of las vegas. the jury has delivered a late night verdict in the weeks long lawsuit involving world famous illusionist david copperfield. we have word this morning that copperfield will not have to pay a british tourist who was seeking monetary damages after he was injured during a 2013 magic show on the vegas strip. the state civil court in nevada finding that while copperfield, his company, and the hotel were in fact negligent, they were not liable for cox's injuries, affirming that cox was 100% responsible for his own injuries. >> according to the plaintiff, gavin cox, he participated in the vanishing act with 13 other audience members. while being rushed offstage to make it seem like the volunteers disappeared and reaer paed moments later, he fell and suffered brain and other injuries. after several weeks of testimony and two hours of deliberations, he will not receive any money. overnight, 53 characters cost actress and comedian roseanne barr the hit reboot of her popular sitcom. but now barr is firing back in a series of tweets, barr says while she apologizes for her

tweet, she plans to defend herself and is tired of being attacked more than other comedians. in a tweet widely characterized as racist, barr previously took aim at former white house adviser valerie jarrett. she's since apologized to jarrett saying she's sorry to have hurt her, tweeting again, roseanne also apologized to the cast and crew of her now canceled show. nbc's dan scheneman has the latest. >> there. excuse me. >> reporter: abc's reboot of roseanne was canceled by the network shortly after roseanne barr posted a comment about former white house adviser valerie jarrett. the tweet suggested jarrett is a product of the muslim brotherhood and planet of the apes. criticism was swift. appearing on msnbc, valerie jarrett suggested this was a teaching moment. >> i'm fine. i'm worried about all the people out there who don't have a circle of friends and followers who come right to their defense. >> reporter: after disney, which owns abc, announced the show's cancellation, disney's ceo robert iger tweeted there was only one thing to do here, and

that was the right thing. >> networks should be more careful about who they allow to top their most prestigious shows. >> hi, mom. >> reporter: the roseanne reboot had been a surprise hit for abc. the first episode attracted 25 million viewers. >> so to lose this show, they will take a huge hit in advertising revenue, but i think, you know, they also realize that to keep the show on the air, they would be dealing with an ongoing p.r. nightmare. >> reporter: on the show, barr plays a supporter of donald trump, and the president has suggested that support had a lot to do with the show's success. dan scheneman, nbc news. after closing thousands of stores for parts of the day, starbucks has concluded what the company calls its unconscious bias training. it came after that racial incident in philadelphia. two black men were arrested after not making a purchase. and today more than 175,000 starbucks employees have completed four hours of instruction on racial bias. two witnesses who were in the

store at the time of that 911 call told our stephanie gosk it's going to take a lot more than a workshop. >> reporter: for four hours, the espresso machines stopped, and starbucks baristas listened to messages like this. the company closed over 8,000 stores nationwide, costing an estimated $12 million for an afternoon of racial bias training. >> we are here to make starbucks a place where everyone, everyone feels welcome. >> reporter: turning to groups like the naacp for guidance. >> to be welcomed as a customer means that not only do i allow you in, but it means that i'm glad you're here. >> reporter: it's been six weeks since donte robinson and rashaun nelson were arrested in a philadelphia starbucks. an employee called 911 when the two men asked to use the bath r room, saying they refused to buy anything, triggering a massive backlash and an apology from the

leading the news this morning, "the new york times" is out with a developing story on the russia probe. after it reported president trump asked attorney general jeff sessions to take back control of the russia investigation after he had recused himself in the case. the "times" claiming the president's ask happened one saturday in march of 2017 after sessions flew to florida because the president wasn't taking his calls on the travel ban. those details come as the paper of record also says that the confrontation, which has not been previously reported, is being investigated by special counsel robert mueller along with trump's other attacks on sessions. and one of the key republicans who went behind closed doors to view classified information is now defending the fbi for its decision to deploy an informant to gather more information on trump's 2016 campaign. oversight committee chairman trey gowdy even suggesting on fox news that the effort had nothing to do with the president. >> i am even more convinced that
