good monday morning to you. 4:30 to start off our day here on "today in the bay." not necessarily a clear sight in san francisco but of course we will get on our way with the morning and kari will have a look at that in a few seconds. thanks for joining us this morning. i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. kari is back and a nice forecast? >> it looks really nice. we'll start out with the fog and clouds and drizzle near the coast but as the day goes along it will be slightly warmer into the afternoon. a live look outside in san jose, clouds rolling by and it starts out with 50s, we'll stay in the mid-50s through 9:00 and clearing skies we'll make it in the 70s for today.

and still going to be a little bit cooler than normal but we'll talk about what's ahead for the week coming up as we head over to mike, you've got a look what what it looks like on the early start. >> we have scattered incidents. we have one major issue for a roadway that typically is an issue, 680 towards 580. a lot of folks will cut over and handles a lot more traffic than norris canyon. crow canyon is currently closed and you'll have to take bolinger down to norris canyon road which is okay right now. but we'll track that incident because it cuts the corner and could be a major factor for folks. we'll track that for the reason for the closure, that's the breaking news, back to you. >> it is big breaking news we're covering this morning out of the tri-valley area. that crash he mentioned, at least one person dead. a car ended up in a pond between castro valley and san ramon. >> we had a crew there through

the night and bob redell is there now. what do we know so far? >> reporter: well, laura and marcus, chp did confirm within the past 30 minutes that rescuers did find at least one body in the vehicle that went into the pond. right now we're in uncorporated alameda county, hour and a half west of 680 on crow canyon road. as you look west you can see the lights and that looks like a wrecker involved in the removal of the car from the pond. the pond is located in that general area where the flashing lights are. the fire department released these pictures of firefighters getting ready to pull the vehicle out of the water. the call went out at 8:00 last night. chp and alameda county fire department, they responded. we know the coroner's office has been called out because of the person found inside the vehicle. again, we don't know if there were any passengers inside as well. but we do know at least one person was found. no estimate on when this stretch

of crow canyon road will reopen. reporting live here in unincorporated alameda county, bob"today in the bay." look how okchaotic things g the night the deathly north bay wildfires. this video is coming from hundreds of hours of police body camera footage. in one clip officers try to evacuate someone who initially believed they should try to save their home. >> sir, you're going to put a lot of people in danger, the fire is two houses over and coming at us. >> it's huge, one of the biggest i've ever seen. >> sir, we need to get you out of here. please get in the car and leave. >> get in my car, ma'am. >> the fire, so terrifying. tell me it's just this neighborhood. >> no, it's not, the whole hill. >> so hard to hear because we

all know how it all ended. the man in the first clip, he eventually did evacuate. santa rosa police officers tell the bay area news group they turned on the camera because they recognize this fire would be historic and it certainly was. 4:34. the grief continues after a tragedy in texas. santa fe high school will stay closed until at least tuesday. this is following that shooting where ten people died on friday. mourners yesterday held funeral services in houston for one of the eight students. that student was from pakistan. here as part of an exchange program two teachers also died. students are trying to find their strength in faith and prayers. >> we need to lean on him we're going to come back in this community and santa fe is strong. >> you just heard from a santa fe student among a group of seniors taking part in graduation services yesterday. >> it's 4:34.

peninsula students join lawmakers to fight against gun violence. scott weiner and assemblyman and students will be in daly city to announce new legislation. it's not clear what the bill will call for but the students involved have been involved in protest against gun shows held at the cal palace. past efforts have been vetoed by the governor. we hear it all the time, wear your seat belt. you need to especially listen if you're in union city. because local officers will be on the lookout for parents who do not strap their kids properly. this is all part of the national click it or ticket campaign. those numbers show nearly half of people killed in crashes in 2016 were not wearing their seat belt. those numbers were even higher in crashes that happened at night. now to decision 2018 and things are certainly heating up. you probably noticed the election ads on your radio and

social media sites. less than three weeks to go before the june 5th primary and they will unite to urge voters to pass a bridge toll hike. regional measure three is calling for tolls to increase to $8 by 2015. bay bridge toll would increase to $9. mayors from san jose and san francisco and oakland all support that measure. they are holding a rally at the ferry building in san francisco this afternoon. coming up at 5:30 this morning, kris sanchez looking closely how this measure could affect you. >> coming up here on "today in the bay," as customers continue to wait for preordered model 3 teslas, elon musk announcing a high performance upgrade to the car. what customers can get for more than double the cost. >> it is time to stock up on chicken wings. we're going to tell you right now is the right time to buy a tasty snack.

highlights this morning. >> i had it on making dinner. >> and had to help with math homework. >> a lot of fun. so we're starting out this morning with some clouds and mild weather. here's a look at our temperatures as you get ready to head out the door, it's 53 degrees in oakland and san francisco. also 53 in livermore and morgan hill. we're pretty much all about even and it's a cool start as we go through the morning commute. mid-50s through 8:00, now we'll see those clouds rolling by and then we'll get the sunshine again today in the south bay. that morning drive still will be cloudy at times and mist and drizzle in some spots and then by noontime we're at 68 degrees. it will be a nice one as we head up to 72 today and check out the 7-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. oakland will be up to 65 for the high today. 75 in concord and 77 today in santa rosa. in half moon bay, 59 degrees. getting dressed this morning, you do need the long sleeves but

also good idea to have the hat especially if you're looking out the door and see the low clouds, it's not going to be that much of a good hair day until later on. then as we go to concord checking out our temperature trend, 58 degrees at 8:00. reaching into the mid-70s. i know we've been waiting for warmer weather. it looks like it will be slightly warmer today that's after we shake the clouds and we also still had the gusty winds over the central valley, feeding storms firing up over the sierra. and we'll still have some more rounds of showers and storms over the mountains over the next couple of days. looks like that's not going anywhere. still quite a bit of heavy rain and lightning too. as we look at our seven-day forecast, 75 today and it will be gradually cooling down as we go through the week. low 70s for the rest of the week but no major changes here. we'll stay in the low 60s for san francisco morning clouds and drizzle. mike, you're tracking one major

closure. >> that's right, but it's not a freeway. this is a major surface street over here, just to the west of 680. we'll show you the speed sensors on the freeway and overall they are looking great. scattered incidents getting clear from the chp report. we may get clear over the course of the next half hour or so. still waiting for confirmation, bob redell has been reporting the closure over there at crow canyon road because there's a deadly crash -- an investigation going on just off the freeway. cars in the water and they have it closed there, bollinger canyon road. if you make the cut to 580, use norris canyon. traffic is light through that area right now. easy drive through contra costa, of 680 the crash out of the lanes. 580 past the merge with highway 13 that was off the roadway. bay bridge toll plaza with cash lanes backing up but starting to show the typical compression and should see all lanes open in the

next couple of minutes. on the peninsula, northbound with the tail lights from university where we're looking all the way north towards san francisco, same thing south with headlights down to silicon valley. back to you. >> 4:50 right now. now to the latest on hawaii's big island. that lava continues to destroy everything in its path. it's now reached the ocean. this is a picture of what it looks like. a massive white plume. you request see known as laze filling up the air. it sends hydrochloric acid and steam with fine glass pearticle in the air. can damage people's lungs and irritate your eyes as well as skin. the first sear serious injury has been reported. an airborne chunk of lava actually hit a man inside his home. here's his neighbor. >> in the hospital now and we'll see if he loses a foot or not. >> can you imagine that?

wish him a speedy recovery. that man is expected to survive. so far nearly 30 homes have been destroyed. >> at 4:50, happening tonight in san francisco, a town hall meeting on the dramatic arrest of two car burglary suspects. police spotted 23-year-old maurice jones and her shell hail breaking into a car in japantown. jones was caught by hale took off in another car. he struck police cars at one point and officers fired at him but no one was struck. hale eventually arrested. tonight's town haul meeting 6:00 at the hamilton recreation center. a vandalism case has people talking in union city. the suspect's name might make you chuckle. police say he goes by the name little t snoopy. police say that they are serious about catching him. he tagged several buildings last week which you can see here in these pictures. little t snoopy.
