast

welcome back. this memorial taking place last night at santa fe high school outside of houston, texas. at least ten people, a teacher and were killed when a student opened fire inside the school. a scene that is sadly becoming very familiar. students running for their lives as s.w.a.t. teams swoop in. a 17-year-old student dressed in a trench coat and armed with a shotgun and revolver, again nine students and one deeper killed and ten more in the hospital this morning. dimitrios pagourtzis was promptly arrested. yesterday he appeared before a judge who denied his bond. authorities say the suspect has no criminal history, but investigators say he wrote in journals on the computer and his cellphone about wanting to shoot up his school. so far no obvious motive. officials say the guns belonged to the shooter's father. it is unclear if he knew his son had those weapons. we are now learning the names of some of the victims.

according to family members, chris stone was one of the students who died. and another is shaw in smana f. the texans confirming that j.j. watt has volunteered to pay for the victims' funerals. he lives about 35 miles away from santa fe. steph curry also expressed condolences for the victims. >> a tragic situation that hurts your heart when you think about kids going to school, being safe and obviously glad they said something about it. it is an issue that is way bigger than basketball, way more important than basketball. something that needs to be addressed. >> curry has been an outspokened a vow today the for gun control in the past. our coverage continues on our website, there we put a map showing the more than 300 school shootings in the u.s. since

outside. right now we're keeping a lot of the marine layer around, and that is making a lot of the areas see very low clouds throughout the afternoon as well. hayward is 54. san jose, 55. and we are expecting to see a change for the daytime highs. the reason for that is partly because of the marine layer, but we are also expecting a system to form off the coast that might bring showers just to the north of the bay area. now, that coastal fog you can really see it hugging the coastline there, all the way from santa rose down through the santa cruz mountains as well. and as we head in toward the afternoon, we'll see some of that partly burn off. but it we'll keep we'll keep it around as well. if you take you through hour by hour, we see it linger until tonight at about 8:00 p.m. especially for areas like half moon bay and out through san francisco as well. and if i take that time line in and kind of showcase it through

sunday morning, you can see we're also going to be waking up with some of the cloud cover early on sunday as well. and unfortunately, that is going to make for a foggy bay area sunday morning and then we'll keep a lot of those clouds as well through the most of the evening hours. your microclimate high, san jose, 71. east bay, 72. if i head toward oakland, 63. high ward 65. half moon bay, 56. redwood city, 67. near mission, if you are heading into the city, it will definitely be on the breezier side especially as we head in towards tonight and into tomorrow. sunday is expected to be a combination of breezy weather and cooler temperatures. now, i want to take you through your wind speed and direction, you can see through about 9:00 p.m., we start to see some of the winds near redwood city and half moon bay. if i take it through sunday at about 5:00 p.m., we start seeing a lot of the winds really kicking up especially along the

coast on. redwood city and even in san jose, we might get that breeze as well. pollen report, trees is high. grass moderate and mold and weeds are low, but if you will be outside, definitely take that allergy medication. and tomorrow perfect rubbinning weather. 50s in the forecast but also cloud did conditions. so it might be chilly, may want to take that into consideration when you pick your outfit for tomorrow morning. sunday 58 degrees. we keep the 60s on the map in san francisco for the next seven days along with the cooler temperatures headed out through your inland areas as well along with some of that cloud cover that is expected to linger in through monday. it is 7:46. still ahead, the lemm marijuana business is having money problems, but probably not the kind you are thinking of. the trouble california's newest industry is having with banks across the state. the work week .

facing a dilemma. marijuana is legal ere... but it welcome back. pot businesses in california are facing a dilemma. marijuana is legal here, but it is still illegal under federal law and most banks won't open business accounts for people in the industry. liz wagner has been looking into how this predicament is derailing the new weed business and joins us with what she found. >> reporter: as long as the banks say no, the industry will run on cash. and lots of it. the state estimates a billion dollars in new tax revenue alone from growers to the government, everyone says it is dangerous and bad for business. and we discovered that there is no solution in sight. you're looking at photos of a pot farmer after he was pistol whipped and mugged leaving a dispensary. he is always on alert because bad guys know that they always carry weed and cash. a lot of it.

>> puts knee a sticky spot. >> reporter: he doesn't want us to use his name, but he invited us to his farm where he tells us most banks won't touch his cash. and if they do, it is not for long. >> within two months, the account was closed and i was told to come pick up all my money. they said it was a high risk account. >> reporter: so growers have had to come up with other ways to stash their cash like turning it into cryptocurrency. they go to special atmes to buy bitcoins and then wire to new accounts. >> banks have no problem with a wire transfer. >> sounds like a lot of steps to go through to deposit your own money. >> especially when you are trying to be compliant. >> reporter: now he drives his cash 600 miles to a bank in l.a. where he can disguise where it came from. >> up here they see me with $7,000 worth of came, in $20 bills and it is very obvious thathe cannabis

industry. >> reporter: and others know that they are bigger targets. >> this is an armored vehicle. >> reporter: these agents work for a company that hauls cash for cannabis clients. >> millions on any given day. >> millions in cash? >> yeah. >> reporter: it is especially dangerous during tax time. we're drivering to a dispensary in san francisco where the agents pick up the owner's taxes. jeff breyer says where any other business would just write the government a check, his clients have to pay cash. >> they didn't have a banking solution, but a lot of cash. so those were chunks of a half million each approximately. all rig >> reporter: and the government has to take all that cash which can be a burden for small offices like monitterey county. the treasurer's office phased out cash a decade ago. >> now we have to focus on cash when we were moving away from that.

>> reporter: the county spent 300 grand on security guards, new machines and whole new room. >> this is our secure accounting facility. >> reporter: these local governments wouldn't be drowning in cash if the feds would take marijuana off their list of illegal drugs. cannabis companies could start using banks and credit cards. >> it would make life a lot easier for us because then we could facilitate the payments electronically like everybody else. >> reporter: but there is no federal resolution in sight. and some business owners say california failed to come up with solutions before we became legal here in january. >> legitimate individuals -- >> reporter: we asked the state treasurer about it. did the state do enough to prepare? >> a lot of people driving to move forward. there wasn't enough subject matter expertise. >> reporter: so he formed a panel of experts to study work arounds. and now he is looking into a state run bank. he says the problems could impact everyone, not just pot

businesses. >> when you eliminate credit, a lot of the economy goes. >> so the stakes are high for a lot of people. >> it is daily operations. >> do you think the state as a whole is treating this issue with the same high stakes? >> i know we're working very hard, i know that they are working hard upstairs. >> reporter: in the meantime our pot farmer is still waiting for a safe place to put his money. something better than where other growers in his neck of the woods have stashed their cash for decades. >> there might be a billion dollars buried in the hills at least. >> reporter: pending legislation would allow state licensed badges to issue special checks to weed businesses and we've learned several credit unions are working with people in the cannabis industry. and while some dispensaries can now process debit or credit card payments, if you want to buy weed, still bring cash just in case. back to you. >> liz, thanks.
