up. but over to bob redell over off the east shore. and we have this crash and a couple of crashes. what is going on? >> reporter: well, mike, we're at eastbound 80 at the carquinez bridge at the pomona street off-ramp and even though this is reverse commute and this isore going to tahoe for memorial day or the bottle rock concert in napa. the chp won't have all of the lanes reopened until around 10:00 a.m. right now only the far left lane is open because there is so much debris. you see the mangled shipping container, that was on the wreck of the big rig and in that container was canned pineapple. and the driver -- it was a sole accident and wrecked this morning around 1:30 and did not apply the brakes and rolled over. there was a driver behind him, a good samaritan according to chp, who stopped and got out of his
6:03 am
car and realized the big rig was catching fire and he pulled the big river driver out unconscious and began cpr. that big rig driver was life flighted hot hospital and major injuries but expected to survive. chp pointing out that they believe that good sam did save his life. because otherwise he could have burned up in the big rig itself. now talking about the second accident. this occurred in the back-up after this major accident here with the big rig. this involved a sedan, a driver of a sedan, it was an older man, hit the back of a another big rig and the driver was stuck in the car, i talked to a chp officer and he said he and two fellow officers crawled in through the back of the car and while he was stuck in the driver's seat performed cpr and took turns to perform cpr. they did get him out but unfortunately we just got news that he did not survive that crash. so the fatal accident that occurred in the back-up and then the major big rig accident that
