upper inland area. 93 in antioch. and in oakland today, 80 degrees. as we look at what's happening out there on the roads this morning. we've had a couple of issues this morning, but all sensors are green. if you do have to work this morning, it is looking good. our drive times are looking like it's all green which is of course some good news. more on weather and traffic coming up in just a few minutes. >> thank you much. good news for the san jose fitness store. you can see how close this car came to making a surprise early entrance there. the adjacent column stopped that car in time. happened after 2:00 a.m. on the alameda. the car took out a bike rack. the driver was walking around afterwards. we don't know yet how it happened. >> i know that spot. a developing story this morning, two people died in a plane crash.

the ntsb is heading to the scene and we're learning new details about what happened before thath >> here is what >> reporter: planes continue to fly out of the petaluma airport as emergency crews went to work on the ground. >> it was choppy and not fully running. >> reporter: they claim the plane was making strange noises right after take yuf. >> we kind of saw it as it was going up in the air. we noticed it was sputtering quite a bit. >> reporter: petaluma police got multiple calls of a plane crash just after 4:00 p.m. an older white male was described. police say he had a female passenger on board. >> next thing you know, it wednesday sideways then the thud into the concrete. >> reporter: the faa described

the plane as a vans rv-6. >> it's our understanding that it was taking off and it may have attempted to return to the airport. >> reporter: nbc bay area news. also a fight breaks out at delores park. a man might have been stabbed in the melee. that victim was rushed to the hospital and is going to be okay. several people were detained but no one yet has been arrested. safety has been an issue at the park. police increased patrols. officers out in full force through the end of today watching for distracted drivers and people not wearing their seat belts and of course people driving under the influence. several people have already been arrested. this person was arrested for impaired driving. he rolled his car near the

golden gate bridge. >> there were five passengers in that vehicle ranging from 16 to 21 years old. even one of the passengers was sitting on the lap of another passenger as they were driving. >> here's another possible dui crash. happened in san jose early saturday morning. police say the driver of this mustang drove off 880 and crashed starting this fire. thankfully two people pulled that driver out. >> pretty much helped him cross the road and then checked if there was any person inside the car. >> no one else was in that mustang. the two rescuers said the driver told them he was drunk. also today is the last day b.a.r.t. trains will not run between pleasant station. buses are provided to get riders between those stations, so you are able to get around. meantime, it's a busy opening weekend for b.a.r.t.'s newbuh and

you can expect more because it is memorial day. it goes to pittsburgh center and antioch. service began just saturday. it's 4:35. the white house confirms the u.s. delegation traveled to north korea yesterday. ahead of that possible june 12th meeting between president trump and north korean leader kim jong-un. after abruptly canceling the seminar, the president said the meeting might go as planned after all. it came hours after kim met with south korea's president reaffirming his commitment to denuclearization. while many doubt kim will follow through, some say any step at reducing north korea's arsenal is positive. here's marco rubio. >> this is man who has had to survive in power for many years as a dictator. >> have the meeting. everyone smiles, smhakes hands, and agrees on a work program

today in the bay - on this memorial day holiday. it's 4:44 on your memorial day weekend as7$ú$ we take a li look at fremont this morning. beautiful night out. it is still night. >> and it's also memorial day even though it is still kind of nighttime. this also starts the boating season on the san joaquin delta. there were a lot of folks out there this weekend. this is video from just yesterday. the weather was perfect and beautiful, but if you're headed out there, make sure you are prepared and you stay safe. the coast guard is reminding boaters to wear a life jacket at all times, not just when you're moving. 80% of drownings involve people who were not wearing a life jacket. also remember that alcohol can be even more dangerous on the

water than on land. in fact, drinking contributes to more deadly boating accidents than anything else. finally, be sure your boat has working fire extinguishers, radios, and navigation lights. >> and bring lots of water out there. because it is going to be a warm one. >> and make sure you drink lots of water and also wear the sun screen. you've got the protective layers. for some people it's going to be a shock. we haven't had weather this hot in quite a while. but we start out already at 60 degrees. morgan hills, 53 as you get ready to head out the door. oakland now at 56 degrees. this will be one of the spots where it does heat up fast going from 62 degrees at 6:00 this morning to 71 degrees at 9:00. and then some low 80s already by noon. the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen showing we'll have a bit of a cooldown as the week goes along. today the hottest day of the weekend. hottest day so far this year.

90 in santa row is a and napa. 91 in concord. and in antioch, looking at a high of 93 degrees for today. as you're looking out the window, maybe you've got to get ready for work. if not, it's a good day to put on a hat and sunglasses. also a nice summer dress. we are having to get out the summer gear. if you can, make it a beach day. great day to break out the swimming suit. yes, it's that time already as we are going to see a lot of people out there on the beaches as well. if you're planning to go to ow you the temperatures for today. upper 50s at 10:00. now, this will be the nice and cool place to go. there will be just enough of an on-shore flow to keep the beaches clear. and if you will be traveling or if you know someone coming back home today, the big concern right now will be the subtropical storm alberto that's going to be affecting the southeast. there's going to be a lot of rain across the southeast as we

go through the day. some of the hotter temperatures across the south reaching into the mid-90s today. we're also going to have some pretty warm weather. very hot today up to 90 degrees. then just a little bit lower tomorrow. but still pretty warm. 72 degrees on wednesday as we get much cooler air moving in. we'll be in the low 70s and comfortable on thursday. looking at san francisco, we will see the highs reaching into the mid-70s. nice cooldown as we head through the rest of the week into san francisco we'll be in the mid-60s for the rest of the week. and as we get a look at what's happening out there on the roads right now, been watching to see what's happening on 280. there was a possible deer in the road. so watch out for that. as we look at what's happening for much of the east bay, pretty quiet out there. even though we've had a couple of incidents, we are not seeing any changes in the sensors.

there was a hit and run here on highway 4. so heads up about that if you will be going out. east bay drive times looking pretty good. seeing all green sensors here. pretty smooth drive going from highway 4 to the bay bridge. should take you about 16 minutes on westbound 80. then as we get a look at the south bay, we are going to see some of those sensors once again looking all clear. so far not a whole lot of people out there on the road. let's get a live lookut there in palo alto 101, all clear. hopefully it stays this way on this memorial day. >> all right. thank you. punishing rains, strong winds intensifying on the gulf coast this morning. the severe weather could bring tornadoes and dangerous rip currents to the region. alberto is the first named storm of the season expected to make landfall in just a few hours. mya rodriguez reports states of emergency declared from florida to mississippi.

>> reporter: it's not how you thought you'd start the official start of the summer. residents in panama city, florida, hoping to protect their property. >> i am filling up sandbags to hopefully keep the rain water from coming in my front door. >> reporter: alberto expected to dump up a foot of rain. states of emergency already declared in all three states. >> the big thing is down here, you've got to watch. these things are unpredictable. >> reporter: the storm forming before the official start of hurricane season on june 1st. and drenching par ining parts o cuba on saturday. alberto is now expected to make landfall on monday before moving unland across the south. flash flood watches from

louisiana -- near the villages in central florida after several opened up this week. and along the gulf coast. >> i'm actually terrified of the amount of rain that is predicted to come in. >> reporter: a hope that alberto will make a quick exit. >> you just never know with mother nature. it is 4:50 now. to hawaii where there are new developments on the volcano erupting. lava now covers at least 2400 acres on the big island and the kilauea volcano continues to just explode. hawaii army national guard soldiers are teaming up with active duty soldiers to get a better look at the damage there. over the weekend a new fissure opened in leilania states. this is not currently threatening any new structure. meantime in california we're learning more about families whose dreams are now dashed because of this volcano. kathy and jean morgan spent

social security number, we're told. >> reporter: most have one social security number for life and it never changes. if you're a repeat identity theft victim, you can apply for a new social security number. do that at your local social security office. police trying to identify a body in the sacramento river. family members believe it could be paul beverly whose boat capsized on wednesday. two others on the boat were wearing life jackets. they're okay. plus a 5.7 magnitude quake in china damaged more than 1600 homes. hit early monday morning there after a hundred aftershocks have been detected. so far no deaths have been reported. we're back in two minutes with more.

cost about 60 bucks. that's the first one. live now to the golden gate bridge, the landmark is celebrating its 81st birthday. the bridge officially opened 81 years ago yesterday. bay area history for you. at first people were not happy about the proposal to build a bridge between san francisco and marin county. hundreds of lawsuits were actually filed to stop the construction. workers began building the bridge in january of 1933 and the first cars drove across in may of 1937. >> i bet all those people are like, okay, i guess it's all right. >> i suppose so. coming up on today in the bay, we want to get a look at that forecast in case you're out to check on the smoker. >> ang lot of people will be grilling today as we check our temperatures. we're sunny in the afternoon. it's going to be hot out there reaching into the 80s with light winds. at 7:00 it will feel more comfortable. and if you're going to be heading out the door, here's a live look outside in dublin this

lots of memorial day activities happening across the bay area today as well. good morning, everyone. >> kari hall, you are working double duty in case there's a little traffic here as well. >> so far things are looking pretty good. kind of expected on memorial day. people still have to work and get out the door. we start out this morning with all clear skies for much of the bay area. here's a live look outside in san jose. let's go to evergreen. i know you're already starting to make plans. normal high pressure this time of year. 76 degrees. as you can see, we're going way above that up to 88 by 2:00 this afternoon. eventually hitting the low 90s. while san francisco today will reach into the mid-70s. as we get a look at our traffic map, once again things are looking fairly quiet out there. no major issues, b
