lwelcome to tuesday morning. may feel like monday for some about an extra day off. a lovely look outside this morning. thanks for joining us, i'm laura ga garcia. >> i'm scott mcgrew. marcus has the day off. >> pore some it's a short week. it's been so hot and that heat continues today, just a few degrees lower in a few spots as we start out this morning looking live in san jose, people already up and out the door, quite a few cars and as we go to evergreen, we're going to start out with those temperatures in the low 60s, reaching low 80s by early afternoon. let's go to martinez. it's going to be in the upper

60s already by 8:00 and it's going to heat up fast. we're heading back in the low 90s today. i'll have more on this and the heat ahead as we will be cooling down by tomorrow. mike says it's a mild drive right now. >> a lot of folks easy if from the holiday weekend. right now we're looking at speeds along the peninsula and south bay, all the way over to the altamont, west 580 before we see any slowing. nothing too dramatic. the bay bridge has a mild backup for cash lanes. be we'll see it build again over the next few minutes. a deadly shooting in belgium, a gunman killed three people, two of them police officers. it's happening in the belgium city of -- >> let me show you video of the mar aftermath.

there were worries of terrorism when this broke. one state broadcaster says it's the case although authorities will not confirm a motive. this happened near a cafe, two officers died. a person in a passing car was also killed. local officials say the attacker disarmed police, used their own weapons against them and the gunman left the cafe and took a cleaning woman hostage at the nearby school but officials eventually shot and killed him. all of the kids at that school are safe. of course we'll continue to follow this breaking news and the active situation there and bring you the very latest as any information becomes available to us. >> breaking news from home in the south bay, a crash in san jose left at least five people hurt this morning. we're learning it may have been involved a stolen car. kris sanchez joins us live with more of what happened here. good morning, kris. >> reporter: hi, there, laura and scott. it's been more than six hours since that violent crash

happened at mclock lynn and not a lot of information coming from the san jose police department. let's show you the scene here as it happened last night. para medics had to try to get at least five people into ambulances and local hospitals and when san jose fire arrived, at least two people were trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by firefighters. by the looks of the cars it is no wonder that so many people were injured in that crash. we are trying to confirm reports that the car triggered that violent chain reaction may have been stolen but the crash happened in front of bridges academy, a charter school at the franklin-mckinley school district. we did swing by earlier this morning. it is all clear. there should be no impact to drop off this morning. we do have calls 23450 san jose police here and san jose fire and the santa clara county sheriff's department. when we get more nchininformati about the crash, we'll bring it to you here and online. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> this story shocked a lot of

people. the man who confessed to robbing and injuring an elderly woman is expected back in court. you may recall this exclusive interview last week. he told us he was sorry for knocking down 93-year-old ann speeterson while stealing her purse. he is scheduled to be arraigned this morning and also confessed to other robberies. also in court today, accused golden state killer, joseph deangelo will appear at the sacramento courthouse. a previous hearing with the unsealing search warrants was continued. he's accused of killing and raping dozens in california in the 1970s and 80s. no word on why a small plane crashed in the north bay killing both on board. it happened sunday before the plane took off from the petaluma airport. richard and sus onbristo are

good morning i'm contessa brewer. wall street looks like it will open lower this morning. dow futures are off 170 points off a fresh geopolitical worries. investors are watching europe as italy could be headed for another election after it failed to form a coalition government and no confidence vote friday. that is all sparking concerns about the global economy. on today's watch list at home, we're looking for home prices

and consumer confidence. nissan may cut production in north america by as much as 20% as it struggles with falling profits in the united states. its biggest market. cuts reportedly are already under way at two plants in the u.s. and three in mexico. nissan doesn't and laying off workers or shutting down assembly lines completely. most of nissan sales have involved heavy discounts and incentives that have eaten in profit margins. >> pan dora is laufrming a plan that gives unlimited muse you can streaming for $15 a month. pandora has 80 million thlisten for free each month and the company would like to convert some of those to paid subscribers. the price of the family plan matches those from rivals spotify and apple music. maybe it will be music to their ears? >> absolutely, contessa. >> the next high tech device could be you're license plate.

looking at him like i'm staying in front of the air conditioning. that was the kind of day it was yesterday and it will still be pretty hot today. only a few degrees cooler along the coast you'll notice it as we take a live look outside at the bay bridge. a lot of people heading back to work on this tuesday and that morning commute through the south bay starts out with low 60s at 6:00. and a lot of sunshine today, we're not going to see any clouds or fog to start out and it does heat up quickly. we'll be at 78 degrees before lunch and if you're going outside for lunch, it's already going to be 82 degrees. 7-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen showing major cooling by tomorrow. but today it's still going to be hot. up to 89 in east san jose. we could see a few 9 o's especially for spots like antioch and livermore. concord 88 degrees and 78 in hayward. for the coast it's going to stay in the low 60s for this afternoon. 76 in redwood city, palo alto, 80 degrees and 70 on the

embarcadero. little bit lower than it was yesterday but still quite warm for the north bay. reaching up to 85 today in santa rosa. as we get a look outside and you're standing in front of the closet like i don't want to go back to work, you need to wear something nice and cool like short sleeves and shorts if you can and it's going to be a great day to head to the beach. if you still have the day off you'll want to go. it will be nice and cool and our natural air conditioning kicking in for the immediate coastline and half moon bay will stay in the low 60s for the afternoon and as we go into the day tomorrow, we'll start to see our temperatures cooling down. look at that. 73 degrees, may start out with drizzle along the coast and up to 80 degrees for afriday. it will get a boost in time for the weekend. if you want to make plans to head to the beach if you weren't able to do so over the weekend, san francisco, mostly 60s over the last few days. you're tracking something on the track. >> for folks who may be riding

the canadian man who pleaded guilty to hacking e-mails will be sentenced in a san francisco courtroom. he confessed to breaking into 500 million yahoo! e-mail accounts back in 2014. he was charged with three other men including two officers in russia's federal security service. the men used the information to access accounts of russian journalists along with russian government officials. >> california's june 5th primary a week away. next tuesday millions will head to the polls. today gavin newsom kicks off a state bus tour from san francisco city hall that will happen this morning. other top candidates include antonio villaraigosa and kicking campaigns into high gear. set your dvr or tune into nbc bay area at noon this sunday. we'll rebroadcast our gubernatorial debate that we had on earlier this month. you can watch the top six candidates take on issues that

jose just before 5:00 a.m. on your tuesday morning. for lots of people this will be first day back to work. live look at san jose, it's going to be warm today. >> we've been keeping track of hawaii's kilauea kol vel way vo. these are images from nasa. they are showing the view in ut other space. isn't it amazing to see? kilaue kilauea's unstoppable lava flow. using infrared technology you can see the volume taklava spew the volcano. >> this dramatic video from fresno, two officers jumped in a canal thelping brothers trapped in and one of the men were able to get out but it took dive times 45 minutes to rescue the other man. the good news is both are okay.
