francisco praef hey, it's thursday morning. good morning to you. 4:30 and live look at san francisco where the skies look clear. the sales force tower is lit up. prf /* and i )m laura garcia. mike has some "flooding" to report... >> we're tracking rain very close to the coast. we'll see an increase in cloud cover and a chance of rain in theth bay mainly tlaer this evening. mobile radar and getting a scan on that. so far looking all dry as we go into tonight.

that's when our rain chances will go up and also into early tomorrow morning. looks like for the most part today is going to be mostly cloudy, showers possible for north bay. i'll talk more about that coming up. mike, you have flooding to report. >> not because of the light rain but because of last week. southbound 280, 87 connector, as i understand may have to close again south 280 to 87 that ponding because sounds like there's a pump prone as it was last week. still trying to get more details. if chp has anything different to report i'll let you know. same pattern, slowing off bird. crash southbound 101 at hillsda hillsdale. may be a quick traffic break over the next few minutes past 92, cars in the lanes. i'll update you in a few minutes. breaking news out of north korea. the country says it demolished a

nuclear test site. only a few foreign journalists were on hand to see it, though nuclear experts were not. the demolition announced by north korean leader ahead of the summit with president trump next month. that meeting still in doubt. president trump has demanded that north korea denuclearize before any negotiation. obviously we'll continue to follow the breaking story and bring you more as it comes in. continuing coverage in a gut wrenching story we have been telling you about all week. a man accused of attacking a 3-year-old woman and stealing her purse turned himself in last night. they believe it's the same man portrayed in the surveillance pictures at the bank of america sun valley mall. the victim broke her hip during the attack. she remains in the hospital. the family says they are glad that suspect is in custody. police say he may be responsible for similar robberies in the south bay. >> and to hawaii now, the

the district sent him a letter to say he would be transferred to liberty high to asteroid disruption. here is some of what was said last night at the meeting by students and parents. >> his advocacy let's student who aren't given a voice. we will have lost one of the best teachers the >> my opinion provoke that incident. can you call it by whatever name you want to, but his actions, he was being an adult bully. >> he did not attend last night's meeting. no final decision has been made. >> eddie garcia holding town hall to discuss safety issues with district 9, willow glen. recently there's an a spike in property crimes. tom hall at the camden community center at 6:00. south bay city of morgan hill is growing. there's ground breaking on the project that will expand the

city's downtown. the sun sweep project expected to bring 80 new apartments on 3rd street. not just homes but on the bottom retail use. construction will take about a year. >> 4:36, good news for riders in the east bay, may be on the way to livermore. they will vote on extending the line from the current if stations. it would likely cost more than a billion dollars. they are looking at other options including new e b.a.r.t. line similar to the one on antioch. >> warriors have a huge game tonight, trying to reach the finals for the fourth season. >> the warriors left heading off to houston. best of sen 2-2. klay thompson and andre is questionable. if you want to cheer on the boys tonight an official watch party

good morning, i'm leslie picker live at cnbc global headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street could be set for a mixed day of trading. the markets reversed early losses yesterday to finish higher after the fed says it would be comfortable letting inflation rise temporarily. that's reassuring investors the fed won't be too aggressive in hiking interest rates, which affects consumers borrowing costs. look for economic data on unemployment and home sales. dow rising 352 points, nasdaq closing 47 to 4725. apple is narrowing the scope of its self-driving car program.

"the new york times" reports after being spurned by mercedes and bmw am is now teaming up with volkswagen to change vw advance into self-driving shuttles for apple workers. last year the times reported apple scaled back plans to build its own self-driving plans to focus instead on developing the software and technology. ups will start charging an extra $150 next month to deliver oversized packages. this comes as u.s. investing billions to expand and automate sorting facilities. the changes are aimed at discouraging retailers from shipping heavier products that could slow down operations. ups may partner with trucking firm to handle home delivery of heavy and bulky items. back to you, scott and laura. >> next time you buy a bike, youler ride it home. >> that would be best. thank you, leslie. today could be the last straw at mcdonald's. people who run the biggest food

american flags at arlington national cemetery, an annual tradition. the event markets beginning of memorial day weekend. it will take all day to plant flags in the more than 284,000 headstones. but a nice tribute and a nice thing to remember what memorial day is all about. a lot of people think, oh -- not just furniture sales and mattress sales it turned into. >> let's check your weather on this very important holiday. >> we know that for the unofficial welcome of summer. it's going to be turning really hot around the bay area. we're going to have a lot of changes as we go into the next couple of days. taking a live look outside in fremont, you can see that flag waving there. hopefully take in memorial day ceremonies on monday. as you get started this morning, we have mostly cloudy skies. in the mid-50s by 3:00 in fremont, then some clearing again for today. those clouds will be lifting. we'll get some sunshine as we go

into the afternoon. at noon already at 66 degrees with highs heading into the low- to mid-60s. oakland 63 and 69 in san jose. still really cool for this time of year. also breezy winds in the seven-day forecast shows that heat up in the forecast over the next few days. getting dressed this morning, you do need a hat, fog, mist and drizzle. also the jacket because it will be breezy through the day. you especially need the jacket if you're going to be out there at avaya stadium for sju graduation ceremony. there will be several through the day but the first at 9:00. rain approaching the coast now. as of now we're looking good but there will be spotty showers especially for the north bay as we go into tonight and early tomorrow morning. doesn't look like we're all see rain but there will definitely be a chance and much higher rain chances as you go just east of the bay area into friday as well

as saturday. so i'll talk more about that coming up in just a few minutes. mike, a crash and still that flooding. >> a couple of incidents. first the crash, take you out there. also the alert for san jose. westbound 580 north flynn that's your commute direction. as the commute builds out of the altamont corridor we have a crash blocking your left lane. the initial reports indicated it was a truck versus a motorcycle. so we're hoping that wa a s just glance of the motorcycle but we'll let you know as we find out more. i do see traffic jamming up. at the tail ends, changing from red to orange. they may be clearing lanes. i'll get an update as soon as chp can give us time for that. meantime slowing cleared from the sensors, connector closed, so is the slow lane southbound 280 to 87. that connector is closed. exit off bird and take city streets over to 87. this is exactly like it was wednesday. one lane closed now. over the course of the morning, remember, by the time this show

helen's up the road. because of that we set out to figure out if home owners and insurance policies will cover damage from volcanoes. we got conflicting answers. information institute language said most policies provide coverage for volcanic eruption and ash. so does your policy have volcano insurance or not? i really can't say for sure because insurance policies vary. we can't issue a blanket statement here, but we can show you where to find out in your paperwork. your policy should have a section that says perils. that's where you should see a list of what's covered and what's not. that list might even open up your eyes. you might have less coverage than you think for floods, rodents, mudslides and earthquakes. let's talk about earthquake coverage real quick here. there is zero gray area. it is never just included. if you want earthquake coverage,

i wantolks if you're heading to the airport sjc off highway 87. approaching memorial day weekend, some will be making that getaway this morning. traveling south 280, take 880 to get to that same area to avoid this interchange. again, this is closed right now. for more detail, she just arrived on scene i'm going to hand it off to kris sanchez. kris. >> a lot of commuters are going to say, are you serious? this is happening again. 280 leading to 87 connector, slow lane is closed right now because of this flooding. we're told by chp this appears to be the same problem as last week. last week there was a pump that appeared to have failed, intended to use groundwater off the highway. turns out it was a breaker and caltso resolve the problem pretty quickly. so chp has caltrans en route. they are hoping again it is a
